Tutors who join go through an ID check. Tell us the class, board and your sector: we share two or three matched tutors, each with their fee, and the first class is a free demo, at home or online.
Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

Class 7 is the year school maths starts to be marked on the working rather than the answer. The CBSE course now runs across two NCERT books and fifteen chapters, brings in letter-numbers and simple equations, extends integers, fractions and decimals to multiplication and division, and asks children to justify facts about triangles. A good Class 7 maths tutor reads the notebook line by line, not just the final figure. Below you will find the full 2026-27 chapter map, the skills that carry over from Class 6 and on to Class 8, the errors that cost the most marks, worked problems with model working, a two-book year plan, and what to ask a tutor in the free demo. The author, Abhinandan Tiwary, specialises in Class 10 maths on both CBSE and ICSE; the guide serves Gurugram families on CBSE, ICSE and IB MYP alike.
CBSE schools use two NCERT books in Class 7: Ganita Prakash (eight chapters) and Ganita Prakash Part II (seven chapters). The chapter titles below are exactly as printed on the contents pages of the 2026-27 reprints; the right-hand column says what each one is really about, drawn from NCERT's own "About the Book" notes.
| Book | Ch. | Title | The mathematics inside |
|---|---|---|---|
| Part I | 1 | Large Numbers Around Us | Lakhs and crores, millions and billions |
| Part I | 2 | Arithmetic Expressions | Writing and reading expressions with several operations without ambiguity |
| Part I | 3 | A Peek Beyond the Point | The decimal point; adding and subtracting decimals |
| Part I | 4 | Expressions using Letter-Numbers | First steps into algebra: letters standing for numbers |
| Part I | 5 | Parallel and Intersecting Lines | Angles made by crossing and parallel lines, with reasoning |
| Part I | 6 | Number Play | Parity, the Virahānka–Fibonacci sequence, cryptarithms |
| Part I | 7 | A Tale of Three Intersecting Lines | How the sides and angles of a triangle behave, explored by drawing |
| Part I | 8 | Working with Fractions | Fraction times fraction, fraction divided by fraction |
| Part II | 1 | Geometric Twins | Congruence of plane figures |
| Part II | 2 | Operations with Integers | Multiplying and dividing positive and negative integers |
| Part II | 3 | Finding Common Ground | Common factors and multiples, prime factorisation, HCF and LCM |
| Part II | 4 | Another Peek Beyond the Point | Multiplying and dividing decimals |
| Part II | 5 | Connecting the Dots… | Mean, median and mode |
| Part II | 6 | Constructions and Tilings | Practical geometry and patterns in shapes |
| Part II | 7 | Finding the Unknown | Simple equations: using letters and finding their value |
Two things stand out. First, several ideas come back twice: decimals appear in both books, and the integer work of Class 6 returns with multiplication and division. Second, algebra arrives in two steps, expressions in Part I and equations at the end of Part II, so a child who is lost in Chapter 4 of Part I will be lost again in the final chapter of the year. If you studied from the older NCERT books yourself, our article on what changed in the middle-school NCERT books explains the differences.
In Class 6 the NCERT book builds fractions from units, adds and subtracts them, and introduces negative numbers through addition and subtraction. Class 7 takes each of those and asks for the harder operation: fractions are multiplied and divided, integers are multiplied and divided, and decimals are multiplied and divided. Alongside that, letters start to stand for numbers. A child carrying a small Class 6 gap now meets it twice a month.
Looking forward, Class 8 uses Ganita Prakash Part I and Part II as well, and the algebra and geometry reasoning only grow. That is why the habits a tutor sets in Class 7 (one step per line, a check at the end, a reason next to every angle) are worth more than any single chapter. The year before is covered on our Class 6 maths tutors in Gurgaon page; the year after on Class 8 maths tutors in Gurgaon. Routines and the other subjects of these years are covered by our Class 6–8 home tuition guide for Gurgaon.
Parents often ask how to tell whether tuition is working before the next test. Open the maths notebook and look for four things:
If these are missing, marks are probably being lost even when answers are right, especially in schools that give credit for method. Making that layout a reflex is the core of Class 7 tuition.
Original problems at the level of the two Class 7 books, each written the way a tutor would want it in the notebook.
Problem. Kabir is 4 years older than twice his sister's age. Kabir is 18. How old is his sister?
The hard part is the second line, not the solving. Children who can solve 2s + 4 = 18 instantly still freeze at "4 years older than twice", which is why a tutor should spend more time on writing equations than on solving them.
Problem. Work out (−3) × (5 − 9) + (−24) ÷ 6.
This mixes the Arithmetic Expressions chapter (order of operations) with Operations with Integers, which is exactly how school tests combine them.
Problem. A jug holds 3/4 of a litre of juice. Each glass takes 3/8 of a litre. How many glasses can be filled?
Showing the "how many fit" meaning first means the child can tell when an answer is unreasonable.
Problem. Five class-test scores out of 20 are 12, 15, 9, 15 and 19. Find the mean, median and mode.
A common slip is to take the middle of the unsorted list (which would give 9). Sorting first is the step to insist on.
Problem. Two angles of a triangle are 48° and 67°. Find the third.
| Chapter | Typical error | How to prevent it |
|---|---|---|
| Arithmetic Expressions | Working left to right through 10 − 2 × 3 and getting 24 | Underline multiplication and division before starting |
| Expressions using Letter-Numbers | Writing 3a + 2b as 5ab | Treat unlike terms as different objects, like apples and bananas |
| Operations with Integers | (−5) × (−2) = −10 | Brackets, plus a pattern table: 3 × (−2), 2 × (−2), 1 × (−2), … |
| Peek Beyond the Point | 0.4 × 0.2 = 0.8 | Estimate: 0.2 of a number is a fifth of it, so the answer must be well below 0.4; it is 0.08 |
| Working with Fractions | Turning the first fraction upside down when dividing | Use the "how many fit" meaning before the rule |
| Finding Common Ground | Confusing HCF and LCM in word problems | Ask: are we sharing out (HCF) or waiting for things to line up (LCM)? |
| Finding the Unknown | Changing one side of an equation only | Say "both sides" aloud each time |
| Geometry chapters | Answers with no reason | One bracketed reason per line, every time |
Schools set their own order, and some interleave chapters from the two books, so the plan starts with the school's syllabus split for each term. Within that, a tutor can organise the year around the threads that run through both books rather than chapter by chapter:
Our term-by-term maths and science plan shows how this fits with science through the year.
CBSE. The two Ganita Prakash books above are the course, and school tests increasingly use their open, reasoning-based questions. A tutor who still teaches from older Class 7 guidebooks will drill some topics the book no longer stresses and miss the reasoning it does. For the CBSE route through Classes 9 to 12, read about CBSE maths tutors in Gurgaon.
ICSE. CISCE sets the junior curriculum and each school chooses its textbook, so there is no common ICSE Class 7 chapter list. Expect a wider spread of topics and plenty of exercises; lessons should follow the school's own textbook and its old test papers, and build the full written working ICSE expects later. More on ICSE maths tutors in Gurgaon.
IB MYP. The MYP serves ages 11 to 16 and assesses work against criteria rather than by totals, with eAssessment optional. In Class 7, help means understanding the unit's task and criteria before the maths. Our page on IB MYP maths tutors in Gurgaon goes further.
Children who race through Number Play and cryptarithms may enjoy contest maths alongside school work; see olympiad tutors in Gurgaon. Families outside Gurugram can use the national Class 7 maths tutor page, and many families pair maths with Class 7 science tutors in Gurgaon.
That first class costs you nothing. Unhappy with it? A second tutor from the same shortlist can take a trial, and a change of tutor months later is free as well.
Class 7 timetables fill up with sport, music and longer homework, so maths tuition needs a fixed slot that survives busy weeks. Weekday slots soon after school usually beat late evenings, when children are tired and roads such as Golf Course Extension Road and Sohna Road are at their slowest. Holding a regular weekend session for mixed revision keeps the two-book course from drifting.
Home tuition helps most when the issue is how working is laid out, because the tutor sees each line being written. Online sessions work for a child who already writes neatly, as long as the notebook is visible on camera. Around Sector 57 and Sushant Lok, many tutors can reach families for home visits on weekdays. In the Golf Course Extension Road sectors such as Sector 65, near our Sector 66 office, early-evening slots fill first. Along Dwarka Expressway, a weekend home session with an online one midweek is the usual mix.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Class 7 maths rates are chosen by each tutor and printed on your shortlist before any demo. For what pushes a rate up or down, read home tuition fees in Gurgaon.
Tutors who join go through an ID check; the Verified badge appears only after our team has reviewed the ID. The steps are on how we check tutors. The schools families ask about are listed below, by board.
Tell us the board, whether the school is in Part I or Part II, the chapter causing trouble, your sector and which afternoons are free. Two or three Class 7 maths tutors are matched, and your child meets one in a free demo class. Sectors, zones and other subjects are on our list of home tutors in Gurgaon; every class from 6 to 12 is on maths home tutors in Gurgaon.
Parents often tell us their child's school so the tutor can follow the same board and books. These Gurugram schools follow CBSE, ICSE and ISC, IB or Cambridge IGCSE, as shown on each school's own site or its board's directory, with the sector each is in. NXTutors has no tie-up with any school; tutors are matched by board and syllabus, and the list is alphabetical, not a ranking.

CBSE Class 7 uses two maths books in Gurgaon schools in 2026-27: NCERT's Ganita Prakash and Ganita Prakash Part II. Part I has eight chapters, from Large Numbers Around Us to Working with Fractions, and Part II has seven, from Geometric Twins to Finding the Unknown. Ask the school for its term-wise split and share it with the tutor.
Algebra starts in Class 7 maths for Gurgaon CBSE students in Part I, Chapter 4, Expressions using Letter-Numbers, where letters first stand for numbers. It returns at the end of Part II in Finding the Unknown, on simple equations. A child unsure about expressions in the first book usually struggles with equations later in the year.
Right answers with low marks in Class 7 maths usually mean a Gurgaon child's working is missing or unclear. Equations need one step per line, geometry answers need a reason beside each statement, and integer work needs brackets around negatives. A tutor who checks the notebook line by line, not just the final answer, can fix this within a term.
Between Class 6 and Class 7, Gurgaon students move from adding and subtracting fractions and integers to multiplying and dividing them, and the same for decimals. Class 7 also brings algebraic expressions, simple equations, congruence, HCF and LCM, and mean, median and mode. Gaps from Class 6 in fractions or negative numbers show up quickly.
Yes, a Gurgaon tutor can teach ICSE Class 7 maths if they work from your school's textbook. ICSE schools follow the CISCE curriculum but each chooses its own book, so there is no common chapter list. Share the book and recent test papers, and we match tutors who teach ICSE and expect full written working.
Class 7 is not too early for olympiad maths for a Gurgaon child who enjoys puzzles such as the Number Play chapter. Olympiad problem-solving is a different goal from school marks, though, and works well only once school maths is secure. Agree with the tutor how to keep the two separate in the weekly plan.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. A Class 7 maths tutor in Gurgaon sets their own rate, which appears on your shortlist ahead of the free demo.
Home tuition helps a Gurugram Class 7 maths student most when the problem is how working is set out, because the tutor sees every line being written. Online suits a child who already writes neatly, with the notebook on camera. In sectors with fewer tutors nearby, families often pair a weekend visit with a short weekday online catch-up.
To get matched with a Class 7 maths tutor in Gurgaon, send NXTutors the board, the book or chapter your child is on, your sector and your free slots. We shortlist two or three matched tutors, with each fee shown before the first class. The first class is a free demo, and switching tutor later is free.
