Shahdara is an old settlement on the east bank. In the eighteenth century it held grain warehouses and wholesale grain markets that supplied the Paharganj grain market across the Yamuna, and the Anaj Mandi (grain market) name near Farsh Bazar still carries that history. In September 2012 a whole revenue district was formed with the name, with its headquarters at Nand Nagri and three subdivisions: Shahdara, Vivek Vihar and Seemapuri. So when a parent says "Shahdara", it helps to name the exact locality.
The municipal ward that carries the name, ward 215 on the 2022 map, covers the older core: Railway Road, Bholanath Nagar Road, Idgah Road and Pandav Road, the Farash Bazar police station, Teliwara, Shalimar Park and Maharam Nagar. The wards that border it are Welcome Colony, Rohtash Nagar, Azad Nagar, Krishna Nagar, Vishwas Nagar and Jhilmil. Property portals add Naveen Shahdara, Ram Nagar, Bholanath Nagar and Mansarovar Park as sub-areas.
Housing follows the age of each part. The old lanes are mostly independent houses and standalone buildings divided into floors, often close together. Mansarovar Park and a few other pockets have DDA flats and apartment buildings. A tutor visiting the older core usually walks the last stretch through narrow lanes; one visiting a DDA block finds a more regular layout.
Shahdara is also a market town. Teliwara is known for street food and Shahdara Mandi for daily trade, and a large wholesale garment market lies a short ride south. Parks include the Ram Lila Ground, Jheel Park, a DDA park at Mansarovar Park and Welcome Lake Park.
Resident reviews on NoBroker's Shahdara page raise a clear set of themes. Here is what they mean for tuition.
Shahdara station opened on 25 December 2002, the day the Delhi Metro's opening section began running. It is at street level, with two side platforms, and it connects to Delhi Shahdara Junction railway station about 100 metres away. The next station west is Welcome; the next east is Mansarovar Park.
Welcome joins the Red Line with the Pink Line. Since March 2026 the Pink Line has run as a full ring, so tutors from North, West and South Delhi can ride round to Welcome and change for a single stop to Shahdara, or walk from Welcome into the northern colonies.
Delhi Shahdara Junction opened in 1907 on the Shahdara–Saharanpur light railway and now sits on a branch of the Delhi–Howrah main line. A DTC bus terminal about 500 metres away is served by around two dozen routes. Few tutors commute by train, but the bus terminal helps those who live along GT Road.
GT Road and Loni Road are the main roads, and the Shahdara Flyover, which reviewers name as a congestion point, sits on the same corridor. Railway Road and Bholanath Nagar Road lead into the older core. Parking is short near markets, so a tutor on a scooter or arriving by e-rickshaw has the easier time.
In the older lanes, the tutor comes straight to your door, so the address must be precise. Give the locality, gali or street number, house number and floor, and a map pin. A landmark such as the Farash Bazar police station, the Anaj Mandi or the station exit helps on the first visit.
In DDA blocks such as Mansarovar Park, give the block and flat number, and say whether the stairwell has its own door. In an apartment building with a guard, share the tutor's name and arrival time in advance.
Keep the lesson in a room an adult can see into, and stay for part of the free demo. Every tutor who joins goes through an ID check: a one-time code to confirm contact details, then a government photo ID that our team reviews. It is not a police or background check. Read how tutor ID checks work for details. You can also ask for a woman tutor in your request.
Shahdara is busier than most residential parts of East Delhi because markets, a railway junction, a bus terminal and GT Road all meet here. That affects when a tutor can arrive on time.
CBSE is the board a Shahdara tutor meets most often, as across Delhi, with some ICSE and ISC students and a few on IB or Cambridge. In older homes, where space for a study corner can be tight, a home tutor often keeps the child's practice in one notebook per subject rather than loose sheets, so revision for board-style papers stays in order.
Our guide comparing CBSE, ICSE, IB and IGCSE sets out the differences in syllabus and assessment.
Short lessons several times a week keep young children engaged. In a lane house close to a market, choose a room away from the street and a time when the market is quieter. Ask the tutor to send a weekly note on reading and number work.
Maths, Science and English need proper teaching from here on. One tutor for Maths and Science is a common start. A notebook of corrected mistakes helps both tutor and parent see what keeps going wrong.
Plan lessons of about 90 minutes, two or three times a week, so the tutor can teach and set practice in one visit. Ask for a monthly plan that follows the school's test calendar.
Shahdara science students in these classes usually need a specialist for each subject. A physics tutor at home in Delhi works on derivations and numericals, while a home chemistry tutor covers organic reactions and physical chemistry problems. Our Class 12 home tuition page explains how the board year is usually planned. Commerce students often need Accountancy and Economics.
JEE and NEET students who attend a coaching batch often want a home tutor for doubts and timed problem sets. Agree in the demo how the tutor will work alongside the coaching material.
Board exams fall early in the year for most students; take dates only from the boards' own sites, and JEE Main and NEET dates from nta.ac.in. Winter air and GT Road traffic can both disrupt the last weeks, so agree an online fallback with the tutor before exam season begins.
A home tutor saves your child a trip through congested roads and lets you follow the lessons. With a metro and rail hub on the doorstep, many tutors can reach Shahdara without a car.
Online lessons suit specialist subjects, bad-air days, monsoon evenings and exam weeks. See online tuition for Delhi students.
A coaching centre suits a student who wants a fixed exam batch with peers, at the cost of travel time. Many Shahdara families combine a centre with a home tutor for school subjects.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more.
Each tutor sets their own fee, and NXTutors shows it before the demo. In Shahdara, as elsewhere, the class and board weigh most, followed by subject, weekly frequency and lesson length. A tutor coming a long way round the ring may include the journey; one living a few stops away may not. Swapping one home lesson a week for an online one can change the total.
No charge applies to the demo or to switching tutor later.
The Delhi Public Library's Shahdara zonal library is near the Anaj Mandi in Farsh Bazar. Its self-study room is listed as open from 9 am to 6 pm Monday to Saturday and from 10 am to 5 pm on Sunday, with membership and lending from 10 am to 5 pm on weekdays and Saturdays. It suits older students who need a quiet desk away from home.

If your child in Shahdara needs IB or IGCSE help, you may assume you must search far and wide. NXTutors makes it simpler. Tell us the programme, the subject and the year, and two or three tutors will be proposed, either visiting your home or teaching online, depending on who fits your child.
Shahdara gives the Laxmi Nagar, Preet Vihar & Shahdara zone part of its name, and the zone has twelve pages in total, including Yamuna Vihar, Dilshad Garden and Nirman Vihar. Anyone living in Shahdara or offering to travel to it comes first on this page. Then you will find tutors from those other pages, followed by tutors from anywhere else in Delhi, home tutors from Faridabad or Noida, and online teachers last.
A good habit before booking is to speak to the tutor for a few minutes. Ask about their recent students, how they would prepare for mock exams, how they set homework and how they will keep you informed. For an international syllabus, also ask whether they have taught that programme before. The first class is free, so your child can judge the teaching too. More choices are on our IB tutors and IGCSE tutors pages.
