What home tuition costs in Delhi

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.

Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

Home tuition in Greater Kailash 1: the short answer

Yes, a tutor can come to your GK-1 floor, or teach your child online. Tell NXTutors the class, board, subject and your block letter, and you get two or three matched tutors. Each tutor's fee is on the shortlist before anything is booked, the first class is a free demo, and if the fit stops working later, a switch costs nothing.

Greater Kailash 1 sits in the GK, Defence Colony & Lajpat Nagar zone of Delhi. This guide is about the practical side of a weekly lesson here: which block you are in, which station a tutor rides to, how the market evenings change the trip, and how to set up a lesson on a builder floor.

Who lives in GK-1: lettered blocks, rebuilt plots and two busy markets

GK-1 is a plotted colony, not a set of apartment towers. The Delhi State Election Commission's ward map for ward 173 shows its blocks as A, B, C, D, E, G, L, M, N, R, S and W, with the old village of Zamrudpur and the colony of Kailash Colony pressed against its edges. That block letter is the first thing a tutor needs from you, because two addresses with the same house number can be a long walk apart if the letters differ.

Wikipedia describes the housing as builder floors and independent villas, and property listings for GK-1 show new builder-floor projects going up in blocks such as M, S, W and E. In practice that means one plot often holds three or four separate homes, one above the other, each with its own door or bell, sometimes with a shared staircase and sometimes with a lift. A tutor coming to a second-floor home in a rebuilt S Block plot is in a very different setting from one visiting an older single-family house in another block, and both exist in the colony.

Well beyond its own lanes, the colony is known for its markets. Wikipedia names the M and N Block markets as popular with Delhi residents and visitors for shopping, restaurants and bars. For families who live a lane or two from either market, that popularity shapes the evening: more cars, more people looking for a parking spot, and more noise after dark. Families deeper inside the residential blocks often hear very little of it.

Many households here run on two working parents, staff at home and children with full after-school calendars. That is why a home tutor who can hold a fixed slot, and who knows how to work at a dining table while the house carries on around them, tends to suit GK-1 better than a tutor who needs a quiet classroom feel.

Which tutor fits your child?

What GK-1 parents think about before booking a tutor

Public reporting and property-portal summaries about Greater Kailash return to a few practical themes. We turn each into planning advice; none of it is a judgement on any block or authority.

  • Market parking. News coverage of Greater Kailash ahead of the 2025 Delhi polls described traders at the M Block market saying parking spaces are too few, with the squeeze worse in the festive season. A civic plan for an automated multi-level car park at M Block in GK-1 was reported in 2021, and in November 2025 the MCD said new parking facilities in Greater Kailash had opened. Even so, a tutor who drives should know where they will park before the demo day.
  • Footpaths and encroachment. The same reporting mentions encroached footpaths near the market. A tutor walking from Kailash Colony station may find the inner lanes easier than the market frontage.
  • Peak-hour roads. Property-portal notes for GK-1 say traffic varies at peak hours, and the Outer Ring Road runs along the colony. Slots that start before the evening rush, or after it, are easier to keep every week.
  • Green lanes and public transport. Portal summaries for Greater Kailash also praise its parks, sidewalks and reach to the metro and buses. That supports a simple choice: a tutor who comes by train and walks the last stretch.

The questions families ask us after that are the same ones you would ask: can the tutor keep a steady slot through the school term, do they know my child's board, and is a senior subject better done at home or online? The sections below take each one for GK-1.

How a tutor reaches your GK-1 block

By metro

Two stations bracket the colony. Kailash Colony, on the Violet Line, is an elevated station on Lala Lajpat Rai Road in Block A of Kailash Colony, open since 3 October 2010. Going north it connects to Moolchand and then Lajpat Nagar, where the Pink Line meets it; going south the next stop is Nehru Place. A tutor living anywhere along the Violet Line, from Jangpura down to the Kalkaji side, can ride in and walk.

Greater Kailash station, on the Magenta Line, opened on 29 May 2018 and is underground, with its address in Masjid Moth. Its neighbours on the line are Chirag Delhi on one side and Nehru Enclave on the other, so it suits a tutor coming from the Hauz Khas or Kalkaji Mandir direction. For the blocks nearer Kailash Colony, the Violet Line station is usually the more natural choice; ask the tutor which one they plan to use and point them to the block.

By road

The ward map names the Outer Ring Road along the colony, with roads such as Lala Lajpat Rai Path, Josip Broz Tito Marg and Raja Dhersain Marg running past or through it. A tutor on a two-wheeler can usually move between blocks quickly; a tutor in a car meets the same parking question as everyone else near the M and N Block markets. Wikipedia gives Greater Kailash as about 9 km from Nizamuddin railway station, which places it within reach for tutors from central and east Delhi as well as the south.

Who can come

The shortest trips are from next-door colonies: East of Kailash, Kailash Colony, Chittaranjan Park and GK-2 across the Outer Ring Road. We do not quote travel minutes, since they change so much with the hour. Ask each tutor which way they will come, and at what time.

Gates, floors and safety on a GK-1 plot

Most GK-1 homes are not inside a single society gate. Instead, a tutor meets a block entrance with a guard, then a plot with several homes on it. Give the tutor four things before the demo: the block letter, the house number, the floor, and which bell or intercom is yours. If the building has a lift that needs a card or key, say so, or plan to meet them at the ground floor on the first day.

Where your block keeps a visitor register, tell the guard the tutor's name ahead of the first class. After two or three visits, most guards recognise a regular visitor, but if your block uses an app or a pass, ask how a weekly tutor is added. If the tutor rides or drives in, tell them where a visitor can leave a vehicle without blocking a neighbour's gate.

On a shared plot, sound travels through stairwells. A room with a door, or at least a corner away from the main living area, helps both the child and the household. For younger children, keep an adult at home and the study-room door open.

If you would prefer a woman tutor, say so in the request and we will try to shortlist one through our female home tutor page for Delhi, where one fits your class, subject and slot. Tutors who join NXTutors go through an ID check: a one-time code on their phone or email, then a government photo ID that our team reviews. That review establishes identity only, and is not a police or background check of any kind. Read how our tutor ID check works, and use the free demo to judge the teaching.

Boards GK-1 families ask about

Families in GK-1 mostly ask about CBSE, and a fair number ask about ICSE and ISC, IB or Cambridge IGCSE, because children from the colony travel to schools across South Delhi that follow different boards. The board decides what a tutor plans, so name it in the first message.

On a builder floor, the practical difference is the paperwork the tutor needs to see. A CBSE tutor works from NCERT books and the sample papers on cbseacademic.nic.in. An ICSE tutor needs the prescribed texts from cisce.org. An IB or IGCSE tutor needs the exact subject guide or syllabus code from your child's school. Keep those papers in one folder in the study corner so the lesson starts on time.

For a full side-by-side view of what each board expects, read our comparison of CBSE, ICSE, IB and IGCSE.

Lessons by class band in a GK-1 home

Nursery to Class 5

Small children learn well in short, regular sessions, often 45 minutes to an hour on three or four weekdays. On a rebuilt plot, pick the quietest room on your floor, away from the television and the kitchen. Keep the school diary on the study table so the tutor sees what was taught that week. Many families here have staff at home; let them know when the lesson runs so a snack or a doorbell does not cut into it. Our primary home tutors in Delhi page has more on this stage.

Classes 6 to 8

These years build the ground for Maths and Science in the board classes. One tutor for both subjects is common, with English or a second language added if the school report asks for it. Ask the tutor to look at the school notebook and the last test, not only the textbook. A maths home tutor in Delhi is the request we hear most often for this band.

Classes 9 and 10

Class 9 is when the board year really starts, even though the exam is a year off. Lessons move to two subjects at most per tutor, and the weekly slot matters more than the length of each class. If your floor is near the M or N Block market, avoid the hours when the lane outside is loudest, because concentration in long problem sets suffers first.

Classes 11 and 12

Families usually take a separate tutor for each main subject at this stage, such as Physics, Chemistry and Maths, or Accountancy and Economics. Senior tutors have tight calendars, so fix the slot before the school year fills up. Some GK-1 families keep a home tutor for the subject with the most written work and move a second subject online to save travel on weekday evenings.

JEE, NEET and other entrance exams

A home tutor for an entrance exam works well as a support to school study and any course the student already follows: clearing doubts, setting timed practice and reviewing mistakes. Ask the tutor how they will track progress month by month, and agree it in writing at the demo.

Exam season in GK-1

Board papers for CBSE and CISCE students are mostly written in February and March, so the winter months are when slots get scarce and tutors are asked for extra sessions. IB exams are held in May and November, and Cambridge runs its India exam series in March, June and November. Take dates only from cbse.gov.in, cisce.org, ibo.org and cambridgeinternational.org.

In GK-1, the weeks before Diwali and the wedding season bring heavier traffic near the markets. If those weeks fall close to a school test, move one or two lessons online rather than lose them.

Home tutor, online tutor or a coaching centre from GK-1?

  • Home tutor. One teacher, one child, at your table. It suits younger children, children who drift in a group, and families who want to see the lesson. In GK-1 the trade-off is the tutor's trip at market hours.
  • Online tutor. No travel and a wider choice of specialists, useful for IB, IGCSE or a rare subject. It needs a laptop, a steady connection and a child who can hold attention on a screen.
  • Coaching centre. A batch and a fixed timetable. It suits a self-driven older student. From GK-1, it often means a parent or a driver making the same evening trip a tutor would make.

Many families mix the three: a home tutor for the child's weakest subject, an online tutor in Delhi for a specialist need, and a centre only for entrance practice.

What a home tutor costs in GK-1

Each tutor on NXTutors sets their own fee, and you see it on the shortlist before the demo. Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more.

What moves a fee is the same everywhere: the class and board, the subject, the tutor's experience, how many sessions a week you want, and how far the tutor travels. A tutor coming across the city at market hours will price that trip in, which is one reason families in GK-1 often find a tutor from a next-door colony easier to keep. Ask whether the fee is per session or per month, and how a missed class is handled, before you start.

Quiet study spots near GK-1

We could not find a public library inside GK-1 that we can name from a reliable source, so we do not list one. For study away from home, many families simply use the family's own quietest room, or move the lesson online on the loudest market evenings.

About this Area

From Class 9 Maths to Class 12 Accountancy, you can ask for help at any stage of school in Greater Kailash 1. Send one request with the class, board, subjects and the evenings you can manage, and NXTutors will introduce two or three tutors. You see what each charges before anything is booked, and the opening lesson is free, a demo with no obligation.

Greater Kailash 1 belongs to the GK, Defence Colony & Lajpat Nagar zone on NXTutors, with six other pages, among them Greater Kailash 2, South Extension and Defence Colony. Tutors from those pages can be asked whether they would teach here too.

The list you see begins with anyone who lives in Greater Kailash 1 or has said they travel there. Then the page turns to the zone's other pages and the wider city, followed by home tutors who live in Gurugram, and then online tutors. Each card says why that tutor appears. For Commerce subjects, our Accountancy home tutors page covers Delhi. If your child follows ISC rather than CBSE, mention that, since the two boards set different papers, and ask for a tutor who already teaches yours. Ask, too, how homework will be checked.

FAQs

Send NXTutors your child's class, board, subject and your GK-1 block, and we suggest two or three matched tutors. Each tutor's fee appears before you book anything. The first class is a free demo, and if the tutor stops suiting your child later, switching to another one is free.
Fees in Greater Kailash 1 depend on the tutor, who sets them and shows them before the demo. Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more.
Yes, families in GK-1 can ask for a woman tutor when they send the request. We then try to shortlist women tutors who fit the class, subject and timing. Tutors who join go through an ID check of a government photo ID; it is not a police check.
For most GK-1 blocks, Kailash Colony on the Violet Line is the nearer station, with Greater Kailash on the Magenta Line serving the Masjid Moth side. Tell the tutor your block letter and they can pick the station and walk the rest.
For a GK-1 student who needs attention in one or two subjects, a home tutor usually works better; a centre suits a self-driven older student. Many families combine a home tutor for the weakest subject with online help or a batch for entrance practice.
Home tutors who travel to GK-1 teach CBSE most often, along with ICSE and ISC, IB and Cambridge IGCSE. Tell us the board and the school's syllabus or subject guide, so the shortlist only includes tutors who already know that board.
Yes, NXTutors takes requests from every block of GK 1, from A and B through M, N, R, S and W. The block letter helps us pick tutors from next-door colonies first, and online tutors are available for any block.
Ask for a maths tutor in Greater Kailash 1 by naming the class and board in your request. Maths is the subject GK-1 families ask about most for Classes 6 to 10. You see two or three tutors with fees, then take a free demo before deciding.
Parking near GK-1's M and N Block markets can be tight in the evenings, as news reports on the area have noted. A tutor who comes by metro or two-wheeler avoids most of it. If they drive, agree on a parking spot before the demo.
Before coming to a GK-1 builder floor, a tutor needs the block letter, house number, floor and which bell to ring. Tell the block guard the tutor's name before the first class, and mention if the lift needs a card or key.
Yes, a GK-1 family can switch tutor at any time, and the switch is free. We suggest a fresh set of two or three matched tutors, again with each fee shown and a free demo, starting with tutors from colonies near your block, so lessons resume quickly.
Online classes work well for Greater Kailash 1 students who need an IB, IGCSE or specialist subject tutor, or on evenings when market traffic makes travel hard. They need a laptop, a quiet room and a child who stays focused on a screen.
GK-1 families should book a board-year tutor at the start of the school session, well before the winter rush. CBSE and CISCE papers mostly fall in February and March, and the evening slots of senior subject tutors tend to fill up by late autumn, so waiting costs choice.
Yes, you can ask for it. Tell us whether the course is CBSE or ISC and share the chapters done and the school book in use. We will look for Class 12 Accountancy tutors, at home in Greater Kailash 1 or online, and a free demo with each lets you compare them.
Yes, and switching costs nothing. If the pace or the style is not right for your child after a few weeks, tell us what you would like to be different. We will suggest another tutor for Greater Kailash 1, possibly from another page in the same zone, and the first class with them is free.
It can happen. If your block keeps guards at the entrance, give the tutor's name to the guard before the first class. After that, visits are simple: the tutor goes to your floor once the guard waves them through.
