Tutors who join go through an ID check. Tell us the class, board and your sector: we share two or three matched tutors, each with their fee, and the first class is a free demo, at home or online.
Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

Class 9 is the year the syllabus gets deeper and faster, and it is the first half of a two-year course for CBSE, ICSE and IGCSE students. A tutor helps most in Class 9 when they start in the first term, fix the gaps from middle school before new chapters pile on, and treat the year as preparation for Class 10 rather than a year that does not count. For most students that means a maths tutor, a science tutor, or one tutor for both. This guide explains what changes from Class 8, how the year works on each board, including CBSE's new 2026-27 scheme, ICSE, the start of IGCSE and IB MYP Year 4, which subjects need help, and how to test a tutor. Abhinandan Tiwary writes on Class 9 and 10 CBSE and ICSE maths, and Aaditya Kashyap on CBSE and ICSE science.
Because it is. Maths moves from calculating to reasoning: geometry asks for proofs, algebra becomes a tool rather than a topic, and word problems need a model before any arithmetic. Science splits into physics, chemistry and biology chapters, each with its own style, from numericals and graphs to equations and labelled diagrams. Answers get longer, tests cover more chapters, and many schools begin to mark in the style of the Class 10 papers.
Many students who did well until Class 8 see marks fall in the first unit tests of Class 9. That is common and usually fixable. The risk is treating it as a phase: gaps from Class 9 carry straight into the Class 10 board or IGCSE exams, with less time to repair them. If your child is still in Class 8, our Class 6 to 8 home tutors in Gurgaon page covers the groundwork.
CBSE treats Classes 9 and 10 as one composite course, so students should take in Class 9 only the subjects they will continue in Class 10. Class 9 is assessed by the school, through internal assessment and an annual exam. From 2026-27 maths and science each have an optional Advanced level, the third language (R3) is compulsory with school-based assessment (this year's Class 9 uses the Class 6 level R3 books), and "Individual in Society" is added. NCERT's new Class 9 books are Ganita Manjari in maths and Exploration in science.
ICSE is a two-year course, and students are registered with CISCE in Class 9. The Class 9 final exam is set by the school; promotion needs at least 33% in five subjects, including English, and 75% attendance. Subjects cannot be changed after 15 September of the Class 9 year, and a subject cannot be taken in Class 10 unless it was studied in Class 9. Each subject is 80% external exam and 20% internal assessment.
Most Gurgaon schools that offer IGCSE teach it over Grades 9 and 10, with the external exams at the end. Maths 0580 is sat in the June or November series, and Cambridge also runs a March series in India. In maths the school later enters each student for Core or Extended, and that choice should shape how a tutor teaches from the start.
The MYP runs for students aged 11 to 16, so Grade 9 sits near its end. Work is marked against criteria rather than totals, and the IB's eAssessment is optional for schools. This is when criteria work gets serious; our IB MYP maths and IB MYP science pages explain each criterion.
The chapter maps, unit marks and worked examples now sit on two Gurgaon pages of their own: Class 9 maths home tutors in Gurgaon and Class 9 science home tutors in Gurgaon. Families comparing boards can use our guide to Gurgaon schools by board, which lists the board each named school follows without ranking them.
From 2026-27, CBSE offers maths and science in Class 9 at a Standard level for everyone and an optional Advanced level. A student may take neither, one or both. Every student sits the common 80-mark, 3-hour paper; an Advanced student also sits an extra 25-mark, 1-hour paper made up entirely of higher-order questions. Advanced marks are not added to the overall total; a score of 50% or more earns a marksheet note that the Advanced Level was cleared (CBSE calls this wording tentative). In Class 9 the Advanced papers are school-based, and they reach the Class 10 Board exam from 2027-28.
Maths Advanced adds six chapters, from Sets and Logarithms to Combinatorics; Science Advanced adds ten, from Measurement to biotechnology. For a student already secure in the Standard course, it is a fair test of interest in maths or science. For a student whose Standard marks are slipping, it adds load without helping the total. A tutor should give an honest view by the first term, and our guide to CBSE Class 9 Advanced maths and science walks through the decision.
Parents often think the important choices come in Class 10 or 11. On every board, several are made earlier than that, some of them by the September of Class 9.
| Board | Choice made in or around Class 9 | Why it matters | How a tutor helps |
|---|---|---|---|
| CBSE | Subjects for the two-year course; whether to take Advanced maths, science, both or neither; the third language | Class 9 subjects should continue into Class 10. For students starting Class 9 in 2026-27 there is no Basic or Standard maths choice later: CBSE is replacing it with Standard plus optional Advanced, which is school-based in Class 9 and joins the Board exam from 2027-28 (see Class 9 maths tutor in Gurgaon) | An honest view of whether Advanced material helps or just adds load |
| ICSE | Group II and Group III subjects, fixed by 15 September of Class 9 | Subjects cannot change later, and each carries 20% internal assessment | Checking early that the student can manage the chosen subjects |
| IGCSE | Subject options; later, the tier in maths and sciences | A tier sets the grade range a student can reach | Teaching to the higher tier where realistic, and flagging it early if not |
| IB MYP | Course choices the school offers for the final MYP years; project topics | Shapes final-year assessment and later Diploma choices | Explaining criteria and planning long tasks, never doing the work |
Two subjects with a tutor is usually the most a Class 9 week can hold without squeezing out self-study.
Waiting for the half-yearly result to act costs half the year. These signals appear in the first two months:
Any two of these together are a good reason to book a demo in the first term.
School calendars differ a little, but most follow the same shape. A tutor should plan with it:
| When | Focus | Tutor's job |
|---|---|---|
| April to June | New course starts; summer break | Diagnose Class 8 gaps in algebra, fractions and basic science; get one or two chapters ahead |
| July to September | First unit tests; subject choices settle | Keep exercises up to date; start a mistakes notebook; review every test paper |
| October to December | Heavier chapters; internal assessment work | Repair the weakest three chapters; practise full written answers; keep projects and lab work on time |
| January to March | Annual or final exam | Timed revision papers; list the topics that must be secure before Class 10 begins |
If your child is in Class 8 now, the summer before Class 9 is the cheapest time to close gaps; our Class 8 to 9 summer plan for maths and science lists what to cover. The summer after Class 9 is the quiet chance to consolidate before the board year. Our Class 10 home tutors in Gurgaon page takes the plan from there, and our CBSE Class 10 maths preparation guide shows where Class 9 chapters lead.
Not as a first step. Foundation work adds depth and harder problems, which suits a student already secure in the school syllabus; for one whose marks are slipping, it adds hours without fixing the basics. School syllabus first, then depth. Our IIT foundation tutors in Gurgaon page explains how foundation work fits around Class 9, and the Olympiad preparation guide covers the other route for a student who loves problems.
Home tuition suits a student who needs someone to sit with them through written practice, which in Class 9 means maths proofs and science numericals. Online opens up specialists who may not live nearby, such as an ICSE maths or IGCSE science tutor, and saves time on busy evenings. The tutor must see the working live through a writing tablet, a shared whiteboard or a phone camera over the notebook. A common plan is one home session and one online session a week with the same tutor. Our guide to home or online tutoring compares the two.
The first class is a free demo. For a transition-year student, use it to test planning as well as teaching:
If the first demo is not right, we set up the next tutor on the shortlist, and switching later is free. Tutors who join go through an ID check; the Verified badge appears only after our team has reviewed the ID.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. For Class 9, the fee depends on the board, whether one tutor covers maths and science or each has a specialist, the tutor's experience with your board, travel at your slot, and sessions per week. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each shortlisted tutor's fee before the demo. See our pricing guide for more.
In Old Gurugram and Palam Vihar, where many tutors live and most families follow CBSE or ICSE, home sessions two or three times a week are simple to arrange, for example in Palam Vihar or Sector 4. Along Golf Course Road, in DLF Phase 1 and Sector 43, more families ask for IGCSE and MYP tutors, and slots before 5 pm or after 7:30 pm avoid the worst traffic. On Sohna Road and Golf Course Extension Road, in sectors such as Sector 70 and Sector 57, a tutor who has taught your board's recent papers matters more than a short drive.
In the newer sectors along the Southern Peripheral Road and Dwarka Expressway, such as Sector 79 and Sector 37D, fewer tutors live nearby, so families often combine a weekend home class with online sessions on weekdays. If your child has changed board or school for Class 9, tell us: the adjustment is part of what the tutor needs to plan for.
Tell us the board, the subjects, your sector or society and your slots. We shortlist two or three tutors, and the first class is a free demo. Book a free demo, browse tutor profiles, see the ICSE maths and IGCSE maths pages for Gurgaon, or browse by area on the page of home tutors in Gurgaon.
Parents often tell us their child's school so the tutor can follow the same board and books. These Gurugram schools follow CBSE, ICSE and ISC, IB or Cambridge IGCSE, as shown on each school's own site or its board's directory, with the sector each is in. NXTutors has no tie-up with any school; tutors are matched by board and syllabus, and the list is alphabetical, not a ranking.

Because the syllabus gets deeper and faster at once. Geometry asks for proofs, algebra becomes a tool, science splits into physics, chemistry and biology styles, and answers get longer. Gaps from middle school show up quickly. A drop in the first unit tests is common and fixable if it is addressed in the first term rather than left to Class 10.
Class 9 is assessed by the school, but CBSE treats Classes 9 and 10 as one composite course, so students should take in Class 9 only the subjects they will continue in Class 10. The board exam comes at the end of Class 10, and it builds directly on what was learnt in Class 9.
CBSE's 2026-27 curriculum adds optional Advanced courses in maths and science, makes the third language (R3) compulsory with school-based assessment, and introduces "Individual in Society" as an interdisciplinary area. NCERT's new Class 9 books are Ganita Manjari for maths and Exploration for science. Ask the school which options it offers.
Only early. CISCE's regulations do not allow ICSE subjects to be changed after 15 September of the Class 9 registration year, and a subject cannot be taken in Class 10 unless it was studied in Class 9. If your child is struggling with a chosen subject, speak to the school well before that date.
Maths and science, for most students. In maths, look at algebra, geometry reasoning and word problems; in science, physics numericals usually cause the most trouble. English, social science and languages generally need a weekly routine more than a tutor. Two tutored subjects is usually the most a Class 9 week can hold.
Only if the Standard course is already secure. Advanced is optional, adds an extra 25-mark, 1-hour paper of higher-order questions, and its marks are not added to the overall total; a score of 50% or more earns a marksheet note. It suits a student who enjoys the subject. A student who is struggling gains more from firming up Standard work.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. For Class 9 the fee depends on the board, subjects, travel and sessions per week. You see each shortlisted tutor's fee before the free demo.
Yes. For IGCSE we match tutors on the exact syllabus and, in maths, with the Core or Extended tier in mind, since Grade 9 is usually the first of two years. For IB MYP Year 4 we look for tutors who teach from the assessment criteria and help plan long tasks without doing the work.
