Tutors who join go through an ID check. Tell us the class, board and your area: we share two or three matched tutors, each with their fee, and the first class is a free demo, at home or online.
Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

Kochi's students, the city hub says, divide mainly between the Kerala State Board and the two national boards, CBSE and CISCE. For a CBSE family, that means looking for a tutor who teaches from NCERT and this year's sample papers rather than state textbooks, and who can reach you along the Blue Line, across the harbour by Water Metro, or by road into Kakkanad. This guide sets out what CBSE asks from Class 6 to Class 12 under its 2026-27 curriculum, how it compares in general with the state syllabus, the subjects families ask about, how tutors reach each of Kochi's five zones, and a checklist for the free demo. Abhinandan Tiwary teaches Class 10 CBSE and ICSE maths and Aaditya Kashyap CBSE and ICSE science; the maths and science sections follow their subjects.
The hub names CBSE as one of the two national boards Kochi students follow alongside the state syllabus. It gives no split between them and nor do we; we have no reliable figures. For matching, two details matter more than any share: the class and subjects, and whether your child has recently moved from the state syllabus or from another medium of instruction. A child who studied in Malayalam medium and now writes CBSE answers in English needs a slightly different tutor from one who has always been in an English-medium CBSE school. Tell us both in the request, along with any entrance coaching your child attends, and we can shortlist tutors whose experience fits.
On the state syllabus, the first public examination is the SSLC at the end of Class 10, and Classes 11 and 12 form the Higher Secondary course, where students choose a group of subjects. Schools teach from the state textbooks and, for many children, in the medium of instruction the family chose; the scheme and dates come from the state's official notices. CBSE differs in several practical ways. Its board papers are set on the NCERT books. CBSE describes about half of each secondary board paper as competency-focused, using cases, sources, data and situations. Every major subject reserves marks for the school's own assessment. And CBSE publishes sample papers and marking schemes before each exam, which a good tutor treats as the core material.
| Class | Exams | Tutor's role |
|---|---|---|
| 6 to 8 | School only; computational thinking and AI literacy added within subjects from 2026-27 | Arithmetic and early algebra; science explained, not memorised |
| 9 | School exam on the common 80-mark paper, 20 internal; optional Advanced | A secure common paper; a measured Advanced decision |
| 10 | Board paper of 80, school 20, 33% to pass; optional second exam | Board-style writing; planning around the first exam |
| 11 | School | The step up in the stream subjects |
| 12 | Board theory paper on the whole syllabus; practicals or internal marks | Revision, practical records and timed sample papers |
Under the 2026-27 curriculum, maths and science in Class 9 are taught at one common level and examined by an 80-mark, three-hour paper. A student may also choose the Advanced paper in maths, science or both: one hour, 25 marks, entirely higher-order questions on additional content. The result does not enter the aggregate, though 50% or more is noted on the marksheet. The older Basic and Standard maths split is being discontinued, with the Class 10 batch of 2026-27 staying on the earlier scheme. Transition batches also study a compulsory third language, which the school assesses without a board paper but which must be passed.
Class 10 has two board exams from 2026. All students sit the first. After passing, a student may sit the second to improve up to three subjects from science, maths, social science and the languages; a student who missed three or more in the first cannot sit it. The board paper carries 80 marks in each major subject and the school 20. Read the Class 10 science notes and the board year plan for the detail.
Physics, chemistry and biology each split 70 for theory and 30 for practicals. Maths, or applied maths in its place, splits 80 and 20, as do accountancy, economics and business studies. The Class 12 board paper covers the whole Class 12 syllabus, and CBSE says real-life application questions will increase. Students preparing for entrance exams at the same time need the board side protected: complete NCERT answers, diagrams, units and an up-to-date practical file. See JEE home tutors in Kochi and NEET home tutors in Kochi.
A move into CBSE, whether in Class 8, Class 9 or for the senior years, brings three adjustments at once. The textbooks change to NCERT, with their own sequence and vocabulary. The questions change, with far more case-based and application items than a child may be used to. And, for a child coming from Malayalam medium, the language of every written answer changes too. Tackle them in that order. In the first fortnight, a tutor should map the topics your child already knows onto NCERT chapters, so revision is not wasted. Then introduce one competency-style question per session. Throughout, build English answer-writing: short, accurate sentences, the right technical terms and labelled diagrams, so that what your child understands reaches the page.
A good session opens by asking what school covered this week and which NCERT exercises are still open. It then takes one chapter properly, starting from NCERT's own explanation before moving to exemplar and competency-style questions. It ends with the student writing two or three board-style answers that the tutor marks against the scheme, correcting presentation as carefully as content. For a child adjusting from Malayalam medium, the tutor may explain an idea in Malayalam first and then make sure the written answer is in clear English, which is how the paper will be marked.
Up to Class 10 the requests centre on maths and science, since gaps compound from year to year. In the senior classes they follow the stream: physics, chemistry and maths, or biology and chemistry for medicine, with accountancy and economics for commerce students. English requests rise when a child changes medium.

| Zone | Best route for a tutor | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| Central Ernakulam, e.g. Kaloor or Kadavanthra | Blue Line to Kaloor, Town Hall, Ernakulam South or Kadavanthra | Kadavanthra Junction at peak hours and stadium event days |
| Edappally and North Kochi, e.g. Edappally | Blue Line stations from Aluva to Palarivattom, then a short auto | Edappally junction by car |
| Kakkanad and East Kochi, e.g. Kakkanad | Road along the Seaport–Airport Road; Water Metro from Vyttila | Office-hour traffic toward the IT parks |
| Vyttila and Tripunithura, e.g. Vyttila | Blue Line through to Thrippunithura Terminal | Vyttila and Kundannoor junctions by car |
| West Kochi and the islands, e.g. Fort Kochi | Water Metro from High Court, or a tutor from your side of the harbour | Tourist streets filling later in the day |
Every area is on the Kochi home tuition page, and the Kochi tuition guide adds local detail.
Along the Blue Line, a home tutor is usually straightforward to arrange and remains the better choice for younger children and for maths. Kakkanad, still waiting for its metro line, and the island side across the harbour are where a mix helps: one home lesson plus an online session for doubts. Online maths and science only work if the tutor can see the student's written working as it happens. During temple festival weeks in Tripunithura or Thrikkakara, when roads near the temples are crowded, moving that week's lesson online keeps the rhythm going.
The shortlist has two or three tutors, with fees visible before the demo and a free change later. Tutors joining NXTutors go through an ID check before their profiles are shown.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. For CBSE in Kochi, the class, subjects, weekly sessions and the tutor's route decide the fee. See the Kochi fees guide and our pricing guide.

In general terms, CBSE papers are set on NCERT books, about half of each secondary board paper is competency-focused, and each major subject keeps marks for school assessment. The state syllabus has the SSLC after Class 10 and the Higher Secondary course after it; take its scheme only from official notices.
A tutor who can explain an idea in Malayalam when needed, then build clear English answers with the right technical terms. Start by mapping known topics onto NCERT chapters, add one competency-style question per session, and practise short written answers with labelled diagrams until the English no longer holds marks back.
Only when the common 80-mark paper is already comfortable. The Advanced paper, in maths, science or both, is one hour and 25 marks of higher-order questions on extra content. It is not added to the aggregate, though 50% or more is noted on the marksheet.
Yes. The first board exam is compulsory. A student who passes may take the second to improve up to three subjects among science, maths, social science and the languages. Missing three or more subjects in the first rules out the second, so the first should be treated as the real exam.
Yes. Kakkanad has no metro station yet, so tutors come by road or by Water Metro from Vyttila; avoid office hours toward the IT parks. For Fort Kochi and the islands, we look first for a tutor on your side of the harbour, or one who uses the Water Metro from High Court.
