Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

Lajpat Nagar sits in our GK, Defence Colony and Lajpat Nagar zone of Delhi. Two things shape tuition here more than anything else: a metro interchange in the middle of the colony, and a busy market a short walk from many homes. This guide explains how both affect the tutor's trip, the lesson slot and the week.

Lajpat Nagar began in the 1950s as a resettlement colony for families who came from what had become Pakistan after Partition. Wikipedia records that the first plots were small, about 15 by 60 feet, with single-storey houses under asbestos roofs. Almost all of those houses have since been rebuilt upwards, so a lane that once held one family per plot now often holds three or four households, one on each floor.
That history explains the housing a tutor walks into today. Portals describe Lajpat Nagar III as mostly builder floors and independent houses with few large apartment complexes, and Lajpat Nagar IV listings run from 1 RK and studio units to 2, 3 and 4 BHK floors, alongside showrooms and shops. In practice, a family may be on the second floor of a narrow building with a shared staircase, or in a whole house that has stayed in the family for generations.
Wikipedia notes that many early settlers were Saraiki and Sindhi families, and the area is also known for its Afghan bakeries, restaurants and guesthouses. Square Yards describes Lajpat Nagar as a cultural hub, with busy daily markets next to quieter residential pockets.
For tuition, what matters is less the part and more the floor. A home on an upper storey with a shared stair needs a clearer arrival plan than a ground-floor house with its own gate.
Locality reviews on property portals return to the same few themes for Lajpat Nagar. Each has a practical meaning for a home tutor.
Beyond these, parents ask the questions they would ask anywhere: will the tutor keep the same weekly slot, do they know how the school's board marks answers, and should a senior subject be taught at home or online? The sections below answer those for Lajpat Nagar specifically.
Lajpat Nagar station on Lala Lajpat Rai Marg is where two metro lines meet. The Violet Line platforms are elevated and opened in October 2010; the Pink Line platforms are underground and opened in August 2018. On the Violet Line, the next stops are Jangpura towards Kashmere Gate and Moolchand towards Ballabhgarh. On the Pink Line, the neighbours are South Extension on one side and Vinobapuri on the other.
This matters because a tutor living near either line can reach you without a change of train, and the Pink Line, which runs in a ring, links many parts of the city. Wikipedia notes that Gate 5 of the station is about a kilometre from the Central Market. For homes in the western part of the colony and towards Defence Colony, Moolchand station on the Violet Line can be closer.
By road, the Ring Road (also called Mahatma Gandhi Road) splits the four parts, with the Defence Colony–Lajpat Nagar flyover carrying traffic over it. An underpass opened in 2014 links Lajpat Nagar with Jangpura. Inside the colony, Lala Lajpat Rai Marg, Firoz Gandhi Marg and Shaheed Mohan Dutta Marg are the roads a tutor is most likely to use. Buses also serve the area: Wikipedia lists route 543 from Anand Vihar and the Teevr Mudrika ring service.
The shortest trips usually come from Jangpura, Defence Colony, Andrews Ganj and East of Kailash. We do not quote travel minutes, because the market and the Ring Road change them so much by the hour. Ask each tutor which way they will come and at what time they will set out.
Most Lajpat Nagar homes are not gated societies with a visitor app. They are builder floors and houses on plotted lanes, some with an RWA gate at the end of the block and many with a shared front door and stair. That makes the arrival plan simple but easy to get wrong.
Before the demo, send the tutor four things: the part (I, II, III or IV), the block and house number, the floor, and which bell or intercom to press. If your building has a shared staircase with several bells, say which one is yours. If the block has a guard at the lane gate, tell the guard the tutor's name and the time, once, before the first visit.
The lesson usually happens in the living room or a bedroom used as a study. On a small floor, choose a slot when the rest of the household is settled, and keep the television off in the same room. For young children, keep an adult at home throughout and the door of the study room open.
If you prefer a woman tutor, mention it when you send the request; NXTutors can shortlist a female home tutor in Delhi where one is available for your subject and timing. Tutors who join NXTutors go through an ID check, with a one-time code on phone or email and a government photo ID that our team reviews. It confirms who the person coming to your Lajpat Nagar home is; it is not a police or background check. Read how the ID check works, and use the free demo to judge the teaching yourself.
Most requests from Lajpat Nagar are for CBSE, with some for ICSE or ISC and the occasional IB or IGCSE student. For a tutor, the board decides the books and the style of answer: a CBSE home tutor in Delhi works from NCERT texts and the sample papers on cbseacademic.nic.in, while an ICSE or ISC tutor follows the CISCE syllabus and its prescribed literature texts, which you should share in the first week.
One thing does change for Class 10 CBSE students: from 2026 the board offers two exam sittings in the year, the second for improvement. Plan the year towards the first one.
In a builder-floor home with limited space, one tutor covering two subjects is common in middle school, while board years often need a tutor per subject. For a side-by-side look at the boards, read our CBSE vs ICSE vs IB vs IGCSE guide.
For small children, three or four short lessons a week work better than one long one. In a compact floor, set up one corner with a low table, the school diary and a pencil box, and keep it the same every day. Children in busy colonies often have a lot happening around them after school, so a lesson that starts soon after lunch and rest, before the evening noise, usually gets the most attention. Our primary tutors in Delhi page covers this stage.
These are the years when gaps in Maths and Science quietly grow. Many Lajpat Nagar families take one tutor for both, then add English or a language if the school report shows a need. Ask the tutor to look at the school notebook and the last test paper each week rather than only the textbook, so they teach what the school is actually marking.
Board planning begins in Class 9. Lessons of about 90 minutes, two or three times a week, leave time to teach a topic and then set a timed question on it. Maths is the subject we are asked about most at this stage; a maths home tutor in Delhi can also help with the habit of showing working, which board examiners reward. For CBSE, keep the year aimed at the first sitting.
Senior students usually need one tutor per subject: Physics, Chemistry, Maths, Biology, Accountancy, Economics or Business Studies. Where JEE or NEET is part of the plan, the hours rise. Because Lajpat Nagar is on two metro lines, a senior student who travels to a coaching class in the evening can get home quickly, but the evening then fills up. A weekend morning home lesson is often the easiest slot to protect for board-subject revision.
Board exams for most students here fall in the first months of the year. CBSE's press releases on cbse.gov.in give the dates once they are announced; CISCE posts ICSE and ISC timetables on cisce.org; IB Diploma exams run in May and November sessions, and Cambridge IGCSE in March, June and November series. Take dates only from those sites.
Locally, remember that the weeks before major festivals bring the heaviest shopping crowds to the Central Market, and these can overlap with pre-board and revision weeks in winter. If your home is near the market, agree with the tutor early which revision lessons can move online.
A home tutor saves your child the trip and lets you see the lesson. In Lajpat Nagar, the interchange station also means you are not limited to tutors from the next lane: tutors along the Violet and Pink Lines can reach you without a change. The cost is the last stretch through market lanes at busy times.
Online lessons remove the travel entirely. They are the sensible choice on heavy-rain days, during festival-season crowds, and for subjects where the right specialist lives far away. Senior IB, IGCSE and entrance subjects are where an online tutor in Delhi often makes the most sense.
A coaching centre puts the travel on your child. From Lajpat Nagar that is easier than from most colonies, because two lines leave from the same station. Still, a late class means a late ride home and a walk from the station, so many families keep a home tutor for school subjects and use a centre or online class only for one specialist need.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Each tutor sets their own fee, and NXTutors shows it to you before the demo.
What moves the fee is mostly the class, the board, the subject and how many hours a week you book. Travel plays a part: a tutor who walks over from Jangpura or Defence Colony has an easy trip, while one who has to cross the Ring Road at the evening peak, or come through the market lanes, may prefer longer lessons on fewer days.
Before you agree, ask how the tutor counts lessons you cancel, festival weeks and extra classes before exams. Then multiply the hourly fee by the lesson length and the number of lessons in the month, so the month-end figure is no surprise.
We could not find a public library branch or civic study room inside Lajpat Nagar from an official source, so we have not listed one. The Japan Foundation library, often linked with Lajpat Nagar in older listings, now gives its address as Green Park. For most students here, a quiet corner at home, set up the same way every day, remains the main study space.
Jangpura belongs to the Lodhi Colony, Jangpura and Nizamuddin zone; the others share our GK, Defence Colony and Lajpat Nagar zone guide.

Lajpat Nagar gives its name to part of the GK, Defence Colony & Lajpat Nagar zone on NXTutors, which has seven pages in all, including Defence Colony, South Extension and Pamposh Enclave. If you are looking for a tutor here, the tutors listed for any of those pages may also be worth asking.
Your child's Class 11 Economics, Class 7 Maths or IB Physics can all be requested in one go. We read the class, board and subjects, then send two or three tutors for those subjects. Our Economics home tutors page covers the subject across Delhi.
At the start of this page are the tutors who live in Lajpat Nagar or travel there. After them come teachers covering the zone's other pages, then Delhi beyond it, then home tutors living in Ghaziabad or Faridabad, and online tutors last. Each card states why it is there. Before you book, ask the tutor three things: which classes they teach most often, how they set work between lessons, and how they will report progress to you. The first class is a free demo, so there is time to decide calmly, without paying anything for that first meeting.
