What home tuition costs in Amritsar

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.

Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

Maths home tutor in Amritsar: settle the board, the address and the weekly hour first

Maths tuition in Amritsar goes well when three things are fixed before anyone opens a textbook. The first is the board: a Punjab School Education Board student, a CBSE student and an ICSE student may all be "in Class 9", yet they sit papers built by different examiners. The second is the address, because a tutor who has to cross the Lawrence Road market at shopping time will arrive late more often than one who lives in the next avenue. The third is the hour, which decides whether lessons stay regular through a school term. Give NXTutors those three details and we send back two or three maths tutors who fit them, each with a fee you can read before the free demo class.

Who is responsible for the maths advice on this page?

Ajay Vatsyayan answers for the IB, IGCSE and ISC maths sections. Abhinandan Tiwary answers for the Class 10 CBSE and ICSE maths sections. The local notes on Amritsar's avenues and colonies, and the guidance on the Punjab board, come from the NXTutors team's research for this city.

Your child is on the Punjab board: what does PSEB itself give a maths tutor?

Quite a lot. The Punjab School Education Board was set up by a legislative enactment in November 1969, and a 1987 amendment to its Act made it autonomous. It holds public examinations at three levels (Middle, Matriculation and Senior Secondary), and an academic wing of subject experts prepares and revises its syllabuses and textbooks. Its office is at Vidya Bhawan, Phase-8, SAS Nagar (Mohali).

The useful part for families is what the board puts on pseb.ac.in: the syllabi, a question bank, the structure of each question paper and model test papers. We do not reproduce any PSEB maths pattern here, because the board's own page is the version to trust. What we ask of a tutor for a PSEB student is this:

  1. Plan the term from the board's syllabus, chapter by chapter, using the PSEB textbook your child carries rather than a book written for another board.
  2. Drill from the question bank so that every chapter has been tried in the board's own wording before a school test.
  3. Practise against the published paper structure and sit at least one model test paper, timed, before each exam season.
  4. Explain in the language of the answer sheet, whether that is Punjabi, Hindi or English, using the textbook's terms so the working reads correctly to the examiner.

For the board across all subjects, see Punjab board tutors in Amritsar.

Which book and papers should the tutor plan from, board by board?

Maths in Amritsar homes by board: the material a tutor should plan from and the first thing to confirm with the school
BoardPlan fromConfirm first
PSEBThe board's textbook, syllabus, question bank and model test papersMedium of the answer sheet
CBSENCERT chapters and the board's own sample papersStandard or Basic in Class 10
ICSE / ISCThe school's chosen texts and CISCE specimen papersExam year, since ISC maths has a new layout
IB DiplomaAA or AI guide and the school's internal deadlinesSL or HL, and the exploration timeline
Cambridge IGCSEThe syllabus and past papers for the tier enteredCore or Extended

A tutor can teach well and still aim at the wrong paper, so settle the last column first.

CBSE Class 10 maths: where are the 80 board marks?

CBSE spreads the board paper across seven units, and the 2026-27 design matches last session's. Grouping the units by weight gives a simple way to divide the year:

CBSE Class 10 maths units grouped by board marks, with the share of tuition time each group deserves
Weight groupUnits and marksShare of tuition time
HeavyAlgebra 20; Geometry 15The core of the first term, revisited every month
MiddleTrigonometry 12; Statistics and Probability 11; Mensuration 10Steady weekly practice from mid-year
ShortReal Numbers 6; Coordinate Geometry 6Quick, accurate drill; these marks should never be dropped

The paper itself has five sections. Section A holds twenty one-mark questions (eighteen multiple-choice and two assertion–reason); B has five two-mark questions; C has six three-mark questions; D has four five-mark questions; and E has three four-mark case studies. Calculators are not allowed, and π is taken as 22/7 unless a question says otherwise.

Standard and Basic share chapters but differ in demand: roughly 54% of the Standard paper tests recall and understanding, against about 75% of Basic. If maths in Class 11 is possible, Standard keeps that door open. CBSE now runs a compulsory main Class 10 exam with an optional second sitting in which a student can try to improve up to three subjects, maths included; 2027 dates are not yet on cbse.gov.in. Our Class 10 maths preparation guide goes chapter by chapter, the board-year planner lays out the months, and the Class 10 maths tutor page explains how we match for that year.

Class 12 board maths and JEE Main in the same week

The CBSE Class 12 maths paper has 38 compulsory questions for 80 marks, and calculus alone carries 35 of them. That weight is the reason a home tutor should keep calculus in every week of the session rather than saving it for revision. JEE Main 2026 Paper 1 set 75 questions for 300 marks, 25 of them in maths: twenty with options and five with a numerical answer, scored at plus four for a correct response and minus one for a wrong one. NTA publishes each year's pattern on jeemain.nta.nic.in.

When an Amritsar student also attends a coaching batch, one tutor can usually serve both aims if the week is split clearly: one visit for the coaching sheet's unsolved problems, one for a full board-style answer written and marked before the tutor leaves. Read our Class 12 calculus and algebra guide and JEE maths topic by topic; the Class 12 maths tutor page and JEE home tutors in Amritsar cover the wider plan.

ICSE, ISC, IB and IGCSE maths: what changes for the tutor?

ICSE Class 10
An 80-mark written paper plus 20 internal marks; examiners credit working that is set out step by step. Our ICSE Class 10 maths guide shows how.
ISC Class 12
For 2027 and 2028, one 80-mark paper of seven units with no choice between Sections B and C, so vectors, 3-D geometry, linear programming and probability are compulsory; calculus counts for 35. Two projects of 10 marks each make up the other 20. Details are in our ICSE and ISC maths guide.
IB Diploma
Analysis and Approaches leans on algebra, calculus and proof, with one paper taken without a calculator; Applications and Interpretation leans on modelling and statistics with a graphic display calculator throughout. SL papers weigh 40% and 40%; HL papers 30%, 30% and 20%; the exploration, written by the student alone, supplies the last 20%. See IB maths AA or AI.
Cambridge IGCSE
Core's highest available grade is C; Extended runs from A* to G. Agree the tier with the school early, and if a change of board is on the table, read moving from CBSE to IB or IGCSE.

Teachers for these courses are fewer than PSEB or CBSE teachers in any city, so name the course in your first message. If no specialist can come to the house, an online specialist can handle the course content while a nearby tutor checks written practice.

Which habits cost maths marks, and what does a home tutor do about each?

Across boards, lost marks fall into a few repeating patterns. Sitting beside the student, a tutor can spot which pattern is at work and set the matching remedy:

Common ways students lose maths marks on any board, how a tutor spots each, and the remedy to set at home
HabitHow it showsRemedy at home
Copying slipsA correct method applied to a number written down wronglyUnderline the given data before starting; re-read it once at the end
Sign and bracket errorsAlgebra that goes wrong in the second or third lineExpand one step per line until the error rate falls
Skipped reasonsGeometry proofs with statements but no justificationsA reason column beside every statement, every time
Misread questionsA neat answer to a question that was not askedCircle what is being asked before writing anything
Unchecked answersAn impossible probability, a negative lengthA one-line sense check after each long answer

How should you prepare for a tutor's visits in six Amritsar localities?

Maths tutors in Amritsar usually travel by two-wheeler or auto-rickshaw. These six localities sit in the central zone, the northern avenues and the Majitha Road belt; every area's tutors are on our Amritsar home tuition page.

Six Amritsar localities: typical homes, what to send the maths tutor before the first visit, and a slot that tends to hold
LocalityTypical homesSend before the first visitSlot that tends to hold
Lawrence RoadHouses, flats and plots in the pockets behind a market streetWhere a two-wheeler can be left; block and floor for a flatAfternoon, before the evening shoppers
Green AvenueA plotted colony of houses just off the central market roadsHouse number and a nearby landmarkWeekday afternoons; evenings fixed in advance
Rani Ka BaghAn older neighbourhood beside the district court complexClear directions to the entrance, above all for an upper floorLate afternoon or evening, after court-side traffic
Ranjit AvenueImprovement Trust blocks: houses, builder floors and flatsBlock letter, house number and the block market as a landmarkLate afternoon, when office visitors have thinned
Kashmir AvenueHouses, flats and plots on quiet colony roadsBuilding name and floor for a flatWeekday afternoons, before the roads to the centre slow
Majitha RoadPlots, houses and newer apartments in colonies along a long roadColony, lane and a main-road landmark; the tutor's name for the guardAfternoon or a fixed early-evening slot

Zone pages for Central Amritsar, North Amritsar and Majitha Road and Batala Road carry more local tips, and our Amritsar home tuition guide covers every zone of the city.

What should you notice during the free demo?

Ask the tutor to teach the chapter your child is doing at school this week, not a topic of the tutor's choosing. Then watch for four things:

  • An attempt before an explanation. The tutor lets your child try a question first and reads the working.
  • A named error. The tutor says whether a mistake came from arithmetic, from misreading, or from a missing idea.
  • Working in the board's shape. Lines are laid out as a PSEB, CBSE or CISCE examiner expects to see them.
  • A clear next step. You know what homework is set and when it will be checked.

If the fit is wrong, tell us; the next tutor on the shortlist gives a demo, and switching tutors later is free as well. Our demo class checklist lists more questions. Home lessons suit younger children and geometry, where a tutor sees the pen move; online lessons suit a specialist on the far side of the city. The trade-offs are in home tutor or online tutor.

What does a maths home tutor in Amritsar charge?

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Each tutor sets their own fee, and the class, the board, the tutor's experience with that paper, the journey to your locality at your chosen hour and the number of lessons a week all shape it. Every fee is visible on the shortlist before you book a demo. Our guide to home tuition fees in Amritsar lists questions to ask.

How do you ask for a maths shortlist?

Send us the class; the board in full (PSEB, CBSE Standard or Basic, ICSE, ISC, IB or IGCSE); your locality with a landmark; the days and hours you can offer; and a budget. Two or three maths tutors come back with their fees, and you choose one for the free demo. Tutors who join go through an ID check; the Verified badge appears only after our team has reviewed the ID (how we check tutors). If no suitable tutor can reach your locality at that hour, we suggest online or part-online lessons. NXTutors is based in Sector 66, Gurugram, and teaches online across India. The national maths home tutor page explains our method, and Amritsar's science and physics pages cover the neighbouring subjects.

Maths Home Tutor in Amritsar: common questions

What hourly fee does a maths tutor visiting an Amritsar home usually ask?

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Each Amritsar maths tutor sets their own fee; class, board, experience with that paper, the journey at your hour and lessons a week shape it. Every fee is on the shortlist before you book a demo.

Which three details should we fix before asking for maths tutors in Amritsar?

Before asking for maths tutors in Amritsar, fix the board in full, your locality with a landmark, and the weekly hour, plus a budget. We send two or three matched tutors, each fee shown before the first class. The first class is a free demo, and switching tutor later is free. If nobody can reach you at that hour, we suggest part-online lessons.

What should a maths tutor plan from for a PSEB student in Amritsar?

A maths tutor for a PSEB student in Amritsar should plan from the Punjab School Education Board's own textbook and syllabus, chapter by chapter. Drill from the board's question bank, practise against the published paper structure, and sit a timed model test paper before each exam season, explaining in the answer sheet's language, whether Punjabi, Hindi or English.

How should an Amritsar Class 10 student divide time across the CBSE maths units?

An Amritsar CBSE Class 10 student should give most time to algebra, worth 20 of 80 board marks, and geometry, worth 15, revisited monthly. Trigonometry 12, statistics and probability 11 and mensuration 10 need steady weekly practice from mid-year. Real numbers and coordinate geometry carry 6 each and should never be dropped.

If Class 11 maths is possible, is CBSE Standard the safer pick for an Amritsar Class 10 student?

Yes, an Amritsar Class 10 student should sit CBSE Standard maths if maths in Class 11 is possible, since Standard keeps that door open. Both share chapters, but about 75% of the Basic paper tests recall and understanding against roughly 54% of Standard. Confirm with the school which one your child is entered for.

What does the CBSE Class 10 maths paper look like section by section?

The CBSE Class 10 maths paper an Amritsar student sits has five sections, A to E, and no calculators. A holds twenty one-mark questions, B five two-mark, C six three-mark, D four five-mark and E three four-mark case studies. Pi is taken as 22/7 unless a question says otherwise.

My Amritsar child is in a JEE batch; can the home maths tutor still cover the Class 12 board paper?

Yes, a home maths tutor in Amritsar can usually serve the Class 12 board and a JEE batch if the week is split clearly. One visit clears the coaching sheet's unsolved problems; another has a full board-style answer written and marked. Calculus carries 35 of the 80 board marks, so it belongs in every week.

With no choice left between Sections B and C, which ISC Class 12 maths units can an Amritsar student no longer skip?

An Amritsar ISC student sitting in 2027 or 2028 can no longer skip vectors, 3-D geometry, linear programming or probability. The 80-mark paper of seven units offers no choice between Sections B and C. Calculus counts for 35 of those marks. Two projects of 10 marks each make up the other 20.

Which careless habits cost Amritsar students maths marks, and how does a tutor fix them?

Amritsar maths students across boards mostly lose marks to copying slips, sign and bracket errors, skipped reasons in proofs, misread questions and unchecked answers. A home tutor sets matching remedies: underline the given data, expand one step per line, keep a reason column, circle what is asked, and add a one-line sense check.

Does maths tuition work better at home or online for an Amritsar family?

For an Amritsar family, home maths lessons suit younger children and geometry, where a tutor sees the pen move. Online suits a specialist on the far side of the city, and for IB, IGCSE or ISC an online specialist can teach the course while a nearby tutor checks written practice. Name the course in your first message.

What should we send a maths tutor before visiting Kashmir Avenue or Lawrence Road?

Before a maths tutor visits Kashmir Avenue in Amritsar, send the building name and floor for a flat, and pick a weekday afternoon before the roads to the centre slow. On Lawrence Road, say where a two-wheeler can be left and give block and floor for a flat, with an afternoon slot before the evening shoppers.
