Tutors who join go through an ID check. Tell us the class, board and your sector: we share two or three matched tutors, each with their fee, and the first class is a free demo, at home or online.
Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

Physics is the JEE subject where knowing the formula helps least. A student can recite every equation of motion and still freeze at a block on a moving wedge, because the real skill is choosing a system, drawing the forces and writing the right equation for that picture. A one-to-one tutor rebuilds that skill from the student's own mistakes. This page covers the JEE (Main) physics units as the NTA published them for the 2026 cycle, what JEE (Advanced) adds, why mechanics comes first, three worked problems, how the experimental unit differs from school practicals, and a Class 11 and 12 plan that fits a Gurugram week. For the other two subjects and the wider calendar, start at the JEE home tutor in Gurgaon hub.
The 2026 JEE (Main) engineering paper gave physics one third of its 300 marks: 25 of the 75 questions, made up of 20 MCQs (Section A) and 5 numerical-value items (Section B), in a three-hour computer test. Correct responses earned +4, incorrect ones lost 1 mark and blanks earned nothing, numerical items included, where the answer was an integer typed on a virtual keypad after rounding. After mathematics, the physics NTA score was the second tie-breaker. These are the 2026 rules; check the 2027 bulletin when the NTA publishes it.
The integer format changes how to calculate: carry exact fractions until the last line, then round once.
The NTA syllabus for 2026 lists twenty physics units. Grouped by area, with what tends to go wrong in each:
| Area | Units in the syllabus | Where the difficulty lies |
|---|---|---|
| Measurement | 1. Units and Measurements | Errors, significant figures and dimensional checks used as shortcuts in other units |
| Mechanics | 2. Kinematics; 3. Laws of Motion; 4. Work, Energy and Power; 5. Rotational Motion; 6. Gravitation | Free-body diagrams, friction direction, constraints, rolling, choosing energy or force methods |
| Matter and heat | 7. Properties of Solids and Liquids; 8. Thermodynamics; 9. Kinetic Theory of Gases | Sign conventions for work and heat; fluid pressure and Bernoulli set-ups |
| Oscillations and waves | 10. Oscillations and Waves | Writing the restoring force; standing waves in strings and pipes; beats |
| Electricity and magnetism | 11. Electrostatics; 12. Current Electricity; 13. Magnetic Effects of Current and Magnetism; 14. Electromagnetic Induction and Alternating Currents | Vector fields, Kirchhoff sign conventions, Lenz's law direction, phasors in LCR circuits |
| Light and EM waves | 15. Electromagnetic Waves; 16. Optics | Sign conventions in mirrors and lenses; interference and diffraction formulas used without the set-up |
| Modern physics | 17. Dual Nature of Matter and Radiation; 18. Atoms and Nuclei; 19. Electronic Devices | Units in eV and nm; mass defect arithmetic; reading diode and logic-gate circuits |
| Experiments | 20. Experimental Skills | Least count, zero error and the logic of each listed experiment |
Our national guide to JEE physics topic-wise preparation works through these chapter by chapter; the national JEE physics tutor page covers online tutoring across India. This page is about one-to-one physics for students in Gurugram.
The 2026 brochure is still the current one on jeeadv.ac.in. JEE (Advanced) 2026 took place on 17 May 2026, on computer, as two compulsory papers of three hours, and every paper had its own physics section. Its physics syllabus headings were: General; Mechanics; Thermal Physics; Electricity and Magnetism; Electromagnetic Waves; Optics; and Modern Physics. Some questions may carry negative marks, yet the exact scheme only appears in the exam-day instructions; preparing for one fixed format is a mistake.
To qualify in 2026, a student needed a JEE (Main) Paper 1 place within the first 2,50,000 successful candidates across all categories, Class XII first taken in 2025 or 2026 with PCM compulsory, and no more than two attempts, in back-to-back years. Advanced physics questions tend to combine two topics, for example a charged particle in a field that is also part of a mechanics problem, so tutoring shifts from speed to depth: fewer problems, each taken apart fully.
When a JEE student says "physics is weak", the cause is usually in mechanics, even if the low scores show up in electricity or optics. Mechanics is where the method of physics is learnt: isolate a body, draw every force, choose axes, write equations, check units. A student who never secured that method meets the same trouble again in electrostatics (forces on charges), magnetism (forces on currents) and rotational problems.
A careful tutor therefore opens with a short diagnostic across kinematics, laws of motion, energy and rotation, using problems the student has not seen. The aim is not a score. It is to see where the working first goes wrong: the diagram, the equation, or the algebra afterwards. Each needs a different repair.
Redraw the situation, mark what is given, and decide which body or group of bodies is the system. Half of all mechanics errors start with an unclear system.
Name the law that applies: Newton's second law, conservation of energy or momentum, Kirchhoff's rules, Gauss's law. Then write it in general form before putting in numbers.
Fix a positive direction and keep it. A negative answer then means something physical, such as a current flowing the other way, instead of an error to hide.
Test units, a limiting case (what if the friction were zero?) and the order of magnitude. These checks catch most slips before the answer is entered.
Original problems, set out step by step. Take g = 10 m/s² where needed.
Problem. A 2 kg block is released from rest on a plane inclined at 37° to the horizontal. The coefficient of friction between block and plane is 0.5. Taking sin 37° = 0.6 and cos 37° = 0.8, find the block's acceleration and its speed after it has slid 4 m.
Working. Along the plane, the component of weight is mg sin 37° = 2 × 10 × 0.6 = 12 N. The normal reaction is mg cos 37° = 2 × 10 × 0.8 = 16 N, so the largest friction force is 0.5 × 16 = 8 N. Since 12 N is more than 8 N, the block slides, and kinetic friction of 8 N acts up the plane. Net force = 12 − 8 = 4 N, so a = 4 / 2 = 2 m/s² down the plane. From v² = u² + 2as with u = 0 and s = 4 m, v² = 2 × 2 × 4 = 16, so v = 4 m/s.
The habit. Friction depends on the normal reaction, not on the weight. Writing μmg = 10 N here gives a = 1 m/s², a wrong answer that looks reasonable. Checking first whether the block moves at all is the second habit: had the incline been gentle enough, friction would simply have matched the pull and a would be zero.
Problem. Two cells, one rated 6 V with 1 Ω of internal resistance and one rated 3 V with 2 Ω, are joined in parallel, positive terminal to positive terminal, across a 4 Ω resistor. Find the current in the resistor and in each cell.
Working. Let V be the potential difference across the resistor. The current out of each cell is its emf minus V, divided by its internal resistance, and these add to give the current in the resistor: (6 − V)/1 + (3 − V)/2 = V/4. Multiplying by 4: 24 − 4V + 6 − 2V = V, so 7V = 30 and V = 30/7 V. The current in the resistor is (30/7) / 4 = 15/14 A, about 1.07 A. The 6 V cell supplies (6 − 30/7) / 1 = 12/7 A, which is 24/14 A. For the 3 V cell, (3 − 30/7) / 2 = −9/14 A.
The habit. The negative sign is the physics: current of 9/14 A flows into the 3 V cell's positive terminal, so the weaker cell is being charged. Check: 24/14 − 9/14 = 15/14 A, matching the resistor. The same answer comes from the equivalent cell, with emf (6/1 + 3/2) ÷ (1/1 + 1/2) = 5 V and internal resistance 2/3 Ω, giving 5 ÷ (4 + 2/3) = 15/14 A. Two methods agreeing is the strongest check there is.
Problem. Light of wavelength 310 nm falls on a metal with work function 2.3 eV. Using hc ≈ 1240 eV nm, find the stopping potential, giving the answer in units of 0.1 V.
Working. Photon energy = 1240 / 310 = 4.0 eV. The maximum kinetic energy of the photoelectrons is 4.0 − 2.3 = 1.7 eV, so the stopping potential is 1.7 V, which is 17 in units of 0.1 V.
The habit. Working in eV and nm avoids powers of ten entirely. Students who convert to joules first often slip by a factor of 1.6 or a power of ten, and in an integer-answer question that is a lost mark.
School practicals are done with apparatus, recorded in a file and examined with a viva. JEE (Main) does not test the hands-on part, but its twentieth unit, Experimental Skills, asks for familiarity with the basic approach and observations of a listed set of experiments. The 2026 list includes the vernier callipers and the screw gauge, the simple pendulum, Young's modulus of a wire, surface tension by capillary rise, viscosity from terminal velocity, the speed of sound with a resonance tube, specific heat by the method of mixtures, the metre bridge, Ohm's law, a galvanometer by half deflection, focal lengths by the parallax method, the prism's deviation curve, refractive index with a travelling microscope and the forward and reverse bias curves of a p-n junction diode.
What JEE asks is the reasoning: the least count of an instrument, correcting for zero error, which graph gives which quantity and why. For example, a screw gauge with a pitch of 0.5 mm and 50 divisions on its circular scale has a least count of 0.5 / 50 = 0.01 mm. A tutor uses the school practical as the base and adds these questions, so the lab work done for the board also earns JEE marks. ICSE and ISC students can see our ICSE physics tutor in Gurgaon page for how the board practical is assessed on that side.
Mechanics, properties of matter, heat, oscillations and waves broadly sit in the Class 11 school course; electricity, magnetism, optics and modern physics in Class 12. The plan below follows an April school start and the JEE (Main) calendar of 2026, which had a January and an April session; revise it once the 2027 bulletin is out.
| Months | What the tutor works on | How progress is checked |
|---|---|---|
| Class 11, April to July | Mechanics diagnostic; units and measurements, kinematics, laws of motion; free-body diagrams every session | Unseen problem sets, marked for method |
| Class 11, August to December | Work and energy, rotational motion, gravitation; school half-yearly exams as their own block | A mixed mechanics test each month |
| Class 11, January to March | Properties of matter, thermodynamics, kinetic theory, oscillations and waves; school finals | A timed 25-question physics set |
| Class 12, April to August | Electrostatics, current electricity, magnetic effects, induction and AC; mechanics kept alive in mixed sets | Error log by unit |
| Class 12, September to December | Optics, electromagnetic waves, modern physics, electronic devices; experimental unit; board practical file and pre-boards | Full-length papers with review |
| Class 12, January to May | JEE (Main) in January, school boards, then the April attempt; harder multi-topic problems if Advanced is next | Mock analysis by unit and by error type |
A Class 12 starter with weak mechanics should repair it alongside the current chapters, not skip it.
With school until the afternoon and coaching on several evenings, a JEE physics student in Gurugram usually has two windows: a free weekday evening and the weekend. Physics teaching needs a long, unhurried block for new or difficult chapters, so many families put the home session on a weekend morning, when roads are quieter, and keep a short online session midweek to go through the coaching test while the mistakes are fresh.
Where you live shapes the mix. Around Central Gurugram and South City 1, tutors can reach homes from several directions, so weekday home visits are easier to keep. Families near Golf Course Road and the DLF phases face heavy office traffic in the evening, which favours early or weekend slots. In the newer societies of the Southern Peripheral Road and New Gurugram, a physics specialist who comes at the weekend and teaches online in between is often a better match than whoever lives closest. The full list of sectors sits on our home tutors in Gurgaon page.
Whether to use coaching, a tutor or both is covered in our guide to JEE preparation in Gurgaon: coaching or a home tutor. For the other subjects, see our JEE maths tutor and JEE chemistry tutor pages for Gurugram; for school physics from Class 9 to 12, the physics home tutor in Gurgaon page; and for medical entrance, the NEET physics tutor in Gurgaon page, where the same units are taught to a different exam.

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Each tutor names a rate, and you can compare those rates before choosing whom to meet; see home tuition fees in Gurgaon for detail.

In the 2026 engineering paper, physics supplied a third of the marks: twenty MCQs and five numerical-value items, 100 marks in all. Each right answer gained 4 marks and each wrong one lost 1, numerical items included; blanks scored nothing. Check the 2027 bulletin when the NTA publishes it.
Twenty units in the 2026 NTA list, from Units and Measurements, Kinematics, Laws of Motion and Rotational Motion through Thermodynamics, Oscillations and Waves, Electrostatics, Current Electricity, Magnetism, Induction and AC, Optics and modern physics, to Electronic Devices and Experimental Skills.
This is a frequent reason families look for a JEE physics tutor. The gap is usually method: drawing the system, naming the law and fixing signs before calculating. A one-to-one tutor watches the student work, finds the step where it breaks, and practises that step on unseen problems until it holds.
Often, yes, for a short spell. Mechanics is where the method of physics is learnt, and weak mechanics tends to show up later as trouble in electrostatics, magnetism and rotation. A few weeks of repair alongside the current Class 12 chapters usually pays back quickly.
Not hands-on. The Experimental Skills unit lists experiments whose method and readings a student should know, such as the vernier callipers, screw gauge, metre bridge, resonance tube and p-n junction diode. Questions test reasoning such as least count, zero error and what a graph gives.
The 2026 brochure on jeeadv.ac.in lists the physics headings General, Mechanics, Thermal Physics, Electricity and Magnetism, Electromagnetic Waves, Optics and Modern Physics. Questions tend to join topics, and the marking scheme is given only in the instructions at the exam, so preparation should not assume a fixed pattern.
Both work. Many Gurugram families keep a weekend home session for new and difficult chapters and an online session midweek for coaching test review, which avoids evening traffic. Online physics works when the tutor can see the student's diagrams and working clearly.
