Tutors who join go through an ID check. Tell us the class, board and your area: we share two or three matched tutors, each with their fee, and the first class is a free demo, at home or online.
Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

English means different work for different Gandhinagar children. A Gujarati-medium SSC student may read well but freeze over a formal letter; a CBSE Class 10 student may lose half the literature marks to thin answers; an ICSE or ISC student faces two long English papers instead of one; and some families simply want a child who speaks up in class. So our first questions are about the board, the class, the weak skill and your sector. The answers shape a shortlist of two or three English tutors, each with a fee you can see in advance, and your first session with the one you pick costs nothing.
The subject is called English on every timetable, but the paper behind it changes from board to board, and so does the tutor's job.
| Part | Marks | Content | Common loss |
|---|---|---|---|
| Reading | 20 | Two unseen passages: one discursive, one factual and case-based with data or a chart | Answering from memory instead of from the passage |
| Grammar | 10 | Items from the syllabus grammar list | The same tense or agreement error repeated across the paper |
| Writing | 10 | A formal letter for 5, and 5 for a paragraph analysing a graph, map or chart | A correct format with little to say inside it |
| Literature | 40 | The NCERT readers Footprints without Feet and First Flight | Answers that retell the story without answering the question |
| Internal | 20 | Set by the school, with 5 for listening and speaking | Speaking practice left until the week of the test |
Literature is half the board paper. A child who knows every story but writes short, general answers drops more marks here than anywhere else, so two planned literature answers a week, checked for length and relevance, are worth more than another grammar worksheet.
CISCE treats English as two subjects. For the ICSE exam year 2028, Paper 1 (English Language) and Paper 2 (Literature in English) each last two hours and carry 80 marks, with 20 internal marks on each. Paper 1 asks for a composition of 300 to 350 words, a letter, a notice with an e-mail, an unseen passage of about 500 words with a summary, and functional grammar; its internal marks are split between listening and speaking, 10 each. At ISC, both papers run for three hours and 80 marks, each with 20 for project work, and the composition grows to 400 to 450 words chosen from six options, alongside directed writing and a proposal.
For these students the tutor's most valuable job is timed writing: a full composition under the clock, marked for structure as well as language. Our ICSE Class 10 English papers guide and ISC Class 12 English guide go further.
The Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board, based in Gandhinagar, sets English for the SSC examination in Standard 10 and the HSC examinations in Standard 12. It publishes past question papers and its question-paper designs on gsebeservice.com, and gseb.org links a subject-wise question bank for Standards 9 to 12. We do not describe its English paper here; take the current design from those sites, since the board revises it. A suitable tutor teaches from the board's prescribed book, practises with the board's own papers, and explains in Gujarati only as long as it helps. For SSC and HSC planning across subjects, see our Gujarat Board tutor page for Gandhinagar.
A child changing from Gujarati-medium to English-medium study, or simply catching up with English-medium classmates, needs a planned bridge rather than more homework. A workable bridge has five parts:
Below Class 6, English tuition is about fluent reading and a love of books, and papers can wait. Signs that a child needs help are easy to spot at home: skipped lines, guessed endings to words, or a book closed after a page. Short, frequent work fixes these better than long sessions: phonics for unfamiliar words, a page read aloud with gentle correction, and the story told back in the child's own words, in English. Keep sessions brief and lively, and ask for a tutor who enjoys teaching primary children rather than one used to board classes.
On CBSE, English Core shifts weight between the two senior years. Class 11 marks reading at 26, grammar with creative writing at 23, and literature (Snapshots and Hornbill) at 31; in Class 12, literature rises to 40 from Vistas and Flamingo, reading falls to 22 and creative writing is 18. Internal marks total 20 in both: 5 listening, 5 speaking, 10 for a project. Cambridge candidates need to know which English they are entered for, 0500 or 0510, and IB students prepare unseen analysis, a comparative essay and an individual oral of 15 minutes. Specialists in these courses are fewer, and online lessons often make the match. Our national English home tutor guide covers each course in depth.
Yes. Speaking is not separate from the board: CBSE, ICSE and ISC each set aside marks for listening and speaking, so practice pays twice. Lessons can close with the child explaining the passage aloud, then grow into short prepared talks, role-plays of everyday situations and answering follow-up questions without notes. Tell us if spoken English is the main reason you want a tutor, since we then look for someone with that strength. The spoken English guide for students explains what works.
The Yellow Line serves several sectors, but most tutors still come by two-wheeler or car, and the steadiest match is often someone from your own part of the grid. Our Gandhinagar page lists every locality.
| Locality | Homes | Settle in advance |
|---|---|---|
| Sector 30 | State government quarters in numbered blocks, plus private houses and flats | Block and quarter number; tower and floor in a flat; a slot clear of office-hour traffic on NH-147 |
| Pethapur | An old town with newer bungalow colonies and apartment projects | A landmark for the old lanes; the sign-in rule at a gated colony |
| Sectors 16, 22 and 23 | Government offices in 16; flats and houses in 22 and 23 | The block letter and house number; a late-afternoon or weekend slot |
| Sectors 25 and 26 | Mainly homes in 25; the state industrial estate in 26 | An early-evening slot, after the estate's busiest hours |
| Sectors 2 and 3 | Independent and duplex houses in lettered blocks | Sector, block and plot; avoid office hours on roads towards Infocity |
| Infocity | An IT office district with homes in the sectors and former villages around it | The tutor's name at the apartment gate; Infocity station suits tutors coming by metro |
From around Class 3, online English is practical, as long as the tutor sees written work ahead of each lesson, sent as a photo or in a shared file; it also brings ISC, IGCSE and IB specialists within reach wherever they live. Lessons at home are the better choice for early readers, for the first term after a move to English medium, and for shy speakers. Many families settle on one lesson of each kind a week. The home tutor or online tutor article helps decide.

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Each tutor names a rate. For English it tends to track the class and board, how well the tutor knows that board's paper, the hour and route of the visit and the number of lessons a week. All of it is visible on your shortlist before any demo.
To ask for tutors, tell us your child's class and board, which part of English is the worry (reading, writing, grammar, literature or speaking), whether Gujarati or English comes more easily, your sector and block or locality, the days and hours that suit, and a budget. You get two or three names back, each with a fee. Anyone who joins as a tutor goes through an ID check before the profile is marked Verified. Looking for help in other subjects too? Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Each tutor names their own rate, which for English tends to follow the class and board, the hour and route of the visit and lessons per week. Every fee is on your shortlist before the free demo.
Send your child's class and board, the weak part of English, your Gandhinagar sector or locality and free hours, and we return two or three matched English tutors. Each fee is shown before the first class, the first class is a free demo, and switching tutor later is free. Mention whether Gujarati or English comes more easily to your child.
Yes, an English tutor in Gandhinagar can plan the move from Gujarati medium, explaining in Gujarati at first and letting it fall away. The bridge has five parts: reading aloud each lesson, a two-column word book tested weekly, sentence frames for answers, writing to a set word count, and an agreed date after which the whole lesson runs in English.
Yes, Gandhinagar tutors for GSEB SSC and HSC English should teach from the board's prescribed book and practise with its own past papers. The board posts those papers and its question-paper designs on gsebeservice.com and revises the designs, so the tutor should work from the current version rather than an older guide.
Literature decides most marks in CBSE Class 10 English for Gandhinagar students, carrying 40 of the 80 board marks in 2026-27 from First Flight and Footprints without Feet. Reading is worth 20, grammar 10 and writing 10, split between a formal letter and an analytical paragraph. The school adds 20 internal marks, including 5 for listening and speaking.
ICSE and ISC students in Gandhinagar sit two English papers, English Language and Literature in English, each worth 80 marks with 20 more internal. For ICSE 2028 each paper lasts two hours, and the language paper asks for a 300 to 350-word composition, a letter, a notice with an e-mail, an unseen passage with a summary, and functional grammar. At ISC both papers run three hours.
For Gandhinagar students, CBSE English Core literature rises from 31 marks in Class 11 to 40 in Class 12, using Vistas and Flamingo. Reading falls from 26 to 22, and writing moves from 23, shared with grammar, to 18. Internal marks stay at 20 in both years: 5 for listening, 5 for speaking and 10 for a project.
Before Class 6, English tuition for a Gandhinagar child should centre on fluent reading and enjoying books, and papers can wait. Short, frequent sessions work better: phonics for unfamiliar words, a page read aloud with gentle correction, and the story told back in the child's own words. Watch for skipped lines, guessed word endings or a book closed after a page.
Yes, a home tutor in Gandhinagar can build spoken English alongside board marks, since CBSE, ICSE and ISC all set aside marks for listening and speaking. Lessons can close with the child explaining a passage aloud, then grow into short prepared talks and role-plays. Say in your request if confident speaking is the main aim.
Online English tuition usually works for Gandhinagar children from about Class 3, if written work reaches the tutor as a photo or shared file before each lesson. Home lessons suit early readers, the first term after a move to English medium, and shy speakers. Online also brings ISC, IGCSE and IB specialists within reach, and many families mix one of each a week.
In a free English demo at your Gandhinagar home, check that the tutor reads your child's marked work first. Your child should also write a paragraph or speak for a minute. Ask what the next board English paper will look like, and expect set work with an outline of the coming weeks. If unsure, ask for the next name on your shortlist.
Tell us the class, board and your area. We share two or three matched tutors, and the first class is a free demo.
