How Do NXTutors Plans, Credits and Tutor Earnings Work?
Joining NXTutors is free, and the Free plan gives you 160 lead credits a month plus WhatsApp alerts (now being rolled out) for leads that fit you closely. You spend credits to unlock a family's request (at present between 80 and 240 credits a lead), then send one proposal; paid plans are optional and add visibility, AI tools and more credits. Under the platform's current rules, home tutors receive 50% of the first month's fee and the full fee from the second month, and online tutors receive 70% every month.
This guide explains each piece in plain terms: what a lead is, what you see before you unlock it, what moves the price, when credits come back, how extra credits work, what paid plans do and do not do, and how earnings are split. The figures here describe the current rules. They can change, and the pricing page and the tutor terms are always the reference.
Is it free to join NXTutors as a tutor?
Yes. Joining and onboarding are free. You apply on WhatsApp through the form on the become a tutor page, our team replies and sets up your account with you, you confirm it with a one-time code at first login, and you complete your profile: subjects, classes, boards, fee per class, home, online or both, and travel areas. Then you upload your ID in the Documents section for our team to review.
There is never a fee to apply for a tuition. You set your own fee, your own subjects and your own hours, and you are free to teach outside NXTutors.
What does the Free plan include?
- 160 lead credits a month, which you use to unlock leads.
- WhatsApp alerts about a new lead when you are among the five tutors who fit it most closely, up to 10 alerts a month.
- Your full profile, your fee per class and the free demo arrangement, the same as on any plan.
At the current price band, 160 credits covers up to two unlocks at the lower end of the band, or one at a mid-range price. You can stay on the Free plan to see how requests in your subjects and areas look before deciding whether you need anything more.
What is a lead, and what do you see before unlocking it?
A lead is a family's request that has been matched to you. Before you unlock it, you see a masked card. It shows a label for the child (such as the class), a summary of what the family needs, the area or zone, the timing, a budget band and a few "why this fits" signals. It never shows the family's name or phone number.
Leads go only to real, live tutors whose ID our team has approved. Your profile may be visible to families before the ID review, but it gets no leads until the ID check is approved. Tutors who join go through an ID check; the Verified badge appears only after our team has reviewed the ID. The details are on how we verify tutors.
Who is offered a lead?
You are offered a lead when you teach the subject and the class band, and the board where it matters: IB, IGCSE and ISC always, and Indian boards from Class 9. The mode has to match (home or online). For home tuition, the family's sector must be in your travel areas or your zone. Gender is considered only if the parent asked for it. Fit is scored on subject, class, board, place, mode and fee, and blended with quality signals.
How much does it cost to unlock a lead?
At present, unlocking a lead costs between 80 and 240 credits. The price depends on two things: how complete and serious the request is, and how soon the family needs a tutor. A detailed request from a family who wants to start soon sits toward the upper end; a thinner or less urgent one sits lower. The card shows the price before you unlock, so you never spend credits without knowing the cost.
Two limits keep leads worth unlocking:
- At most five tutors can unlock one lead. After that, it shows as Full.
- A lead stays open for about seven days, then expires.
What happens after you unlock a lead?
You send one proposal. It contains a message to the family, your fee per hour and up to three demo slots. Two-way chat opens when the family replies to you or shortlists you. A paid plan alone never opens chat; the family's response does.
Write the proposal as carefully as you would plan a lesson. Mention the class, board and topics from the card, say briefly how you would start, and offer demo times that actually suit the family's stated timing. The guide on how to prepare a demo lesson as a tutor covers what to do once the family says yes. The fee you quote must match the fee the family sees before the demo, and the first class is a free demo with no deposit or registration fee.
When do you get your credits back?
Credits come back in full, automatically, when:
- the lead turns out to be a duplicate or fake;
- the family withdraws the request; or
- the family never opens your proposal within 72 hours.
There is no refund if you simply change your mind after unlocking. Claims must be made within seven days. The refund policy sets out the rules in full.
How do extra credit packs work?
If you use up your monthly credits, you can buy more at any time:
- 500 credits for ₹199
- 1,500 credits for ₹499
Credits you buy never expire, so you can buy a pack and use it over several months. These are the current prices; the pricing page always shows the live figures.
What do paid plans add, and what do they not change?
Paid plans (Pro, Premium and Featured) are optional platform subscriptions. They can add more visibility, only in places clearly labelled "Featured", AI tools, and more lead credits. Their prices and limits are on the pricing page, and they change from time to time, so this guide does not repeat them.
What paid plans never do matters just as much:
- They never change the order. Tutors are ordered mainly by how well they fit each request, then by quality signals such as verified reviews, results with families, experience and profile completeness. Payment never changes that order.
- They are never a fee to apply for a tuition.
- They never open chat on their own. Chat opens when the family replies or shortlists you.
- They do not promise anything. No plan promises leads, students or income.
A sensible approach is to stay on the Free plan until you understand how many requests fit you, then decide whether more credits or the AI tools would genuinely save you time. The post on how NXTutors uses AI describes the kind of help the AI features give.
How do tutor earnings work on NXTutors?
Under the platform's current rules:
- Home tuition: you receive 50% of the first month's fee, then the full fee from the second month onwards.
- Online tuition: you receive 70% of the fee every month.
The fee is always the one you set. These percentages may change, and the tutor terms are the reference for the rules that apply to you at any time.
An illustration with a hypothetical fee
This is plain arithmetic with a round number chosen for the example. It is not a typical fee, and it is not a forecast of what you will earn. Suppose a tutor sets a fee of ₹1,000 an hour and agrees eight classes a month with one family, so the month's fee is ₹8,000.
- Home tuition: in the first month the tutor receives 50%, which is ₹4,000. From the second month the tutor receives the full ₹8,000 each month.
- Online tuition: each month the tutor receives 70%, which is ₹5,600.
Your own figures depend entirely on the fee you set, how many classes a family books, and whether the family continues.

How can you make your credits go further?
- Get your ID approved first. No leads reach you until it is.
- Keep your subjects, classes, boards and travel areas exact. Leads are offered on fit, so an accurate profile means the leads you see are ones you can take. See how to build a tutor profile families trust.
- Read the card before you unlock. Check the timing, area and budget band against your week and your fee.
- Act within the lead's life. Leads expire after about seven days and fill at five unlocks.
- Write a specific proposal. A family that never opens your proposal within 72 hours gets your credits returned, but a proposal they do open is the one that leads to a demo.
How NXTutors can help
NXTutors matches families with tutors on subject, class, board, place, mode and fee. Parents get two or three matched tutors for each request, see each tutor's fee before the demo, and the first class is a free demo. Home tutoring runs across Gurugram and other cities where tutors are available, and online tutoring across India. You can see what families are asking for on the tuition jobs pages, including tuition jobs in Gurugram, and join free from the become a tutor page.
Frequently asked questions
Do I have to buy a plan to get tuition requests?
No. Joining is free, and the Free plan includes 160 lead credits a month and WhatsApp alerts for close-fit leads (now being rolled out), up to 10 a month. Paid plans are optional. They add Featured-labelled visibility, AI tools and more credits, but they never change the order tutors are ranked in and are never a fee to apply for a tuition.
Why do some leads cost more credits than others?
At present the price runs from 80 to 240 credits per lead. It depends on how complete and serious the request is and how soon the family needs a tutor. A detailed, urgent request costs more than a thin or relaxed one. The card always shows the price before you unlock, so you can decide first.
What happens if the family never replies?
If the family never opens your proposal within 72 hours, your credits come back in full, automatically. Credits also come back if the lead is a duplicate or fake, or the family withdraws. Changing your mind after unlocking is not refunded, and claims must be made within seven days.
Do credits I buy expire?
No. Credits you buy in a pack, currently 500 for ₹199 or 1,500 for ₹499, never expire, so you can use them over as many months as you need. For how your monthly plan credits work, and for the live prices, check the pricing page, which always shows the current figures.
Does paying for a plan move me higher in the results?
No. Tutors are ordered mainly by how well they fit each request, then by quality signals such as verified reviews, results with families, experience and profile completeness. Payment never changes that order. Paid plans can add visibility only in places clearly labelled "Featured", kept apart from the ordered results.
How much of the fee do I keep?
Under the platform's current rules, for home tuition you receive 50% of the first month's fee and then the full fee from the second month; for online tuition you receive 70% every month. These figures may change, so treat the tutor terms page as the reference for the rules that apply to you.
