Tutors who join go through an ID check. Tell us the class, board and your area: we share two or three matched tutors, each with their fee, and the first class is a free demo, at home or online.
Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

Amritsar students are mostly on the Punjab School Education Board or CBSE, with others on CISCE and a small group on IB or IGCSE, according to our city page. For CBSE families, the questions are practical ones. What changed in Classes 9 and 10 for 2026-27? How are senior papers split between theory and practical work? Where does a tutor actually help, and where does tuition just repeat the school day? This page answers those, sets out what a CBSE week with a tutor can look like, lists how tutors reach six localities across the city, and ends with questions for the free demo. The maths notes reflect Abhinandan Tiwary's role teaching Class 10 CBSE and ICSE maths, and the science notes Aaditya Kashyap's role teaching CBSE and ICSE science.
The Punjab School Education Board prescribes its own curriculum and textbooks and publishes its syllabi, paper structures and model test papers on pseb.ac.in. CBSE builds its papers on the NCERT books and puts sample papers and marking schemes on cbseacademic.nic.in each session. Content overlaps a good deal between the two; the style of question and the way marks are given do not. A tutor whose experience is mostly with Punjab board students will know the chapters but may not yet drill CBSE's application questions or mark to its stepwise schemes. Ask about it directly.
A child changing board in either direction should spend the first few weeks on the new board's textbook wording and answer format before anything else. Our Punjab board tutors in Amritsar page explains the state board in detail.
| Point | What it means at home |
|---|---|
| Major subjects carry 80 marks for the paper and 20 internal | School tests, notebooks and projects feed a fifth of the marks; they deserve attention |
| A subject needs 33% to pass at Class 10 | For a struggling child, secure the pass first, then build |
| Around half of each paper is competency-based | Cases, sources, data and real situations, not only textbook recall |
| Class 9: one common maths and one common science paper, with an optional Advanced paper worth 25 marks in either or both | Advanced marks stay outside the aggregate; a score of 50% or more is noted. Choose it only where the subject already feels easy |
| Basic and Standard maths are being phased out | The 2026-27 Class 10 batch is the last to complete the older split |
| Two Class 10 board exams | The first is compulsory; a student who passes may sit the second to improve up to three of science, maths, social science and the languages |
| The third language is assessed by the school | No board paper, but school marks still count |
Treat the first Class 10 exam as the main event. The second is for improvement, not a back-up plan for weak preparation. Our Class 10 maths preparation guide and the Class 10 board-year plan, written for Gurugram, give a month-by-month shape that works in any city.
| Subject (code) | Theory | Other part |
|---|---|---|
| Physics (042), Chemistry (043), Biology (044) | 70 | 30 practical |
| Mathematics (041) or Applied Mathematics (241), only one | 80 | 20 internal |
| Accountancy (055), Economics (030), Business Studies (054) | 80 | 20 internal |
In the three sciences, practical work carries close to a third of the marks, so the practical file and the experiments should be kept up through the year rather than rushed at the end. The paper design for each subject comes with the sample paper every session; a tutor should be working from the current one. For the board year, see our guides to Class 12 physics, organic and inorganic chemistry and calculus and algebra.
| Class | Typical sticking point | A tutor's most useful work |
|---|---|---|
| 6 to 8 | Fractions, negative numbers, reading a science paragraph closely | Repair the base; insist on written working from the start |
| 9 | Algebra and science both widen at once | Short chapter tests; a sensible call on the Advanced paper |
| 10 | Application questions and neat presentation | Sample papers marked to the official scheme |
| 11 | The jump in physics, chemistry and maths | A secure base before the board year begins |
| 12 | Full-syllabus revision competing with entrance preparation | One revision list that serves the board and the entrance |
"Sudden" trouble in Class 9 usually traces back to fractions and early algebra. At that age a tutor is worth more for repair than for racing ahead of the school.
A competency question gives the student something unfamiliar, such as a short passage, a table of readings or an everyday situation, and asks them to apply a concept from the chapter to it. Rote answers do not help. A good session therefore runs in three steps: the idea from the NCERT text, an exemplar or sample-paper question on the same idea, then a fresh situation the student has not seen, answered in writing. In maths that might be reading a word problem into an equation; in science, explaining an observation using the chapter's principle with a labelled diagram. Ask the tutor to keep a monthly one-page note of chapters done, test marks and the errors that keep returning.
Careful NCERT work serves both the board and the national entrance tests. The usual gap in entrance students is writing: after months of objective practice, they lose marks on board answers that skip steps, units or diagrams. A CBSE tutor working alongside entrance preparation should keep a list of NCERT chapters that were covered quickly, return to them with board-style questions, set at least one fully written answer each session, and keep an eye on the practical file. For the entrance side, see JEE home tutors in Amritsar and NEET home tutors in Amritsar.
Many Amritsar homes speak Punjabi while school books are in English or Hindi, as our city page notes. That is not a problem as long as the rule is clear: the tutor can explain in whichever language makes the idea click, but the written answer is practised in the language of the exam paper, with the terms the textbook uses. Kept every week, that small rule protects marks in the board paper. Say which languages suit your child when you send a request.
We search for tutors in your own locality first, then your zone, then across Amritsar, and online after that. Six examples from three zones:
| Locality | Homes and access | Slot that tends to hold |
|---|---|---|
| Green Field | Plotted colonies in separate phases off Majitha Road; give the phase and house number | Weekday afternoons |
| Verka | Independent houses on the northern edge along Batala Road; the tutor comes to the door | A fixed afternoon or early-evening time |
| Putlighar | Houses and floors above shops in the lanes behind the GT Road; mention the entrance and floor | A time agreed with the nearby railway crossing in mind |
| New Amritsar | A planned area off the GT Road; houses at the doorstep, flats need block and floor | Afternoons, ahead of the evening rush |
| East Mohan Nagar | Houses and builder floors; say whether stairs are shared | A weekday afternoon or a weekend morning |
| Sultanwind | Street-level entrances; narrow lanes in the older core | Afternoons, before roads into the centre fill |
The zone pages for Majitha Road and Batala Road, West Amritsar and South-East Amritsar carry more detail, and every locality is listed on the Amritsar home tutors page. If no tutor lives within easy reach, one home visit plus one online class a week is often steadier; see online tutors for Amritsar.

For Amritsar CBSE students in 2026-27, Class 9 has one common maths and one common science paper, with an optional 25-mark Advanced paper kept outside the aggregate. Basic and Standard maths are being phased out. Class 10 has two board exams: the first is compulsory, and the second lets a student who passed improve up to three subjects.
For Amritsar CBSE Class 12 students, physics, chemistry and biology carry 70 theory and 30 practical marks. Mathematics or Applied Mathematics, of which a student takes only one, plus accountancy, economics and business studies carry 80 theory and 20 internal. Since practicals carry close to a third in the sciences, keep the file going through the year.
Not always; a tutor mostly teaching Punjab board students in Amritsar knows the chapters but may not drill CBSE's application questions or mark to its stepwise schemes. CBSE builds papers on NCERT books with sample papers on cbseacademic.nic.in, while PSEB writes its own textbooks. Ask the tutor directly how they mark to CBSE's official schemes.
Yes, an Amritsar CBSE tutor can explain in Punjabi or Hindi if that makes the idea click. The rule that protects board marks is simple: written answers are practised in the language of the exam paper, using the textbook's own terms. Tell us which languages suit your child when you send a request.
A CBSE tutor in Amritsar protects board marks by revisiting NCERT chapters covered quickly, setting at least one fully written answer each session and checking the practical file. Entrance students tend to lose board marks by skipping steps, units and diagrams after months of objective practice. Our JEE and NEET pages for Amritsar cover the entrance side.
An Amritsar CBSE student should practise competency questions in three steps: the idea from the NCERT text, a sample-paper question on it, then a fresh situation answered in writing. Around half of each Class 9 and 10 paper is competency-based. Ask the tutor for a monthly one-page note of chapters, test marks and repeating errors.

Home CBSE tuition suits most Amritsar children when a tutor lives within easy reach of your locality. If none does, one home visit plus one online class a week is often steadier than an unreliable route. Ask at the demo which day and route the tutor will keep in winter and in summer.
At a CBSE demo in Amritsar, ask the tutor to show a competency question from this year's sample paper and how they would teach it. Bring a school test for them to mark against the official scheme, ask whether your child should take the Class 9 Advanced paper, and check they guide practical files without doing them.
