Tutors who join go through an ID check. Tell us the class, board and your area: we share two or three matched tutors, each with their fee, and the first class is a free demo, at home or online.
Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

Most Amritsar students are on the Punjab School Education Board or CBSE, according to our city page, and for PSEB families one habit separates useful tuition from wasted hours: working from what the board itself publishes. PSEB sets out, paper by paper, how many questions each section has, how many marks each carries and, in many subjects, how many words an answer should run to. Much tuition still concentrates on maths and science. This page looks wider, at the 2026-27 papers that decide a large share of the total and get less attention: Class 10 English and social science, Class 10 computer science, and in Senior Secondary, accountancy, business studies and General English. It also covers how internal marks are earned, how to use the board's translation questions to settle the medium question, how tutors reach six localities, and what to ask at the demo. Every board fact here was taken from pseb.ac.in for the 2026-27 session; the board revises its documents, so look again in your child's own year.
A legislative enactment of November 1969 set up the Punjab School Education Board, with the task of developing and promoting the state's school education; in 1987 an amendment to its act gave it autonomy. Its offices are at Vidya Bhawan, Phase-8, SAS Nagar (Mohali). It holds public examinations at three levels, Middle, Matriculation and Senior Secondary, and it does more than examine: it prescribes the curriculum and courses of study and produces its own textbooks, which an academic wing of subject experts prepares and revises.
For a family in Amritsar this has a plain consequence. The textbook, the syllabus and the shape of the exam paper all come from one source, and the board publishes the syllabi, a question bank, the structure of every paper and sets of model test papers on its website. A tutor who teaches from those current documents is teaching to the real exam. Relying on an old guidebook risks drilling a pattern that the board has since revised.
English carries 80 marks in the written paper and 20 in internal assessment. The board divides the paper into four sections:
| Section | What it contains | Tuition that matches it |
|---|---|---|
| A: Reading | An unseen passage and an unseen poster, each with four multiple-choice questions | Regular unseen reading, including notices, posters and other short real-world texts |
| B: Literature | Short items, prose questions and poetry from the Main Course Book (a stanza to explain and a central idea), plus questions on the Supplementary Reader | Both books read in full, with answers written to the stated lengths |
| C: Vocabulary | Pairs of words, idioms, proverbs, one-word substitution and correcting a sentence | A small weekly vocabulary set, tested from memory |
| D: Grammar, translation and composition | Ten "do as directed" grammar items; translation from English into Punjabi or Hindi and back; a message or notice, an advertisement or note-making, a paragraph, and a letter (personal, business or official) | One composition format practised every week, rotating through all of them |
The board also fixes the expected length of answers: about 50 to 60 words for a long answer, 20 to 30 for a short one and 5 to 10 for a very short one. It spreads difficulty as 30% easy, 40% moderate and 30% difficult. A student who has only memorised textbook answers will meet the unseen passage, the poster and the vocabulary items cold, so these are where a tutor adds the most.
Social science also has 80 written marks, plus 20 for continuous comprehensive evaluation (CCE). All questions are compulsory and the paper runs in six sections:
Two lessons follow for a tutor. The case and source questions need practice on unfamiliar passages, not only revision of chapters. And map work earns marks steadily if the student practises a few locations every week, rather than leaving the atlas until the last month.
The 2026-27 social science structure breaks its 20 CCE marks into named parts, a useful picture of how school-based marks work on the board:
| Part | Marks | What a tutor can do |
|---|---|---|
| Periodic or unit tests through the session | 5 | Prepare each test as it comes, not only the final paper |
| One curriculum-based project or activity | 5 | Help choose and plan it; the student makes and writes it |
| The school's pre-board examination | 5 | Treat it as a full rehearsal, with a timed paper beforehand |
| Class participation and regular work: homework, notebook, workbook | 3 | Check the notebook and workbook are complete |
| Book bank: textbooks deposited on time as the school directs | 2 | A reminder on the family calendar |
None of these marks need a tutor to do anything clever. They need someone to notice, every week, that a notebook is behind or a project has not started.
Several 2026-27 structures give word ranges for each kind of answer. Students who write a page for a two-mark answer run out of time later; students who write two lines for a six-mark answer leave marks on the table.
| Paper | Shorter answers | Longer answers |
|---|---|---|
| Class 10 English | 5 to 10 words; 20 to 30 words | 50 to 60 words |
| Class 10 social science | 30 to 50 words (three marks) | 80 to 100 words (five marks) |
| Class 12 business studies | 1 to 15 words; 40 to 60 words (two marks) | 80 to 100 words (four marks); 120 to 150 words (six marks) |
| Class 12 accountancy (theory questions) | 40 to 60 words (two marks) | 80 to 100 words (four marks); 120 to 150 words (six marks) |
| Class 12 General English | 20 to 30 words | 100 to 120 words |
A simple routine works: the tutor sets an answer, the student writes it, and both count the words before marking the content. After a few weeks most students feel the right length without counting.
Computer science is weighted differently from the core papers: 50 marks for theory, 45 for practical work and 5 for internal assessment. The theory paper has 13 compulsory questions in four sections, with internal choice in some of the longer ones. Because practical work carries nearly half the subject, regular time at a computer matters more here than written revision, and a tutor's role is mainly to keep the theory sections tidy and the practical file up to date.
Accountancy carries 80 theory marks, 15 practical and 5 internal. Every student answers Section A and then chooses one of Sections B and C, which come from different parts of the syllabus, so the choice should be settled early in the year rather than in the exam hall. There are nine questions in all. Numerical questions have no word, line or page limit, and a non-programmable simple calculator is allowed. Theory answers do have lengths, as the table above shows, and the paper includes case-based multiple-choice questions on short passages.
Business studies carries 80 marks in the paper and 20 internal, with five sections, all compulsory: twenty one-mark items, ten two-mark answers, four four-mark answers with internal choice, two source or case passages with six multiple-choice questions each, and two six-mark answers. Business studies rewards students who can apply a management principle to a short situation, so case practice should start early.
Our national accountancy tutor and economics tutor pages cover the subjects across boards, and the stream choice guide helps before Class 11.
General English again carries 80 written and 20 internal marks. Beyond reading and literature, the 2026-27 structure includes a precis, letter writing, a choice between email writing and explaining a newspaper headline, translation and grammar. Long answers are expected at about 100 to 120 words, and difficulty is spread 30% easy, 40% moderate and 30% difficult. A science or commerce student can lift the total noticeably here with steady weekly writing. See English home tutors in Amritsar and the national English tutor page.
Amritsar students learn in Punjabi, Hindi or English, and many homes mix them. The Class 10 English paper itself asks for translation from English into Punjabi or Hindi and back again, so the board expects students to move between languages. Use that in tuition: a tutor can explain a hard idea in the language your child thinks in, then make sure the written answer uses the terms printed in your child's own textbook, in the language of the paper. When you send a request, give board, class and medium together, so we can look for a tutor who teaches comfortably in that medium.
Changing board in either direction means a new textbook style. Families weighing a switch can compare the Amritsar pages for CBSE tutors and ICSE and ISC tutors, then read how to pick a board and stream. For Senior Secondary science and entrance preparation, see JEE and NEET home tutors in Amritsar, and our maths and science pages.
The tutor will make this trip every week for a year or more, so it has to be simple. Our search starts in your own locality, moves out to your zone and the wider city, and turns to online teachers last.
Every locality is on the Amritsar home tutors page, and our Amritsar home tuition guide explains the timing that suits each zone. Where no suitable tutor lives close by, a mix of one home visit and one online class each week is often steadier; see online tutors for Amritsar.
Every request brings a shortlist of two or three matched tutors, with the fee of each visible in advance. The opening lesson costs nothing, and moving to a different tutor later costs nothing either. Tutors who join go through an ID check; the Verified badge appears only after our team has reviewed the ID (see how we check tutors). The demo class checklist adds a few more points to raise.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors decide their own rates. What pushes a rate up or down is set out in the pricing guide and in our Amritsar fees post.
To start, tell us the class, any Senior Secondary stream, the subjects and medium, your colony plus a landmark, and which days work. Then book the free demo, or look through tutor profiles beforehand. The board's site also carries notices such as board scholarships for students who passed the Class 8, 10 and 12 examinations, so check pseb.ac.in for anything that applies to your child. If you teach PSEB subjects, see tuition jobs in Amritsar or Punjab tuition jobs.
To find a Punjab board tutor in Amritsar, send the class, any Senior Secondary stream, the subjects, the textbook medium and your colony with a landmark. We look nearby first, then across your zone and the city, then online, and suggest two or three matched tutors, each fee shown before the first class. The first class is a free demo, and switching tutor later is free.
For Amritsar students, the 2026-27 PSEB Class 10 English paper carries 80 written marks plus 20 internal, in four sections. Reading has an unseen passage and an unseen poster; literature draws on the Main Course Book and Supplementary Reader; vocabulary covers idioms and one-word substitution; and the last section has grammar, translation, a notice or message, a paragraph and a letter.
The PSEB Class 10 social science paper an Amritsar student sits has six compulsory sections worth 80 marks, plus 20 for CCE. They cover multiple-choice and objective items, three-mark answers of 30 to 50 words, five-mark answers of 80 to 100 words, two case or source questions, and map work on India and a historical map of Punjab.
In PSEB Class 10 social science, Amritsar students earn the 20 internal marks through five named parts in the 2026-27 structure. Periodic tests carry 5, one project or activity 5, the school pre-board 5, class participation with homework and notebooks 3, and returning textbooks to the book bank on time 2. A tutor tracks these weekly; the student does the work.
Yes, many PSEB 2026-27 paper structures give Amritsar students word ranges for each kind of answer. Class 10 English long answers run about 50 to 60 words, social science five-mark answers 80 to 100, and Class 12 business studies six-mark answers 120 to 150. A tutor sets an answer, the student writes it, and both count words before marking.
For Amritsar commerce students, PSEB Class 12 accountancy carries 80 theory, 15 practical and 5 internal marks, and business studies 80 written plus 20 internal. In accountancy, everyone answers Section A and then one of Sections B and C, and a simple non-programmable calculator is allowed. Business studies has five compulsory sections, including case passages with multiple-choice questions.
PSEB Class 10 computer science gives Amritsar students 50 theory marks, 45 for practical work and 5 internal, so practical work carries nearly half the subject. The theory paper has 13 compulsory questions in four sections, with internal choice in some longer ones. Regular time at a computer counts most, and a tutor keeps the theory tidy and the practical file current.
Punjab board tuition in Amritsar should follow the medium of your child's textbooks and exam paper, whether Punjabi, Hindi or English. The Class 10 English paper itself asks for translation between English and Punjabi or Hindi, so moving between languages is expected. A tutor may explain in any language your child follows, but written answers should use the textbook's own terms.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors decide their own rates, and every rate is shown to you before you book a free demo. Our pricing guide and Amritsar fees post set out what moves a rate up or down.
Home tuition suits most PSEB students in Amritsar when a tutor lives close enough to make the weekly trip simple. Our search starts in your own locality, moves out to your zone and the wider city, and turns to online teachers last. Where no suitable tutor lives nearby, one home visit and one online class each week is often steadier.
Neither PSEB nor CBSE suits every Amritsar student; the choice depends on the medium your child thinks in, the stream planned and any entrance exam. Changing board in either direction means a new textbook style. Compare our Amritsar CBSE and ICSE pages, and see our CBSE, ICSE, IB or IGCSE guide before deciding.
