Book a free demo classNXTutors arranges home and online tutors across this whole stretch of South Delhi: both parts of Greater Kailash, Defence Colony, the four parts of Lajpat Nagar, South Extension, East of Kailash and Pamposh Enclave. Send your colony, block and floor with the class, board and subject. You get two or three matched tutors, each with a fee you can read before deciding, then a free demo; a later change of tutor is free.
This zone guide on our Delhi tutors page explains how the zone fits together: which line serves which colony, where the market evenings bite, and what changes for a lesson between a rebuilt floor, a family house and a DDA flat.

Think of the zone as three bands running from north to south.
Lajpat Nagar I, II and III lie north of the Ring Road, with Lajpat Nagar IV on the south side, according to Wikipedia. Defence Colony sits beside them, boxed in by the Ring Road, Lala Lajpat Rai Marg, Bhishma Pitamah Marg and the Delhi Ring Railway. South Extension grew from Kotla Mubarakpur village land and is split into Parts I and II along the Ring Road; the 2022 ward map for Kotla Mubarakpur labels South Extension Part II blocks A, B, C, D, E, L, M, N, P and R. These are older plotted colonies where houses have been rebuilt floor by floor.
South of the Ring Road, Lala Lajpat Rai Marg runs down past Moolchand and Kailash Colony towards GK-1. All three Violet Line stations in this stretch, Lajpat Nagar, Moolchand and Kailash Colony, have addresses on that road, so the road and the line together form the zone's spine. GK-1's lettered blocks, from A to W on the ward map, lie on its western side, and East of Kailash, with its D, E and F blocks, Sant Nagar and Kailash Hill, lies to the east.
GK-2 was developed after GK-1, with easier access to the Outer Ring Road. Its E, M, S and W blocks share a municipal ward with Chittaranjan Park and GK Part III. Pamposh Enclave, a small residential colony with three playgrounds and two temples, sits near GK Enclave I, Hemkunt Colony and Chirag Enclave, close to the Greater Kailash Magenta Line station.
News reports and property-portal summaries about colonies in this zone repeat a few themes. We turn them into planning points.
Lajpat Nagar is the hub: an elevated Violet Line station opened in October 2010 and an underground Pink Line station opened in August 2018, on Lala Lajpat Rai Marg. On the Violet Line, Jangpura is to the north, and to the south come Moolchand, Kailash Colony and Nehru Place. On the Pink Line, the next stop west is South Extension, an underground station in E Block of South Extension II that serves both parts, with a pedestrian overbridge across the Ring Road. Further south, Greater Kailash on the Magenta Line, opened in May 2018, sits between Chirag Delhi and Nehru Enclave and serves GK-2, GK Enclave and Pamposh Enclave.
The Ring Road crosses the northern half of the zone, with the Moolchand flyover and a Defence Colony underpass beneath it, and the Andrews Ganj flyover linking Lajpat Nagar and Defence Colony to it. The Outer Ring Road crosses the southern half between GK-1 and GK-2. Lala Lajpat Rai Marg joins the two.
Because one metro line, the Violet, threads through Lajpat Nagar, Moolchand, Kailash Colony and Nehru Place, a tutor who already teaches a family in one of these colonies can often add a lesson in the next one on the same evening. A tutor based in Lajpat Nagar, for instance, can ride two or three stops to GK-1 or walk into Defence Colony. That is why we look first for tutors who live in or near your colony, then for those who already travel inside the zone, then for tutors elsewhere in Delhi, and then for online teachers.
The harder crossings are the two ring roads at rush hour. A tutor going from GK-2 to Defence Colony by car crosses both. Two-wheeler and metro tutors handle this better. When you compare two shortlisted tutors with similar teaching, the one with the simpler route is often the one who keeps the slot all year.
Three kinds of home need three kinds of briefing. On a rebuilt plot in GK, South Extension or Lajpat Nagar, the tutor needs the floor and the right bell. In a full house in Defence Colony or Pamposh Enclave, they may pass a house gate and staff first. In a DDA pocket or cooperative society in East of Kailash, the gate register matters most. In each case, send the colony, block, house or flat number, and floor, and tell whoever sits at the gate the tutor's name before the demo.
For any home, choose a room where an adult is close by, and keep the door open for young children. If the tutor drives, tell them where visitors may park; near the markets, that is worth settling before day one.
Families who would like a woman tutor should say so in the request; we try to shortlist women who teach the subject at your time, as described on our female tutors in Delhi page. Across this zone, tutors who join NXTutors confirm a phone or email with a one-time code and upload a government photo ID that our team reviews. This is an identity check, not a police or background check; see how tutor ID checks work. Judge the teaching at the free demo.
CBSE is the board most families here ask about, followed by ICSE and ISC, with a steady share asking about IB and Cambridge IGCSE. Children from these colonies go to schools all over South and Central Delhi, so neighbours are often on different boards. One recent change is worth knowing: from 2026, CBSE gives Class 10 students a second, optional board examination in the same year, details of which are on cbse.gov.in.
For the home tutor, what changes by housing type is space: a family house can hold a proper study shelf for board material, while a smaller floor or flat does better with one labelled folder. Either way, give the tutor the syllabus your school uses on day one. For a fuller comparison, read CBSE vs ICSE vs IB vs IGCSE.
Short, frequent lessons at the same time each day build habits for young children. In colonies near a busy market, an afternoon slot before the evening rush is easiest to keep. In quieter colonies such as Pamposh Enclave, early evening works too.
One tutor for Maths and Science is the usual request, with reading and writing checked weekly. Ask for a short note after each class. A tutor from the next colony along the Violet Line is often the simplest fit.
The board years need a term plan agreed at the demo: chapters before each school test, then past papers. Many families in this zone also add an English home tutor in Delhi for writing practice, because board English rewards structured answers.
Senior students usually have a separate tutor per subject. The Lajpat Nagar interchange and the Magenta Line make it easier to bring in specialists from across Delhi. See our Class 12 home tutors in Delhi page for subject choices.
For JEE and NEET, a home tutor supports school and any course the student follows, with doubt sessions, timed practice and mock reviews. Agree how progress will be tracked.
CBSE and CISCE papers are mostly written in February and March, so tutors' evenings fill from December. IB exams fall in May and November; Cambridge's India series run in March, June and November. Confirm dates on cbse.gov.in, cisce.org, ibo.org and cambridgeinternational.org. In this zone, the festive months also bring the heaviest market traffic, so plan any extra sessions with an online option ready.
A home tutor suits younger children, children who need confidence, and families who want to watch progress up close. Its cost here is the tutor's trip across a ring road or past a market at peak time.
Online lessons remove that trip and widen the pool of specialists, which helps for IB, IGCSE and less common subjects.
A coaching centre suits a self-driven senior student but moves the commute onto the family.
A common pattern in this zone is a home tutor for the core subject, with online help for one specialist need.
Every tutor sets their own fee, which you see on the shortlist ahead of the demo. Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more.
The things that move a fee are the class, board and subject, the tutor's experience, the number of lessons each week and the travel involved. Inside this zone, dense metro links mean many tutors can reach you without a long drive. Confirm whether the fee is per class or per month, and how missed classes are handled.
Wikipedia lists an education centre and library run by the Kashmir Education Culture & Science Society in Pamposh Enclave; check with them about access before planning a visit. In GK-2, a small park beside the M Block market was described in a 2022 feature as rarely crowded, good for a walk between study blocks. For lessons, home remains the usual place.
AI-first tutoring, with real teachers
You tell us the class, board, subject and where in GK, Defence Colony & Lajpat Nagar you live. Our AI does the slow part of the search and returns two or three tutors who fit, not a long list to scroll. You see each tutor's fee before the free demo, and switching tutor later is free.
Where AI stops and people start
Much of the old bungalow stock now stands rebuilt as separate floors, with a different household on each level and a bell for each. East of Kailash is the mixed one, with DDA pockets and cooperative flats between private floors. Block RWAs keep guards at colony entrances, so even a doorstep visit usually starts with a word at the gate.
Rail access here is dense. Lajpat Nagar is an interchange of the elevated Violet Line and the underground Pink Line; Moolchand and Kailash Colony are on the Violet Line; South Extension has a Pink Line station; and Greater Kailash sits on the Magenta Line, with Nehru Place and Kalkaji Mandir close to East of Kailash. A tutor coming by metro is usually a short walk or e-rickshaw from the door. Driving is the harder option: evening parking near the GK markets and Lajpat Nagar's Central Market fills up, and the Ring Road and Outer Ring Road are slow at peak hours. Morning and weekend slots are calmer.
When you ask NXTutors for a tutor here, those who live in your colony or the next one come first, then tutors who travel to GK, Defence Colony or Lajpat Nagar, then the rest of Delhi, and online teachers last. You see two or three matched tutors, each with a fee on the profile before the free demo. If your child needs a change later, switching tutor is free. Give the block, the floor and which entrance the guard sits at along with the request, so the demo does not begin with the tutor phoning from the wrong gate or ringing the wrong storey.

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.
| Classes a week | Classes a month | At ₹800 an hour | At ₹2,500 an hour |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2 | 8 | ₹6,400 a month | ₹20,000 a month |
| 3 | 12 | ₹9,600 a month | ₹30,000 a month |
In a coaching batch, one teacher's hour is shared by many students, so each family pays for a part of it. At home the whole hour is your child's: the pace, the questions and the homework check follow one student, and the tutor's travel to your home is part of the working day. A small group of two or three children from the same society usually costs less per child, with less individual attention.

Yes, families in Lajpat Nagar, South Extension and the rest of this zone can ask for a woman tutor in the request. We try to shortlist one who fits the subject and slot. Every tutor who joins has a government photo ID reviewed by our team, which is an identity check rather than a police check.
In this zone, the Violet Line serves Lajpat Nagar, Defence Colony, GK-1 and East of Kailash. The Pink Line serves Lajpat Nagar and South Extension, and the Magenta Line serves GK-2 and Pamposh Enclave through Greater Kailash station. Lajpat Nagar is the interchange.
For most students in this zone who need steady help in one or two subjects, home tuition is more practical than coaching, given the market traffic. Coaching suits self-driven seniors, and online lessons fill specialist gaps such as IB subjects. Try a free demo before deciding.
Some tutors who travel within this South Delhi zone teach IB and Cambridge IGCSE, and many more teach them online. Share the school's subject guide or syllabus code so we match tutors who know that exact course, not only the board name.
Yes, home tuition in Lajpat Nagar 4, south of the Ring Road, is covered, as are Parts I, II and III to the north. The interchange station sits close by, so tutors from both metro lines can reach you without a long walk or drive.
Yes, home tutors travel to South Extension Part 2 from Lajpat Nagar, Defence Colony, Kotla Mubarakpur and other colonies near the Pink Line. Send your block and floor, and we shortlist the nearest tutors first, with each fee shown before the free demo.
East of Kailash differs from the rest of the zone because DDA flats and cooperative societies sit beside private floors. In the societies, the tutor's name usually goes into a gate register, while floors are doorstep visits. Mention which kind of home you have in the request.
Yes, one tutor often teaches families in two neighbouring colonies of this zone on the same evening, especially along the Violet Line from Lajpat Nagar to Nehru Place. That makes regular weekday slots easier to arrange and keep through the school year.
Festive-season evenings near the big markets of this zone, and rush hours on the Ring Road and Outer Ring Road, are the hardest for tutors. Book lessons before or after the peak, or switch to an online class on those days.
Yes, NXTutors covers Pamposh Enclave, a small colony near Greater Kailash station on the Magenta Line. Tutors from GK-2, Chittaranjan Park and Kalkaji have short trips, and online tutors are available for specialist subjects. Tell us your lane and the nearest playground as a landmark.
Yes, any family in this zone can change tutor later, and the change is free. We send a fresh set of matched tutors with fees and a free demo, looking first at tutors from your colony and the ones next to it.
Usually. Block RWAs in Greater Kailash and Defence Colony keep guards at the entrances with visitor registers. Give the guard the tutor's name before the first class. After that the tutor goes to your floor; in rebuilt builder floors, say which bell to ring, since each storey has its own.
Lajpat Nagar station, where the Violet and Pink Lines meet, is closest for most of Lajpat Nagar's four parts, with Moolchand serving the western side. South Extension has its own Pink Line station. Tutors can walk or take an e-rickshaw from either rather than hunt for parking near the markets.
Yes. East of Kailash mixes independent houses and builder floors with DDA flats and cooperative group housing, so one street may be private floors and the next a gated DDA pocket with its own RWA. The tutor's name goes into the gate register in the pockets and societies, while floors are doorstep visits.
By distance first, then subject fit. Tutors who live in or near your colony are listed before those who travel in, then others in Delhi, then online tutors. You get two or three, see their fees before the free demo, and can switch later without paying anything for the change.
