Home tuition in Model Town: what to know

Before the first class

  • Kamla Nagar's market and Netaji Subhash Place are crowded at the evening peak, so afternoon slots work better; for a Civil Lines bungalow, tell the gatekeeper in advance.

Home tuition in Model Town: what you need to know first

A tutor can come to your Model Town house or floor, or teach online, and NXTutors arranges the match. Say whether you are in Model Town I, II or III, along with the block, class, board and subject. Model Town belongs to the Pitampura, Model Town & North Campus zone of Delhi. It is a low-rise colony of large plots around Naini Lake, with a Yellow Line station inside it, and those two facts shape most of the advice below.

Model Town's plots, parts and lake

Model Town is a planned colony in North Delhi with a long history. Its site was among the places the 1912 town planning committee considered for New Delhi before the capital went to Raisina Hill. In the 1940s, local landowners teamed up with DLF to develop the estate, and it was built in the early 1950s as a privately developed neighbourhood. The original guidelines favoured low-rise homes on big plots, with single-storey buildings covering no more than a quarter of the plot.

Much has been rebuilt since, but the scale is still visible. Square Yards' figures for Model Town Phase 1 show builder floors as the largest share of homes for sale, followed by independent houses and villas, with apartments a small part. Larger configurations, four and five bedrooms or more, dominate the listings. NoBroker describes the area's blocks as having internal gates with security, and wide, quiet inner streets.

The three parts

Model Town is divided into Model Town I, II and III. Naini Lake sits in the middle of Model Town I, with boating and a walking path that Delhi Tourism maintains. Model Town metro station is in Block B of Model Town Phase I. Chhatrasal Stadium, which hosted football matches when Delhi held the Asian Games in the 1980s, stands opposite Model Town III.

Around the colony

Wikipedia lists Azadpur, Derawal Nagar, Mahendru Enclave, Kingsway Camp, Kamla Nagar, Mukherjee Nagar, Gujranwala Town and the North Campus of the University of Delhi among its neighbours. Gurdwara Nanak Piao stands on the Grand Trunk Road nearby, and Coronation Park, where the foundation of New Delhi was laid in December 1911, is close as well. The old Alpana Cinema near the Model Town I crossing has closed, though people still use it as a landmark.

For a home tutor, big floors usually mean a spare room that can serve as a study, which makes lessons quieter than in a crowded flat. The flip side is that many homes look alike from the lane, so a gate colour or a house name on the map pin helps.

Which tutor fits your child?

What Model Town parents weigh up

Reviews of Model Town on property portals are mostly warm, with a few recurring complaints. Here is what each one means for tuition.

  • Metro inside the colony. Residents like having the Yellow Line station in Model Town Phase I and quick links to GT Karnal Road and central Delhi. That widens the circle of tutors who can reach you without a car.
  • Quiet inner lanes and green parks. Reviewers describe the inner streets as calm, away from traffic noise. A lesson in a room facing the lane is rarely disturbed, which suits a child who needs focus.
  • Junction traffic at peak hour. The pinch points named are near GTB Nagar, the lake signal and the Azadpur junction. A tutor who drives across these will be more punctual outside the evening peak.
  • Parking for visitors. Reviews say parking is short in older blocks and near the market, and some blocks restrict parking for outsiders. Tell the tutor in advance where they can leave a two-wheeler, or suggest the metro.
  • Weekend crowds. Reviewers mention weekend crowds and honking around commercial stretches. A weekend morning lesson usually beats a weekend evening one.
  • Safety. Reviewers mention night patrolling and a sense of security. Gated blocks help, but the tutor should know which gate is open at lesson time.

Beyond that, Model Town parents ask the usual questions: will the slot stay fixed, does the tutor know the board, and when does a subject move online. The rest of this guide covers them.

Getting a tutor to Model Town by metro, road or both

Model Town is easier to reach without a car than most of this zone, because the Yellow Line runs straight through it.

Model Town station

Model Town station opened on 4 February 2009 and is elevated. Its address is Mahatma Gandhi Road, Block B, Model Town Phase I. The stop before it, coming from the north, is Azadpur, where the Pink Line meets the Yellow Line, and the next stop south is GTB Nagar, followed by Vishwavidyalaya, Vidhan Sabha and Civil Lines. That makes it simple for a tutor living near North Campus to ride one or two stops, and for a tutor on the Pink Line to change once at Azadpur.

Which part, which approach

Homes in Model Town I near the station and the lake are usually a short walk. For Model Town II or III, a tutor may need an e-rickshaw from the station. NoBroker lists Majlis Park, on the Pink and Magenta Lines, as further off, and the Model Town II bus stop is another option on the bus network.

By road

The Ring Road runs along Model Town, with the Outer Ring Road and the Grand Trunk Road close by. Princess Road and Bhama Shah Marg appear in local listings. Reviewers name the junctions near GTB Nagar, the lake signal and Azadpur as the slow points at peak hour, so a tutor driving in from the Civil Lines side may meet the first, and one from the Azadpur side the last.

We do not give travel minutes for Model Town, because they change too much with the hour. Ask each tutor which station or road they will use and when they would set off.

Block gates, parking and safety in Model Town

Most Model Town homes are builder floors or houses, so the tutor rings the bell at your own door. What can trip up a first visit is the block gate and parking.

  • Say whether you are in Model Town I, II or III, then the block and house number, and drop a map pin.
  • If your block has a gate with a guard, give the tutor's name ahead of time and check which gate stays open in the evening.
  • Some blocks limit outside vehicles. Tell a tutor on a two-wheeler where they can park, or suggest the metro from Model Town station.
  • In a builder floor, say which floor and whether the stairs are shared with other flats.

Keep an adult at home for every lesson. With larger homes it can be tempting to place the study room far from the family area, but for younger children a room near a parent, with the door open, is the safer choice.

Families who want a woman tutor can ask for one in the request, and NXTutors will look for a female home tutor for Delhi families who reaches Model Town or teaches online. Tutors who join confirm a phone or email by one-time code and upload a government photo ID that our team reviews. That review establishes identity only, and nobody should mistake it for police vetting. Details are on how we check tutor IDs, and the demo is where you judge the teaching.

Boards Model Town families ask about

Most Delhi students follow CBSE, and Model Town is no exception, though some families here are on ICSE and ISC, and a few on IB or Cambridge IGCSE. A CBSE tutor should work from NCERT books and CBSE's sample papers, while an ICSE or ISC tutor needs the CISCE prescribed texts for English and the second language.

A spare room in a large floor makes it practical to keep a board's past papers and a timed-practice routine in one place, which matters most for papers with long written answers. If your child is on IB or IGCSE, give the tutor the school's subject guide or syllabus code. For the side-by-side comparison of all four, read our CBSE, ICSE, IB and IGCSE board guide.

Lessons in a Model Town home, by class

Nursery to Class 5

Young children cope well with short sessions: three or four a week of 45 minutes to an hour. In a large floor, choose a room that is quiet but close to a parent. Reading aloud, phonics and number work go well in the early evening, before a walk by Naini Lake or time in the park.

Classes 6 to 8

Middle school is when Maths and Science start to build on each other. One tutor for both is a common start, with English writing added if school feedback asks for it. A weekly look at the school notebook and the last test tells the tutor where to focus. A science tutor at home in Delhi is the request many families make at this stage.

Classes 9 and 10

From Class 9, lessons should include timed questions and revision of old chapters, not only new teaching. About 90 minutes, two or three times a week, is a workable pattern.

Classes 11 and 12

Senior students usually need a subject specialist, so families take separate tutors for Physics, Chemistry, Maths or Commerce subjects. Model Town's closeness to North Campus by the Yellow Line widens the choice of subject tutors who can travel in. For entrance preparation, some families keep the home tutor for school work and add an online teacher; our Class 12 home tutors in Delhi page explains the options.

Exam season in Model Town

School board exams in Delhi come early in the calendar year for most students, so plan the switch from new chapters to revision with the tutor well ahead. CBSE posts its datesheets on cbse.gov.in and CISCE its ICSE and ISC timetables on cisce.org. IB Diploma exams fall in May and November, and Cambridge IGCSE runs March, June and November series. Rely on these official sites for dates.

Home, online or centre: choosing from Model Town

Home tuition suits Model Town well. Larger homes give a quiet room, the Yellow Line brings tutors from across North Delhi, and you can see each lesson for yourself. The weak points are visitor parking in older blocks and junction traffic for tutors who drive.

Online lessons get round both. They make sense for weekend evenings when local roads are crowded, for exam weeks, and for senior IB, IGCSE or entrance papers where the right specialist lives elsewhere in the city.

A coaching centre means your child travels, though the station in Model Town Phase I makes that easier than in most colonies. Many families mix the two: a home tutor for the school subjects, and one centre or online class where a specialist is needed.

Home tuition fees in Model Town

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Each Model Town tutor quotes their own fee, and it is shown to you before the demo.

What moves a fee is the class, the board, the subject, how long each lesson runs and how many you book a week. Distance plays a part as well: a tutor from GTB Nagar or Kamla Nagar has a short trip, while one driving through the Azadpur junction at peak hour may prefer longer, less frequent lessons.

Work out the monthly total before you agree, and settle how holidays, cancelled classes and extra exam-time lessons are counted.

Quiet places to study near Model Town

We could not find a Delhi Public Library branch listed in Model Town. Naini Lake's walking path and Coronation Park are better for a break than for study. For most students, a quiet room at home, which larger Model Town floors often have, remains the main place to work.

Areas around Model Town

  • GTB Nagar: one Yellow Line stop south, at the edge of North Campus.
  • Kamla Nagar: a short drive away, with the market that Model Town residents use.
  • Mukherjee Nagar: listed by Wikipedia as a neighbour, on the North Campus side.
  • Civil Lines: four Yellow Line stops south, with its older bungalows.
  • Adarsh Nagar: two stops north on the same line, past Azadpur.
  • Ashok Vihar: to the west, with Model Town Phase 2 listed among its neighbours.

For how these fit together, see the zone guide.

About this Area

With two children in different classes, you may wonder whether a single tutor in Model Town can look after both. That can work, particularly in the primary years, and you can ask for it in one request. Give us each child's class, board and subjects, and NXTutors will find two or three tutors able to manage that combination.

On the Model Town page, tutors who live here or travel here are shown first. When none has added Model Town yet, the list widens to other pages of the Pitampura, Model Town & North Campus zone, then to the rest of Delhi, then to home tutors from NCR cities such as Faridabad, and finally to online tutors. You can see from each card why it is on the list.

A few practical points help a weekly routine settle. Agree the days and a regular start time with the tutor, tell them which school books are in use, and set aside a calm corner with a table and good light. If your building keeps a visitor register, add the tutor's name once so that later visits run smoothly. Remember that the opening lesson is free.

FAQs

For a home tutor in Model Town, tell NXTutors your part (I, II or III), block, class, board and subject. We then send two or three matched tutors, with every fee listed before you meet anyone. Your first class with each is a free demo, and moving to someone else later carries no charge.
Yes, Model Town metro station is in Block B of Model Town Phase I, the same part of the colony as Naini Lake. Homes around the lake are usually a short walk away. The station is on the Yellow Line and opened in February 2009. For Model Town II or III, a tutor may take an e-rickshaw.
Home tutors in Model Town set their own fees, and NXTutors shows each fee before the free demo. Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Peak-hour driving can affect lesson length.
Yes, a Model Town family can ask for a woman home tutor by mentioning it with the class, board and subject. We look for women tutors who reach Model Town or teach online, and the choice depends on subject and timing. Tutors who join complete an ID check; it is not a police or background check.
For most school subjects, home tuition suits a Model Town student, since larger homes give a quiet room and you can follow progress. Coaching moves the travel to your child, though the Yellow Line station in Phase I helps. Many families pair a home tutor with one online or centre class.
Yes, a tutor from North Campus can take the Yellow Line from Vishwavidyalaya or GTB Nagar and reach Model Town station in one or two stops. From the station, homes in Model Town I are usually a walk, while Model Town II and III may need an e-rickshaw for the last stretch.
Parking for a visiting tutor in Model Town depends on your block, since reviews say older blocks and the market are short of space and some blocks limit outside vehicles. Tell the tutor in advance where a two-wheeler can stand, or suggest the metro from Model Town station.
Yes, NXTutors can match ICSE and ISC tutors who travel to Model Town or teach online, alongside CBSE tutors for the larger group. For CISCE boards, hand the tutor the prescribed texts for English and the second language at the first class, because those decide much of the reading work.
Yes, NXTutors can match a Class 12 physics tutor who travels to Model Town or teaches online, chosen for your board. Model Town's Yellow Line link to North Campus widens the choice of subject tutors who can come in. You meet each matched tutor at a free demo first.
Always tell the tutor whether you live in Model Town I, II or III, plus the block and house number, because the three parts are reached differently. Model Town I holds the metro station and Naini Lake, while Model Town III sits opposite Chhatrasal Stadium. A map pin helps on the first visit.
In Model Town, weekday lessons are easiest before the evening peak and weekend lessons in the morning. Reviews name slow junctions near GTB Nagar, the lake signal and Azadpur at rush hour, and crowds around commercial stretches at weekends, so a fixed slot outside those times is easier to keep.
Some Model Town blocks have internal gates with security, so check which gate stays open at lesson time and give the tutor's name ahead. Most homes are builder floors or houses, so once inside the block the tutor comes straight to your door. Say which floor and whether the stairs are shared.
Yes, a Model Town child can study fully online or mix online with home lessons. Online classes help during exam weeks, on crowded weekend evenings, and for senior IB, IGCSE or entrance papers where the right specialist lives elsewhere. You still get two or three matched tutors and a free demo.
It can work, especially when both are in the primary or middle years. Ask whether the tutor can take two siblings one after the other on the same visit. Tell us each child's class and subjects when you ask, and we will look for tutors comfortable at both levels. If the children need very different subjects, two separate tutors may suit you better.
They might. Pitampura, Prashant Vihar and Model Town are all pages in the same zone, so a tutor listed for one may also list the others. Ask them which days they could come to Model Town and whether that would hold through exam season. You will see their fee before the free demo, so you can compare calmly.
Possibly, if your block closes its gate at night. Tutors normally come straight to the door, but a late-evening class may need a word with whoever is on the gate. Share your house number and the entrance to use when you book.
One free demo with each of your two or three matched tutors. NXTutors shows every fee before those demos, so you can compare teaching style and cost side by side before you decide who should teach your child.
