English tutor jobs in Amritsar

How do you show an Amritsar parent, in one short visit, that you can fix their child's English? Start by finding out which kind of 'weak in English' you are dealing with. One child reads slowly and runs out of time on the unseen passage. Another understands every chapter but writes literature answers that stop after three lines. A third writes well and goes quiet when asked a question aloud. In many homes here, Punjabi or Hindi is the everyday language and English belongs to the exam hall, so these gaps are common, and they are fixable by a tutor who works on one at a time.

Who asks for english tutors in Amritsar

Literature answers in Class 10 are the commonest pressure point. In CBSE English Language and Literature, literature from First Flight and Footprints without Feet carries 40 of the 80 board marks, as much as reading, grammar and writing together. Reading is 20, from a discursive passage and a case-based passage with a chart or data; grammar is 10; writing is a formal letter and an analytical paragraph on a chart, map or graph, 5 each. The school adds 20 internal marks, 5 of them for listening and speaking. A child who can retell a chapter well in Punjabi or Hindi but writes thin English answers has a lot to gain from two planned literature answers a week, kept to the word limit and marked.

The Punjab School Education Board sets English from its own prescribed textbooks at the Middle, Matriculation and Senior Secondary levels, and its site publishes the syllabi, a question bank, the structure of question papers and model test papers. A tutor for a PSEB student should teach from the board's book, practise from the question bank, write at least one model test paper under exam conditions before each board exam, and use Punjabi or Hindi only where it helps, moving steadily into English. In Classes 11 and 12, CBSE English Core gives Class 11 reading 26, grammar and creative writing 23 and literature 31 from Hornbill and Snapshots, and Class 12 reading 22, creative writing 18 and literature 40 from Flamingo and Vistas, with 20 internal marks for listening, speaking and a project.

ICSE and ISC bring heavier writing. ICSE examines English Language and Literature in English as two papers of 80 marks with 20 internal each; the language paper asks for a 300 to 350 word composition, a letter, a notice with an e-mail, an unseen passage with a summary and grammar, and listening and speaking carry 10 internal marks each. ISC sets two 80-mark papers with 20 project marks each, including a 400 to 450 word composition from six types, directed writing and a proposal. A small number of IGCSE (First Language 0500 or Second Language 0510 and 0511) and IB Language A students also ask, often online. Younger children learning to read and teenagers wanting speaking confidence round out the demand.

Where in Amritsar the work is

English lessons need nothing more than books and a quiet table, so the question is purely about the hour. Central Amritsar's Green Avenue and Dayanand Nagar are calm inside, but daytime parking near Lawrence Road and Hall Bazaar is scarce, and weekday mornings near the court complex at Rani Ka Bagh are slow. North Amritsar's avenues, Ranjit, Basant and Kashmir, lie close together on lettered blocks, with some Ranjit Avenue buildings keeping a gate register. The Majitha Road and Batala Road zone is long, and the 88 Feet Road links the two roads without entering the centre.

West Amritsar's three areas sit on different stretches: Putlighar on the GT Road near the main station, with a railway crossing that closes several times a day, Chheharta further west, and Guru Amar Dass Avenue on Ajnala Road. In South-East Amritsar, New Amritsar's Trust flats need a block and floor, while East Mohan Nagar, Tarn Taran Road and Sultanwind mostly open at street level. Weekday afternoons there avoid evening traffic towards the centre. Online English lessons widen your reach without any of these concerns.

What families in Amritsar expect

  • A clear diagnosis of the weak skill, reading, writing formats, grammar in use or speaking, before planning lessons.
  • Literature answers planned in points, grounded in the text and kept to the word limit.
  • Grammar corrected from the child's own writing, one pattern at a time, as well as from worksheets.
  • For PSEB students, practice from the board's book, question bank and model test papers.
  • For ICSE and ISC, long compositions set and marked regularly with clear comments.
  • Comfort explaining in Punjabi or Hindi where needed, while moving the student into English.
  • A spoken summary at the end of lessons for students who need speaking confidence.
  • Gentle phonics and read-aloud routines for younger children.

How to get picked

Make your profile answer the parent's real question: which gap do you fix? A line such as 'Class 10 literature answers and letters for CBSE and PSEB' or 'ICSE compositions and unseen passages' does more than a list of qualifications. Add the languages you can explain in and the localities you can reach every week, perhaps Green Avenue, Dayanand Nagar and Lawrence Road, or New Amritsar and East Mohan Nagar. Turn on online lessons for families across town.

In the free demo, test three things quickly: a short unseen passage with a time limit, one literature answer from the current chapter and a two-minute conversation. Mark them while the parent watches and name the gap you found. Then lay out the routine: for example, one timed passage and one writing task a week, with grammar fixed from the child's own sentences. A tutor who shows the problem and the plan in the same class is easy to choose.

Questions from tutors

What kind of English help do Amritsar families ask for?

Mostly board English: literature answers, writing formats, grammar and unseen passages for PSEB, CBSE and ICSE students. Spoken English and early reading for young children also come up. Say which you teach.

Yes, where it helps a student understand. Many tutors explain a point in the home language and then practise it in English, moving steadily towards English only. Mention your languages on your profile.

Where do I find the PSEB English paper structure?

On pseb.ac.in, which publishes the syllabi, a question bank, the structure of question papers and model test papers. Teach from the board's prescribed book and check patterns there.

Are there ICSE and ISC English students in Amritsar?

CISCE schools are present, so these requests do arrive, and families value tutors who can mark long compositions well. Name the papers you have taught.

Can I teach English online from Amritsar?
