Home Tuition Fees in Delhi (2026): Budget by the Goal
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. That band holds across Delhi, whether the class happens in a builder floor in South Delhi, a society flat in Dwarka, a DDA pocket in Rohini or a plotted colony in East Delhi. Each tutor sets their own fee, so the figure that matters most is the one on your own shortlist.
This guide starts with what the tuition is for, not a monthly number. It prices five common goals in total hours, shows how to turn a goal into a plan with an end point, looks at how the metro line near your home affects the trip, lays out a way to compare the two or three quotes you receive, and shows where the free demo and free switching fit into the budget.
Why budget by the goal rather than the month?
A monthly figure hides the question most parents need answered first: how long will this go on? Help with one weak chapter is short. Support through a board year runs from the April start of the session to the exams. When you price the goal as a whole, weekly hours times the number of weeks gives the total hours, and the total hours at both ends of the band give the full commitment before the first paid class.
The table prices five general goals. They are planning examples, not quotes, and the number of weeks is a rough figure you should adjust to your own calendar.
| Goal | Hours a week | Weeks | Total hours | Total at ₹800 an hour | Total at ₹2,500 an hour |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Close a gap in one subject before a term exam | 3 | 8 | 24 | ₹19,200 | ₹60,000 |
| Settle in after a change of board, such as CBSE to ICSE or IGCSE | 3 | 12 | 36 | ₹28,800 | ₹90,000 |
| Keep up in one subject through the school year | 2 | 40 | 80 | ₹64,000 | ₹2,00,000 |
| Class 10 board year: maths and science | 4 | 40 | 160 | ₹1,28,000 | ₹4,00,000 |
| Class 12 science: physics, chemistry and maths | 6 | 40 | 240 | ₹1,92,000 | ₹6,00,000 |
For a younger child, the first three goals usually sit nearer the left-hand column. The Class 12 row sits toward the upper end, so plan nearer the right-hand figure, and remember that a specialist for JEE Advanced or IB HL can charge more than ₹2,500 an hour. The NXTutors pricing guide explains the factors class by class.
How do we turn a goal into a plan we can afford?
- Write the goal in one line. "Class 9 maths: catch up on algebra before the half-yearly exam" is a goal. "Extra help" is not.
- Set an end point. Use a date, such as the half-yearly or the pre-boards, or a result you can check, such as the next unit test.
- Price the total hours at both ends of the band. If the upper figure is out of reach, cut the weekly hours or shorten the goal before you start, not halfway through.
- Decide in advance what happens at the end point. Stop, drop to one class a week, or carry on with a new goal.
- Review at the halfway mark. If the gap is closing faster than planned, reduce the hours. If it is not, talk to the tutor about the plan before adding more hours.
When is a quote toward the upper end worth it?
The higher part of the band usually earns its place when:
- the student is in Class 11 or 12 and needs a separate tutor for each senior science subject;
- the programme has its own assessment style, as IB and IGCSE do, and the tutor needs to know it well;
- the goal is JEE, NEET or IB HL, where specialist depth matters more than the hourly rate;
- the student has changed board mid-way and needs a structured catch-up;
- earlier tutors have not moved the results, and experience with your exact board and class is the missing piece.
The lower part of the band usually covers junior classes, homework support and steady practice in a subject the child already follows, where regular attendance matters more than specialist depth.
How does your part of Delhi shape the plan?
Location rarely sets a fee on its own; it decides how many tutors can reach you easily and how reliably a class starts on time. In Delhi the metro does much of that work, and a home within reach of a station can draw tutors from anywhere along the line, which means more quotes to compare.
| Part of Delhi | Metro lines tutors use | Typical homes | Zone guide |
|---|---|---|---|
| South Delhi | Yellow, Violet, Magenta and Pink | Builder floors on plotted blocks, DDA and cooperative flats | South Delhi guide |
| Dwarka and West Delhi | Blue, Magenta, Green and Pink, plus the Airport Express at Dwarka Sector 21 | Cooperative group housing societies in Dwarka; houses, builder floors and DDA flats further east | Dwarka and West Delhi guide |
| Rohini and North Delhi | Red, Yellow and Pink, and the Magenta Line stretch from Deepali Chowk to Majlis Park that opened on 8 March 2026 | DDA flats, cooperative group housing societies and builder floors | Rohini and North Delhi guide |
| East Delhi | Blue, Pink and Red, with the Anand Vihar Namo Bharat station open since 5 January 2025 | DDA pockets, group housing societies in Patparganj and IP Extension, builder floors | East Delhi guide |
The Pink Line became a complete ring on 8 March 2026, and it has stations in all four parts of the city, from Lajpat Nagar and South Extension to Rajouri Garden, Netaji Subhash Place, Karkarduma and IP Extension. For a family, three practical points follow:
- Near a station: tutors who travel by metro can reach you, so the shortlist can draw from a wider area.
- A last leg by e-rickshaw or auto: fix one weekly slot and keep it, so the tutor can plan the trip the same way each week.
- Main roads at office hours: set the class soon after school or after the evening rush on the Ring Road, the Outer Ring Road or the main road nearest you, so the class starts on time.
How should we compare the quotes on our shortlist?
NXTutors shows each shortlisted tutor's fee before the demo, so you can compare before you commit. The table uses illustrative figures inside the NXTutors band for one goal, twelve weeks of Class 11 physics, to show why the lowest rate is not always the lowest total.
| Line on the sheet | Quote A | Quote B | Quote C |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fee per hour | ₹1,000 | ₹1,500 | ₹1,200 |
| Format | At home | At home | Online |
| Classes a week and length | Three of one hour | Two of an hour and a half | Two of one hour |
| Hours a week | 3 | 3 | 2 |
| Total for twelve weeks | ₹36,000 | ₹54,000 | ₹28,800 |
| What the parent checks | Can the tutor's trip fit three visits a week? | Are longer classes right for this student? | Are two hours enough, and does the student work well on screen? |
Quote A has the lowest rate, yet Quote C has the lowest total, because it plans fewer hours; that only helps if two hours a week can reach the goal. Quote B costs most, and may still be right if the student needs longer, hands-on classes. Add three more lines to your own sheet: what happens when either side cancels, whether extra hours before exams are at the same rate, and whether payment is monthly in advance or after the classes are held.
Where do the free demo and free switching fit in?
- Before the demo: we shortlist two or three matched tutors and you see each fee, so the comparison sheet is filled in before anyone visits.
- At the demo: the first class is a free demo, so you judge the teaching before paying for any of the goal's hours. Our demo class checklist for parents lists what to watch.
- At the halfway review: switching tutor later is free, so if a goal is off track you can change the tutor without starting the search again.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a home tutor cost in Delhi?
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Each tutor sets their own fee, and you see it before the free demo class.
How do we work out the total cost of a tuition goal?
Multiply the weekly hours by the number of weeks to get the total hours, then price those hours at ₹800 and at ₹2,500. Three hours a week for eight weeks is twenty-four hours: ₹19,200 at the lower end of the band and ₹60,000 at the upper end.
Is home tuition dearer in South Delhi than in East or West Delhi?
The band is the same across Delhi. Class, board, subject and the tutor's experience set most of a fee, and each tutor sets their own. Location mainly decides how many tutors can reach you easily, which changes how many quotes you can compare rather than the band itself.
Does living near a metro station lower the fee?
Not directly. A home near a station can be reached by tutors who travel by metro from further along the line, so your shortlist can draw from a wider area and you may have more quotes to compare. A fixed weekly slot, set away from the office rush, helps any class start on time.
Can mixing home and online classes stretch a Delhi budget?
Often, yes. Keep a home tutor for the subject that needs the most hands-on help and take a second subject, or a specialist board, online. That cuts the number of trips each week and widens the choice of tutors. Switching tutor later is free on NXTutors if the mix does not suit.
