Home tuition in Dilshad Garden: what to know

Before the first class

  • Most homes are separate buildings, so the tutor goes straight to the floor; in the Preet Vihar, Vivek Vihar and Surajmal Vihar blocks with RWA gates, give the guard the name first.

What home tuition costs in Delhi

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.

Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

Home tutors in Dilshad Garden: the short answer

Yes. A tutor can teach your child at home in any Dilshad Garden block or pocket, from the DDA flats of Pocket A to the Janta Flats and Dilshad Colony, or online if that suits better. Tell NXTutors the class, board, subjects and your block, pocket and flat number, and we come back with two or three matched tutors who travel to Dilshad Garden or teach online. The fee for each is visible before you book, the first class is a free demo, and swapping tutor later costs nothing.

Dilshad Garden falls in our Laxmi Nagar, Preet Vihar and Shahdara zone of tuition in Delhi. Two Red Line stations sit on GT Road beside it, Jhilmil and Dilshad Garden, so tutors coming by metro walk or take an e-rickshaw into the pockets.

Dilshad Garden's DDA blocks and pockets

Dilshad Garden is a planned colony. The Delhi Development Authority laid it out in the late 1970s and early 1980s, and most of the homes are still DDA flats. The colony is organised into blocks lettered A to R and pockets lettered A to SG, and each block has its own market and its own parks. On the 2022 municipal ward map, the ward named Dilshad Garden shows Pockets A to F and O to R, Janta Flats in Pocket A, Dilshad Colony and a JJ colony, bounded by GT Road and Tahirpur Road, with Jhilmil, Nand Nagri, Sundar Nagri and Dilshad Colony as neighbouring wards.

Because the layout is so regular, two addresses a few hundred metres apart can look almost identical on the ground. A tutor needs the block or pocket letter, the flat number and the floor. Most blocks are walk-up flats, so the tutor climbs the stairs rather than waiting for a lift, and the stairwell usually has its own entrance.

Housing in the colony ranges from one-bedroom to three-bedroom flats, with two-bedroom flats making up a large share of those on sale, and some plots carry builder floors. Buyer guides note the age of the older DDA stock as the main caution, so ask the tutor to mind uneven stairs on the first visit.

Shopping comes from the block markets, among them the B-Block market, the Pocket F market and the DDA market at Chetak Complex, plus a weekly market every Tuesday. Larger landmarks include the Delhi State Cancer Institute and the University College of Medical Sciences near the colony's edge. For open space there is the Deer Park, a District Park, many pocket parks and the Poorvi Delhi Khel Parisar sports complex.

Which tutor fits your child?

What Dilshad Garden parents think about

Property-portal summaries for Dilshad Garden, on PropertyPistol and elsewhere, list a short set of strengths and drawbacks. Here is how each affects a tutor's week.

  • Metro on the doorstep. Two Red Line stations on GT Road make the colony reachable for tutors who do not drive.
  • Narrow internal roads and parking. Narrow roads inside the pockets and a parking shortage come up repeatedly. A tutor on a scooter will usually find a spot near the block; a car can mean a long walk.
  • Peak-hour traffic. Congestion at peak hours, mainly on GT Road, is listed among the drawbacks. If your tutor comes by road, avoid placing the lesson at office closing time.
  • Air quality. Pollution in some areas is mentioned. On bad-air winter days, an online lesson saves the journey.
  • Markets and parks in every block. Each block has its own market and parks, so a child can take a short break outdoors between study sessions without leaving the block.
  • Security. One summary describes the locality as well maintained with a good security set-up. Even so, share the tutor's details with any pocket guard in advance.

How tutors reach Dilshad Garden

Dilshad Garden station

Dilshad Garden station opened on 4 June 2008 and stands on GT Road. It was the end of the Red Line until 7 March 2019, when the line was extended into Ghaziabad. The next station east, Shaheed Nagar, lies on the Delhi–Uttar Pradesh border, which helps tutors who live just across it.

Jhilmil station

Jhilmil, which opened alongside it in June 2008, is also on GT Road, beside the Jhilmil Industrial Area. A pedestrian overpass crosses GT Road from Jhilmil station into Dilshad Garden, so tutors heading for the western pockets often use it rather than the Dilshad Garden station.

Changing lines

Tutors from the Pink Line change at Welcome, four Red Line stops west, and those on the Blue Line can change at Kashmere Gate or ride the Pink Line round. Anand Vihar's bus terminal and railway station are about 4 km away, and Shahdara about 3 km.

Inside the colony

GT Road runs along one side, Tahirpur Road along another, and Gurudwara Road and Road No. 68 lead into the pockets, with an underpass under GT Road. Most tutors finish the trip on foot or by e-rickshaw. Vivek Vihar railway station, on the Indian Railways line, is also mapped nearby.

Pocket gates, stairwells and safety

Some pockets have a gate with a guard, others are open to the street. If yours has a guard, share the tutor's name and arrival time beforehand. Give the block or pocket letter, flat number, floor and the stairwell number if your block has several, plus a map pin; this saves a tutor walking round identical buildings.

Say where a scooter can stand without blocking a neighbour's car, as parking inside pockets is tight.

Keep lessons in a room an adult can see into, especially for younger children, and stay for part of the free demo. Tutors who join NXTutors confirm their phone or email with a one-time code and upload a government photo ID for our team to review; that is an ID check, not a police check. See how NXTutors reviews tutor IDs. For a woman tutor, read our page on women home tutors in Delhi and say so in your request.

Fitting lessons around GT Road and the block markets

Life in Dilshad Garden runs on a few fixed rhythms, and a tuition timetable works better when it follows them.

  • GT Road at peak hours. The colony's main edge is GT Road, which carries traffic towards the Uttar Pradesh border and is slowest at office times. A tutor coming by road from Shahdara or Ghaziabad will arrive more reliably before the evening peak than in the middle of it.
  • Tuesdays. The weekly market adds stalls and shoppers on Tuesdays. For a lesson on that day, ask the tutor to come by metro, or move that session online.
  • Block markets. Because every block has its own market, a parent can pick up supplies while the lesson runs, and an older child can walk to buy stationery without crossing GT Road.
  • Station choice. Jhilmil station's footbridge saves crossing GT Road at street level; tutors heading for the eastern pockets may prefer Dilshad Garden station. Tell the tutor which one you would use yourself.
  • Border tutors. Shaheed Nagar, the next station east of Dilshad Garden, is on the Delhi–Uttar Pradesh border, so a tutor living just across it can reach the colony in one or two stops.

Boards Dilshad Garden students study

CBSE is the board most Delhi students sit, so it is the one a tutor here will meet most often, with ICSE, ISC, IB or Cambridge less common. From 2026, CBSE runs two Class 10 board exams, the second optional for improvement, so a Class 10 student may want help planning for both. In a DDA flat, where rooms are compact, a fold-away study table and one shelf for board-year books keeps a home tutor's sessions orderly.

Dilshad Garden tuition by class

Nursery to Class 5

Young children manage about 45 minutes at a time. In a compact flat, a corner of the bedroom works better than the living room. Ask for a short weekly note on reading and number work, and use the block park for a break between homework and lessons.

Classes 6 to 8

Maths and Science need proper teaching now. A home maths tutor in Delhi can strengthen arithmetic, fractions and early algebra before Class 9.

Classes 9 and 10

Lessons of about 90 minutes two or three times a week leave time for teaching and practice. Class 9 is where gaps in algebra and geometry show up; our Class 9 home tutor page explains how tutors close them before the board year.

Classes 11 and 12

Most students need a specialist per subject. Because the Red Line runs past the colony, a specialist from elsewhere on the network can still visit, or teach online for some sessions.

Medical and engineering entrance

Students preparing for NEET often combine a coaching batch with a NEET home tutor for Biology, Chemistry and Physics doubts. Agree in the demo how the tutor will use the coaching material.

Exam season in Dilshad Garden

Take dates only from cbse.gov.in, cisce.org or nta.ac.in. In the last weeks, ask the tutor to move to timed papers. GT Road is slower at peak hours, so keep lesson times fixed and early, and switch to online on poor-air days rather than cancelling.

Home, online or a coaching centre

A home tutor saves your child the trip along GT Road and lets you listen in from the next room. With two stations beside the colony, many tutors can come without a car.

Online lessons suit specialist subjects, exam weeks and winter evenings with bad air. A mix of home and online sessions in the same week is common.

A centre suits a student who wants a fixed exam batch with peers, at the cost of travel time. Many families keep a home tutor for school subjects alongside a centre for entrance preparation.

Home tuition fees in Dilshad Garden

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more.

Tutors choose their own fee, and the shortlist shows each one before the demo. What pushes a fee up or down is chiefly the class and board, then the subject, the weekly number of lessons and how long they run. A tutor who lives just over the border or a station away may not need to price in travel; one crossing the city may. Making one weekly session online can also bring the monthly total down.

The demo is free, and moving to another tutor later is free too.

The Delhi Public Library lists a sub-branch in Vigyan Vihar and a zonal library with a self-study room in Shahdara; its Nand Nagri unit is listed as closed. At home, a fixed desk away from the main room usually matters more.

About this Area

Hello to parents in Dilshad Garden. Whether your child is preparing for a Class 10 board paper or has just begun the Class 11 biology syllabus with NEET in mind, NXTutors works the same way: you send a short request, and we reply with a shortlist of two or three tutors matched to the subject and the hours you have free.

Before writing to us, jot down a few details. Which board does the school follow? Which textbook is in use, and which chapters are finished? Are evenings or weekends easier? With these, a tutor can use the free demo to work on something real rather than spend it on introductions. If your child also needs English support, mention it in the same message.

On this page, a tutor whose home is in Dilshad Garden, or who lists it among the areas they visit, is shown at the head of the list. After those come tutors from other pages of the Laxmi Nagar, Preet Vihar & Shahdara zone, such as Vivek Vihar or Anand Vihar, and after them anyone else in Delhi, a home tutor living in Gurugram or Faridabad, and lastly people who teach over video. Real profiles always come before sample ones.

You could also combine the two: a home tutor for chemistry and physics, and an online teacher for biology. Try a free demo of each before deciding what suits your family.
Ask which classes and boards they have taught recently, how they plan the first month, and how they share progress with parents. Check the days they can reach Dilshad Garden and what happens if a lesson is missed. Their fee is already shown on the profile, so the conversation can stay on teaching.
Where a pocket has a gate with a guard, sharing the block and flat number in advance helps the tutor get in quickly. If yours has no gate, the same details still help the tutor find the right door on the first visit.
