What does the final school year involve for each board?

Class 12 is not one exam. It is a set of papers, practicals and projects spread across the year, and each board spreads them differently. A tutor needs to know which marks are already being earned in school, not only what comes in the final paper.

How do JEE, NEET and CUET fit around the boards?

The entrance exams are not set by the school boards. JEE (Main), NEET (UG) and CUET (UG) are conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), and JEE (Advanced) has its own site, jeeadv.ac.in. Each exam publishes a fresh information bulletin every year. The 2027 bulletins had not been released at the time of writing, so the table shows the 2026 pattern as a guide only.

The practical point: the same chapter should be taught once for understanding, then practised in two styles, full written board answers and timed entrance questions. Which subjects need a tutor in PCM, PCB and commerce?

• PCM. Maths and physics are the usual requests: calculus in maths and the heavier electricity and optics chapters in physics are frequent sticking points for both board and JEE work. Chemistry help is more often targeted at physical chemistry numericals or organic reactions. • PCB. For NEET students, physics is very often the weak link while biology goes well, so physics tuition usually comes first. Biology needs steady NCERT-based revision; chemistry sits between the two. • Commerce. Accountancy and economics are the common requests, and maths where the student takes it. Check which maths course the school offers: in ISC, for example, Mathematics and Applied Mathematics are separate subjects that cannot be combined. CUET planning matters most for this stream.
• Computer science. Where it is the fifth subject, marks are lost on program-tracing and output questions and on practical files left to the last month. A short weekly coding routine works better than a burst before the boards, and we match a separate tutor on request.
• English and electives. Rarely need a regular tutor; a few sessions on answer writing before the pre-boards is usually enough.

Why one tutor per subject at Class 12 level?

In Classes 9 and 10, one tutor for maths and science can work well. In Class 12 it rarely does. Each subject now runs deep enough that a tutor needs current knowledge of the board paper, the practical or coursework component and, often, the entrance version of the same syllabus. A tutor strong in calculus may not be current on ISC physics practicals; a CBSE chemistry tutor may never have seen an IB internal assessment.

In practice, most Class 12 students need one or two subject tutors, not three or four. Pick the subjects where marks are lost in school tests and mock tests, and handle the rest with a plan. A student who takes tutors in every subject, plus coaching, has no hours left for the practice that actually moves scores.

Should a Class 12 tutor work alongside coaching?

For many Gurgaon students, yes. Coaching gives the entrance syllabus plan, the test series and the peer benchmark; a tutor handles what the batch cannot: doubts that pile up, one weak subject, board-style writing and school practicals. It works well when the tutor knows the coaching schedule and works on the same chapters that week. Signs that a student needs a tutor alongside coaching:

• Coaching test scores stay flat for several tests despite effort.
• One subject lags well behind the other two.
• School marks are slipping while entrance work continues.
• The student follows solutions when shown but cannot start problems alone.

IB Diploma students rarely take coaching, but the same logic applies to a subject tutor during Year 2: coursework deadlines, mock exams and predicted grades all land in the first term, so support should start before, not after, the first mocks.

Planning a Class 12 week around school, coaching and traffic

The hardest part of Class 12 in Gurgaon is often the calendar, not the syllabus. School, coaching several days a week, tuition and a cross-city drive at evening peak hours can leave nothing for revision and sleep. A workable approach:

1. Fix the immovable blocks first: school hours, coaching days and travel time at the real class hour.
2. Place tutor sessions on non-coaching days, ideally at home or online so no extra travel is added.
3. Keep two self-study blocks a week that nothing can take, for mock analysis and the doubt list.
4. Shift the balance through the year: entrance-style practice through most of the term, board-style writing and sample papers before school exams and pre-boards, then back to entrance practice after the boards.

Home or online tuition in Class 12?

Class 12 students manage online classes better than younger children, and specialists for IB HL, ISC or JEE Advanced-level problems are fewer in any one part of the city, so online often widens the choice a great deal.
