Tutors who join go through an ID check. Tell us the class, board and your area: we share two or three matched tutors, each with their fee, and the first class is a free demo, at home or online.
Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

A Kochi family looking for an economics tutor first has to answer a question that sounds simple: which economics? The Kerala Higher Secondary course, CBSE, ISC, Cambridge IGCSE or A Level, and the IB Diploma all teach supply, demand, national income and development, but they examine them in very different ways, and in Kochi the medium of teaching matters too. This page compares the courses, describes the weak spots tutors most often work on, and explains how to plan weekly lessons around the metro, the water metro and the busy junctions. Our national economics home tutor guide has the syllabus detail for each board.
| Course | How it is examined | Signs of a well-matched tutor |
|---|---|---|
| Kerala Higher Secondary (Plus One, Plus Two) | Board examinations on the state textbooks | Teaches in your child's medium from the prescribed book |
| CBSE Economics (030) | Theory out of 80 each year (statistics and micro in Class 11; macro and Indian Economic Development in Class 12) plus a 20-mark project | Sets out numericals in tables; prepares for the viva |
| ISC Economics (856) | Theory out of 80: 20 marks compulsory, then five 12-mark answers from eight; two 10-mark projects | Times full answers from the first month |
| Cambridge IGCSE Economics (0455) | Multiple choice (1 hour, 40 marks) and structured questions (2 hours, 80 marks) | Insists on exact terms |
| Cambridge AS and A Level Economics (9708) | Multiple choice, data response and essays across four papers | Teaches essay planning |
| IB Economics SL and HL | Two papers for SL, three for HL, plus an internal assessment of three commentaries | Explains the IA criteria and will not write it |
Commerce students who also study accounts will find our accountancy tutors in Kochi page useful.
On the Kerala State Board, Classes 11 and 12 make up the Higher Secondary course, in which students choose a group of subjects, and economics appears in commerce and humanities groups. We keep to that outline: the syllabus, the question paper scheme and the exam dates come from the board's own notices, and a tutor should follow those.
For a Higher Secondary student, look for three things. The tutor teaches in the medium your child studies in, so that terms like elasticity or national income are learnt once, not twice. They follow the prescribed textbook and practise on the board's papers. And they build the habits that earn marks anywhere: exact definitions, labelled diagrams, numericals with every step shown, and answers that end with a conclusion.
| Problem | How it shows | What the tutor does |
|---|---|---|
| Loose definitions | Everyday words where the examiner wants terms | Short weekly definition tests, marked strictly |
| Silent diagrams | A graph is drawn but never mentioned in the answer | Every diagram followed by a sentence explaining it |
| Statistics nerves | Students who dropped maths avoid the numerical chapters | Small, tabulated problems first, then exam-length ones |
| Lists, not arguments | Long answers that never weigh one point against another | "Which effect matters more, and why?" asked every time |
| Running out of time | ISC and A Level papers left unfinished | Timed answers from early in the year |
A Class 11 statistics example shows the habit tutors want. A household basket that cost ₹400 in the base year costs ₹460 now. The simple price index is 460 ÷ 400 × 100 = 115, meaning prices of that basket have risen 15% since the base year. CBSE gives Statistics for Economics 40 of the 80 Class 11 theory marks and asks for interpretation, not just calculation, so that final sentence earns its place. In the CBSE project, one per session of 3,500 to 4,000 words, the viva carries 8 of the 20 marks; tutors can rehearse it, but the work must be the student's own.
A smaller group of Kochi students take the IB Diploma or Cambridge courses. IB Economics, a group 3 subject, is organised around nine key concepts and four units, with 150 recommended hours at SL and 240 at HL. SL students sit an extended response paper (30%) and a data response paper (40%); HL students sit both plus a policy paper, at 20%, 30% and 30%. The internal assessment, 30% at SL and 20% at HL, is a portfolio of three commentaries on news extracts, each from a different unit and key concept. A tutor can practise the method on other articles; under IB academic-integrity rules they never write any part of it. See our IB tutors in Kochi and IGCSE tutors in Kochi pages.
Cambridge A Level essays are unstructured, unlike the two-part AS essays, so students must learn to plan an argument themselves. IGCSE students need tight vocabulary and neat, fully labelled diagrams for the structured paper.
For students heading to central universities, the NTA's 2026 CUET (UG) bulletin includes Economics / Business Economics, domain subject 309, examined through 50 compulsory questions in 60 minutes on NCERT's Class 12 syllabus. Higher Secondary and ISC students should map their course against NCERT's before practising timed sets. Confirm the details in the bulletin for your year.
A home economics tutor can be requested anywhere in the city. When a weekly journey looks unreliable, online lessons bring in tutors from further away.
In Panampilly Nagar, houses and low-rise flats sit on a grid of cross roads, easy for a tutor arriving by auto from Ernakulam South or Kadavanthra. In the Marine Drive towers, give the tutor's name to reception and ask where visitors may park.
Edappally is a major road hub, so a tutor near a Blue Line station is steadier than one driving through the junction. In Aluva, move riverside lessons earlier or online during the Sivarathri crowds.
Vennala and Thammanam can draw on tutors coming through Vyttila or Palarivattom stations. In Thrikkakara, plan around temple festival days.
During the temple festival in Tripunithura's old town, shift that week's lesson earlier or online. Elamkulam's colonies of independent houses mean a doorstep visit.
The lanes of Mattancherry suit a tutor on foot or a two-wheeler. For the northern villages of Vypin, a local tutor plus online sessions often suits a specialist course.
The Kochi tuition guide and our Kochi page describe each neighbourhood.
Economics is one of the easier subjects to teach online. Graphs drawn on a digital whiteboard are clear, a news report can be read by tutor and student at the same moment, and a long answer can come back annotated before the next lesson. For IB HL or A Level, going online also lets you choose a tutor who has taught that exact course, wherever they are. A tutor in the room still helps a student who drifts on screen, and helps most with early statistics, where slips are spotted as they happen. Plenty of Kochi families use one tutor in both ways.
On frequency, economics usually asks for less time than accountancy but more regularity than parents expect. One lesson a week, with a written task marked every time, carries many Plus One and Class 11 students. Two a week makes sense once Class 12 numericals and long answers arrive, and in the stretch of model and pre-board papers. IB and A Level students tend to need extra sessions around internal assessment deadlines and mock exams rather than evenly through the year, so agree that rhythm with the tutor at the start.
If several answers are no, tell us and another shortlisted tutor gives a demo.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Yes, Kochi Higher Secondary students can get an economics tutor for Plus One or Plus Two on request. Tell us the year, subject group and medium. We look for tutors who teach from the prescribed textbook and practise the board's papers; check the syllabus, scheme and dates in the board's official notices.
The medium matters for economics in Kochi because the subject depends on precise terms. A student who studies in Malayalam but is taught in English, or the reverse, learns each idea twice. A tutor working in the classroom's medium keeps definitions, such as elasticity or national income, consistent with what the paper expects.
We can search for an IB economics tutor in Kochi on request, and online lessons widen the choice to tutors across India who taught the exact course. Ask about the internal assessment of three commentaries on news extracts, and the HL policy paper. A tutor may coach the method but never write the commentaries.
An economics tutor usually reaches Panampilly Nagar or Kadavanthra in Kochi by Blue Line to Ernakulam South or Kadavanthra, then a short auto. Panampilly Nagar's grid of cross roads makes houses easy to find. Kadavanthra Junction is slow at peak hours, so pick a time that avoids it or move that day online.
Kochi students often learn economics well online: graphs on a digital whiteboard are clear, news reports can be read together and long answers come back annotated. Online also opens IB HL and A Level specialists. A tutor at home still suits students who drift on screen and early statistics, where slips are caught at once.
Two economics lessons a week suit most Kochi Plus Two or Class 12 students once numericals and long answers arrive. One a week often carries Plus One or Class 11. A written task marked at every next lesson matters more than hours. IB and A Level students need extra sessions around IA deadlines and mocks.
A Kochi Class 11 student should answer a CBSE index number question with the calculation and a sentence interpreting it. Statistics for Economics carries 40 of the 80 Class 11 theory marks, and CBSE asks for interpretation, not just calculation. A tutor checks that every numerical ends with what the figure means.
CUET Economics is relevant for Kochi Higher Secondary students aiming at central universities, but they should first map their course against NCERT's. NTA's 2026 CUET (UG) bulletin lists Economics / Business Economics, domain subject 309, with 50 compulsory questions in 60 minutes on NCERT's Class 12 syllabus.
An economics tutor for Kochi students usually fixes loose definitions, silent diagrams never mentioned in the answer, statistics nerves, lists instead of arguments, and unfinished ISC or A Level papers. Weekly definition tests, a sentence after every diagram, and timed answers from early in the year address them.
