What home tuition costs in Ludhiana

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.

Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

Maths home tutor in Ludhiana: name the paper, then the colony, then the hour

Ask three Ludhiana parents what "Class 10 maths" means and you may get three different answers: a Punjab School Education Board book, the NCERT book for a CBSE paper, or an ICSE text chosen by the school. Each one is marked by a different examiner who looks for different working. Where the family lives shapes the match just as much, because a tutor based in Model Town and a tutor based near Rajguru Nagar face very different evening roads to reach the same house. Tell NXTutors the paper, the colony and the hour you can offer, and we come back with two or three maths tutors who fit all three. Every fee is on the shortlist before you meet anyone, and the first class is a free demo.

Who wrote this maths guide, and which papers does it deal with?

Ajay Vatsyayan is responsible for the parts on IB, IGCSE and ISC maths. Abhinandan Tiwary is responsible for the parts on Class 10 maths under CBSE and ICSE. The rest covers Ludhiana itself: the Punjab board, six colonies in the south and south-west, and how a weekly home lesson is organised.

What should a PSEB family ask of a maths tutor?

The Punjab School Education Board came into being through a legislative enactment in November 1969 to develop and promote school education in the state, and an amendment to its Act in 1987 gave it autonomy. Its work includes affiliating schools and compiling, publishing and selling textbooks, and its headquarters is at Vidya Bhawan in SAS Nagar (Mohali). Certificates for Classes 8, 10 and 12 can be fetched from DigiLocker. We do not set out a PSEB maths paper here: the board publishes its own scheme, and the current version on pseb.ac.in is the one to plan from.

That leaves the question of fit, and four checks settle the bulk of it:

  • The board's own book. Because PSEB prepares its textbooks, exercises should come from the book your child was given, with practice drawn from papers the board itself releases.
  • The language of the working. Some children write maths in Punjabi, some in Hindi, some in English. The tutor should explain in the language the answer sheet will be written in, using the textbook's terms.
  • Steps on paper. On any board, a solution set out line by line is easier for an examiner to credit and for a parent to check.
  • The road after Class 10. A child heading for non-medical science in Class 11, or for JEE, needs algebra and geometry made firm now, not just enough for the Class 10 result.

Our page on Punjab board tutors in Ludhiana covers the board across subjects.

Which CBSE Class 10 maths units carry the marks in 2026-27?

CBSE spreads the 80 board marks over 14 NCERT chapters in seven units, and the design of the paper is unchanged from last session. A tutor who knows the weights can put each week where it pays:

CBSE Class 10 maths 2026-27: units with their board marks and the weekly habit a Ludhiana tutor should build
UnitBoard marksHabit to build each week
Algebra (polynomials, linear pairs, quadratics, APs)20Turn every word problem into an equation before solving anything
Geometry (triangles, circles)15Write a reason beside each statement of a proof
Trigonometry, with heights and distances12Draw and label the figure first, then pick the ratio
Statistics and probability11Check the arithmetic in grouped tables column by column
Mensuration10Carry units through when solids are joined or cut
Real numbers6Treat short questions as marks to bank, not to rush
Coordinate geometry6Sketch the points on rough axes before using a formula

Algebra and geometry together make up 35 of the 80, which is why a tutor who spends the first term mostly on those two units is not neglecting the rest. The Class 10 maths preparation guide walks through each chapter in turn.

How is the Class 10 paper laid out, and what changed with two exams?

CBSE Class 10 maths paper, five sections: how many questions, marks per question, and the drill that suits each
SectionQuestions × marksDrill at home
A20 × 1 (18 MCQ, 2 assertion–reason)Quick sets, with every option justified aloud
B5 × 2Two clean lines of working, no more
C6 × 3Middle-length answers with each step shown
D4 × 5Long problems written as if for an examiner
E3 × 4, case studiesRead the situation twice before touching numbers

No calculator goes into the hall, and π means 22/7 unless the question gives another value. Standard and Basic share their chapters but not their demand: about 54% of the Standard paper sits on recall and understanding, against about 75% for Basic. Choose Standard whenever Class 11 maths is a real possibility, and ask the school for its deadline.

Since 2026 the board holds a compulsory main exam for Class 10 and then an optional second sitting, in which a student may try to raise the result in as many as three subjects, maths among them. No 2027 dates are out yet (watch cbse.gov.in), so plan the year around the main sitting. Our board-year planner maps the months, and the Class 10 maths tutor page shows how we match for that year.

Class 12 board maths and JEE Main: can one tutor carry both?

Often, yes, if the week keeps the two jobs separate. In the CBSE Class 12 paper, all 38 questions are compulsory, the total is 80, and calculus by itself is worth 35, so it earns a slot in every week of the session rather than a rush in winter. Last year's JEE Main Paper 1 (2026) asked 75 questions worth 300 marks; maths had 25 of them, twenty with options and five needing a typed number, scored plus four for a right answer and minus one for a wrong one. NTA posts each new pattern on jeemain.nta.nic.in.

For a Ludhiana student who also goes to a coaching batch, a workable split is one home session spent on the coaching sheet's unsolved problems and one on a full-length board answer, marked before the tutor goes. Read the guide to Class 12 calculus and algebra, our JEE maths topics, one by one, and the Class 12 maths tutor page; for all three JEE subjects, see JEE home tutors in Ludhiana.

What does a tutor need to know for ICSE, ISC, IB or IGCSE maths?

  • ICSE Class 10. A written paper out of 80, topped up by 20 internal marks. Our ICSE Class 10 maths guide shows how working is credited.
  • ISC Class 12. In 2027 and 2028, candidates face one 80-mark paper built from seven units, with no Section B or C choice left; vectors, 3-D geometry, linear programming and probability are for everyone, and calculus counts for 35. Twenty more marks come from two projects, each out of 10 (format 1, content 4, findings 2, viva 3). The ICSE and ISC maths guide has both years.
  • IB Diploma. AA is built round algebra, functions, calculus and proof and has one non-calculator paper; AI is built round modelling and statistics and uses a graphic display calculator in every paper. Exam weights: SL 40% + 40%, HL 30% + 30% + 20%, and the exploration supplies the remaining 20%, written by the student alone. See our IB maths AA or AI guide.
  • Cambridge IGCSE. The Core tier tops out at grade C; Extended spans A* to G. Settle the tier early with the school, and if a board change is being weighed, read our note on moving from CBSE to IB or IGCSE.

Specialists in these courses are scarcer than PSEB or CBSE teachers, so put the course name in your first message. Where no one nearby is free, an online specialist can take the course work while a local tutor marks the written practice.

What should you arrange for a maths tutor in six south and south-west colonies?

Ludhiana's tutors mostly travel by two-wheeler, car or auto, and the colonies below sit in two neighbouring zones: the plotted blocks between Pakhowal Road and Ferozepur Road, and the southern belt from Model Town to Dugri. You can compare tutors colony by colony on our Ludhiana page.

Plotted blocks off Pakhowal Road

Sarabha Nagar is a main residential locality of the south-west, mostly independent houses on plotted streets, with builder floors making up much of the rented stock. Many lanes look alike, so send the house number with a nearby turning. BRS Nagar next door is similar: independent houses, builder floors and a few shops in lettered blocks. Give the block letter as well as the house number, and if you live on an upper floor, say whether there is a lift.

The central link and the established south

Gurdev Nagar, mainly houses and plots, sits between the Sarabha Nagar side and Model Town, so tutors can come from several directions without crossing the whole city; street parking for a two-wheeler is usually easy. Model Town mixes independent houses and builder floors with market streets that fill up in the evening, so families on the market roads often take an earlier slot.

Dugri and the main road

Dugri grew from an old village settlement, with Urban Estate Dugri laid out beside it. In the urban estate the house number is usually enough; near the old village centre, share a landmark and a phone number for the first visit. Along Pakhowal Road, homes range from flats to houses on side roads, so name the colony and the turning, not just the road, and expect some apartment buildings to ask the tutor to sign in.

The zone pages for Ferozepur Road West and Pakhowal Road and Dugri add tips for the wider area, and the Ludhiana home tuition guide covers all four zones of the city.

What might two weeks of Class 10 maths tuition look like?

Every child is different, but parents often ask what "two sessions a week" actually contains. Here is one shape for a Class 10 student on any board, with four home sessions over a fortnight:

A sample fortnight of Class 10 maths home tuition: four sessions and what each one is for
SessionMain workLeft for the student
1The school's current chapter, taught from the child's own book, with the tutor watching each stepOne textbook exercise, done in full
2Homework checked line by line; errors sorted into arithmetic, reading or conceptA short set aimed at the error type that came up again and again
3Return to a heavier unit from earlier in the year, such as algebra or geometryTwo proofs or word problems written out neatly
4A timed mixed section in the board's style, marked together at the endCorrections, and a note of what to bring next week

Close to the board exam, session four becomes a longer session with a full paper.

How can you tell, in one free demo, whether the tutor will work?

Hand the tutor whatever chapter the class has reached at school, not a topic of their choosing, and notice:

  1. Listening first. Does the tutor ask your child to attempt something before explaining?
  2. Mistakes given a name. Calculation, misreading and a missing idea are three different problems with three different cures.
  3. Board-shaped working. Lines should be set out the way a PSEB, CBSE or CISCE marker wants to see them.
  4. Clear next steps. You leave knowing what comes next and what homework the tutor will look at.

Not the right person? Say so and the next tutor on your shortlist gives a demo; a switch later on costs nothing either. Our parents' demo class checklist adds more questions.

Home, online or a mix?

Sitting beside the student, a tutor catches a wrong sign as the pen moves, which counts for young children and for geometry proofs. Online suits a specialist who lives across Ludhiana, or an evening when coaching overruns, and plenty of families keep one of each in the week. Read home tutor or online tutor for the trade-offs.

How much does a maths home tutor in Ludhiana charge?

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Each tutor sets their own rate. Board and class, the tutor's record with that syllabus, the ride to your colony at your hour and the number of weekly sessions all move it. Fees appear on the shortlist before any demo, and our article on home tuition fees in Ludhiana suggests what to ask.

What should your message to us include?

Tell us the class; the syllabus in full (PSEB, CBSE Standard or Basic, ICSE, ISC, IB or IGCSE); your colony and a landmark; the days and times on offer; and a budget. Two or three maths tutors come back with their fees, and you pick one for the free demo. Tutors who join go through an ID check; the Verified badge appears only after the ID check is complete (how we check tutors). When no suitable tutor can get to your colony at that time, we propose online or part-online lessons. NXTutors is based in Sector 66, Gurugram, and teaches online nationwide. The national maths home tutor page explains our matching elsewhere, and Ludhiana's science and physics pages cover the next subjects up.

Maths Home Tutor in Ludhiana: common questions

What moves the hourly rate of a maths home tutor in Ludhiana?

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Each Ludhiana maths tutor sets their own rate; board and class, their record with that syllabus, the ride to your colony at your hour and weekly sessions all move it, and fees appear before any demo.

What should a Ludhiana message for a maths tutor include?

A Ludhiana message for a maths tutor should include the class, full syllabus such as PSEB or CBSE Standard, colony with a landmark, free times and budget. We send two or three matched tutors, each fee shown before the first class. The first class is a free demo, and switching tutor later is free.

Can a Ludhiana maths tutor teach from the PSEB textbook in Punjabi?

Yes, we look for Ludhiana maths tutors who teach from the textbook PSEB prepares and explain in Punjabi, Hindi or English, matching the answer-sheet language. They practise from papers the board releases; PSEB publishes its own scheme, so confirm the current paper format on pseb.ac.in.

Which south-west Ludhiana colonies do maths tutors reach?

Our maths tutors reach Sarabha Nagar, BRS Nagar and Gurdev Nagar in south-west Ludhiana, plus Model Town, Dugri and Pakhowal Road to the south. Tutors in the next colony are tried first; if nobody suitable can reach you at your hour, we suggest online or mixed lessons.

Which CBSE Class 10 maths units should a Ludhiana tutor spend the first term on?

A Ludhiana tutor should spend the first CBSE Class 10 maths term mostly on algebra and geometry, which carry 20 and 15 of the 80 board marks. Trigonometry follows with 12, statistics and probability 11, mensuration 10, and real numbers and coordinate geometry 6 each.

How should a Ludhiana Class 10 student pick between Standard and Basic CBSE maths?

A Ludhiana Class 10 student should pick Standard CBSE maths if Class 11 maths is a real possibility. Both cover the same chapters for 80 marks, but about 75% of Basic rests on recall and understanding against about 54% of Standard. Schools fix the choice at registration, so check the deadline.

How can one Ludhiana maths tutor split the week between coaching sheets and Class 12 board answers?

One Ludhiana maths tutor can split the week between coaching sheets and board answers if each session has a separate job. One session can clear unsolved coaching-sheet problems and another a full board answer, since CBSE Class 12 calculus is worth 35 of 80 marks and long answers need complete working.

What does the ISC Class 12 maths paper look like for Ludhiana students in 2027 and 2028?

For Ludhiana ISC students in 2027 and 2028, Class 12 maths is one 80-mark paper of seven units with no Section B or C choice. Everyone studies vectors, 3-D geometry, linear programming and probability, calculus counts for 35, and two projects add 20, each marked on format, content, findings and viva.

What should a Sarabha Nagar or BRS Nagar family tell a maths tutor before the first visit?

A Sarabha Nagar or BRS Nagar family in Ludhiana should send the house number, the block letter and a nearby turning, because many lanes look alike. On an upper floor, mention whether there is a lift; in an apartment building, give the guard the tutor's name.

When does online maths make sense for a Ludhiana child instead of a home visit?

Online maths makes sense for a Ludhiana child when a specialist lives across the city or coaching overruns, while a home tutor suits young children and geometry proofs. For IB, IGCSE or ISC, an online specialist can take the course work while a local tutor marks written practice.
