Tutors who join go through an ID check. Tell us the class, board and your sector: we share two or three matched tutors, each with their fee, and the first class is a free demo, at home or online.
Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

Short answer: Class 7 is the year science answers stop being descriptions and start being explanations, and the first numbers arrive with them. A child who could say what happens in Class 6 must now say why it happens, show it in a diagram, and sometimes calculate it. A home tutor helps most by teaching that "observation, reason, conclusion" pattern chapter after chapter, and by making speed, time period and simple circuits feel routine. This guide covers the twelve chapters of NCERT's Grade 7 Curiosity book for 2026-27, the chapters where marks usually slip, how ICSE, IB MYP and Cambridge Lower Secondary schools treat this year, four worked mini-examples, a Gurugram school-year plan and a demo checklist. The guide is by Aaditya Kashyap, an NXTutors science tutor for CBSE and ICSE students in Classes 6 to 10.
NCERT calls its Grade 7 book the second in the Curiosity series, and it picks up where the Class 6 book stopped. The topics feel familiar to parents (acids, metals, heat, light, plants and animals), but the demand on the child changes in three ways:
If your child is still in Class 6, our Class 6 science home tutor in Gurgaon page covers the foundation year. The all-subject view of these years is on our page for home tutors for Classes 6 to 8 in Gurugram.
CBSE schools and other NCERT-following schools in Gurugram use Curiosity, Textbook of Science for Grade 7, first published in April 2025 and reprinted for 2026-27 with twelve chapters in one book. The table shows each chapter with the kind of thinking it asks for, which is what a tutor plans around:
| Ch. | Chapter | Main demand |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | The Ever-Evolving World of Science | Introduction; NCERT marks it non-evaluative |
| 2 | Exploring Substances: Acidic, Basic, and Neutral | Classifying from indicator evidence |
| 3 | Electricity: Circuits and their Components | Circuit symbols; open and closed paths |
| 4 | The World of Metals and Non-metals | Comparing properties with evidence |
| 5 | Changes Around Us: Physical and Chemical | Justifying a classification of change |
| 6 | Adolescence: A Stage of Growth and Change | Accurate, respectful vocabulary |
| 7 | Heat Transfer in Nature | Explaining with conduction, convection, radiation |
| 8 | Measurement of Time and Motion | Calculations with units; reading motion |
| 9 | Life Processes in Animals | Sequencing a process; labelled diagrams |
| 10 | Life Processes in Plants | Linking structure to function; fair tests |
| 11 | Light: Shadows and Reflections | Ray diagrams; predicting shadows |
| 12 | Earth, Moon, and the Sun | Modelling positions in space |
Read across the table and the pattern is clear: chemistry-style chapters (2, 4, 5) need evidence-based classification, physics-style chapters (3, 7, 8, 11) need diagrams and numbers, and biology chapters (6, 9, 10) need processes told in the right order. A chapter-by-chapter treatment with home experiments is on our national Class 7 science tutor guide.
The Grade 7 book uses different labels from the Class 6 book, and knowing what each one means saves a child from over-studying some parts and under-studying others. NCERT's "About this Book" note sets them out:
The end-of-chapter exercises. NCERT says questions used for evaluation should be similar to these, so they are the closest guide to school test style. Every one deserves a written answer.
Advanced ideas that lead to deeper questions. Good stretch material for a child who is ahead; not the first thing to chase for a child who is behind.
The chapter summary. A useful last check before a test, but a poor substitute for the chapter, because it leaves out the reasoning that answers need.
Projects that involve parents, teachers, experts or the community. They suit weekends and school breaks, planned early so they do not land the night before submission.
The book also has "Fascinating Facts", "Holistic Lens", "Science and Society" and "Know a Scientist" boxes, and QR codes linking to NCERT audio, video, puzzles and quizzes. A tutor uses these for discussion and interest. Chapter 1, The Ever-Evolving World of Science, is described by NCERT as non-evaluative.
The first chapter with a formula that a child must rearrange and apply. Errors come from mixing units (metres with seconds in one line, then hours in the next) and from counting oscillations wrongly. The fix is a fixed layout: given, formula, substitution with units, answer with unit.
Children often draw a "circuit" that is not closed, or draw a cell with its terminals unclear. A tutor who builds a real circuit with a torch bulb, a cell and a switch, then has the child draw it in symbols, fixes this in a session or two.
"Is it reversible?" is a helpful question but not a complete test. Marks go to answers that state the evidence: is a new substance formed, with a new colour, smell, gas or heat? Children who learn only examples by heart struggle when the school asks about an unfamiliar change.
The three words are easy to learn and hard to use. A child must say which one is at work in a sea breeze, a hot iron handle or the warmth of sunlight, and why. Everyday examples from home are the quickest route.
This chapter needs a calm, factual tutor who teaches it as the book does. If your family would prefer a particular tutor for it, or prefers to handle it at home with the school's support, say so when you request a tutor.
Original practice items of the type a tutor sets after each chapter, with the layout we want a Class 7 student to write.
Question. Kabir rolls a ball along a corridor. It covers 18 m in 6 s at a steady pace. Find its speed.
Given: distance = 18 m, time = 6 s.
Formula: speed = distance ÷ time.
Substitution: speed = 18 m ÷ 6 s = 3 m/s.
Answer: The ball's speed is 3 m/s.
Question. A pendulum completes 20 oscillations in 36 s. What is its time period? Why count 20 oscillations rather than one?
Working. Time period = total time ÷ number of oscillations = 36 s ÷ 20 = 1.8 s. Timing many oscillations
and dividing reduces the effect of the small delay in starting and stopping the watch.
What the tutor looks for: the division shown, the unit s, and the reason written as a sentence.
Question. Classify each change as physical or chemical and give one piece of evidence: (a) wax melting near a flame; (b) an iron gate developing a reddish-brown coating in the rainy season; (c) sugar dissolving in water.
Answer. (a) Physical: the melted wax hardens back into wax, so no new substance has formed. (b) Chemical:
rust is a new substance with a different colour and properties from iron. (c) Physical: the sugar can be recovered
by evaporating the water, so no new substance has formed.
What the tutor looks for: the phrase "new substance" used correctly in each reason.
Question. A torch has two good cells, a working bulb and a switch. With the switch in the OFF position, the bulb does not glow. Explain.
Answer. In the OFF position the switch leaves a gap in the circuit, so the circuit is open and there is no
complete path for current. Turning the switch ON closes the gap and the bulb glows.
What the tutor looks for: the words "open", "closed" and "complete path", and a circuit diagram drawn with
the correct symbols.
ICSE schools pick their own textbooks for Class 7, and many already teach physics, chemistry and biology as separate books with separate tests. That split becomes formal later: when the ICSE board exam arrives at the close of Class 10, a student writes three distinct CISCE science papers (Physics, Chemistry, Biology), each worth 80 theory marks with another 20 from internal assessment. A Class 7 ICSE tutor should get definitions word-perfect and numericals fully worked now. For the board in general, visit ICSE home tutors in Gurgaon; senior ICSE students can go straight to our physics, chemistry and biology pages for that board.
Cambridge Lower Secondary is typically for learners aged 11 to 14. Its science curriculum is built on six strands: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Earth and Space, Thinking and Working Scientifically, and Science in Context. The last two are worth noting for a tutor: planning an investigation and relating science to real life are part of the curriculum itself, not extras. Cambridge also offers optional assessments, including Checkpoint, which some schools use and others do not.
The MYP covers ages 11 to 16 and grades work against criteria; its final eAssessment is optional. A Class 7 MYP student's science work is often an extended task with a rubric, so the tutor reads the task sheet first and coaches the inquiry without doing it. More on this sits on the IB MYP science tutor in Gurgaon page.
CBSE schools use Curiosity, and the school's own tests set the pace. Our CBSE science tutor in Gurgaon page shows where these habits lead by Classes 9 and 10.
Most schools in the city test in a big way twice, once around mid-session and once at the end, with smaller periodic tests between. Dates differ from school to school, so the plan bends to your school's calendar:
| Stage of the year | Priorities | Sessions a week |
|---|---|---|
| Start of session | Check Class 6 gaps in temperature, materials and measurement; set the "observation, reason, conclusion" answer layout | 1 to 2 |
| Summer break | One Exploratory Project planned and done; a home circuit or indicator activity written up | 0 to 1 |
| Up to the mid-year exam | Chapters in the school's order; daily-life examples for heat transfer; a practice paper in the school's format | 2 |
| After the mid-year exam | Paper review; numericals in time and motion until the layout is automatic; ray diagrams | 2 |
| Run-up to the annual exam | Strand-wise revision (chemistry, physics, biology chapters); mixed practice papers; diagram drills | 2 |
At the end of the year the tutor should note which strand is weakest, because Class 8 adds more numericals and the separate sciences start to feel distinct. Our Class 8 science home tutor in Gurgaon page explains that bridge. Calculation habits are shared with maths, so if ratio and unit work is weak, our Class 7 maths home tutor in Gurgaon page helps. Students who enjoy problem-solving can look at our olympiad preparation guide for Gurgaon for enrichment.
By Class 7, evenings are crowded: sport, a third language, maths, and longer homework. Two science sessions a week works for most children, and placement matters more than frequency. Put one session early in the week to meet new chapters and one later to write answers and practise numericals.
On Golf Course Road, in Sector 27 and Sector 54, tutors can usually reach homes on weekday evenings without much difficulty. Along the Dwarka Expressway, around Sector 37D and Sector 108, new societies are spread out and fewer tutors live nearby, so a home session at the weekend with an online session midweek is a common pattern. Evening traffic on the main roads is the usual reason a slot fails, so we look for a tutor already on your side of the city.
Online sessions suit Class 7 for numericals and answer-writing, provided the student's notebook is on camera. Circuits, indicator tests and heat activities go better in person, with an adult present, which is why a hybrid plan is often the practical choice in newer sectors.
Every NXTutors match starts with a free demo class, and these are the signs worth watching for:
Tutors who join go through an ID check; the Verified badge appears only after our team has reviewed the ID. See how we check tutors. Should the match feel off, another tutor from the shortlist takes over for a fresh demo, and changing tutor later costs nothing.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Every tutor's own rate is visible to you before the demo, and our article on home tuition fees in Gurgaon sets out what pushes a rate up or down.
Message us the board, the Class 7 chapters that need work, where you live and which evenings are free, and a shortlist of two or three matched tutors follows. Science across Classes 6 to 10 is covered on our science home tutor in Gurgaon page, or start from your own sector on the city page for home tutors in Gurgaon.
Parents often tell us their child's school so the tutor can follow the same board and books. These Gurugram schools follow CBSE, ICSE and ISC, IB or Cambridge IGCSE, as shown on each school's own site or its board's directory, with the sector each is in. NXTutors has no tie-up with any school; tutors are matched by board and syllabus, and the list is alphabetical, not a ranking.

Gurgaon Class 7 students using NCERT's Curiosity for Grade 7 study twelve science chapters in one book in 2026-27. They run from The Ever-Evolving World of Science through acids and bases, electricity, metals and non-metals, physical and chemical changes, adolescence, heat transfer, time and motion, and life processes in animals and plants, to light and finally Earth, Moon, and the Sun.
Gurgaon Class 7 students usually find Measurement of Time and Motion, Electricity, Physical and Chemical Changes, and Heat Transfer in Nature the hardest science chapters. Motion brings the first formulas and units, and circuit diagrams must be complete with the right symbols. Changes need evidence rather than memorised examples, and heat transfer must be applied to new situations.
A Gurgaon Class 7 student should prepare for science tests by working through every Let Us Enhance Our Learning exercise in writing, since NCERT says evaluation questions should be similar. Use In a Nutshell only as a last check and keep the Dive Deeper boxes for stretch. Practise numericals in a fixed layout: given, formula, substitution, answer with unit.
Class 7 science in Gurgaon ICSE and Cambridge schools follows the school's own scheme rather than one NCERT book. ICSE schools choose their own books and often teach physics, chemistry and biology separately, ahead of three CISCE papers in Classes 9 and 10. Cambridge Lower Secondary, typically for ages 11 to 14, organises science into six strands, including Thinking and Working Scientifically.
Yes, a Gurgaon tutor can teach the Class 7 Adolescence chapter calmly and factually, as the book presents it. If your family would prefer a particular tutor for this chapter, or would rather handle it at home with the school's support, mention it in your request and we plan around it.
Two science sessions a week suit most Class 7 students in Gurugram: one early in the week for new chapters and one later for written answers and numericals. In newer sectors along Dwarka Expressway or in New Gurugram, a weekend home session with a midweek online session is a common pattern.
A Class 7 science demo class in Gurgaon should show the tutor asking your child to explain why, not just what. The tutor should lay out one numerical with units, correct a diagram, know which parts of the book are assessed and finish with a plan for the first month. If it is not a match, another shortlisted tutor gives a demo.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Each Class 7 science tutor in Gurgaon sets their own rate, and every rate on your shortlist is visible before the free demo.
To find a Class 7 science tutor in Gurgaon, send NXTutors the board, the chapters causing trouble, your sector and your free slots. We shortlist two or three matched tutors, with each fee shown before the first class. The first class is a free demo, and switching tutor later is free.
Home tuition usually suits Class 7 science in Gurgaon better than online, because the tutor can check circuit diagrams and the layout of numericals at the table. Online works for a focused child with the notebook on camera throughout. Many families in newer sectors mix a weekend visit with a midweek online class.
Tell us the class, board and your area. We share two or three matched tutors, and the first class is a free demo.
