Tutors who join go through an ID check. Tell us the class, board and your area: we share two or three matched tutors, each with their fee, and the first class is a free demo, at home or online.
Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

The CBSE syllabus a Kohima child studies is the national one: NCERT textbooks throughout, with board examinations at the end of Class 10 and Class 12. The local picture is what makes tuition planning particular. The Nagaland Board of School Education uses many of the same NCERT books but runs its school year from January to February; some families switch between the two boards; and in a hill city a tutor's route has to be worked out before the first visit. Below you will find the CBSE priorities class by class, the 2026-27 changes for Classes 9 and 10, the theory and internal split in the senior years, a side-by-side look at CBSE and NBSE, and notes on five Kohima wards. The maths guidance carries Abhinandan Tiwary's byline and the science guidance Aaditya Kashyap's.
| Stage | What is at stake | Tutor's priority |
|---|---|---|
| Classes 6 to 8 | School tests on the NCERT books, no board paper yet | Closing gaps in fractions, ratio, early algebra and science vocabulary while they are small |
| Class 9 | A common maths paper and a common science paper; an Advanced paper is optional | A frank view on whether the Advanced paper is worth your child's time |
| Class 10 | A compulsory first board examination and an optional second one | Everything aimed at the first sitting, with a clear rule for using the second |
| Class 11 | School examinations only | Treating new stream subjects seriously from week one, because Class 12 builds on them |
| Class 12 | A board paper on the whole year's syllabus, plus practical or internal marks | Timed papers, a complete record book, and entrance work where the student needs it |
In each main subject the school keeps 20 marks and the board paper carries 80; a student needs 33% to pass. Around half of every paper now tests competencies through cases, data and real situations instead of plain recall.
Class 9 has a single common paper each for maths and science. Students who want a stretch can add an Advanced paper in either subject, lasting an hour and worth 25 marks, made up of harder questions on additional content. That paper stays outside the aggregate, though 50% or above is noted on the marksheet. In Class 10, the old split between Basic and Standard maths ends with the 2026-27 batch.
Class 10 students now have two chances at the board. Sitting the first is compulsory; after passing, a student may sit the second in no more than three subjects drawn from science, maths, social science and the languages, to raise the score. Plan the year around the first, and use the second only to fix a specific weak result. Chapter help is in our Class 10 maths preparation guide and Class 10 science notes.
Class 12 is examined on that year's complete syllabus, and each subject's paper design comes with the current sample paper, which is what a tutor should be practising from. Useful reading: physics strategies for Class 12, Class 12 organic and inorganic chemistry and Class 12 calculus and algebra.
If close to half of a secondary paper comes as cases and data, exercise drilling alone will not be enough. Such questions are partly a reading test. Students who handle them well tend to do four things:
In the demo, ask the tutor to pick one case question and teach it to your child; it shows at once whether the teaching matches the current paper. For maths, that is Abhinandan Tiwary's area at Class 10; for physics, chemistry and biology, Aaditya Kashyap's.
Some Kohima families move between CBSE and the Nagaland Board of School Education, and some tutors teach both. The overlap is larger than parents might assume, because the state board's own textbook lists name NCERT books for maths and science in Classes 9 and 10 and for the main science subjects in Classes 11 and 12. The differences lie in the paper and the calendar:
| Point | CBSE | NBSE (from nbsenl.edu.in) |
|---|---|---|
| Maths and science books | NCERT | NCERT, per the board's textbook lists |
| Board examinations | Class 10 and Class 12 | HSLC at Class 10 and HSSLC at Class 12; Class 11 ends with a promotion examination |
| Paper design | Sample papers each session, about half competency-based | A blueprint for each subject each year |
| School year | CBSE's own schedule, with dates on cbse.gov.in | In 2026, classes from January and the HSLC and HSSLC in February |
| Social science | The CBSE syllabus | The HSLC 2026 blueprint includes a chapter on Nagaland worth 10 marks |
A student moving to CBSE should spend the first weeks on case-based questions and sample papers; one moving the other way needs the board's blueprint and question bank early, and a revised sense of when the examinations fall. The Nagaland Board tutor in Kohima page explains the state board in detail.
| Part of the week | Drier months | June to September |
|---|---|---|
| Maths | Two home sessions after school | One home session and one online, same tutor |
| Science | One home session and a short online check | Two online sessions; diagrams and numericals shown on camera |
| Practice | One case-based set at the weekend | One case-based set, photographed and marked before the next lesson |
| Heavy-rain evenings | Rarely needed | The visit moves online at the same hour rather than being cancelled |
Class 10 maths and the younger classes gain most from a tutor sitting beside the student and watching each line being written. Science explanations, chapter tests and doubt-clearing translate well to a screen, and for a single senior subject the right specialist may simply not live nearby. Our online tutors for Kohima page covers how to set lessons up, and the home or online tutor article weighs the two.
| Ward | What helps the tutor |
|---|---|
| Bayavü Hill | Say Upper or Lower Bayavü Hill; lanes climb between the two, and the state board's office sits at the upper level, so working-day visitors are common |
| Daklane | Central and easy to reach from most of the city; start after the busy hours around the central market |
| New Market | An address every taxi knows; mention any space to park a scooter on the busy central roads |
| PR Hill | P.R. Hill or Lower P.R. Hill; give the level of the slope; tutors from Officers' Hill or Upper Chandmari are close |
| Merhülietsa | On the western edge next to Agri Farm; share the nearest road point, as hillside paths can be steep |
Zones: North Kohima and Kohima Village, Main Town and Midland, Chandmari and PR Hill and Lerie and Agri Farm. The Kohima home tutors page lists every area.
Two or three tutors come with their fees visible in advance, the first lesson costs nothing, and you can change tutor later at no charge. The checklist for demo classes has more.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Each tutor decides a rate, shown to you ahead of any booking; read the pricing guide and our Kohima home tuition fees article for the questions worth asking.

A Kohima CBSE Class 10 student should plan the whole year around the first board sitting, which is compulsory. After passing, the student may sit the second in no more than three of science, maths, social science and the languages to raise the score. Keep the second for repairing one specific weak result.
The CBSE Class 9 Advanced paper suits a Kohima student who wants a stretch in maths or science beyond the common paper. It lasts an hour, carries 25 marks of harder questions on extra content and stays outside the aggregate, though 50% or above is noted on the marksheet. Ask the tutor for a frank view.
Around half of every CBSE Class 9 and 10 paper now tests competencies through cases and data, so Kohima students need more than exercise drilling. Underline the data and the demand, name the chapter behind the story, treat each sub-part separately and write a line of reasoning, because the method carries marks.
Often, yes, a Kohima tutor can teach a child moving between CBSE and the Nagaland board, because NBSE lists NCERT books for maths and science. The paper and calendar differ: NBSE sets a yearly blueprint per subject, and in 2026 its HSLC and HSSLC were held in February. Moving to CBSE means case-based practice first.
For Kohima students in CBSE Classes 11 and 12, physics, chemistry and biology have 70-mark theory papers plus 30 practical marks. Mathematics or Applied Mathematics, accountancy, economics and business studies carry 80-mark papers with 20 internal marks. Class 12 is examined on the whole year's syllabus, so practise from the current sample paper.
In Kohima, home tuition suits younger children and Class 10 maths, where a tutor watches each line being written. Science checks, tests and senior specialists translate well to a screen. During the June-to-September rains, many families keep the same tutor and move a visit online at the usual hour rather than cancelling.
CBSE home tutors reach wards across Kohima's four zones: North Kohima and Kohima Village, Main Town and Midland, Chandmari and PR Hill, and Lerie and Agri Farm. Tell them the ward, a landmark and the level of the house. On Bayavü Hill say Upper or Lower; in Merhülietsa share the nearest road point.
At a Kohima CBSE demo, ask whether the Class 9 Advanced paper suits your child and how the year is planned around the first Class 10 sitting. Ask the tutor to teach one case-based question now, which sample paper they use this session, and whether heavy rain means switching online at the same hour.
Tell us the class, board and your area. We share two or three matched tutors, and the first class is a free demo.
