Tutoring in Kohima: what to know
Tuition work in Kohima is organised into four zones. North Kohima & Kohima Village runs from the old settlement on the north-eastern heights through Kitsübozou, Naga Bazaar, Peraciezie and Bayavü Hill; Main Town & Midland holds Daklane, New Market, Midland and Officers' Hill; Chandmari & PR Hill covers Upper and Lower Chandmari and PR Hill; and Lerie & Agri Farm takes in Lerie, Agri Farm and Merhülietsa on the southern and south-western edge. This is a hill city with no rail line of its own, where buses and taxis carry most people. Many homes sit above or below the road on stepped paths, so the useful skill is reading a ward, its upper or lower part and a landmark, then knowing where a taxi or two-wheeler can stop.
Most of the board work you will meet is for the Nagaland Board of School Education, whose HSLC paper closes Class 10 and whose HSSLC paper closes Class 12 across three streams, or for CBSE. Some schools follow CISCE's ICSE and ISC, and IB or Cambridge IGCSE learners mostly find a specialist online. The NBSE website publishes the syllabus, blueprints for the HSLC and HSSLC papers, lists of prescribed textbooks, a question bank with past question papers, the academic calendar and exam routines, and the board's office is at Upper Bayavü Hill. Teach from those documents rather than forwarded copies, and state your boards, classes and streams clearly on your profile.
Home and online work fit together across Kohima's year. Rain is heaviest from June to September, when families often keep one weekly session online, and board-year students tend to want extra sessions from the winter onwards. When a family in Midland, for example, sends a request, NXTutors shortlists two or three tutors, starting with those in that ward, then the Main Town & Midland zone, then the rest of Kohima, then online, and the family sees each fee before a free first demo; changing tutor later costs the family nothing. Because online learners may live in any Indian city, your teaching week need not stop at the wards you can reach in person.
How you get tuition work on NXTutors
Six steps from applying to your first class. Swipe to see each step.
-
1
Sign up with a one-time code
Sign up from your phone. A one-time code confirms your number or email; then fill in subjects, classes, boards like NBSE, CBSE or ICSE, and the Kohima wards you can reach every week.
-
2
Upload your ID; our team reviews it
Add a government photo ID next. Our team looks at it before any family sees you, and one ID can be linked to only one tutor account. This proves identity; it is not a police or background check.
-
3
Your profile carries the Verified badge
With the review complete, families can open your profile: boards, the wards you cover between Kohima Village and Lerie, whether you teach at home, online or both, and your own hourly fee.

A family nearby sends a request
Picture a parent in Naga Bazaar or PR Hill asking for help. NXTutors draws up two or three tutors, looking first at that ward, next its zone, then all of Kohima, and lastly online.
-
5
Free demo; the family sees your fee first
Before booking, the parent sees what you charge. Lesson one is a free demo in their home, and we ask a parent to be at home, so you meet the student and learn the route and timing.

Teach at home, online or both
From then on, teach the homes within reach, online learners anywhere in India, or both, perhaps visiting through the term and moving online on the wettest days between June and September.
Boards you can teach in Kohima
In Kohima a tutor may prepare one student for the NBSE's HSLC in Class 10, another for the HSSLC in Class 12, and a third for CBSE from the NCERT books. ICSE and ISC appear where a school is affiliated to CISCE, and IB or Cambridge IGCSE requests are fewer and mostly online. Each board keeps its own documents: NBSE posts syllabus, blueprints, textbook lists, its question bank and exam routines on nbsenl.edu.in, CBSE on its academic portal, CISCE on cisce.org. Name your boards, classes and streams on the profile.
NBSE
HSLC (Class 10); HSSLC (Class 12: Arts, Science, Commerce)
NBSE conducts the HSLC examination for Class 10 and the HSSLC examination for Class 12 in arts, science and commerce streams. Its website publishes the syllabus, blueprints for both papers, lists of prescribed textbooks and a question bank with past papers. Plan lessons around those textbooks and blueprints, and take exam routines from the board itself rather than from shared screenshots.
CBSE students in Kohima live alongside NBSE ones, sometimes in the same ward. Build lessons on the NCERT textbooks, use the board's own sample papers and marking schemes for practice, and get students writing complete, stepped answers. Because JEE and NEET draw on the same NCERT base, thorough chapter work in Classes 11 and 12 serves both goals.
CISCE
ICSE (Class 10); ISC (Class 12)
Some Kohima schools prepare students for CISCE's ICSE at Class 10 and ISC at Class 12. Both mean lengthy written answers over a wide syllabus, set texts in English, and internal assessment in many subjects. Finishing the syllabus with time to spare is the hard part, so build two or three revision passes and regular timed answers. CISCE publishes its regulations and specimen papers online.
