Tutors who join go through an ID check. Tell us the class, board and your area: we share two or three matched tutors, each with their fee, and the first class is a free demo, at home or online.
Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

According to the Kochi city hub, a smaller group of Kochi students take Cambridge IGCSE or the IB Diploma, and since the pool of specialists for these courses is national, online lessons with a tutor elsewhere in India are often the practical route. That shapes how we match IGCSE students here: a local home tutor where one fits the exact syllabus, an online specialist where not, and often a mix. This page explains the codes, tiers and papers, how IGCSE differs from the state syllabus, how to plan Grades 9 and 10, which subjects to look for, how tutors reach Kochi's zones and what to check in the demo. Ajay Vatsyayan, who teaches IB, IGCSE and ISC maths with NXTutors, wrote it.
We have no figure for how many Kochi students sit IGCSE, beyond the hub's description of a smaller group. What we can say is how we search. For a common code such as Cambridge maths, a tutor living in or near your zone may well be available, particularly along the Blue Line, where tutors can travel the length of the mainland by metro. For a particular science on the practical route, Additional Mathematics or a Grade 10 student close to the exam, the right fit may be an online specialist. We show both kinds side by side, with fees, and you decide. If your child's school uses Pearson Edexcel for some subjects, tell us, because the papers differ.
On the Kerala state syllabus, Class 10 ends with the SSLC, one public examination taught from state textbooks in the child's medium, followed by the Higher Secondary course; the scheme and dates are in official state notices. IGCSE is a set of separate subjects. Each has its own code, papers and grade, and Cambridge designs each one around roughly 130 guided learning hours. Mark schemes credit specific key terms, and questions hinge on command words such as "describe", "explain" and "suggest". All of it is written in English, which matters for a child who has moved from Malayalam medium.
| Course | Lower tier | Higher tier |
|---|---|---|
| Mathematics 0580 | Core: Papers 1 and 3, grades C to G | Extended: Papers 2 and 4, grades A* to E |
| Physics 0625, Chemistry 0620, Biology 0610 | Core: grades C to G | Extended (Core plus Supplement): grades A* to G |
| Edexcel Mathematics A 4MA1 | Foundation: grades 5 to 1 | Higher: grades 9 to 4 |
| Edexcel sciences 4PH1, 4CH1, 4BI1 | Untiered, two written papers | |
Schools usually fix tiers during Grade 10 from test results. A student on Core maths cannot reach an A, so a borderline student should be doing clear Extended-level work before the decision. The Cambridge vs Edexcel comparison sets the two boards side by side.
Cambridge 0580 has one paper without a calculator, and only a scientific calculator, not a graphical one, is allowed on the other. A tutor should build fast, accurate hand methods for the first and calculator efficiency for the second. Edexcel 4MA1 allows a calculator in both papers but sets longer multi-step problems, so algebra is the priority. Students whose main maths grade is secure may add Cambridge Additional Mathematics 0606 or Edexcel Further Pure Mathematics 4PM1, which go further into functions and calculus. Our IGCSE maths tutor page goes deeper.
Every Cambridge science candidate sits a multiple-choice paper of 40 questions in 45 minutes (30%), a theory paper of 80 marks in 1 hour 15 minutes (50%), and a 40-mark practical paper (20%). The school decides whether that last paper is a practical test or the written alternative to practical. For the alternative, a tutor should rehearse planning a method, choosing variables, drawing results tables with units, plotting graphs and commenting on reliability, since students who rarely handle apparatus find it the least familiar paper. Edexcel sciences have no tiers and test practical skills inside their two written papers.
| When | What the tutor does |
|---|---|
| Grade 9 start | Command words, calculator rules and an error log from day one |
| Grade 9 | Topic-by-topic past questions alongside the school scheme |
| Grade 10 to mocks | Content finished; higher-tier evidence before tiers are set |
| After mocks | Full timed papers marked with the official scheme |
Cambridge runs June and November series, and March in India. A March entry leaves less time after mocks, so plan backwards from the series on your child's entry.
A child joining an IGCSE class in Grade 9 or 10 usually recognises most topics, which can be misleading. Marks slip on the first non-calculator paper, on science questions that ask for a reasoned suggestion rather than a recalled fact, and on the practical paper. A child who studied in Malayalam medium also has to produce precise English in every answer. Plan the first month around these: one command word studied per session with examples, a weekly non-calculator set, a practical skill rehearsed each week, and short written answers corrected for the exact terms the mark scheme expects. Ask the school for the codes, tiers and series in the first week, so practice starts on the right papers.
Because online is often the practical route for IGCSE in Kochi, set it up properly. A camera or writing tablet that shows the notebook clearly, a quiet room and a shared folder of past papers and mark schemes make the hour far more productive. Ask the tutor to set work between lessons that you can see being completed, and to send a short note on progress. One workable pattern is a weekly online lesson plus an occasional home session when a local tutor is available.
Whether at home or online, an effective IGCSE hour follows a steady pattern: a few minutes on mistakes from the error log, one topic taught with exam-style examples and the right command words, then two or three past-paper questions under time, marked together with the official scheme so the student sees which words earned credit. Homework is short and specific. You should be able to hear, in a sentence, what was done and what comes next.
After Grade 10, students may continue to the IB Diploma or A Level, or move to CBSE, ISC or the state's Higher Secondary course. The Diploma route rewards Extended maths and early graphic-calculator practice; the Indian boards want quick hand calculation, trigonometry in radians and fully written working. For the Higher Secondary course, the state textbooks for the chosen group are the place to start. See IB tutors in Kochi and the CBSE, IB and IGCSE switching guide.

| Zone | Route and tip |
|---|---|
| Central Ernakulam | Blue Line stations through the centre; register visitors in the towers |
| Edappally and North Kochi, e.g. Elamakkara or Cheranallur | Blue Line plus a short auto; Cheranallur also has a Water Metro terminal |
| Kakkanad and East Kochi, e.g. Vennala or Thammanam | Tutors via Vyttila or Palarivattom stations; avoid IT-park office hours |
| Vyttila and Tripunithura, e.g. Elamkulam | Some of the widest choice of tutors arriving by metro |
| West Kochi and the islands, e.g. Palluruthy | A tutor from your side of the harbour, or online when bridge approaches are busy |
Online lessons need live sight of handwritten working and the same calculator your child uses in the exam. In gated communities and high-rise complexes, register a home tutor at the gate before the demo and confirm where they can park. Every area is listed on the Kochi home tuition page, with more in the Kochi tuition guide.
You receive two or three tutors, local, online or both, see each fee before the demo, and can switch later for free. Tutors who join pass an ID check before the Verified badge appears.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. The subject, tier, time to the exam series and whether lessons are at home or online move an IGCSE fee. See the Kochi fees guide and the pricing guide.

The Kochi city hub notes that a smaller group of students take Cambridge IGCSE or the IB, and that the specialist pool for these courses is national. For a particular science, Additional Mathematics or exam-year revision, an online specialist from elsewhere in India often fits better than the nearest home tutor.
In Cambridge maths 0580, Core students sit Papers 1 and 3 and can reach grades C to G; Extended students sit Papers 2 and 4 and can reach A* to E. In the sciences, Extended adds Supplement content and opens A* to G. Schools usually decide tiers during Grade 10.
By rehearsing the skills it tests: planning a method, choosing and controlling variables, drawing results tables with units, plotting graphs and commenting on reliability. In Cambridge sciences, this paper or the practical test is worth 40 marks and 20% of the grade, and the school decides which one is sat.
Focus early on command words and precise English, since mark schemes credit exact key terms. One command word per session, short written answers corrected for terminology, a weekly non-calculator set and regular practical-skills practice usually close the gap within a term. A tutor who can explain in Malayalam when needed helps.
Cambridge lists a March series in India alongside June and November, so some schools enter students in March. That leaves less time after mocks than a June entry, so check the series on your child's entry and plan backwards from it. Edexcel Mathematics A runs in January and June.
Across NXTutors most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour, with IB/IGCSE, Classes 11–12 and JEE/NEET toward the upper end. The subject, tier, time left before the series and whether lessons are at home or online set the fee, which you see before the free demo.
