Tutors who join go through an ID check. Tell us the class, board and your sector: we share two or three matched tutors, each with their fee, and the first class is a free demo, at home or online.
Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

ICSE Biology is a separate board paper, not a slice of a combined science exam. In both Class 9 and Class 10 it is a two-hour, 80-mark written paper, and the remaining 20 marks come from practical work assessed in school. The marks are won on exact terms, neat labelled diagrams and reasons written in full sentences. A good ICSE biology tutor in Gurugram teaches to that standard from the first chapter, keeps the practical file moving, and knows which CISCE syllabus your child is on, because the 2028 version moves several topics between classes. This guide sets out the syllabus, three worked answers, a year plan and how to choose a tutor.
CISCE examines ICSE Science (52) as three papers: Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Each is marked on its own, so a child may do well in one and struggle in another. Biology is laid out like this in the official syllabus:
| Component | Marks | Who assesses it |
|---|---|---|
| Written paper (2 hours) | 80 | CISCE, for the Class 10 board exam; the school, in Class 9 |
| Internal assessment of practical work | 10 | The subject teacher |
| Internal assessment of practical work | 10 | An external examiner, often a teacher from the same school who does not teach that class |
The two examiners mark the practical work independently and the school sends the total out of 20 to CISCE. That is why the practical file and the experiments in class deserve real attention, not a rushed fortnight before the deadline. For how Physics and Chemistry fit alongside, see our ICSE physics tutors and ICSE chemistry tutors pages, or the wider ICSE and ISC home tutors in Gurgaon guide.
Class 9 is where ICSE biology starts to read like a textbook for specialists. Children who coasted through middle-school science meet cell organelles, plant tissues, the parts of a flower, double fertilisation and the animal phyla in the same term. The headings differ slightly between the two syllabuses CISCE has published:
| 2027 syllabus (Class 9 in 2025-26) | 2028 syllabus (Class 9 in 2026-27) |
|---|---|
| Basic Biology (cell, tissues) | Basic Biology (cell, tissues) |
| Flowering Plants (flower, pollination, fertilisation) | Flowering Plants (flower, pollination, fertilisation) |
| Plant Physiology (seeds and germination, respiration in plants) | Plant Physiology (seeds and germination, respiration in plants) |
| Diversity in Living Organisms (five-kingdom outline, bacteria, fungi) | Diversity in Animal Kingdom, plus a separate heading on the economic importance of bacteria and fungi |
| Human Anatomy and Physiology (nutrition, skeleton, skin, respiratory system) | Human Anatomy and Physiology (nutrition and teeth, digestion, skeleton, skin) |
| Health and Hygiene | Health and Hygiene |
| Waste generation and management | No separate heading; waste-site visits remain in the practical list |
The hard parts in Class 9 are vocabulary and sequence. Glycolysis and the Krebs cycle appear by name in plant respiration, aerobic and anaerobic respiration need their equations, and the phyla from Porifera to Echinodermata have to be recognised from specimens or charts. A tutor's first job is a running glossary the child writes in their own hand, tested every week. Our Class 9 science home tutors page covers the year across all three sciences.
For students sitting the board exam in 2027, the Class 10 headings are Basic Biology, Plant Physiology, Human Anatomy and Physiology, Population, Human Evolution and Pollution. Human physiology is the heaviest block, and it is diagram-led. The table pairs each area with what the syllabus asks for and where answers usually fall short.
| Area | What the syllabus asks for | Where answers fall short |
|---|---|---|
| Cell division and genetics | Mitosis stages; meiosis as reduction division (stages not required); Mendel's three laws; monohybrid crosses with genotype and phenotype, dihybrid with phenotype only; X-linked haemophilia and colour blindness | Ratios written without a Punnett square; carriers left out of sex-linked crosses |
| Plant physiology | Osmosis, plasmolysis, ascent of sap, transpiration and Ganong's potometer, photosynthesis light and dark phases, plant growth regulators and tropisms | Confusing diffusion with osmosis; stomatal movement explained without the potassium ion exchange theory |
| Circulation and excretion | Heart, blood vessels, ABO and Rh groups, hepatic portal system; kidney, nephron, ultrafiltration and reabsorption | Vessels named wrongly on the heart diagram; Malpighian capsule drawn without afferent and efferent arterioles |
| Nervous and endocrine systems | Brain parts, reflex arc, eye and ear, eye defects (diagrams for myopia and hyperopia only); adrenal, pancreas, thyroid and pituitary hormones, feedback with TSH | Reflex arc without receptor and effector; hormone and gland mismatched |
| Reproduction | Organs, sperm and egg, fertilisation, placenta, menstrual cycle, sex hormones, twins | Placenta functions listed without saying what crosses it |
| Population, evolution, pollution | Demographic terms, population control; Lamarck and Darwin; types of pollution and control measures | Short definitions treated as easy marks and learnt loosely |
The dark reaction needs no detailed equations, but the overall balanced equation for photosynthesis does appear. Our Class 10 science home tutors page looks at the board year across physics, chemistry and biology together.
CISCE published a new ICSE Biology syllabus for the 2028 examination in January 2026. In the usual two-year course, a child in Class 9 during 2026-27 sits the board exam in 2028 and studies from the new document, while this year's Class 10 students finish on the 2027 syllabus. The changes matter for tuition:
A tutor using an older guidebook can teach a topic your child no longer needs, or skip one that is now examined. Ask the school which syllabus year applies, and ask any tutor to show you the CISCE document they plan from. Our blog on ICSE physics, chemistry and biology in Classes 9 and 10 compares the three papers side by side.
After every exam session, CISCE releases an Analysis of Pupil Performance for this paper, in which examiners note what they wanted and where candidates fell short. A tutor who reads it with your child is preparing for the real marking.
Weak answer: "Because RBCs carry oxygen."
Full answer: "Mature mammalian red blood cells have no nucleus and no mitochondria. This leaves
more room for haemoglobin, so each cell carries more oxygen. Without mitochondria the cell does not use the
oxygen it carries." The structure is the point: the missing organelle, then the consequence, then the benefit.
Draw Bowman's capsule as a cup around the glomerulus. Show the afferent arteriole entering wider than the efferent arteriole leaving, and label both. Then add the reason in one line: the narrower efferent vessel keeps blood pressure high in the glomerulus, which forces fluid out by ultrafiltration. Labels go on ruled lines, in pencil, with no shading.
A colour-blind man (XcY) and a carrier woman (XCXc) have children. Gametes: Xc or Y from the father; XC or Xc from the mother. Offspring: XCXc (carrier daughter), XcXc (colour-blind daughter), XCY (normal son), XcY (colour-blind son). So half the sons and half the daughters are expected to be colour-blind. Marks come from the gametes and the square, not just the ratio.
The same habit runs through the monohybrid cross: Tt × Tt gives a genotype ratio of 1 TT : 2 Tt : 1 tt and a phenotype ratio of 3 tall : 1 dwarf. Writing both ratios, labelled, is what the syllabus asks for in a monohybrid cross; for a dihybrid cross only the phenotype ratio is required.
The experiments are done in school, but the understanding behind them can be built anywhere. In Class 9 the list includes onion peel and cheek cell slides, food tests for sugar, starch, protein and fat, a Hibiscus flower, the bean seed and maize grain, animal specimens from Porifera to Mammalia, and the bell jar model of breathing. In Class 10 it covers mitosis slides, diffusion with potassium permanganate, the thistle funnel and potato osmoscope, transpiration with a bell jar, cobalt chloride paper and Ganong's potometer, oxygen release from Hydrilla or Elodea, and models of the heart, kidney, brain, eye, ear and endocrine glands.
A home tutor can rehearse each one on paper: aim, set-up diagram, the control, what is observed and what it shows. A potato, salt and two bowls at the kitchen table turn osmosis into something the child has seen. Keeping the practical file current every fortnight, rather than rebuilding it before submission, protects those 20 marks.
In most Gurugram schools the session starts in April, and the tutor follows the school's chapter order rather than a fixed one. A typical shape:
| Term | Class 9 | Class 10 |
|---|---|---|
| April to July | Cell and tissues, flower and pollination; start the glossary and diagram book | Cell division, genetics crosses, osmosis and transpiration experiments |
| August to October | Seeds, respiration in plants, animal phyla; first written tests in board style | Photosynthesis, circulation, excretion; half-yearly revision with diagrams redrawn from memory |
| November to January | Human physiology and health; practical file checked; school exams | Nervous, endocrine and reproductive systems, population and pollution; practical assessment; timed papers |
| Pre-boards onward | Gaps closed before Class 10 begins | Full two-hour papers, marked strictly; one diagram and five reasons a day |
One session a week usually suffices in Class 9; most families move to two in Class 10, with a third near the pre-boards if biology is the weakest paper.
Coming up from Class 8, a child has met plants, the human body and cells only in outline; ICSE Class 9 adds the terms and diagrams. Looking ahead, ISC Biology (863) in Class 12 is a 3-hour, 70-mark theory paper, a 3-hour practical worth 15 marks, project work adds 10 marks and the practical file 5. In the theory paper, Reproduction carries 16 marks; Genetics and Evolution, and Ecology and Environment, carry 15 each; Biology and Human Welfare carries 14; and Biotechnology and its Applications carries 10. Reproduction and genetics build directly on the ICSE Class 10 chapters, so a secure Class 10 makes ISC lighter.
Students aiming for medicine combine ISC with NEET preparation, where recall of NCERT detail and objective practice matter more. Our NEET biology tutors in Gurgaon page covers that route, and the main biology home tutors in Gurgaon page covers biology on every board.
CBSE folds biology into one Science paper in Classes 9 and 10, built on NCERT books, so there is less biology in total and more competency-based questions. Cambridge IGCSE Biology 0610 tests through multiple choice, theory and a practical paper, and leans on data handling. ICSE asks for more named detail than either, more diagrams, and full written reasons. Families switching boards in Class 8 or 9 should expect a gap in terminology and diagram practice; a tutor can map it chapter by chapter. If your child is on Cambridge, see our IGCSE biology tutors page instead.
Every request is matched with two or three tutors, and the first lesson with your chosen one is a free demo. Use it to test what decides ICSE marks:
If it does not click, the next tutor on the shortlist gets a demo, and changing tutors later costs nothing.
Biology is easier to teach at the same table: the tutor sees each diagram as it is drawn and corrects a label line before it becomes a habit. Evening traffic on the main roads can make a weekday home slot hard to keep, so many families pair one home session at the weekend with one online session in the week, with the notebook on camera. ICSE families are spread through the city; we match biology tutors for homes in DLF Phase 4, South City 1, Sector 43 and Palam Vihar, and in newer sectors a hybrid plan widens the choice. See the schools families ask about below; a fuller list by board is in our blog on Gurugram schools and their boards.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Every matched tutor's fee is shown to you ahead of the demo, and our home tuition fees guide for Gurgaon explains what moves it.
Tutors who join go through an ID check; the Verified badge appears only after our team has reviewed the ID. Read how the ID check works. Parents often tell us their child's school so the tutor can follow the same board and books. These Gurugram schools follow ICSE and ISC, as shown on each school's own site or its board's directory, with the sector each is in. NXTutors has no tie-up with any school; tutors are matched by board and syllabus, and the list is alphabetical, not a ranking.

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Every ICSE biology tutor in Gurugram fixes their own rate, and it is shown on each match before any demo is booked.
To start ICSE biology tuition in Gurgaon, send us the class, syllabus year, weak chapters, your sector and the times that suit. We shortlist two or three matched tutors, each fee shown before the first class. The first class is a free demo, and if it does not click the next tutor gets a turn; switching later is free.
For Gurgaon students, ICSE Class 10 Biology is a two-hour, 80-mark written paper plus 20 marks of internal assessment of practical work. The subject teacher awards 10 and an external examiner the other 10, each marking independently. The school then sends the total out of 20 to CISCE.
Yes, Gurgaon students in Class 9 during 2026-27 follow the new ICSE Biology syllabus for the 2028 examination, published by CISCE in January 2026. It moves the respiratory system to Class 10, makes Genetics its own heading and drops Human Evolution. Students sitting in 2027 stay on the 2027 syllabus, so check the year with the school.
Gurgaon ICSE students usually find Class 10 human physiology hardest, because it carries the most diagrams and terms: heart and vessels, the nephron, brain, eye and ear, and endocrine glands. Plant physiology experiments and genetics crosses come next. In Class 9 the challenge is mostly new vocabulary, from cell organelles to animal phyla.
A Gurgaon home tutor can protect ICSE biology practical marks by rehearsing each school experiment on paper: aim, labelled set-up, control, observation and conclusion. Simple kitchen-table demonstrations, such as potato strips in salt water for osmosis, make ideas stick. Keeping the practical file current every fortnight protects those 20 marks.
ICSE biology answers in Gurgaon often lose marks through near-miss terms, undisciplined diagrams and reasons written as bare facts. Ureter for urethra or auxin for gibberellin costs the mark, and labels must sit on ruled lines without shading. CISCE's Analysis of Pupil Performance shows what examiners wanted, and a tutor should read it with your child.
A Gurgaon ICSE student is better off with a biology-only tutor when biology is the one weak paper, and one science tutor when all three need steady support. A specialist drills diagrams and written reasons faster. Many families start with a science tutor in Class 9 and add a biology specialist in Class 10.
For ICSE biology in Gurugram, home tuition is usually easier because the tutor sees each diagram as it is drawn and fixes label lines early. Evening traffic can make weekday home slots hard to keep, so many families pair a weekend home session with a weekday online session, notebook on camera.
Yes, we match ISC biology tutors in Gurugram for Classes 11 and 12, including students also preparing for NEET. ISC Biology (863) in Class 12 is marked out of 100: theory 70, practical 15, project work 10 and practical file 5. Reproduction and genetics build directly on ICSE Class 10, so a secure Class 10 makes ISC lighter.
Tell us the class, board and your area. We share two or three matched tutors, and the first class is a free demo.
