Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

Yes, a tutor can come to your home in Tilak Nagar, or teach your child online. Tell NXTutors the class, board, subject and which part of Tilak Nagar you are in, for example near the Central Market, off Jail Road or towards Chaukhandi. We send back two or three matched tutors, with each one's fee on the shortlist before you agree to anything. The first class is a free demo, and if the tutor stops working out later, switching is free.
Tilak Nagar sits in our Janakpuri, Rajouri Garden and Punjabi Bagh zone of Delhi. Two things shape tuition here more than anything else: a Blue Line station on the Najafgarh Road flyover, and a busy market area wrapped around it.
| What | Tilak Nagar |
|---|---|
| Before the colony | Land of the old Chaukhandi village; much of today's colony was settled after Partition in the late 1940s |
| PIN code | 110018 |
| Homes | DDA flats, cooperative group housing flats, builder floors and independent houses in numbered blocks |
| Metro | Tilak Nagar station, Blue Line, on the Shivaji Marg flyover at Prem Nagar; Subhash Nagar one stop east, Janakpuri East one stop west |
| Second line nearby | Krishna Park Extension on the Magenta Line, on the Krishna Park side |
| Main roads | Najafgarh Road (Shivaji Marg), Jail Road (Shaheed Bhagat Singh Marg), Outer Ring Road |

| Boards families ask about | Mostly CBSE, some ICSE and ISC, a few IB or Cambridge |
| Modes | Home visits, online classes or a mix |
Before Partition, this ground was part of Chaukhandi village, and the name survives in Chaukhandi, still one of the localities around Tilak Nagar. Most of the present colony took shape from the late 1940s onwards. That history explains the street pattern a tutor meets today: older numbered blocks close to the market, with newer streets and smaller colonies such as Ashok Nagar, Fateh Nagar, Chand Nagar, Vishnu Garden and Ajay Enclave pressed up against it on every side.
The homes are a mix. Property portals list DDA flats, cooperative group housing (CGHS) flats, builder floors and independent houses, with flats running from one-room units to four-bedroom homes. Block numbers such as 16, 17 and 23 appear in listings, and the Old Market area around Block 16 is one of the most often named. For a tutor, the practical result is that most visits end at a staircase and a front door, not at a tower lobby with an app-based entry system.
Tilak Nagar is a commercial hub, not only a place where people live. The Central Market sells clothing, consumer durables and goods for Punjabi weddings, and other streets carry timber, hardware and furniture. Jail Road's furniture stretch runs from here towards Hari Nagar, and there are three cinema halls in the area. All this means the roads near the market are full in the evening, which is exactly when most school-age tuition happens.
Because so many small colonies meet here, two homes that both say "Tilak Nagar" can sit on opposite sides of Najafgarh Road, or one may be closer to Janakpuri East station than to Tilak Nagar station. When you send a request, add the block or colony name and the nearest landmark. It helps us find a tutor whose route actually suits your lane.
We read public resident reviews of Tilak Nagar on property portals. Below are the themes that keep coming up, turned into planning points for tuition. None of this is a verdict on any block or authority.
The most dependable route for a visiting tutor is the Blue Line. Tilak Nagar station opened on 31 December 2005 with the first Blue Line section to Dwarka. It is an elevated station on the Shivaji Marg flyover at Prem Nagar, and its entry and exit points list the Central Market, the Saat Manzila temple, Ashok Nagar, Fateh Nagar, Jail Road and Prem Nagar. A tutor coming from the Rajouri Garden side gets off one stop after Subhash Nagar; one coming from Janakpuri or Dwarka gets off one stop after Janakpuri East. Tell the tutor which of those landmarks is nearest to your home, and they can pick the right exit and walk or take an e-rickshaw from there.
Portals list Krishna Park Extension, on the Magenta Line, as another station within reach of parts of Tilak Nagar. That helps a tutor who lives along the Magenta Line, for example towards Janakpuri West or Dabri, and saves a change of line.
Three roads matter. Najafgarh Road, also called Shivaji Marg, is the main arterial road of West Delhi and runs right through Tilak Nagar. Jail Road (Shaheed Bhagat Singh Marg) heads south towards Dhaula Kuan and the rest of South Delhi. The Outer Ring Road links the area to Paschim Vihar, Pitampura, Rohini and Wazirabad. A tutor living along any of these can reach you, but the last stretch into a market lane is where time is lost, so a parking spot a short walk away is often the smarter plan.
Because of this layout, NXTutors usually suggests a mix: tutors from nearby colonies such as Janakpuri, Vikaspuri or Subhash Nagar, and tutors from further along the Blue or Magenta Line who can ride straight in.
In most of Tilak Nagar, there is no society gate to clear. Builder floors and independent houses are doorstep visits, so the key details are the block, house number, floor and whether the staircase is shared. If your floor has its own entrance from the side lane, say so; first-time visitors often walk past it.
DDA flats and the cooperative group housing complexes are different. Some keep a guard at the entrance who notes visitors in a register. Share the tutor's name with the guard before the demo, and give the tutor your flat number and the pocket or building letter, so the first visit does not start with a phone call from the gate.
Tutors who join NXTutors go through an ID check: they confirm their phone number and upload a government photo ID that our team reviews. You can read how it works on how we check tutors. It is not a police or background check, so use the same sense you would with any new visitor. Keep an adult at home for the demo and the first few classes, hold lessons in a shared room rather than behind a closed door, and save the tutor's number before the first visit.
If you would feel easier with a woman tutor, say so in your request. The shortlist is drawn up with that in mind; our page on female home tutors in Delhi explains how.
Most requests from Tilak Nagar are for CBSE, the main board in Delhi. We also hear from ICSE and ISC families, and now and then from families on IB or Cambridge programmes. For CBSE, plenty of tutors along the Blue Line know the syllabus well, so the choice is wide. For ICSE, and even more for IB or IGCSE, the right tutor may live further away; here a mix of home visits and online classes is often the realistic answer.
One local point: because most homes here are compact floors, the study space is often a corner of a shared room. Tell a senior-board tutor in advance if your child will be working at a dining table, so they bring a clipboard or board of their own for diagrams. For a side-by-side look at the boards, read our CBSE vs ICSE vs IB vs IGCSE guide, or see ICSE home tutors in Delhi.
Reading fluency, handwriting, tables and the habit of finishing homework without a fight are the usual goals. Short sessions of about an hour, three or four times a week, suit this age. Market-side homes can be noisy, so pick a time when the house is calm, often straight after school lunch rather than in the early evening.
This is when maths and science stop being easy for many children. Fractions turn into algebra, and science splits into physics, chemistry and biology chapters. One tutor for maths and science together keeps the number of visits manageable and gives the child a single person to ask. English writing and grammar often need a separate push.
Board pressure begins. Most families move to subject tutors here: one for maths and one for science, with English or social science added if marks slip. A tutor who has taught the CBSE Class 10 paper pattern helps with how answers are written, not only with chapters. Our Class 10 home tuition page for Delhi sets out what that year needs.
Stream choice decides everything. Science students need specialists for physics, chemistry and maths or biology; commerce students ask for accountancy, economics and business studies. Fewer tutors teach these well, so the shortlist may include tutors who come from further along the Blue Line, or teach some sessions online.
For JEE or NEET, a home tutor works well as a support to school and self-study: clearing doubts, setting timed practice and checking mistakes. Online sessions with a specialist are common here.
For CBSE students, the main board papers fall in the late-winter months, so revision runs through December and January. Those are cold, short-daylight weeks, and the lanes around Tilak Nagar's market stay as crowded in the evening as at any other time of year. Book extra revision sessions early, ask your tutor to hold their regular slot, and plan for some weekend classes to move online on the busiest days. IB and Cambridge students follow their own exam sessions; check the dates on ibo.org or cambridgeinternational.org rather than relying on forwarded messages.
The answer depends on your child more than on the colony, but Tilak Nagar's layout tips the balance in a few ways.
Many families combine them: a home tutor for the main subject and an online tutor for one specialist subject. Use the free demo to see how your child responds in each mode before you decide.

Maths in Class 10 can call for a lot of patience. If your child in Tilak Nagar is finding it hard, or needs help with physics, accountancy or economics later on, send us the class, board and topics, and two or three tutors who teach those topics will be proposed. None of them charges for the first class, which is a demo.
Tilak Nagar is listed in the Janakpuri, Rajouri Garden & Punjabi Bagh zone of Delhi, which has twelve NXTutors pages, among them Hari Nagar, Subhash Nagar and Vikaspuri. Tutors who live in Tilak Nagar, or have chosen it as a place they will travel to, are shown first. Teachers from the zone's other pages follow, then those across the rest of the city, then home tutors from Ghaziabad and other NCR cities, then online tutors, each with a note explaining why it appears.
For board years, ask the tutor how they use past papers and how they build your child's confidence with clear written working, step by step. Our maths home tutors page has further choice. If you would like to compare, the Janakpuri and Moti Nagar pages are in the same zone.
