Tutors who join go through an ID check. Tell us the class, board and your area: we share two or three matched tutors, each with their fee, and the first class is a free demo, at home or online.
Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

In many Ludhiana homes, Punjabi or Hindi is the language of the dinner table and English is the language of the exam hall. That gap shows up in different ways. A strong reader drops marks because a letter is laid out wrongly; another understands every chapter and still hands in a three-line literature answer; a third writes neatly and freezes when asked to speak. We start by asking which of those sounds like your child, which board sets the paper (PSEB, CBSE, ICSE, ISC or an international course), and where you live. NXTutors then puts forward two or three English tutors, fees attached, and your chosen one gives a free demo.
A report card that says "weak in English" can hide any of four problems, and the right tutor differs for each:
Name the problem in your request; it shapes the shortlist more than the class does.
| Board | Class 10 | Classes 11–12 | Work from |
|---|---|---|---|
| Punjab School Education Board | English set by PSEB from its own books | English set by PSEB | The PSEB textbook and the board's released papers; formats from pseb.ac.in |
| CBSE | English Language and Literature, board paper 80 plus school 20 | English Core, written 80 plus 20 (listening, speaking, project) | The NCERT readers; CBSE's own sample papers |
| CISCE | ICSE: separate Language and Literature papers of 80, plus internal marks | ISC: Language and Literature, 80 apiece, each with project work worth 20 | Prescribed texts; specimen papers on cisce.org |
| Cambridge; IB | IGCSE English as First Language (0500) or as a Second Language (0510/0511) | IB Language A, built on unseen analysis, a comparative essay and an oral | Past papers; which entry the school has made |
For 2026-27 the 80 board marks come in three blocks:
Another 20 marks are awarded in school, including 5 for listening and speaking. Because literature is worth as much as reading, writing and grammar combined, a child who could retell a chapter fluently in Punjabi or Hindi but writes three thin English lines is leaving marks on the table. A couple of literature answers each week, checked for length and relevance, usually repay more than an extra grammar sheet.
The Punjab School Education Board prepares and publishes its own textbooks and sets its own English papers, so we describe them only in general terms. A tutor for a PSEB child should work from the board's own book and from papers the board has released, explain in Punjabi or Hindi where that helps at first and move steadily into English, and take paper formats and dates only from pseb.ac.in, because they can change. For other subjects on the board, see Punjab board tutors in Ludhiana.
For CISCE, English is two subjects with two papers: English Language, and Literature in English, each out of 80 plus 20 internal. The language paper wants a composition of roughly 300 to 350 words, a letter, a notice paired with an e-mail, an unseen passage including a summary, and grammar; listening and speaking take 10 internal marks apiece. The literature paper covers the set play, stories and poems. A tutor's real value here is timed, extended writing, marked honestly. We break the papers down further in our notes on ICSE Class 10 English.
Gradually. A student arriving from Punjabi-medium or Hindi-medium classes does better with a planned bridge than with an overnight switch:
| Stage | In the lesson | How a parent notices progress |
|---|---|---|
| Translate both ways | A few lines of Punjabi or Hindi rendered in English, then English rendered back | Word order in English sentences stops copying the home language |
| Read every day | A small daily dose of English reading, with a word log and a one-line response | New words appear in the child's own speech and writing |
| Borrow a frame | Ready openings and connectors for letters, paragraphs and literature answers | Answers grow longer and stay on point |
| Switch the lesson | From a date agreed with the family, the tutor speaks only English | Questions to the tutor come in English as well |
Speaking slots in easily: the child closes each lesson by telling the tutor, aloud, what the day's passage said, and over the weeks that becomes a short talk with questions. Families who want spoken fluency as a goal in itself should mention it up front. Read our spoken English guide for students for ideas.
At this age the target is fluent reading; exam technique can wait. Warning signs are guessing from the first letter, losing the line, or quietly avoiding books. Little and often works: decode a few unfamiliar words, read a page aloud with gentle correction, then tell the story back in the child's words. A brief, focused session beats a long, tiring one. If English is rarely heard at home, pick a tutor who chats in simple English around pictures and stories, dropping into Punjabi or Hindi only to unstick a word. A primary specialist suits this stage better than a teacher of senior classes.
CBSE English Core weights Class 11 as reading 26, grammar with creative writing 23, and literature 31 from Hornbill and Snapshots. Class 12 shifts to reading 22, creative writing 18 and literature 40 from Flamingo and Vistas; grammar no longer has a block of its own. On the ISC side, students choose one of six topics for a 400–450 word composition and also face directed writing and a proposal, while literature has its own paper. IGCSE families should confirm the First Language or Second Language entry; IB students prepare for unseen analysis and an individual oral. These courses have fewer specialist teachers locally, so online help is common. For a full treatment of each, see the national English home tutor guide.
Tutors here usually ride a two-wheeler or come by car or auto, which is why a match from your side of Ludhiana tends to hold up through the year. Our Ludhiana home tuition page covers every colony.
| Colony | Homes | Plan for |
|---|---|---|
| BRS Nagar | Independent houses with builder floors and some shops in its blocks | Block letter and house number; tutors from Sarabha Nagar and Pakhowal Road are close |
| Rajguru Nagar | Independent houses, plots, builder floors and some flats | A Ferozepur Road landmark; the guard told the tutor's name in apartment blocks |
| Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar | Lettered blocks of houses, plots and builder floors | The block letter, since blocks share similar names; a slot clear of school-closing traffic |
| Model Town | Independent houses and builder floors, with market streets | An earlier slot on the busy market roads; floor and phone number for a builder floor |
| Pakhowal Road | Flats, houses, builder floors and plots behind the main road | The colony and side road, not just the road name; a sign-in at some buildings |
| Shimlapuri | Mostly independent houses, some on narrow inner lanes | The gali or block name; a two-wheeler; avoid shift-change hours near the industrial belt |
The Ferozepur Road West and Pakhowal Road and Dugri zone pages add landmarks and quieter hours, and the Ludhiana home tuition guide compares all four zones.
From roughly Class 3 onwards, online English works if the tutor sees the written work first, sent as notebook photos or typed into a shared file, and it brings in ISC, IGCSE and IB specialists from outside your part of Ludhiana. Face-to-face lessons are the better fit for early readers, for students just starting to switch into English, and for children who open up when someone sits beside them. Where the right tutor lives on the other side of the city, alternate: one visit and one online lesson each week.
A "no" to these is worth reporting to us. Another shortlisted tutor will give a demo, and changing tutor later in the year is free.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Every tutor prices their own lessons. Class and board, familiarity with that paper, the journey at your chosen hour and lesson frequency all play a part, and you see the fees on the shortlist before any demo. Our Ludhiana home tuition fees article lists sensible questions to ask.
Tell us the class and board, which of the four skills worries you, the language your child thinks in, your colony and a nearby landmark, the times you can offer and a budget. Back come two or three English tutors with fees. Tutors who join go through an ID check; the Verified badge appears only after our team has reviewed the ID (how we check tutors). A Ludhiana parent asking for an English tutor should include the class, board, the weak skill, the language the child thinks in, colony with a landmark, times and budget. We send two or three matched tutors, each fee shown before the first class. The first class is a free demo, and switching tutor later is free.
Yes, we look for English tutors in Ludhiana who work from the Punjab School Education Board's own English textbook and its released papers. They can explain in Punjabi or Hindi at first before moving into English, but take paper formats and dates from pseb.ac.in, because the board can change them.
A Ludhiana English tutor helps a Punjabi-speaking child with a gradual bridge, not a sudden switch. Lessons use translation both ways, a little daily reading with a word log, ready openings and linking phrases, and then an agreed date from which the whole lesson runs in English, ending with spoken summaries.
For Ludhiana CBSE Class 10 students in 2026-27, English gives reading 20, writing and grammar 20, and literature 40 from First Flight and Footprints without Feet. Writing and grammar split into grammar 10, a formal letter 5 and an analytical paragraph 5, and school adds 20 internal marks.
ICSE English needs more tutor time in Ludhiana because CISCE treats it as two subjects: English Language and Literature in English, each 80 marks plus 20 internal. The language paper alone asks for a 300 to 350-word composition, a letter, a notice with an e-mail, comprehension with a summary, and grammar.
Yes, a Ludhiana English tutor can make spoken English the main goal, but say so in your request, because it changes the shortlist. CBSE, ICSE and ISC all give marks for listening and speaking, so spoken practice also fits naturally into ordinary board preparation.
Usually yes, an English tutor can visit a BRS Nagar home in Ludhiana, since homes there are mostly independent houses and builder floors. Share the block letter, house number and, for an upper floor, whether there is a lift; tutors in Sarabha Nagar and along Pakhowal Road reach it easily.
Mixing one home visit with one online English lesson suits many Ludhiana families, especially when the right tutor lives across the city. Online works from about Class 3 if written work reaches the tutor first as photos or a shared document, while early readers and children just switching into English do better at home.
A Class 1 to 5 English tutor in Ludhiana should work on fluent reading, leaving exam technique for later. Short sessions decode a few new words, read a page aloud with gentle correction, then retell the story; if English is rarely heard at home, a primary specialist chatting around pictures suits this stage.
