Home Tuition in East Delhi: A Colony-by-Colony Guide
In East Delhi a home tutor's visit starts in one of two ways. In Mayur Vihar, Patparganj and IP Extension, many families live in DDA pockets or cooperative group housing societies, so the first visit usually means a gate entry and a call to the flat. In Laxmi Nagar, Preet Vihar, Krishna Nagar and Shahdara, most homes are builder floors and houses, so the tutor comes straight to the door. Either way, the Blue, Pink and Red Lines put a station within reach of most colonies, and a tutor who comes by metro and finishes by e-rickshaw keeps clear of the office rush on the main roads.
This guide covers two zones: Mayur Vihar, Patparganj and IP Extension; and Laxmi Nagar, Preet Vihar and Shahdara. It shows which station serves which colony, the gate routine and when to time a class.
How do the two zones fit together?
East Delhi has some of the oldest and some of the newest links in the network. Shahdara, Welcome, Seelampur and Shastri Park stations opened on 25 December 2002 with the Tis Hazari – Shahdara section, the first section of the Delhi Metro. The Anand Vihar Namo Bharat (RRTS) station opened on 5 January 2025 and is the only underground station on the Delhi–Meerut corridor, and the Pink Line became a complete ring on 8 March 2026, with the Majlis Park – Maujpur stretch that includes Yamuna Vihar station.

Mayur Vihar, Patparganj and IP Extension
Mayur Vihar-I, Mayur Vihar Extension and New Ashok Nagar stations opened with the Blue Line's Yamuna Bank – Noida City Centre section. The Pink Line gap between Mayur Vihar Pocket-1 and Trilokpuri – Sanjay Lake was bridged on 6 August 2021, making the line a single corridor. By road, the DND Flyway opened on 24 January 2001, linking Maharani Bagh and Nizamuddin with Noida and Mayur Vihar, and Phase I of the Delhi–Meerut Expressway along NH-9 was inaugurated on 27 May 2018.
The Mayur Vihar phases
- Mayur Vihar Phase 1: DDA flats in numbered pockets beside cooperative societies with their own gates. Mayur Vihar-I is a Blue and Pink interchange, so most homes have a station within easy reach. DDA pockets let a tutor walk to the flat; society blocks keep a guard register.
- Mayur Vihar Phase 2: set up in 1984 with DDA flats in pockets A to F, next to East Vinod Nagar – Mayur Vihar-II station. Share the pocket and flat number, and start classes before the evening rush on the expressway service lanes.
- Mayur Vihar Phase 3: made up of DDA LIG, MIG, SFS and Janta flats, with no station of its own. Tutors take the Blue Line to Mayur Vihar Extension or New Ashok Nagar and finish by auto or e-rickshaw, so allow a little buffer.
Patparganj, IP Extension and Vasundhara Enclave
- Patparganj and IP Extension: in Patparganj, 175 acres of land were allocated to various group housing societies, and IP Extension is its society quarter. Almost every complex has a staffed gate, so register a regular tutor with security. IP Extension station on the Pink Line serves the societies directly.
- Vasundhara Enclave: about forty-four group housing societies, adjoining Dallupura, Mayur Vihar, New Kondli and New Ashok Nagar. New Ashok Nagar on the Blue Line is the nearest station. Each society runs its own gate, so share the tutor's name beforehand.
The builder-floor colonies
Pandav Nagar, Mandawali and Shakarpur are mostly builder floors and houses in closely built lanes, so the tutor goes straight to the family's floor, without a society gate. Akshardham on the Blue Line suits Pandav Nagar, Mandawali – West Vinod Nagar on the Pink Line suits Mandawali, and Laxmi Nagar is closest to Shakarpur. An afternoon slot before the evening peak on the main roads is the easiest to keep.
Laxmi Nagar, Preet Vihar and Shahdara
Karkarduma is an interchange of the Blue Line and the Pink Line, and its Pink Line platform is the second highest in the Delhi Metro network. Shahdara district was formed in September 2012, with Shahdara, Vivek Vihar and Seemapuri subdivisions.
Along the Blue Line branch
- Laxmi Nagar and Nirman Vihar: builder floors in lanes off Vikas Marg, each with its own station. Laxmi Nagar is known for its chartered accountancy, cost accounting and company secretary coaching centres, and its lanes stay busy, so tutors mostly come by metro and walk.
- Preet Vihar: a plotted colony of lettered blocks, with Preet Vihar station on Vikas Marg. Some blocks have RWA gates, so share the tutor's name before the first day. Late-afternoon slots usually work better than evening ones.
- Karkardooma, Anand Vihar and Surajmal Vihar: Karkardooma mixes gated societies with houses; Surajmal Vihar and Anand Vihar are mostly builder floors and houses. Anand Vihar sits beside a major transport hub, so a tutor arriving by road should allow a buffer at peak hours.
Krishna Nagar, Geeta Colony and the Shahdara side
- Krishna Nagar and Geeta Colony: houses and builder floors, with Krishna Nagar station on the Pink Line and several Blue, Pink and Red Line stations around Geeta Colony. The markets are crowded in the evening, so earlier afternoon or weekend-morning classes are easier.
- Shahdara and Vivek Vihar: Shahdara station dates from the first metro section; Vivek Vihar is a low-rise plotted colony in two phases, with blocks A to D, reached from Dilshad Garden or Jhilmil.
- Dilshad Garden: developed by the DDA in the late 1970s and early 1980s, mostly as DDA flats in blocks and pockets. Dilshad Garden and Jhilmil stations serve it; some pockets have a guard, so share the block and flat number.
- Yamuna Vihar: low-rise builder floors in blocks B-1 to B-5 and C-1 to C-12, now with its own Pink Line station since the ring was completed. GT Road and Wazirabad Road are heavy at peak hours, so earlier slots help.
When should a weekday class start?
- Soon after school. Vikas Marg, NH-9, GT Road and the approaches to Anand Vihar are busiest at office hours, so an early slot is the most likely to start on time.
- After the rush, near a station. Close to Mayur Vihar-I, Karkarduma or Laxmi Nagar, a tutor who comes by metro can manage a later evening slot.
- Weekend mornings for longer sessions, away from the evening market crowds.

Frequently asked questions
Which metro station is nearest to Mayur Vihar?
It depends on the phase. Phase 1 has Mayur Vihar-I, a Blue and Pink interchange; Phase 2 sits beside East Vinod Nagar – Mayur Vihar-II on the Pink Line; and Phase 3 has no station of its own, so tutors use Mayur Vihar Extension or New Ashok Nagar and finish by auto.
Do tutors need a gate pass in Patparganj and IP Extension?
Usually, yes. Most homes here are in group housing societies with a staffed gate, where the guard logs visitors and calls the flat. Give security the tutor's name before the free demo class, and ask to register a regular tutor, so that later visits go through the gate without delay.
When is the easiest time for a home class in East Delhi?
A slot soon after school, before the office rush on Vikas Marg, NH-9 and GT Road, is the most reliable. Weekend mornings suit longer sessions. Near Mayur Vihar-I, Karkarduma or Laxmi Nagar, a tutor who comes by metro can also manage a later slot once the rush eases.
Does the Pink Line ring help families in East Delhi?
It widens the choice. Since 8 March 2026 the Pink Line has been a complete ring, with stations such as IP Extension, Karkarduma, Krishna Nagar and Yamuna Vihar, so tutors from other parts of Delhi on the same line can reach East Delhi colonies without changing trains.
How much does home tuition cost in East Delhi?
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Each tutor sets their own fee, which you see before the free demo.
