Tutors who join go through an ID check. Tell us the class, board and your sector: we share two or three matched tutors, each with their fee, and the first class is a free demo, at home or online.
Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

Parents in Gurgaon usually come to us about English for one of three reasons. A Class 9 or 10 student is losing marks on writing formats and literature answers. A family has moved to the city, or changed school, and the child is now on a board that expects far more reading and writing than before. Or a younger child is not yet reading confidently. Each needs a different tutor. This page covers the CBSE and ICSE Class 10 papers side by side, what changes when a student moves to IGCSE or IB, early reading, and how to set up English tuition around Gurugram's traffic, zone by zone. For the full picture of how every board examines English, see our national English home tutor guide.
"English tuition for Class 10" is one of the most common searches we see from Gurgaon. Most Class 10 students here sit CBSE or ICSE, often in the same society, and the two papers call for different preparation. A tutor who knows only one of them will spend the demo teaching the wrong thing.
| CBSE (2026-27 curriculum) | ICSE (CISCE syllabus) | |
|---|---|---|
| Papers | One paper of 80 marks | Two papers, language and literature, each 2 hours and 80 marks |
| Writing tasks | Formal letter and analytical paragraph on a chart or graph, 100 to 120 words each | Composition of 300 to 350 words, a letter, and a notice with a matching e-mail |
| Reading | Two unseen passages, one discursive and one with data, 20 marks | One unseen passage of about 500 words with vocabulary, short answers and a summary |
| Grammar | 10 marks of gap-filling, editing and transformation | A compulsory question on prepositions, conjunctions, verbs and sentence structure |
| Literature | 40 marks from two NCERT books | A full paper on the prescribed play, stories and poems |
| Internal marks | 20, including 5 for listening and speaking | 20 per paper: listening and speaking for language; assignments for literature, marked half by the teacher and half by an external examiner |
What this means for a tutor. A CBSE student gains most from answer structure: hitting the word limit, covering each point the question asks, and practising the analytical paragraph, which many students find unfamiliar. An ICSE student needs stamina and speed, because a long composition and a summary in the same two hours leave little room for slow planning. For both, literature answers that refer closely to the text are where marks are won back fastest.
CBSE now holds two Board exams for Class 10: everyone sits the main exam from mid-February, and a student who has passed can try to improve up to three subjects, languages included, in the May exam. English is often a sensible one to keep in reserve, because writing marks respond quickly to focused practice.
The analytical paragraph is the CBSE task students find least familiar, so here is how a tutor turns a weak answer into a full one. The practice task gives a bar chart of how 200 students in one school year travel to school: bus 90, car 60, walking or cycling 50.
Weak answer: "The chart shows how students travel. Many go by bus. Some go by car. Walking is good for health so more students should walk."
What the tutor points out: no figures, no comparison, an opinion the chart does not support, and no overview sentence. Each of those costs marks.
Rewritten: "The bar chart compares how 200 students travel to school. The bus is the most common mode, used by 90 students (45%), followed by the car with 60 (30%), while 50 students (25%) walk or cycle. Buses and cars together therefore account for three-quarters of all journeys. Overall, the data show that most students depend on motor transport, and only a quarter reach school under their own power."
The rewrite opens with what the chart shows, quotes every figure with a percentage, compares rather than lists, and ends with a conclusion drawn only from the data. Done once a week with real feedback, this pattern is usually secure within a term. The same discipline, figures first and opinion last, also helps in social science source and data questions.
English is often the subject that gets squeezed out of a Gurgaon Class 10 week, behind maths, science and coaching. A light but steady plan protects the marks without taking much time:
Many families fold English into a wider Class 10 plan; our Class 10 home tutors in Gurgaon page and the CBSE Class 10 board-year plan for Gurgaon show how. ICSE families can read our notes on ICSE Class 10 English papers.
Gurugram's newer sectors, especially along the Dwarka Expressway, have many families who moved from Delhi or other cities, sometimes in the middle of a school year. English is often where the change shows first, because each board asks for a different kind of reading and writing.
Our guide for families moving to Gurgaon and our guide to switching from CBSE to IB or IGCSE cover the wider move.
For children in the early years, English tuition is really reading tuition. The signs are easy to miss in a busy week: a child who guesses words from the first letter, avoids reading aloud, or can decode a page but cannot say what it was about. A tutor for this age should spend most of the session on the child reading aloud, sounding out unfamiliar words and talking about the story, with a little writing at the end.
Keep it short and frequent. Two or three short sessions a week, at home, work better for a six-year-old than one long session, and a little daily reading with a parent makes the tutor's work stick. For primary children who need help across subjects, see our primary home tutors in Gurgaon page.
"An English tutor" covers very different people. Before we shortlist, we ask what the problem actually is, because the right profile and the right number of sessions follow from it.
| What you are seeing | Look for a tutor who | Typical rhythm |
|---|---|---|
| Class 9 or 10 marks lost on letters, paragraphs or literature answers | Has taught your board's current paper and marks to its scheme | One or two sessions a week, with one writing task set each time |
| A new board after moving to Gurgaon | Has helped students through that particular switch | Two sessions a week for the first term, then one |
| IGCSE or IB English analysis and coursework | Teaches unseen-text analysis and knows the rules on coursework help | One longer session a week, often online |
| A young child not yet reading confidently | Works with early readers and is patient with reading aloud | Two or three short home sessions a week |
| Understands English but will not speak up | Builds speaking through discussion, talks and role play | One session a week focused on speaking, plus daily reading |
Tell us which row fits your child when you send a request; it changes who we put forward. If the other language is the bigger worry, we can also match a tutor for CBSE or ICSE Hindi, and families still choosing a school can see the board each listed school follows in our guide to Gurgaon schools by board.
"English tuition near me" means something different in each part of Gurugram. The board mix, the type of housing and the evening traffic all change what works.
| Zone | What families here tell us | What tends to work for English |
|---|---|---|
| Old Gurugram (Sectors 1 to 23, Palam Vihar) | Mostly CBSE, many ICSE; many tutors live locally | Home tuition two or three times a week; compare two demos, since the local choice is wide |
| Central Gurugram | CBSE and ICSE, with IB and IGCSE in international schools; reachable from most of the city | Home tuition with a board specialist; ask for a demo on your child's actual paper |
| Golf Course Road and MG Road | Many IB, IGCSE and CBSE students; heavy office traffic from about six | Slots before 5 pm or after 7:30 pm; online on weekdays and a home session at the weekend |
| Golf Course Extension Road and Sohna Road | Large gated societies; CBSE and ICSE with growing IB and IGCSE demand | Register the tutor at the gate once; weekend mornings are a good slot on Sohna Road |
| Southern Peripheral Road and New Gurugram | Newer societies spread out, fewer local tutors | Online English for older students; home sessions for young readers where a local tutor is available |
| Dwarka Expressway | Newly occupied societies, many families moving in mid-year | A tutor who has handled a board switch; an online demo first to test two tutors quickly |
English suits online tuition well from about Class 5 upwards: writing can be shared in a document or photographed, and the tutor marks it before the next class. That makes an IB or IGCSE English specialist practical even in sectors where none lives nearby. See how we set this up on our online tutoring for Gurgaon students page.
The first class is a free demo, and for English it is worth preparing for. Keep the last marked English paper or a recent composition ready and give it to the tutor at the start. Then watch:
If the first tutor is not right, tell us and we arrange a demo with the next one on the shortlist. Switching tutor later is also free. Our checklist for choosing a home tutor in Gurgaon covers the practical side, from gate entry to where the class sits.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. In Gurgaon, an English tutor's fee depends mostly on the class, the board, the tutor's travel at your slot and how many sessions a week you book; online sessions remove the travel. You see each shortlisted tutor's fee before the demo. Our guide to home tuition fees in Gurgaon helps with budgeting, and the pricing guide covers the whole site.
We match English home tutors across the city. In Old Gurugram, families in Sector 14 and Palam Vihar usually find a tutor who lives close by. In Central Gurugram and along Golf Course Road, South City 1, Sector 40 and Sector 43 draw tutors from several directions. On Golf Course Extension Road and Sohna Road, requests come from sectors such as Sector 57 and South City 2. Further out, families in Sector 82 and Sector 37D often combine a home session with online classes.
Tutors who join go through an ID check; the Verified badge appears only after our team has reviewed the ID. Parents often tell us their child's school so the tutor can follow the same board and books. These Gurugram schools follow CBSE, ICSE and ISC, IB or Cambridge IGCSE, as shown on each school's own site or its board's directory, with the sector each is in. NXTutors has no tie-up with any school; tutors are matched by board and syllabus, and the list is alphabetical, not a ranking.

Yes, NXTutors matches Class 10 English tutors in Gurgaon for CBSE and ICSE, at home or online, on the board your child sits. CBSE is one 80-mark paper with a formal letter and an analytical paragraph, while ICSE has separate two-hour, 80-mark language and literature papers. A tutor who knows only one board teaches the wrong thing.
To find English tuition near you in Gurugram, send NXTutors your sector or society, your child's class and board, and the slots you can manage. We shortlist two or three tutors who can reach you then, with each fee shown before the first class. The first class is a free demo, switching tutor later is free, and where local choice is thin an online or hybrid plan widens it.
After a move from CBSE to IGCSE in Gurgaon, the English tutor you need depends on which English course your child sits. Ask the school whether it is First Language English (0500) or English as a Second Language (0510 or 0511). First Language needs analysis of how writers create effects and extended writing; Second Language needs accurate reading, writing and listening practice.
Yes, a Gurgaon tutor can help a young child start reading in English, mostly by listening to them read aloud. The tutor helps them sound out new words and talks about the story. Two or three short home sessions a week work better than one long one, especially alongside a little daily reading with a parent.
Online English tuition is often a good option in Gurgaon for students from about Class 5 upwards. Writing can be shared in a document or photographed and marked before the next class, and online removes evening travel on roads such as Golf Course Road. It also brings IB and IGCSE English specialists within reach; young readers usually do better at home.
Bring your child's last marked English paper or a recent piece of writing to the English demo class in Gurgaon. A good tutor reads it first, picks two or three priorities and has your child write or speak for much of the class. Ask the tutor to name your board's writing tasks; a specialist knows them without checking.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. For English in Gurgaon, the class, board, the tutor's travel at your slot and how often you meet move the fee. You see each shortlisted tutor's fee before the free demo.
April to July is the ideal time for a Gurgaon Class 10 student to start English tuition, leaving time to read every prescribed text properly. A weekly habit of marked writing can then be built before the half-yearly exam. Starting later still helps by targeting lost marks, but leaves less time to fix writing habits before the pre-boards.
Most Gurgaon Class 9 or 10 students losing marks on letters, paragraphs or literature answers need one or two English sessions a week, with a writing task set each time. A student new to a board after moving to Gurgaon usually needs two a week for the first term, then one. IGCSE or IB English analysis often suits one longer session a week, often online.
Tell us the class, board and your area. We share two or three matched tutors, and the first class is a free demo.
