Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

South Extension belongs to our GK, Defence Colony and Lajpat Nagar zone in Delhi. It is split down the middle by the Ring Road and one of the city's most familiar shopping streets, with quiet residential blocks behind the shopfronts and Mughal-era tombs among the houses. Below is what that layout means for a tutor's trip, the right slot and a lesson that actually happens every week.
| Topic | South Extension (South Ex) |
|---|---|
| Parts | South Extension Part I and Part II, on either side of the Ring Road |
| Housing | Mainly 2, 3 and 4 BHK builder floors; some independent houses and a few gated blocks such as DDA Shalimar Apartment |
| Metro | South Extension station, Pink Line, underground, in Block E of Part II; exits marked for Part 1 and Part 2 |
| Next stops | Lajpat Nagar (change for Violet Line) and Dilli Haat–INA (change for Yellow Line) |
| Roads | Ring Road, Aurobindo Marg, August Kranti Marg, Bheeshma Pitamah Marg, Barahpulla Marg |
| Neighbours | Kotla Mubarakpur, Defence Colony, Lajpat Nagar, East Kidwai Nagar, INA Colony, Sewa Nagar |
| Boards families ask about | Largely CBSE, with ICSE/ISC and some IB or IGCSE |
| Easier lesson times | Before the evening shopping rush, weekday mornings for younger children, weekend mornings for seniors |
South Extension, often written NDSE and called South Ex, grew on land that once belonged to Kotla Mubarakpur village. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi is the civic body. Part I lies on one side of the Ring Road and Part II on the other, with a footbridge near the metro linking the two shopping districts.
Behind the shops, the housing is mostly builder floors. Square Yards puts builder floors at almost all of the homes listed for sale, mainly 2 and 3 BHK, with 4 BHK floors and some independent houses and villas too. MyGate lists a handful of gated blocks, including DDA Shalimar Apartment (studio to 3 BHK) and the RWA South Extension 2 blocks with larger floors. Next door, Kotla Mubarakpur has older independent houses on narrower lanes.
The area's history is visible on the street. The twin Mughal tombs known as Bade Khan and Chote Khan ka Gumbad stand in the Kotla Mubarakpur complex; Kale Khan ka Makbara is in Part I; and Moth ki Masjid, built in 1505 under Sikandar Lodi, is now surrounded by the colony. These are useful landmarks to give a tutor who is new to the area.
Many South Ex families are close to large hospitals: the locality sits just east of AIIMS, with Safdarjung Hospital nearby. Parents who work long or shift hours in medicine or business often need a tutor who can hold a fixed slot, which is worth saying in your request.
For the lesson itself, no. For the trip, a little: the station sits in Part II with exits labelled for both parts, so tell the tutor which part you are in and which exit to use.
Resident reviews on Square Yards and MyGate for South Extension circle around a few points, and each one has a simple tuition answer.
The rest of what parents ask is universal: is the tutor reliable week to week, do they know the school's board, and is a senior subject better done at home or online? We cover those for South Ex below.
South Extension station opened on 6 August 2018 on the Pink Line. It is underground, about 20 metres deep, with an island platform, and Wikipedia gives its address as Block E, South Extension II. Its gates are labelled for South Extension 1 and South Extension 2, and two of the four gates are step-free.
The Pink Line runs as a ring, so a tutor living near any Pink Line station can come without changing trains. The adjacent stops are useful interchanges: Lajpat Nagar, one stop east, connects with the Violet Line, and Dilli Haat–INA, one stop west, connects with the Yellow Line. Property guides also note that INA and AIIMS stations on the Yellow Line are roughly two kilometres away, which gives tutors coming up from Gurugram or the far south another way in.
By road, the Ring Road carries the main traffic past the markets. Aurobindo Marg leads towards Green Park and Hauz Khas, August Kranti Marg runs north towards India Gate, and Bheeshma Pitamah Marg and Barahpulla Marg serve the eastern side. Lodhi Colony railway station is the closest suburban rail stop.
The shortest trips usually come from Defence Colony, Kotla Mubarakpur, East Kidwai Nagar and Lajpat Nagar. We do not quote minutes because the Ring Road varies so much by hour and season; ask each tutor which line or road they plan to use, and when they will leave.
In a South Extension builder floor, each storey usually has its own bell, and some buildings have a lift while others have only a stair. Before the demo, give the tutor your part, block, plot number and floor, and say whether there is a lift. If the building has a stilt or ground-floor entrance shared by several families, name the bell.
The gated blocks are a little different. In a DDA pocket such as Shalimar Apartment or an RWA-run block with a guard, tell the guard the tutor's name and timing before the first lesson, and ask the RWA whether a regular visitor can be noted down so the guard does not call you each week.
Inside the home, a dining table works well for most ages, provided the room is quiet for the lesson. Keep an adult in the home for any child, and leave the study-room door open, particularly for primary classes.
Families who prefer a woman teacher can say so in the request; NXTutors will shortlist a woman home tutor in Delhi where one fits the subject and slot. Everyone who joins as a tutor goes through an ID check: a one-time code on phone or email and a government photo ID reviewed by our team. For South Extension families, this confirms identity only and is not a police or background check. You can read how tutor ID checks are done, and the free demo is where you judge the teaching.
Requests from South Extension are largely for CBSE, with a share for ICSE and ISC, and some families asking about IB or Cambridge IGCSE. For IB and IGCSE students, the tutor must work from the exact subject guide or syllabus the school uses, so share it on day one; our IB tutors in Delhi page explains what to look for.
For CBSE Class 10, the board's own scheme now allows a second sitting later in the same year to improve a score, so the main sitting stays the target.
In a builder-floor home, the board matters less for the room than for the tutor's choice: ICSE and ISC spread work across more subjects, so a South Ex family on that board may need two tutors sooner. The full comparison is in our board comparison guide.
Early learners need short, regular sessions, around 45 minutes, three or four times a week. A run in one of the neighbourhood parks before the lesson often helps a restless child settle. Keep reading books, the school diary and worksheets in one place so the tutor can pick up where the class left off.
Middle school is where reading, Maths and Science habits are set. One tutor for Maths and Science is common; an English tutor at home in Delhi is a frequent second request when writing or grammar slips. Ask the tutor to keep a short weekly note of what was covered, so you can see progress without sitting in.
From Class 9 the lessons lengthen, to about 90 minutes, and include timed practice. Science and Maths take most of the time. For Class 10 on CBSE, the tutor plans around the main board sitting; on ICSE, around a wider spread of papers.
Senior years usually mean a separate tutor for each main subject. Science students often ask for physics home tuition in Delhi first, since it carries both board and entrance weight. A student who goes by Pink Line to an evening class elsewhere may find a weekend morning lesson at home the most reliable.
For CBSE, ICSE and ISC students, board papers come early in the calendar year, with pre-boards before them. IB Diploma exams fall in May and November sessions, and Cambridge IGCSE in March, June and November series. Use only the boards' own websites for dates.
South Ex's busiest shopping and wedding weeks often fall in the same winter months as pre-boards. If your block is near the Ring Road markets, plan with the tutor which revision sessions can shift online if roads jam.
Home tuition keeps your child at home and lets you see the lessons. In South Ex, the Pink Line station means tutors from well beyond the next colony can reach you without changing trains, which widens the choice for less common subjects.
Online tuition is useful when the air is bad, when wedding-season traffic makes evenings unpredictable, or when the specialist you need for IB, IGCSE or an entrance subject lives far away.
A coaching centre suits a student who travels confidently by metro. South Ex's interchanges to the Violet and Yellow Lines are one stop away in each direction, which helps. The trade-off is time: the trip and a late return eat into the evening. Many families keep a home tutor for board subjects and use online or centre classes only for one targeted need.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Fees are set by each tutor, and NXTutors puts them in front of you before the demo.
The main things that move a fee are the class, the board, the subject and the hours a week. A tutor coming one stop on the Pink Line has an easy commute; one who drives the Ring Road in the evening, or travels from across the city, may prefer longer, less frequent sessions.
Ask up front how the tutor handles lessons you cancel, holidays and extra sessions before exams, and work out the month by multiplying the hourly fee by the lesson length and the number of lessons.
We found no public library or civic study room in South Extension from an official source, so none is listed. Square Yards lists several neighbourhood parks, including South Extension I Park and Bapu Park in Kotla Mubarakpur, which suit a break or a walk between study blocks rather than desk work. The main study space for most students here is a quiet room at home.
Green Park and Safdarjung Enclave belong to neighbouring zones; the rest are covered in our guide to the GK, Defence Colony and Lajpat Nagar zone.

If your child in South Extension is aiming at medical entrance, you may want two things at once: steady school work and serious NEET practice. You can ask for both. Our NEET home tutors page covers Delhi, and from here you can request a Biology or Chemistry tutor at home, online or a mix.
For any subject, NXTutors finds two or three tutors for your child's class and board. The fee for each is shown in advance, while the opening class costs nothing.
South Extension belongs to the GK, Defence Colony & Lajpat Nagar zone, alongside six other pages, among them Defence Colony and Greater Kailash 2. Tutors living in South Extension, or who list it as a place they travel to, appear first on this page. If there is no one yet for your subject, the list moves on to the zone's other pages, wider Delhi, home tutors living in Noida, and online tutors, each card explaining its reason. ICSE and ISC students can be matched too: CISCE runs those examinations, so mention the board when you write to us. Before you book, ask each tutor how they would split time between the school syllabus and entrance practice, and how often they set timed tests.
