Tutors who join go through an ID check. Tell us the class, board and your area: we share two or three matched tutors, each with their fee, and the first class is a free demo, at home or online.
Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

The Punjab School Education Board, almost always shortened to PSEB, is one of the main boards Ludhiana children study under, beside CBSE and CISCE, and its textbooks come in Punjabi, Hindi and English versions. The board puts an unusual amount of useful material on its own website: textbooks, syllabi, a question bank, the exact structure of each question paper and model test papers, renewed session by session. A good PSEB tutor works from those documents, not from an old guidebook. This page explains what the board publishes, how its 2026-27 papers in maths and science are built, how school-based marks work, what a family should know before changing school or board, the open school route, and how to choose and test a tutor across Ludhiana. Every board fact below comes from pseb.ac.in, read for the 2026-27 session; check it again for your child's year.
According to its own history page, PSEB came into being through a legislative enactment in November 1969 to develop and promote school education in Punjab, and an amendment to its Act in 1987 made it autonomous. Its head office is Vidya Bhawan, Phase-8, SAS Nagar (Mohali). Among its functions, the board arranges the affiliation of schools and compiles, publishes and sells textbooks. It examines students at three points: Class 8, Class 10, which it calls Matriculation, and Class 12, called Senior Secondary. Certificates for Classes 8, 10 and 12 are available on DigiLocker.
The practical point for a Ludhiana parent is simple. Because the board writes its own textbooks and publishes the rules for each paper centrally, the most reliable teaching material is on one website, and it changes from session to session. A tutor who prepares from a previous year's photocopies may be teaching to a structure the board has already revised.
| Material | What it is | How a tutor uses it |
|---|---|---|
| Books and e-books | The board's textbooks, with versions in Punjabi, Hindi and English for many subjects | Teach from the book your child's school uses, in the same language |
| Syllabus | Session-wise syllabus pages and schemes of studies | Confirm which chapters are in this year's course before planning |
| Structure of question paper | For 2026-27, the number of questions, marks per type and choices, subject by subject | Build every test to the same pattern |
| Model test papers | Sample papers for Classes 8, 10 and 12 for 2026-27 | Full timed practice before the pre-boards |
| Question bank | Banks of questions by class and subject | Chapter-end practice and quick recall checks |
| Versions for D.A. students | Separate structures and model papers for differently abled students | Use these where they apply to your child |
Ask any tutor you meet which of these they have opened this session. The answer tells you more than a list of years spent teaching.
Mathematics. The paper carries 80 marks, with 20 more from internal assessment. All 18 questions are compulsory and fall in four sections. Section A is a single question made of 20 one-mark multiple-choice items. Section B has seven two-mark questions, Section C seven four-mark questions and Section D three six-mark questions. Internal choice appears in some four-mark and six-mark questions, and one question is a case study. The board also sets out the spread of difficulty: 30% of the marks below average, 40% average and 30% above average. The above-average share is where steady practice on the six-mark problems pays off.
Science. Again 80 marks plus 20 internal, but with 23 questions grouped into three units: physics, chemistry and biology. Question 1 is 20 multiple-choice items of one mark each. Questions 2 to 13 are two-mark answers that should run to about 30 to 50 words; questions 14 to 20 are three-mark answers of about 50 to 80 words; questions 21 to 23 are five-mark answers of about 80 to 120 words, set as source-based or case-study questions. There is no overall choice, only internal choice within some questions.
| Feature of the paper | Practice that matches it |
|---|---|
| 20 one-mark MCQs in each paper | A short MCQ set at the start of every session, marked at once |
| Word ranges for science answers | Write to length: a two-mark answer that runs to a page loses time elsewhere |
| Six-mark maths problems | One long problem every week, with full working, from Class 9 onwards |
| Source-based and case-study questions | Read a short passage or situation, then answer from it, not from memory alone |
Our maths and science pages for Ludhiana go into the subjects across all boards.
| Subject | Marks | Points worth knowing |
|---|---|---|
| Mathematics | 80 theory, 20 internal | 18 questions in four sections, like Class 10; calculators not permitted |
| Physics | 70-mark theory paper | 19 questions; about a fifth of the weight on numericals; a non-programmable calculator and log tables allowed; marks spread across knowledge, understanding, application and analysis |
| Chemistry | 70 theory, 25 practical, 5 internal | 21 questions, including assertion-reason items; numericals around a fifth |
| Biology | 70 theory, 25 practical, 5 internal | 20 questions; diagram-based and comparison questions, a "draw, label and explain" answer and a case-study question |
Two habits follow. Because practical work carries a quarter of the marks in chemistry and biology, the practical file and the experiments deserve regular attention, not a rush in the final month. And because the maths paper bans calculators while physics allows a basic one, a student should practise each subject under its own rule. Students preparing for entrance exams beside the board should read our JEE and NEET pages for Ludhiana, which compare these papers with the national tests. Subject pages: physics, chemistry and biology.
In many subjects a fifth of the marks is internal assessment, which the board calls INA, and its 2026-27 module for Class 10 lists what makes it up. There are three broad parts: periodic assessment through a pre-board or term exam; subject enrichment activities, which for languages cover listening, speaking, reading and writing and for other subjects a practical or project, including charts and models; and a portfolio of class work, quizzes and similar records. The board publishes a similar module for Class 12 and a CCE module for Class 8. For 2026-27 it has also issued a circular on giving importance to school-level examinations in the board examinations.
For a tutor, the lesson is that school tests and classwork are not a sideshow. A good PSEB tutor checks the notebook, helps the student prepare for the term exam as seriously as for the board paper, and supervises the project, while leaving the student to make and write it.
The board's 2026-27 notices cover the common cases. There is a schedule and process for school-to-school transfer from Class 8 to Class 12; revised instructions on the qualifications and conditions for admission in those classes; an inter-board migration schedule for Classes 8 to 12, requested through the board's registration portal; and a schedule for the documents needed to give registration numbers to Class 9 and 11 students arriving from other states or boards. Schools handle these steps, but parents should ask early which documents are needed, because missing papers hold up registration.
Academically, a child arriving from CBSE or ICSE meets new textbooks, possibly a different language of instruction, and question types fixed by the board's structures. Spend the first weeks on the PSEB book for each subject and one model test paper under timing. A child leaving PSEB for CBSE or ICSE needs the reverse: NCERT's wording and competency questions, or CISCE's long written answers. See our CBSE and ICSE and ISC pages for Ludhiana, and the guide to choosing a board and stream.
Our Ludhiana hub notes that some students learn most easily in Punjabi, some in Hindi and some in English, and many mix them. PSEB's books come in versions for each, so ask for a tutor who can teach from the same version your child uses and practise answers with the terms printed in it. Explaining an idea in another language is fine; written practice should follow the paper's language. When you send a request, give us board, class and medium together.
The board's syllabus pages run well beyond maths and science: Punjabi as two Class 10 papers (A and B), Hindi, English, social science, computer science, agriculture, home science, music, drawing and painting, physical education and, at Class 10, foreign languages such as French and German. At Senior Secondary the list widens to the commerce subjects, economics, geography, political science, psychology and many more. Home tuition suits the core academic papers most; for practical and performance subjects the school's own teaching matters most. For the English paper, see English home tutors in Ludhiana and the national English tutor page.
A weekly plan only holds if the tutor's trip is easy to repeat. We look for tutors near you first, then in your zone, then across the city, and online beyond that. Six localities as examples:
Every locality, including those in Ferozepur Road West, is on the Ludhiana home tutors page, and our Ludhiana home tuition guide covers timing zone by zone. If no suitable tutor lives nearby, one home visit and one online class a week is often steadier; see online tutors for Ludhiana.
We send two or three matched tutors and show each fee before you book; the first class is a free demo and switching tutor later is free. Tutors who join go through an ID check; the Verified badge appears only after our team has reviewed the ID. The demo class checklist has more questions.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Each tutor sets their own fee. The pricing guide and our post on home tuition fees in Ludhiana explain what moves it.
Send the class, the stream at Senior Secondary, the medium, whether your child is a school or open school student, your locality with a landmark, and the times that suit you. The first class is a free demo, and you can browse tutor profiles first. If you teach PSEB subjects yourself, see tuition jobs in Ludhiana or the Punjab tuition jobs page.
Send the class, the stream if your child is in Senior Secondary, the medium of the textbooks, and your locality with a landmark. We shortlist two or three PSEB tutors, nearest first, and show each fee before you book. The first class is a free demo, at home or online, and switching later is free.
On pseb.ac.in, under Structure of Question Paper, which lists the 2026-27 pattern subject by subject, alongside model test papers, a question bank, syllabi and the board's books. Separate versions exist for differently abled students. Ask your tutor to build every practice test to the current structure, not last year's.
It carries 80 marks plus 20 internal. All 18 questions are compulsory, in four sections: 20 one-mark multiple-choice items, then seven two-mark, seven four-mark and three six-mark questions, with one case study and internal choice in some longer questions. The board spreads difficulty as 30% below average, 40% average, 30% above.
The board's 2026-27 INA module for Class 10 lists periodic assessment through a pre-board or term exam, subject enrichment activities such as listening, speaking, reading and writing or a practical project, and a portfolio of class work and quizzes. A tutor can supervise and check these, but the student must do the work.
The board publishes 2026-27 schedules for inter-board migration in Classes 8 to 12, admission conditions, and the documents needed to register Class 9 and 11 students from other boards. The schools handle the process, so start early. Academically, expect new textbooks and fixed question types, and practise one model paper under timing.
In the language of your child's textbooks and exam paper. PSEB publishes its books in Punjabi, Hindi and English versions, so ask for a tutor who can teach from the same version. Explaining in another language is fine, but written practice should use the terms printed in the book.
Yes, and such students often benefit most, because no classroom sets their pace. The board runs an open school route for Matriculation and Senior Secondary, with online admissions announced for 2026-27. A tutor can build a weekly plan from the syllabus and set a model paper every few weeks under exam timing.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Each tutor sets their own fee, and you see it before the free demo.
