Tutors who join go through an ID check. Tell us the class, board and your area: we share two or three matched tutors, each with their fee, and the first class is a free demo, at home or online.
Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

In many Bhubaneswar homes Odia is the language of the dinner table, while English is the language of the examination hall. Some children read English well but lose marks on letter formats and word limits; others follow every lesson yet stall when asked to write a full paragraph; and older students often want spoken English for college interviews as much as for the board. Before naming anyone, NXTutors pins down the examining body (BSE Odisha, CHSE, CBSE, CISCE or an international one), the weakest skill and your locality. A shortlist of two or three English tutors follows, every fee visible, and the opening lesson with the tutor you prefer is free.
The subject has one name and several very different papers. The examining body decides the texts, the formats and the share of marks for reading, writing and literature.
| Body | Class 10 level | Class 12 level | Tutor works from |
|---|---|---|---|
| BSE Odisha and CHSE | English in the annual HSC examination | English in the +2 course set by the council | Prescribed books and sample papers from bseodisha.ac.in; the current +2 syllabus on chseodisha.nic.in |
| CBSE | English Language and Literature, with the board marking 80 and the school 20 | English Core, again 80 + 20, where the 20 covers listening, speaking and a project | The NCERT readers plus CBSE's sample papers and marking schemes |
| CISCE | ICSE has a language paper and a literature paper, 80 marks each, with internal marks besides | ISC has two papers of three hours and 80 marks, project work attached to each | Prescribed texts and the specimen papers CISCE posts |
| Cambridge; IB | IGCSE English as a First Language (0500) or as a Second Language (0510 or 0511) | IB Language A: analysis of unseen texts, a comparative essay, an oral | Past papers, and which entry the school has chosen |
In 2026-27 the board's 80 marks fall into three parts, and literature takes half. If the school's chapter of the week sets every lesson, reading and writing get starved. A rotation that mirrors the marks fixes that:
| Block | Marks | Content | In the weekly rotation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Reading | 20 | A discursive passage, and a case-based factual passage built on a chart or data | One timed unseen passage, answers checked line by line against the text |
| Grammar | 10 | Items from the syllabus grammar list | Errors taken from the student's own writing, corrected by pattern |
| Writing | 10 | Formal letter worth 5; analytical paragraph worth 5, describing a chart, graph or map | One piece a week, alternating the two; format first, then content and linking |
| Literature | 40 | First Flight and Footprints without Feet | Two answers planned in points, written to the word limit, quoting the text |
| Internal (school) | 20 | Includes 5 for listening and speaking | A short spoken summary to close each lesson |
Literature is where a student who understands a story perfectly in Odia can still write a thin answer in English. Planned answers marked for relevance and length do more for the score than another grammar worksheet.
Odisha's Class 10 students take English in the annual HSC examination of the Board of Secondary Education, Odisha, which publishes its textbook list and sample papers online. After Class 10, the Council of Higher Secondary Education, Odisha sets the +2 syllabus, holds the examination and declares results. We keep our notes on both general: the papers and formats are the boards' to define, and they change. A tutor for these students should teach from the prescribed books, use the board's own sample papers, explain in Odia while confidence in English is still growing, and confirm every format and date on bseodisha.ac.in or chseodisha.nic.in.
A child changing medium, whether at Class 9, at the start of +2 or at any other point, needs explanations in both languages at first and a deliberate plan for the Odia to fade. A term-long plan usually moves through four phases:
| Phase | What happens in lessons | What happens at home |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Two-way translation | A short Odia paragraph rendered in English, then an English one rendered back, to show exactly where sentence order breaks | A short spell of English reading every day |
| 2. Word bank | Subject words met in other lessons collected with meanings and an example sentence each | A reading diary: two new words and one sentence about the text |
| 3. Answer frames | Ready first sentences and connecting words for a letter, a paragraph or a literature answer, repeated until the student stops reaching for them | One short written answer every other day |
| 4. English only | From an agreed date, the whole lesson runs in English, with Odia only to rescue a stuck moment | Spoken summaries of the day's reading to a family member |
Yes, and it fits board work neatly, because CBSE, ICSE and ISC all give marks for listening and speaking. Lessons can end with a short spoken summary, then build to brief prepared talks and question-and-answer rounds. If spoken confidence matters for its own sake, for interviews or college, say so in the request; it changes which tutor we shortlist. Our spoken English guide for students covers methods that work.
At this age the goal is a confident reader. Watch for three signs that help is needed: guessing at words from the first letter, losing the line, or quietly avoiding books. The cure is little and often. The child decodes new words aloud, reads a page to a patient adult, then tells the story back in fresh sentences, and a short, sharp session does more than a long tired one. Where English is rarely heard at home, a tutor who chats about pictures and stories in plain English, using Odia only as a rescue, grows listening and reading together. Request a primary-years specialist by name in your message.
Few tutors in Bhubaneswar specialise in ISC, IGCSE or IB English, which is why online lessons often solve the search. Every course gets fuller treatment on the national English home tutor page.
There is no metro running in Bhubaneswar, so tutors travel by two-wheeler, auto or car, and the most practical match is usually someone from your own side of the city. Our Bhubaneswar home tuition page covers every locality.
| Locality | Homes | Plan for |
|---|---|---|
| Chandrasekharpur | Flats, builder floors and houses across named colonies near the Infocity offices | Office-hour traffic on Nandankanan Road; send colony, lane and house number |
| Sailashree Vihar | Plotted houses and flats on a grid of numbered plots | A plot number and one landmark; an early-evening slot before office traffic |
| Jaydev Vihar | Houses and low- to mid-rise flats among hotels and offices | A weekday hour away from the rush at the square |
| Kharavela Nagar | Flats in Unit 3 of the planned capital, close to markets and the main station | Building name and flat number for the guard; a slot outside market hours |
| Laxmisagar | One- to three-bedroom flats, older homes in the lanes, temples and markets | A temple or market landmark; autos make it easy for tutors who do not drive |
| Rasulgarh | Apartments, builder floors and houses around Rasulgarh square, on the road linking Cuttack and Puri | Evening lessons go smoothly with a tutor who lives east of the tracks too |
The zone pages for Patia and Chandrasekharpur and Saheed Nagar and Rasulgarh add landmarks and quieter hours, and our Bhubaneswar home tuition guide compares every zone.
For most children from around Class 3, yes, on one condition: the tutor must see the writing before the lesson, whether as phone photos of the exercise book or a shared file. Online also opens the door to ISC, IGCSE and IB teachers outside your neighbourhood, or outside Bhubaneswar. Sitting together still wins for early readers, for the opening months after a change of medium, and for shy speakers. If your preferred tutor lives far across the city, alternate: a visit one day, a screen the next.
Fewer than four of the five? Say so, and another tutor from your shortlist gives a demo; a later switch is free too. For a fuller list, use the parents' demo checklist.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. An English tutor's rate reflects the class and board, how often they have taught that paper, the journey at your chosen time and the lessons per week, and it is theirs to set. Fees are on the shortlist ahead of any demo; read more in home tuition fees in Bhubaneswar.
Name the class and board; the worry, whether reading, writing, grammar, literature or speaking; the language your child finds easiest; your colony and a landmark; workable days and hours; and a spending limit. Two or three suitable English tutors come back with their fees. Each tutor who signs up passes an ID check before the profile is marked Verified. Looking for other subjects? Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Each English tutor in the city sets a personal fee, shown on your shortlist before the demo.
Yes. We look for tutors who teach from the prescribed English books, practise with the board's own sample papers and can explain in Odia while confidence grows. Formats and dates belong to the Board of Secondary Education and the Council of Higher Secondary Education, so confirm them on their official sites.
In 2026-27, literature is 40 of the 80 board marks; reading is 20; grammar and writing are 10 each, the writing split between a formal letter and an analytical paragraph. Schools award 20 more, including 5 for listening and speaking. Tight, well-planned literature answers matter most.
Yes. A good tutor explains in both languages at first, then works through two-way translation, a subject word bank, ready answer frames and finally English-only lessons from an agreed date. Tell us in your request which language your child reads most comfortably, so we shortlist the right tutor.
Often. Listening and speaking carry marks in CBSE, ICSE and ISC alike, so a spoken recap or a short talk slots easily into a board lesson. Should fluent speaking for interviews or college matter as much as the paper, tell us; we then shortlist tutors with that strength.
All five zones: the north around Patia and Chandrasekharpur, the centre and east around Saheed Nagar and Rasulgarh, the west around Nayapalli and Jaydev Vihar, the south around Old Town and Bapuji Nagar, and the south-west from Khandagiri to Patrapada. Online or mixed lessons cover any gaps.
Generally from around Class 3, provided the tutor receives the child's writing ahead of each lesson, as phone photos or a shared file. Early readers and students just changing medium usually move faster with someone beside them, so a home tutor suits them better at first.
