Uttam Nagar is not one planned colony but a cluster of fully urbanised sub-areas built on the lands of Hastsal village, which the government acquired for development. Population grew fastest after the metro arrived, and the colonies fill in densely between the main roads.
A property portal lists a long set of localities in and around it: Uttam Nagar West, Om Vihar, Vishwas Park, Raja Puri, Bhagwati Vihar, Mansa Ram Park, Jivan Park, Parjapat Colony, Milap Nagar, Matiala and Bindapur, with Hastsal village itself on one side. Each has its own lanes and numbering, so a house number alone rarely tells a tutor where to go. The colony name plus a landmark does.
Builder floors dominate, making up most of the homes sold and rented according to portal data. There are also independent houses and a smaller number of apartment buildings, including cooperative group housing and DDA EWS houses listed on the same portal. Floors here are often four or five storeys with narrow staircases.
Uttam Nagar also has history in its lanes. In Hastsal village stands a three-storey Mughal minaret built around 1650 by Shah Jahan near his hunting lodge, known locally as the Mini Qutub Minar or Hastsal ki Laat. It is a Grade A protected monument, now hemmed in by houses. Potter's Colony, also called Kumhar Colony, is another named part of the area.
Because colonies sit so close together, two homes a few hundred metres apart can be reached from different stations and by different e-rickshaw routes. That is why we ask for the colony name in the request: it tells us which tutors already travel to your side.
For tuition the lesson is simple: send a landmark, a colony name and a floor, and the tutor's first visit will go smoothly.
Resident reviews on a property portal paint a clear picture of daily life here. We reframe each theme as a planning point, not a judgement.
Uttam Nagar has four Blue Line stations, all elevated and all opened on 31 December 2005. From the Janakpuri side they run in this order:
From the station, shared e-rickshaws on fixed routes cover the last leg into the lanes, and Gramin Sewa autos run along the main road between Dwarka Mor and Uttam Nagar East. Tell the tutor which station is nearest and which e-rickshaw route passes your lane; it saves wrong turns in look-alike lanes.
Tutors coming from Janakpuri use Uttam Nagar East; those from Dwarka come one or two stops the other way. A tutor coming from Palam or Dabri may ride the Magenta Line to Janakpuri West and change to the Blue Line, or come by Pankha Road. Najafgarh Road, Pankha Road and the Outer Ring Road are the main roads residents name, and all three get busy in the evening.
A word on timing: the evening is when the markets on Arya Samaj Road and Hastsal Road are at their busiest and when e-rickshaws are in most demand. A tutor who arrives a little before that, or a weekend morning class, has the easiest trip. If your child's school day ends early, a late-afternoon slot is often the smoothest of all.
If your home is deep in a lane far from all four stations, consider a tutor from your own side of the area, or a scooter rider who knows the lanes.
Almost every Uttam Nagar visit is straight to the door of a house or a floor; few homes have a society gate. That makes entry easy but finding the right door harder.
On safety, tutors who join NXTutors go through an ID check, and their profile badge appears only after the ID check is complete. See how we check tutor IDs. This is not a police or background check, so use ordinary care: keep an adult at home during the demo, hold lessons in a shared room, and fix the days and times so the household knows when the tutor is due. If you prefer a woman tutor for home visits, ask for one in the request.
CBSE is the board most Uttam Nagar parents mention, across all classes, so most tutors who travel here are used to NCERT books and CBSE sample papers; a CBSE home tutor in Delhi is the usual match. ICSE and ISC requests are fewer, and IB or IGCSE are rare; for those, an online specialist usually fills the gap.
For a home tutor, what changes in a builder floor is noise and space. Lanes here are lively, so a room facing away from the road, with the door closed, makes a real difference to a forty-five-minute maths session.
To compare boards in detail, see our board comparison guide.
A tutor for a small child is mostly building routine: reading, writing neatly, number sense, and finishing homework without a fight. A slot soon after school, before the evening market noise, suits this age.
This is where children start to need help organising, not only explaining. A tutor who keeps a notebook of mistakes and revisits them each week turns the middle years into a foundation for Class 9.
Class 9 is the year to start properly; it carries the base for the Class 10 syllabus. A Class 9 home tutor should plan chapter by chapter alongside school, then move to past and sample papers in Class 10. CBSE now holds two Class 10 board exams a year from 2026, the second for improvement; ask the tutor how they would plan for both.
Science students often want help in physics first, because the jump from Class 10 is steep. A physics home tutor who can also handle maths saves a second set of visits. With four stations on one line, a Class 12 student here can also have a second tutor for chemistry or biology without much travel trouble for either tutor.
When exams near, families add sessions, and tutors' evenings fill up across West Delhi. Book revision classes early in the winter. The roads do not become quieter in exam months, so a session that ends before the market rush is easier. Check dates only on the board's own website; the CBSE scheme and date sheets are published at cbse.gov.in.
Mixing works well: home tuition for maths or science, online for one other subject. Try the free demo in each mode before you decide.
Every tutor on NXTutors sets their own fee and you can see it on their profile before the demo. Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more.
What changes the fee here:
The demo is free, and so is switching tutor later.
Residents name Om Vihar Park and Bindapur Park as the green spaces nearby. We found no public library we could confirm in Uttam Nagar, so for most students the quietest study place is a fixed corner at home, away from the road side of the floor.
For all colonies in this belt, see the West Delhi zone page.
Each link opens the Delhi page for that board, subject or class. Tell us you are in Uttam Nagar and we look for tutors who can reach you, or teach online.

On NXTutors, Uttam Nagar is one of twelve pages that make up the Janakpuri, Rajouri Garden & Punjabi Bagh zone, with Hari Nagar, Kirti Nagar and Paschim Vihar among the others. You can ask here for a tutor in any subject, from early science to Class 12 economics or accountancy, and you receive the names of two or three tutors suited to your child's class and board.
Whoever lives in Uttam Nagar or names it as somewhere they will travel appears first. If no one is listed there yet, the cards that follow show teachers from around the zone, then Delhi as a whole, then home tutors based in Faridabad or another NCR city, and finally online tutors. A short reason sits on each card, so you always know why a tutor is there.
A clear request saves time for everyone. Mention the board, the class, the chapters done and the books your child uses, plus the evenings you can keep free. For a NEET aspirant, say how much of the syllabus has been covered at school. Our science home tutors page is another place to compare tutors across Delhi before you book a free demo.
