Tutors who join go through an ID check. Tell us the class, board and your area: we share two or three matched tutors, each with their fee, and the first class is a free demo, at home or online.
Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

The CISCE route asks more of a student than most families expect: more subjects in Class 10, longer written answers, projects that carry real marks, and in ISC a set of rules about subject choice that cannot be undone halfway. In Bhubaneswar, where the state's own boards and CBSE are all close at hand, an ICSE family also has a real decision to make after Class 10. This page explains how the ICSE and ISC papers are built, how a tutor keeps a wide syllabus from slipping, which choices matter at Class 11, and how tutors reach each zone of a city that has no metro. Class 10 maths reflects Abhinandan Tiwary's role in Class 10 CBSE and ICSE maths, science reflects Aaditya Kashyap's role in CBSE and ICSE science, and ISC maths reflects Ajay Vatsyayan's role in IB, IGCSE and ISC maths.
CISCE's regulations sort Class 10 subjects into three groups, and the weighting between the final paper and school assessment differs by group.
| Group | What a student takes | Paper and internal marks | Where tutoring helps |
|---|---|---|---|
| Group I | Compulsory: English, a second language, and History, Civics and Geography | 80 and 20 | Long-answer English and history writing |
| Group II | Two or three from subjects such as Mathematics, Science, Economics, Commercial Studies, a modern or classical language, Environmental Science | 80 and 20 | Maths and the three sciences, usually |
| Group III | One applied subject, such as Computer Applications, Economic or Commercial Applications, Art or Physical Education | 50 and 50 | Keeping the project work on a monthly schedule |
The Group III subject is half internal work, so a student who leaves projects to the last month risks far more than in the other groups. Ask the school which second languages it offers before Class 9 begins.
After each examination season CISCE publishes an Analysis of Pupil Performance for its subjects, setting out where candidates went wrong. A tutor who uses it alongside the specimen papers is teaching to the real marking. Our ICSE and ISC maths guide covers the maths papers in more depth.
With many subjects and long syllabi, the biggest danger in ICSE is forgetting what was taught in the first term. Three habits stop it:
A useful hour usually begins with the student's own homework marked line by line, moves on to one new idea, and ends with a single answer written in exam conditions.
English sits in Group I, so every ICSE student takes it, and in ISC it is the one subject nobody can drop. It is also where marks leak quietly: an essay that wanders, a comprehension answer copied from the passage, grammar that is nearly right. A tutor who reads your child's writing aloud and asks why each paragraph is there will improve it faster than one who hands back a corrected page.
For literature, the useful work is short and regular: one character or theme a week, one long answer written against the clock, and a list of quotations learned by heart. Our English home tutors in Bhubaneswar page explains how sessions are planned.
| Rule | What it means at home |
|---|---|
| English plus three to five electives; six subjects at most | Do not add a sixth subject without a clear reason |
| Subjects locked after 15 September of the Class 11 year; Class 12 subjects must be studied in Class 11 | Test the hardest elective in the first weeks, while a change is still possible |
| Promotion to Class 12: 35% in four subjects, English among them, and 75% attendance | A weak English paper is a risk, not a detail |
| Practicals compulsory where a subject has them; Physics and Engineering Science cannot be combined | Plan practical files from the start of Class 11 |
| Grades 1 to 9; a pass certificate needs four subjects with English, plus Socially Useful Productive Work and Community Service | Keep the SUPW and community service records current |
In ISC Mathematics, a three-hour theory paper is worth 80 marks and project work 20. The ISC maths tutor page explains the course in detail.
A Bhubaneswar student finishing ICSE can continue to ISC, move to CBSE, or join a +2 course under the Council of Higher Secondary Education, Odisha. Each route asks something different of a tutor.
| Route | What changes | Tutor's first-term job |
|---|---|---|
| ISC | Same style of long answers; subject rules above become binding | Settle electives before the September lock; start projects early |
| CBSE | NCERT books; competency-based questions in the board paper | Map ICSE chapters to NCERT and practise case-based questions |
| Council +2 | Biology as separate botany and zoology papers of 35 marks each; maths 80 + 20; physics and chemistry with 30-mark practicals | Learn the council's paper pattern from its syllabus files and practise to it |
Read the guide to choosing a board and stream, our CBSE and Odisha Board (BSE and CHSE) pages for this city, and for entrance plans the JEE and NEET pages.
| Years | Main aim | Typical tutoring |
|---|---|---|
| Classes 6 to 8 | Reading, grammar and number sense strong enough for the jump ahead | English and maths once or twice a week |
| Class 9 | Group II choices settled; science split into three subjects | Maths plus the weakest science |
| Class 10 | All papers revised in rounds; projects closed early; specimen papers timed | Two or three subjects, two sessions each before the board |
| Class 11 | Electives fixed; the hardest new subject secured | Physics or maths most often |
| Class 12 | Theory, practicals and projects together; entrance preparation if planned | One tutor per core subject |

English and history answers can be marked well on a shared document, and that suits online lessons. Maths, physics and chemistry, where the tutor needs to see working as it happens, usually go better at home, at least in Classes 9 and 10. Many families mix the two. The online tutors for Bhubaneswar page sets out how online lessons are arranged.

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. ICSE tutors in Bhubaneswar set their own fee, which you see before the demo. The number of subjects and weekly sessions affects the total more than the board does.
The ICSE Group III subject needs extra care for a Bhubaneswar student because it is split 50 paper and 50 internal. Groups I and II use 80 and 20. A student who leaves projects to the last month risks far more there, so a monthly project calendar checked by parent, student and tutor helps.
For ICSE Class 10 candidates in Bhubaneswar, maths is one three-hour, 80-mark paper with 20 internal marks from assignments. Physics, chemistry and biology are three separate two-hour, 80-mark papers, each with 20 practical marks. A good chemistry mark does not rescue weak biology, so find out early which science needs help.
One Bhubaneswar tutor can teach all three ICSE sciences in Classes 6 to 8, but from Class 9 a specialist is often wiser. Physics, chemistry and biology become separate papers, and a student is often weak in only one. Match a specialist there and keep the others with school or a general science tutor.
Under CISCE regulations, a Bhubaneswar ISC student cannot change subjects after 15 September of the Class 11 year, and every Class 12 subject must be studied in Class 11. ISC takes English plus three to five electives, six subjects at most. Test the hardest elective in the first weeks, while a change is still possible.
ISC promotion to Class 12 requires a Bhubaneswar student to score 35% in four subjects, English among them, with 75% attendance. That makes a weak English paper a real risk. Practicals are compulsory where a subject has them, and SUPW and community service records must stay current for the pass certificate.
Yes, a Bhubaneswar ICSE student can join the Council of Higher Secondary Education's +2 course instead of ISC or CBSE. The council examines biology as botany and zoology papers of 35 marks each, maths as 80 plus 20 internal, and physics and chemistry with 30-mark practicals. A tutor should learn its paper pattern in the first term.
ICSE tutors reach IRC Village, Bapuji Nagar and Khandagiri in Bhubaneswar by two-wheeler, car, or a train with an auto, since no metro runs. IRC Village needs a house number and park landmark; Bapuji Nagar is near the station by Janpath; Khandagiri sits on the city bus network, and weekday evenings beat weekends near the caves.
In Bhubaneswar, ICSE English and history suit online lessons, because long answers can be marked line by line on a shared document. Maths, physics and chemistry usually go better at home in Classes 9 and 10, where the tutor watches working as it happens. Many families mix the two formats.
In an ICSE demo in Bhubaneswar, ask the tutor to mark one of your child's long answers and see whether they comment on structure and keywords. Ask which specimen papers and Analysis of Pupil Performance reports they use, how they keep Group III projects on time, and, for ISC, their view on electives.
