Home tuition in GTB Nagar: what to know

Before the first class

  • Kamla Nagar's market and Netaji Subhash Place are crowded at the evening peak, so afternoon slots work better; for a Civil Lines bungalow, tell the gatekeeper in advance.

What home tuition costs in Delhi

Home tuition in GTB Nagar: the local guide

Reviewed by NXTutors team · 16 Oct 2026 · Facts on places, roads and exams are checked against public sources.

Home tuition in GTB Nagar: the short answer

Yes. A home tutor can come to your house or flat in GTB Nagar, the old Kingsway Camp, and an online tutor can cover the evenings when the lanes near the station are crowded. Send NXTutors the class, board, subject and the pocket you live in, such as Outram Lines, Hudson Lines or Haqiqat Nagar. We reply with two or three matched tutors who travel to GTB Nagar or teach online, and each one's fee is on the shortlist before you book anything. The first class is a free demo, and if the fit is wrong later, changing tutor costs nothing.

GTB Nagar is part of our Pitampura, Model Town and North Campus zone of Delhi. It sits right beside a large university campus, and the metro station is in the middle of the locality, which makes the tutor's journey the easy part. The harder part is choosing a calm slot, and this guide spends most of its time on that.

From Durbar camp to Kingsway Camp to GTB Nagar

The name Kingsway Camp is a clue to the history. The British imperial Durbars of 1877, 1903 and 1911 were held at what is now Coronation Park, a little to the north, and the royal party camped in this area. The road laid out after the 1911 Durbar was called the Kingsway, and the camp area kept the name. On 12 December 1970 the Municipal Corporation of Delhi renamed the area Guru Tegh Bahadur Nagar, though "Kingsway Camp" is still used for the main road and the chowk.

Two more layers were added later. In 1932 a Gandhian ashram campus was founded here, and it still stands. After 1947 the open land, much of it fruit gardens or marsh that flooded in the rains, became a refugee camp for families arriving from across the new border. Unlike some planned resettlement towns of the time, the camp was not laid out with housing and work together, and the neighbourhood that grew from it was shaped later by its closeness to the university campus.

The result today is a dense, mixed locality. Builder floors and independent houses stand next to older residential blocks, newer apartments, hostels and paying-guest buildings. Hudson Lane is a cafe street, and residents say the lanes around the station get crowded at the end of the day.

What this means for lessons at home

  • Pocket names matter. Hudson Lines, Outram Lines and Haqiqat Nagar are close together but distinct, and "Kingsway Camp" can mean the whole area or just the chowk. Give the pocket and the nearest lane.
  • Old buildings, steep stairs. Many houses are older and run up several floors without a lift. Tell the tutor the floor and whether there is a separate family stair.
  • Two clocks run here. The school day and the campus day do not match, so the street can be at its busiest exactly when your child's lesson should be calm.
Which tutor fits your child?

What GTB Nagar families weigh up

Resident reviews of GTB Nagar on NoBroker come back to the same handful of points. Here they are as planning advice, not as a judgement on the locality.

  • Crowds around the station. Reviewers mention crowding near the metro. A tutor coming out of the station at the evening peak may take longer to cover the last few hundred metres than the whole train ride; a slot that starts before the rush avoids that.
  • Bhama Shah Marg traffic. This road is singled out for build-ups. A tutor who drives in from the Model Town or Azadpur side should time the trip around it, or come by metro.
  • Parking on inner streets. Space is short on internal lanes. If your building has a spot for a visitor's scooter, say so; otherwise suggest the metro.
  • Evening noise from cafes. Some streets near Hudson Lane are loud in the evening. Pick the room furthest from the street side, or move the lesson earlier.
  • Older buildings. Reviewers note that some buildings need upkeep. A well-lit stair and a working bell help a new tutor more than any map pin.
  • What people like. Good metro and bus links, well-lit streets with police patrols and CCTV, steady power and water, and shops, clinics and pharmacies within walking distance. All of these make a weekday home lesson easy to keep.

Two NXTutors defaults handle the rest: you see each tutor's fee before the demo, and a change of tutor later is free.

How a tutor gets to GTB Nagar

The Yellow Line station in the middle

The GTB Nagar station opened on 4 February 2009 and is the last underground station at the northern end of the Yellow Line. Its full name is Guru Tegh Bahadur Nagar; most people, and most tutors, still say GTB Nagar. The station has five gates, and the area names around them include Outram Lines, Hudson Lane, Kingsway Camp Chowk, Batra Cinema and New Police Lines. Third-party listings disagree on which gate is which, so ask the tutor to check the signage inside the station and tell them the landmark you are nearest to, not a gate number.

Who can reach you without changing trains

The Yellow Line runs from Samaypur Badli in the north to Millennium City Centre Gurugram in the south. Model Town is the next station north and Vishwavidyalaya the next south. A tutor living anywhere along that line, from the northern colonies down through central Delhi, can reach you on one train. Tutors on the Pink Line can change at Azadpur, and those on the Red or Violet Line at Kashmere Gate.

By road

NH 44, the old Grand Trunk Karnal Road, carries traffic between North and Central Delhi along the area's edge. Bhama Shah Marg, Lok Marg, Kingsway Camp Road and Banda Bahadur Road are the names a tutor is likely to see on a map. DTC buses stop at New Police Lines and near the TB hospital, and shared autos work the main roads.

The last stretch

Because the station is so central, most homes in GTB Nagar are a walk or a short e-rickshaw ride from it. We do not publish travel minutes, since they swing so much with the hour. Ask each shortlisted tutor where they will start from and which line they will use, and agree a slot that keeps them out of the station crowd.

Doors, stairs and safety in GTB Nagar

Very few homes in GTB Nagar sit behind a society gate with a register. The tutor arrives at your building door. That is quick, but in a building with several households it is easy to ring the wrong bell or climb the wrong stair on the first visit.

Before the demo, send the pocket name, house number, floor and bell, and one landmark: Kingsway Camp Chowk, Batra Cinema, a named lane off Hudson Lane, or the New Police Lines bus stop. If the family uses a different entrance from other residents of the building, say which one. Many parents simply meet a new tutor downstairs the first time.

Inside the home, choose a room on your own floor with a table, good light and a door that closes, and keep an adult in the house while a younger child is being taught. In a building next to a busy street, the back room is usually the quieter choice.

If you would prefer a woman tutor, say so when you send the request and we shortlist one where one is available for your subject and slot; see female home tutors in Delhi. Tutors who join NXTutors go through an ID check, in which our team reviews a government photo ID after a one-time code; here is how the ID check works. It is not a police or background check, so use the free demo to judge the person as well as the lesson.

Boards GTB Nagar families ask about

Most requests from GTB Nagar are for CBSE, followed by ICSE and ISC, with an occasional IB or IGCSE student. In a builder floor or older house the tutor works at your table rather than in a society study room, so keep that board's own books in one place: NCERT texts and the CBSE sample papers from cbseacademic.nic.in for CBSE, and the CISCE prescribed texts for ICSE and ISC.

With a university campus next door, it is tempting to treat a college student as the default tutor. That can work well for younger classes. For a board year, ask for a tutor who has taught that board's papers before, and check it in the demo. GTB Nagar parents comparing boards in full can read which board suits your child.

GTB Nagar, class by class

Nursery to Class 5

Young children need short, regular sessions in the same spot each time. In GTB Nagar that usually means an after-school slot before the evening crowd, in a room away from the street. Phonics, reading aloud, handwriting and number sense matter more than worksheets at this stage. A primary home tutor in Delhi can also show you what to practise in the ten minutes between lessons.

Classes 6 to 8

This is when the school notebook starts to fill quickly and gaps begin to show. One tutor covering Maths and Science is a sensible start; add English if written answers are short or unclear. Ask the tutor to look at the week's school work at the start of each lesson, so the plan follows the chapters actually being taught.

Classes 9 and 10

The board-year band is where a steady home tutor tends to make the most difference. Two or three lessons a week, each with one new idea and a short timed set of questions, is a common rhythm. A dedicated maths home tutor in Delhi is often the first booking, because algebra and geometry gaps show up across Science as well.

Classes 11 and 12

Senior students usually need a specialist per subject: Physics, Chemistry, Maths or Biology on the science side, or Accountancy, Economics and Business Studies on the commerce side. Because GTB Nagar is on the Yellow Line, a specialist who lives some distance away along the line can still come once or twice a week, with online sessions in between. If an engineering entrance is in view, see JEE home tutors in Delhi.

One note for this locality

Being next to a campus means university life is always on the street outside. For a school child, that is a reason to protect a fixed study hour at home, not to add more classes.

Exam season in GTB Nagar

School board exams fall in the early months of the year. Take dates only from the boards' own sites: cbse.gov.in, cisce.org, ibo.org and cambridgeinternational.org.

The university next door runs its own calendar of admissions, festivals and exams, and the lanes around the station and Hudson Lane get busier or quieter with it, not with your child's school. In the two months before boards, move revision lessons to the slots you have seen to be quietest on your street, and agree in advance which lessons switch to online if the evening is crowded.

Home tutor, online, or a class nearby: choosing in GTB Nagar

A home tutor keeps a school child indoors and settled while the street outside is busy, and lets you see the lesson. It is the steadiest choice for younger children and for the board years.

Online lessons suit late slots, specialist subjects and days when the station area is packed. They also let you keep a tutor you like who lives far along another line.

A group class is easy to find around GTB Nagar and the neighbouring areas, but many local centres serve older students and adults rather than school boards. Choose one only if it follows your child's board and your child works well in a group. Otherwise, a home tutor for the weakest subject, plus an online tutor for a specialist paper, usually does more.

Home tuition fees in GTB Nagar

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more.

Each tutor sets their own rate, and it is shown on the shortlist before the demo. What moves a fee in GTB Nagar: the class and board; whether one tutor teaches one subject or several; how many lessons a week and how long each is; whether entrance-test practice is added to school work; and the tutor's journey. A tutor who arrives by Yellow Line and walks has a simpler trip than one driving through Bhama Shah Marg traffic, and an online lesson removes travel altogether.

Quiet places near GTB Nagar for a break from study

There is little to list here, so this section is short. Phulwari Park and the smaller neighbourhood parks that residents mention are good for a short walk between a long lesson and homework. Coronation Park, about two kilometres north on Burari Road, is a fenced park run by the DDA with a guarded gate; it suits a weekend outing rather than a study session. For focused self-study, most older students here do better at a fixed desk at home.

About this Area

Senior classes bring new subjects, and a GTB Nagar student moving into Class 11 commerce may suddenly need help with accountancy or economics as well as maths. You can ask NXTutors for any combination of these. You will receive suggestions of two or three tutors for the subjects you name, and each one offers the opening class as a free demo.

The board matters more in these years. CISCE conducts the ICSE examination in Class 10 and the ISC in Class 12, while CBSE sets its own papers at both stages, so please mention which one your child is preparing for. A tutor who already knows that board can spend the term on understanding, not on catching up. The Delhi ICSE & ISC home tutors page is there if you want to browse further.

First come tutors who live in GTB Nagar or are willing to travel there. If none is listed yet, the cards move outwards to the wider Pitampura, Model Town & North Campus zone, then the remainder of the city, then home tutors living in Noida, Ghaziabad and similar NCR cities, and lastly online teaching, each card stating why it is shown. Yes, mention it in your request and NXTutors will shortlist a woman tutor for your GTB Nagar home when one is available for that subject and time. Every tutor who joins goes through an ID check, and you meet her at the free demo first.
Yes, the GTB Nagar station on the Yellow Line carries the full name Guru Tegh Bahadur Nagar, though most people still say GTB Nagar. Tell a tutor either name and they will reach the same underground station, the last one at the line's northern end.
For most school children in GTB Nagar a home tutor who follows the board syllabus does more than a group class, because many nearby centres serve older students. A group class makes sense only if it matches the school board and your child is self-driven.
Tutors who travel to GTB Nagar or teach online cover CBSE, ICSE and ISC, and some teach IB or IGCSE. Name the board in your request, and keep its books ready for the demo so the tutor can see where your child stands.
Yes, Kingsway Camp is the old name of GTB Nagar, so a home tuition request under either name is handled the same way. The old name survives on the main road and the chowk. Mention the pocket, such as Hudson Lines or Outram Lines, to help the tutor find you.
For a home in Outram Lines, GTB Nagar, send NXTutors the house number, floor and a landmark along with the class and subject. Outram Lines is one of the area names around the station, so a Yellow Line tutor usually has a short walk.
Yes, a maths tutor can teach your Class 9 or 10 child at home in GTB Nagar or online. Two or three lessons a week, each ending with a short timed set of questions, suit the board years, and you see each tutor's fee before the free demo.
In GTB Nagar the hour just after school, before the evening crowd near the station and Hudson Lane, is usually the calmest time for a lesson. Weekend late mornings also work well; if only a late slot fits, consider holding it online.
A tutor can drive to GTB Nagar, but residents mention scarce parking on inner streets and traffic on Bhama Shah Marg. If you have space for a visitor's vehicle, say so; otherwise a tutor who comes by Yellow Line and walks usually has the easier trip.
Usually not, because most GTB Nagar homes are builder floors and older houses without a society gate or visitor register. Instead, give the floor, the bell and the right stair, and meet the tutor downstairs on the first visit so the doorway question is settled for good.
Yes, tutors from Mukherjee Nagar, Model Town and nearby areas can teach in GTB Nagar, since the localities share roads and the Yellow Line. NXTutors shows tutors who travel to GTB Nagar first, then the rest of the zone, then online tutors.
It is worth asking. Mukherjee Nagar and GTB Nagar are both pages in the Pitampura, Model Town & North Campus zone, and a tutor listed for one of them may also list the other. Ask about the days they could come and how long they usually stay per session. If the timing will not work, choose another suggested tutor instead.
Ask how they would begin with your child, which chapters they would cover first, and how they set and check homework. It also helps to know how they share progress with parents, and whether they can adjust the days near exams. A tutor who answers these clearly may be easier to work with across a long school year.
The building and the floor, plus whether to ring a bell or call on arrival. If someone at your entrance asks visitors where they are going, mention the tutor's visit to them beforehand so the first class starts on time.
Not at all. Switching tutor later is free on NXTutors. You begin with two or three matched tutors, meet each in a free demo, and can change at any point if your child's needs shift, for example ahead of board exams.
