Tutors who join go through an ID check. Tell us the class, board and your sector: we share two or three matched tutors, each with their fee, and the first class is a free demo, at home or online.
Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

Short answer: most Class 6 children in Gurugram do not need heavy science tuition. They need someone who turns the textbook's activities into careful notebook habits, so observing, measuring and explaining become routine before Class 7. A session or two each week normally covers it. Below: the Grade 6 Curiosity chapters for 2026-27, what the book assesses, other boards, worked examples, a year plan and a demo checklist. Aaditya Kashyap, who teaches CBSE and ICSE science from Class 6 to Class 10 on NXTutors, writes our science guidance.
In Classes 3 to 5, science arrives mixed with geography and everyday life under environmental studies. Class 6 is the first year it stands alone, with its own book, its own notebook and its own place on the test timetable. NCERT describes the middle-stage approach as integrated: one book draws on biology, chemistry, physics and earth science together, rather than splitting them. So a child may study plants one month and magnets the next, and the connecting thread is the method, not the topic.
That method is the real new subject. A Class 6 child is now asked to predict before trying, to note what happened rather than what was expected, to measure with a scale or thermometer and write the unit, and to explain an observation in a sentence that begins with "because". Children who were strong in EVS through good memory sometimes find this uncomfortable for a term. That is normal, and it is exactly where a patient tutor earns the fee.
Other subjects and general study habits for these years are on our all-subject page for middle-school home tutors (Classes 6 to 8). Maths moves in parallel: measurement, units and simple tables appear in both subjects, and our Class 6 maths home tutor in Gurgaon guide deals with the number work.
CBSE schools, and many other schools in Gurugram that follow NCERT, use Curiosity, Textbook of Science for Grade 6. NCERT first published it in July 2024, and the 2026-27 reprint keeps the same twelve chapters. Schools decide their own order and test dates, so the table groups the chapters by the strand they mostly belong to, which is how a tutor plans revision across the year:
| Strand | Chapters (NCERT numbering) | The skill a tutor checks in the notebook |
|---|---|---|
| The nature of science | 1 The Wonderful World of Science | Asking a testable question; not assessed by NCERT |
| Living world and health | 2 Diversity in the Living World; 3 Mindful Eating: A Path to a Healthy Body; 10 Living Creatures: Exploring their Characteristics | Grouping by observable features; reading a simple food test; changing one condition at a time |
| Matter and materials | 6 Materials Around Us; 8 A Journey through States of Water; 9 Methods of Separation in Everyday Life | Using property words exactly; choosing and justifying a separation method |
| Physical world and measurement | 4 Exploring Magnets; 5 Measurement of Length and Motion; 7 Temperature and its Measurement | Reading instruments from the right starting mark; writing units every time |
| Earth, resources and space | 11 Nature's Treasures; 12 Beyond Earth | Sorting resources; drawing what was actually seen in the sky |
The grouping matters because the strands do not get equal time in school, and marks in the measurement strand are the easiest to lose through carelessness rather than ignorance. For a chapter-by-chapter description with home experiments, our national Class 6 science tutor guide goes through each chapter in order.
What must be learnt by heart? NCERT's own "About the Book" note answers much of that:
NCERT states that The Wonderful World of Science is non-evaluative. It introduces the way scientists think. Use it for discussion; do not turn it into question-and-answer notes.
"Do you know?", "More to know!", "Think it over!", "More to do!" and "Know a scientist" are marked non-evaluative. They widen a child's interest. They are not extra syllabus.
The Keywords list is the vocabulary the child must use correctly in answers. A tutor can turn it into a quick oral check at the start of each session.
These end-of-chapter exercises are the assessment section, with pictorial questions, puzzles and multiple-choice items. School tests tend to look like them, so they deserve full written answers.
Two further features are easy to ignore. "Learning further" sets projects that ask the child to talk to parents, teachers or people in the community, which suits a weekend at home far better than a weekday evening. And QR codes in the book lead to NCERT videos, quizzes and puzzles; a tutor can set one as a short, purposeful screen task instead of open-ended browsing.
Gurugram has every major board, and the tutor's first job is to work from the material your child's school uses.
ICSE schools choose their own textbooks for the junior years, so there is no single Class 6 book to plan from. Many teach physics, chemistry and biology from separate books with separate tests even at this age. What is fixed is the destination: once a child reaches the ICSE examination years, Physics, Chemistry and Biology are sat as three different CISCE papers, and each carries 80 theory marks plus 20 internal-assessment marks. A Class 6 ICSE tutor should keep one tidy notebook system across the three books so the habit is ready by then. The board as a whole is explained on our ICSE home tutors in Gurgaon page; for the Class 9 and 10 papers, see our ICSE physics tutor, ICSE chemistry tutor and ICSE biology tutor guides.
The IB designs the MYP for learners from 11 to 16. Marks come from published criteria rather than a running total, and the closing eAssessment is optional. For a Class 6 MYP learner, the tutor's job is to read the unit's task sheet and rubric before helping, and to support the inquiry without writing it. Our IB MYP science tutor in Gurgaon page explains the approach.
Cambridge describes Lower Secondary as typically for learners aged 11 to 14, so in many Cambridge schools Class 6 is the start or the edge of that stage. Science there is taught through a school scheme of work; ask the school which stage your child is in, and share it with the tutor.
CBSE schools use Curiosity as above. Because there is no board exam in Class 6, the school's own tests set the pace, and our CBSE science tutor in Gurgaon page shows how the same habits carry through to the Class 10 paper.
| What goes wrong | Why it happens | What a tutor does |
|---|---|---|
| Measuring from the end of the ruler instead of a mark | Worn or broken rulers; rushing | Practises measuring from any mark and subtracting |
| Answers with no unit | Units feel like decoration | Treats a missing unit as a wrong answer in every practice set |
| "It is magnetic because it is metal" | Overgeneralising from one example | Tests several metal objects at home and records which ones are attracted |
| Naming a separation method without a reason | Memorising the list of methods | Asks "what property makes this work?" for each step |
| Grouping living things by name, not by feature | Habit from picture books | Builds simple keys using one observable feature at a time |
| Memorised answers that break when the question is reworded | Learning guide-book answers by heart | Rewords questions and asks the child to explain aloud first, then write |
These are habits, not ability, and Class 6 is the easiest year to change them.
Each item below is our own, written for practice once the matching chapter is done, and each shows the written layout a Class 6 child should aim for.
Question. The zero end of Meher's ruler is broken. She places one end of a pencil at the 2.0 cm mark and the other end reaches the 9.6 cm mark. How long is the pencil, in centimetres and in millimetres?
Working. Length = final reading − starting reading = 9.6 cm − 2.0 cm = 7.6 cm. Since 1 cm = 10 mm,
7.6 cm = 7.6 × 10 mm = 76 mm.
Answer. The pencil is 7.6 cm, or 76 mm, long.
What the tutor looks for: the subtraction written out, the unit on every line, and the conversion shown
rather than guessed.
Question. A jar holds a mixture of sand, common salt and iron filings. Describe, in order, how to get each one back separately, and give the property each step uses.
Working. Step 1: move a magnet over the dry mixture; the iron filings stick to it (iron is attracted by a
magnet; sand and salt are not). Step 2: add water to what is left and stir; the salt dissolves and the sand does not
(salt is soluble in water, sand is not). Step 3: filter; the sand stays on the filter paper. Step 4: leave the clear
filtrate in sunlight until the water evaporates; the salt is left behind.
What the tutor looks for: the order (the magnet must come before water, or the filings get wet and messy),
and a property named for every step.
Question. A laboratory thermometer in a mug of water reads 42 °C. After the mug stands on a table for a while, it reads 31 °C. By how much has the temperature fallen? Why should a clinical thermometer not be used for this?
Working. Fall in temperature = 42 °C − 31 °C = 11 °C. A clinical thermometer is made for measuring body
temperature, so its scale covers only a narrow range; a laboratory thermometer is the right instrument for water in
a mug.
What the tutor looks for: the unit °C written with each number, and a reason given in a full sentence, not
just "wrong thermometer".
The Gurugram school year usually opens in April and pauses for the summer holidays; a half-yearly exam follows the monsoon months and the annual exam closes the session. Your school's own calendar decides the dates, so the tutor fits around it:
| When | What the tutor works on | Sessions a week |
|---|---|---|
| April to the summer break | Set up one science notebook; start the Keywords habit; the first school chapters; measurement and units drilled early | 1 |
| Summer break | A "Learning further" project and two or three home activities written up in four steps; no new chapters forced | 0 to 1 |
| July to the mid-year exam | School chapters as taught; "Let us enhance our learning" answered in full; one practice test before the exam | 1 to 2 |
| After the mid-year exam | Review the paper line by line; repair the errors that cost marks; continue new chapters | 1 to 2 |
| Winter months to the annual exam | Strand-wise revision using the table above; night-sky work for Beyond Earth on clear evenings; mixed practice papers | 2 |
Before Class 7 begins, the tutor should leave a short note on what is secure and what is not. Class 7 builds directly on temperature, materials, measurement and food, and our Class 7 science home tutor in Gurgaon page explains what comes next. Children who are well ahead and enjoy puzzles can add enrichment; our olympiad preparation guide for Gurgaon explains that route.
A Class 6 timetable in Gurugram is often fuller than parents expect: school transport, an activity or two, a language that is new this year, and maths. Science tuition has to fit what is left. A few things to plan for when matching a tutor anywhere in the city:
Along Sohna Road, in places such as Sector 47, Sector 50 and Malibu Towne, weekday home sessions for a Class 6 child are usually easy to arrange. In New Gurugram, around Sector 86 and Sector 90, fewer science tutors live close by, so many families keep in-person visits for the hands-on chapters and move written-answer practice online. Online works well at this age only if the child's notebook is on camera and the materials for any activity are ready beforehand.
The first class with an NXTutors tutor is a free demo class on whatever chapter school is on that week. Use it to check five things:
Tutors who join go through an ID check; the Verified badge appears only after our team has reviewed the ID. You can read how that works on our how we check tutors page. Not the right match? Your second shortlisted tutor can run the next demo, and moving to a different tutor later is free of charge.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Each tutor sets a personal rate, which you see ahead of the demo; for budgeting, our guide to home tuition fees in Gurgaon breaks the numbers down.
Send us the board, your child's science book, the chapters that worry you, your sector or society and the days that work. You then get a shortlist of two or three matched tutors, and your child meets your pick in the demo. For the full Class 6 to 10 picture, read our science home tutor in Gurgaon guide, or find your locality through our page for home tutors in Gurgaon.
Parents often tell us their child's school so the tutor can follow the same board and books. These Gurugram schools follow CBSE, ICSE and ISC, IB or Cambridge IGCSE, as shown on each school's own site or its board's directory, with the sector each is in. NXTutors has no tie-up with any school; tutors are matched by board and syllabus, and the list is alphabetical, not a ranking.

CBSE and NCERT-following schools in Gurgaon use Curiosity, Textbook of Science for Grade 6, for Class 6 in 2026-27. NCERT first published it in July 2024, and the 2026-27 reprint keeps the same twelve chapters, from The Wonderful World of Science to Beyond Earth. ICSE schools choose their own books, so the tutor follows your school's list.
No, a Gurgaon Class 6 child does not need to memorise the Curiosity side boxes such as Do you know and Know a scientist. NCERT marks those, with More to know, Think it over and More to do, as non-evaluative, and Chapter 1 is non-evaluative too. Tests draw on the chapter content, the Keywords and the Let us enhance our learning exercises.
One science session a week is enough for most Class 6 children in Gurugram, rising to two in the weeks before the mid-year and annual exams. A child rebuilding confidence or who has just changed board may need two from the start for one term, then drop back to one.
One tutor for Class 6 maths and science is often sensible for a Gurgaon child, because measurement, units and simple tables appear in both subjects. If maths is the clear weak spot, a maths specialist plus light science support may work better. Tell us which subject worries you more when you request a tutor.
Class 6 science in a Gurgaon ICSE school covers overlapping ideas, but the school picks its own textbooks and many already teach physics, chemistry and biology as separate books. From Class 9, CISCE examines them as three separate papers. A Class 6 ICSE tutor should follow the school's books and build a tidy notebook for each science.
Home science tuition suits Class 6 in Gurgaon well, because the tutor can run small activities and check the notebook directly. Online works when the notebook is on camera and materials are ready beforehand. In newer sectors with fewer tutors nearby, a weekly visit for hands-on chapters plus an online slot for written answers works well.
In a Class 6 science free demo in Gurgaon, check that the tutor asks for the school book and that your child does or observes something. At least one answer should be written in full sentences with units, and the tutor should end with a plan for the first month. If it does not click, the next shortlisted tutor runs a demo.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Each Class 6 science tutor in Gurgaon names a rate, shown to you before the demo.
To request a Class 6 science tutor for your Gurgaon home, send NXTutors the board, the school book, your sector and the slots you can offer. We shortlist two or three matched tutors, with each fee shown before the first class. The first class is a free demo, and switching tutor later is free.
Tell us the class, board and your area. We share two or three matched tutors, and the first class is a free demo.
