Tutors who join go through an ID check. Tell us the class, board and your sector: we share two or three matched tutors, each with their fee, and the first class is a free demo, at home or online.
Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

IGCSE Biology is two different courses in Gurugram, depending on the school. Cambridge IGCSE Biology 0610 is tiered into Core and Extended and ends with three papers, one of them practical. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Biology 4BI1 has no tiers and two written papers. Most students who struggle know the biology; they lose marks to command words, unfamiliar data and the practical paper. A good IGCSE biology tutor starts from the exact syllabus code, tier and exam series, then trains those skills on past questions. This guide covers both courses for the 2026-2028 exams, with worked examples and a two-year plan.
The code on your child's entry or report decides almost everything a tutor does. A quick comparison from the official syllabus documents:
| Cambridge 0610 | Edexcel 4BI1 | |
|---|---|---|
| Tiers | Core (grades C–G) or Extended (A*–G) | None; one route for everyone |
| Grades | A* to G | 9 to 1 |
| Papers | Multiple choice, theory, and Paper 5 (practical) or Paper 6 (written questions on practical work) | Paper 1 (2 hours, 110 marks) and Paper 2 (1 hour 15, 70 marks) |
| Practical skills | A separate paper worth 20% | Tested inside the written papers |
| Exam series | June and November, plus March for schools in India | November and June |
| Content layout | 21 topics, each split into Core and Supplement | Five topics; bold "B" statements examined only in Paper 2 |
If you are unsure, the school's exams office can tell you. Our Cambridge vs Edexcel IGCSE guide for Gurgaon sets out the board-level differences subject by subject, and the IGCSE tutors in Gurgaon page covers every subject.
The current 0610 syllabus covers exams in 2026, 2027 and 2028; Cambridge updated it to version 3 in August 2026 with a revised assessment overview, and has said its 2029 syllabus brings no significant teaching changes. Every candidate sits three papers:
| Paper | Format | Weight | Skill tested |
|---|---|---|---|
| Paper 1 (Core) or Paper 2 (Extended) | 40 four-option multiple-choice questions, 40 marks | 30% | Knowledge and handling information |
| Paper 3 (Core) or Paper 4 (Extended) | Short-answer and structured questions, 1 hour 15, 80 marks | 50% | Knowledge and handling information |
| Paper 5 (Practical Test, 1 hour 15) or Paper 6 (Alternative to Practical, 1 hour) | 40 marks; the school chooses | 20% | Experimental skills only |
Cambridge's split across the whole qualification: half the marks for knowledge with understanding, 30% for handling information and problem-solving, and 20% for experimental skills. Inside the multiple-choice and theory papers, more than a third of the marks are for handling information: reading graphs, tables and unfamiliar contexts. Memorising notes alone cannot reach those.
Cambridge's guidance is clear. Students expected to reach grade C or above, who have studied the Core and Supplement content, are entered for Extended. Students expected to get D or below take Core, where the highest grade available is C. In many schools the tier is settled during Grade 10, so ask when and on what evidence.
The Supplement is where Extended students earn their grade. Examples include osmosis explained through water potential, the limiting factors of photosynthesis, translocation in the phloem, the advantages of a double circulation, and converting between millimetres and micrometres. A student near the Core/Extended line needs a tutor who teaches these early, so the school sees Extended-level work before it decides.
| Block | Syllabus topics | Common sticking point |
|---|---|---|
| Life and cells | Characteristics and classification of living organisms; Organisation of the organism; Movement into and out of cells; Biological molecules; Enzymes | Diffusion, osmosis and active transport mixed up; enzyme answers that say "killed" |
| Plants | Plant nutrition; Transport in plants | Limiting-factor graphs; linking transpiration rate to conditions |
| Human body | Human nutrition; Transport in animals; Diseases and immunity; Gas exchange in humans; Respiration; Excretion in humans; Coordination and response; Drugs | Sequencing pathways (blood through the heart, a reflex arc) in order |
| Reproduction and genes | Reproduction; Inheritance; Variation and selection | Genetic diagrams without gametes; natural selection told as a story without the mechanism |
| Ecology and applied biology | Organisms and their environment; Human influences on ecosystems; Biotechnology and genetic modification | Energy-flow calculations; vague answers on conservation |
Schools order these differently, so the tutor follows the school scheme and returns to each block with past-paper questions by topic. If your child sits Co-ordinated or Combined Science rather than Biology alone, our IGCSE science tutors page and the blog on separate, co-ordinated or combined science explain the difference.
Cambridge publishes what each command word means. Three cause most lost marks in biology:
Students often explain when asked to describe, and so earn nothing for correct science. Others describe when asked to explain, repeating the data without a reason. Tutoring that marks every answer against the published mark scheme fixes this faster than any amount of reading.
A drawing of a cell is 36 mm long. The magnification is ×400. Actual size = image size ÷ magnification = 36 ÷ 400 = 0.09 mm. Extended students then convert: 0.09 mm × 1000 = 90 µm. Marks are lost for dividing the wrong way, or for a unit that is missing or not the one asked for.
Time for starch to disappear: 20 °C, 240 s; 30 °C, 120 s; 40 °C, 60 s; 50 °C, 150 s; 60 °C, not reached. Describe: time falls from 240 s to 60 s between 20 °C and 40 °C, so the rate rises; above 40 °C the time rises again, and at 60 °C starch is not broken down. Explain: warmer molecules move faster, so more enzyme–substrate collisions occur; above the optimum the active site changes shape, the enzyme is denatured and substrate no longer fits. The word "killed" scores nothing: enzymes are not alive.
"Plan an investigation into the effect of light intensity on photosynthesis in pondweed." Independent variable: lamp distance, say 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50 cm. Dependent variable: bubbles counted over a fixed time. Keep constant: temperature (water bath), the same piece of pondweed and the same hydrogencarbonate concentration for carbon dioxide. Repeat each distance three times and take a mean. Risk: water near the lamp's wiring.
Each example practises a different assessment objective: a calculation, handling data, and experimental skills. A balanced week of tuition touches all three.
Paper 5 is done at the bench and Paper 6 on paper, but both test the same experimental skills. A tutor at home cannot run every experiment, yet can rehearse the conventions Cambridge sets out in the syllabus:
Food tests, a potato-and-salt osmosis set-up and seed germination can all be tried at a kitchen table, which makes Paper 6 questions about them far less abstract.
The 4BI1 specification is arranged in five topics: the nature and variety of living organisms; structures and functions in living organisms; reproduction and inheritance; ecology and the environment; and use of biological resources. Paper 1 is worth 61.1% of the grade and tests the content that is not in bold. Paper 2, worth 38.9%, can test everything, including the bold statements marked "B" that take some sub-topics deeper. Both papers mix multiple choice, short answers, calculations and extended open responses, and a calculator may be used.
The practical investigations are written into the specification, and the skills behind them are examined inside the written papers. A 4BI1 tutor therefore teaches each required practical as a likely exam question, and builds the stamina for a two-hour Paper 1 with extended writing.
| Stage | Focus |
|---|---|
| Grade 9, first term | Cells, transport across membranes, molecules and enzymes; command-word drills from week one |
| Grade 9, rest of year | Plants and the first human systems; topic past-paper questions; one practical write-up a month |
| Grade 10, until the tier decision | Remaining topics, Supplement content for borderline students, full multiple-choice sets |
| Grade 10, after the mocks | Timed full papers marked with the official scheme; an error log by cause; Paper 5 or 6 practice |
The exam series sets the calendar. A March entry, available only to schools in India, compresses Grade 10 compared with June. Check the series with the school and count back from it when planning revision.
Students joining IGCSE from CBSE or ICSE after Class 8 usually know the facts but have not met multiple-choice papers, data questions or the practical paper; the first term should close that gap. Those coming from the IB Middle Years Programme are used to criteria-based tasks and need more timed exam practice.
After Grade 10, the usual next steps are the IB Diploma, A Level, or Class 11 on CBSE or ISC. IB Biology builds most directly on the Extended content; see our IB biology tutors in Gurgaon page. A move to CBSE or ISC Class 11 brings longer NCERT- or CISCE-style written answers, and, for medicine aspirants, NEET preparation. The main biology home tutors in Gurgaon page sets out each route.
Each request brings two or three matched tutors, and you try your pick in a free demo first. Questions worth asking:
Some also cover the other sciences; for those, look at our IGCSE physics and IB and IGCSE chemistry pages. If the demo does not suit, the next tutor on the shortlist gets a turn, and changing tutors later costs nothing.
IGCSE requests come from across the city, including the Golf Course Road belt and Sohna Road. We match biology tutors for homes in Sector 54, Sector 57, DLF Phase 5 and Sector 61, among others. IGCSE biology specialists are fewer than CBSE science tutors, so a hybrid plan helps: weekend visits at home plus a weekday lesson online, with the student's diagrams and graphs on camera. Evening traffic decides more timetables than distance does. See the schools families ask about below; the board-wise list is in our blog on Gurugram schools and their boards.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Every matched tutor's fee is visible to you ahead of the demo; our home tuition fees guide for Gurgaon explains what moves it.

Parents often tell us their child's school so the tutor can follow the same board and books. These Gurugram schools follow Cambridge IGCSE, as shown on each school's own site or its board's directory, with the sector each is in. NXTutors has no tie-up with any school; tutors are matched by board and syllabus, and the list is alphabetical, not a ranking.
For this board: IGCSE tutors in Gurgaon.
More on how these boards differ: Gurugram schools and their boards.
Yes. Tell us the syllabus code on your child's entry or report and we match tutors who teach that course. Cambridge 0610 has Core and Extended tiers and a separate practical paper; Edexcel 4BI1 has no tiers, grades from 9 down to 1, and two written papers that also test practical skills.
Every candidate sits three: a multiple-choice paper of 40 questions (Paper 1 Core or Paper 2 Extended, 30%), a theory paper of 80 marks (Paper 3 Core or Paper 4 Extended, 50%), and one practical paper of 40 marks (20%), either Paper 5 at the bench or Paper 6 in writing. This applies to the syllabus for the 2026, 2027 and 2028 exams.
Cambridge points students likely to achieve C or higher towards Extended, and those likely to get D or lower towards Core. Core can lead to grade C at most, while Extended allows A* to G. If your child is near the line, a tutor can teach the Supplement content early so the school sees Extended-level work before it decides.
By rehearsing the skills the paper tests: planning with independent, dependent and controlled variables, drawing results tables with units, plotting graphs accurately, making clear pencil drawings of specimens and calculating magnification. Simple experiments at home, such as food tests or osmosis in potato strips, make the questions far less abstract.
Cambridge runs 0610 in June and November, with an extra March series open to schools in India. Edexcel 4BI1 is available in November and June. Your school decides the series, so ask which one applies and plan the revision calendar backwards from it.
It works well if the tutor watches the working as it happens. Diagrams, graphs and genetic crosses should be done on paper under a phone camera or on a writing tablet. A weekly mix of a home visit and an online lesson is common in Gurgaon, and it brings a specialist from further away within reach.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Fees are fixed by the tutors themselves and appear on each match before the demo is booked.
Sometimes. Some IGCSE biology tutors also teach the IB Diploma course, and continuity helps in the first term of Grade 11. If not, we match an IB biology specialist when the time comes. Ask about this in the demo if your child is likely to move to the IB.
Tell us the class, board and your area. We share two or three matched tutors, and the first class is a free demo.
