Tutors who join go through an ID check. Tell us the class, board and your area: we share two or three matched tutors, each with their fee, and the first class is a free demo, at home or online.
Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

In many Vizag homes a child thinks in Telugu, chats in a mix of languages and is examined in English. The needs that follow are quite different. One student reads well but loses marks on letter formats and word limits; another understands every lesson yet freezes when asked to write a full paragraph; a third is moving from Telugu-medium to English-medium books; a fourth needs spoken English as much as board marks. Before we look for anyone, we ask which course your child follows (the AP SSC or Intermediate course, CBSE, ICSE or ISC, or an international one), which skill is weakest, and where you live. We then send two or three English tutors who fit, with fees shown, and the first class with the one you pick is a free demo.
| The need | What it looks like | Tutor to ask for |
|---|---|---|
| Board marks | Good understanding, but answers run long, miss the format or ignore the text | Someone who knows your board's paper and marks against its scheme |
| A change of medium | A move from Telugu-medium study into English-medium books | A tutor comfortable explaining in both languages at first |
| Speaking | Written work is fine, but the child goes quiet in class discussions or interviews | A tutor who builds talk into every lesson |
| Early reading | A young child who guesses at words or avoids books | A primary specialist, not a senior-class teacher |
Most children have one main need and a second smaller one. Name the main one in your request, because it changes whom we shortlist.
The Board of Secondary Education, Andhra Pradesh conducts the SSC public examinations and posts model question papers, blueprints and weightage tables on bse.ap.gov.in; the Board of Intermediate Education runs the first-year and second-year Intermediate course through bie.ap.gov.in. Each sets its own English syllabus and paper, so our advice on them stays general. A tutor for a state-board student should plan from the prescribed books and the board's blueprints and model papers, teach in the language the student reads most easily until English takes over, and take formats and dates only from the official sites. The AP board tutor in Visakhapatnam page covers the state course across subjects.
Start with literature, because it is worth 40, exactly half the board paper. Questions come from First Flight and Footprints without Feet, and the marks go to answers that stay on the question, keep within the stated word limit and point back to the text. Reading brings another 20: one discursive passage and one case-based factual passage that carries a chart or some data. The last 20 split evenly between grammar, drawn from the syllabus list, and writing, which is a formal letter worth 5 and an analytical paragraph worth 5 that interprets a chart, map or graph.
Inside the school, 20 more marks are awarded, and 5 of those test listening and speaking. In lessons this suggests a simple order of priorities: two literature answers planned and marked each week, one unseen passage timed and checked line against line with the source, letter and paragraph formats learned once and then used, and grammar fixed from the mistakes in the student's own writing rather than from worksheets.
Think of it as three stages rather than one leap. The length of each depends on the child, so agree the plan, not a calendar.
| Stage | Lesson language | What the child does |
|---|---|---|
| Bridging | Telugu explanations, English text | Turns short passages from one language into the other, so the tutor sees where word order goes wrong |
| Building | Mostly English, Telugu when stuck | Reads a little English daily, keeps a word list in their own definitions, and writes answers with stock openings and linking words |
| Standing alone | English only | Answers, discussion and homework all in English, from a date agreed with the family |
Yes, and it fits well, since CBSE, ICSE and ISC all award marks for listening and speaking. A tutor can close each lesson with a short spoken summary of the day's passage, then build towards small talks and question-and-answer practice. If your family wants speaking confidence for interviews or college as much as marks, say so in the request. Our spoken English guide for students sets out what tends to work.
At this age the goal is a child who enjoys reading, not one who knows exam formats. Watch for the signs that help is needed: guessing words from the first letter, losing the line, refusing to read aloud, or retelling a story with nothing in the right order. A primary tutor answers these with letter sounds and blending, shared reading in which the adult corrects without fuss, and short retellings in the child's own words. Short, frequent sessions tend to beat one long one. Where little English is spoken at home, a tutor who chats about pictures and simple stories, reaching for a Telugu word only as a last resort, grows listening alongside reading.
Teachers for ISC and the international courses are thin on the ground in Vizag, so many families use an online specialist. The national English home tutor guide treats each course in depth.
Most tutors travel by two-wheeler, auto or city bus, so a tutor from your own side of the city is usually the steadiest choice. Our Visakhapatnam home tuition page lists every locality.
Akkayyapalem lies along the road through the middle of the city, with NT College Road and 80 Feet Road as its main streets. Buses come in from Gajuwaka, NAD X Road and Pendurthi, so a tutor rarely needs to change buses. Maddilapalem, mostly apartment buildings, has a city bus depot and a BRTS road running through; give building security the tutor's name before the first visit.
Pedda Waltair, whose name was once used for the whole town, is mostly houses and apartment buildings a little inland from Beach Road; add the tutor to the visitor list if you live in a block. Lawsons Bay Colony is quieter and close to the sea, with city buses to Dwaraka Nagar and Jagadamba Centre; a weekday after-school slot is simpler than a weekend evening.
Visalakshi Nagar is mainly mid-rise apartments near Tenneti Park and the zoological park, and families usually find tutors from MVP Colony or Sagar Nagar. Sagar Nagar, in the Rushikonda ward, is quieter than the central districts; a city bus reaches it, but check parking for a tutor on a two-wheeler.
The Visakhapatnam home tuition guide compares all five zones.
Writing can be taught well on a screen once a child is in about Class 3, on one condition: the tutor sees the notebook before the lesson, through photos or a shared document. Online also reaches ISC, IGCSE and IB teachers who may live in another part of Vizag or another state. Keep lessons at home for early readers, for the first stage of a change of medium, and for a child whose speaking opens up more easily in person. If the most suitable tutor lives far from you, split the week: one visit at home and one session online.
Mostly "no"? Let us know; the next shortlisted tutor gives a demo, and a later change of tutor costs nothing. The demo class checklist for parents has more.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Rates are each tutor's own; the class and course, familiarity with that paper, the journey at the hour you need and the number of weekly lessons all play a part. You see every fee on the shortlist before the demo, and the Visakhapatnam home tuition fees article covers the questions worth asking.
Send the class and course, the skill that worries you (reading, writing, grammar, literature or speaking), the language your child is most at ease in, your locality and a landmark, your days and times, and a budget. We reply with two or three matched tutors and their fees. Tutors who join go through an ID check; the Verified badge appears only after our team has reviewed the ID (how we check tutors). For other subjects, see the maths and science tutor pages for Vizag, or the online tutor in Visakhapatnam page. Yes. We look for tutors who plan from the prescribed books and from the model papers and blueprints the Andhra Pradesh boards publish, and who can explain in Telugu while confidence grows. Our notes on those papers stay general, so ask at the demo how the tutor will plan the year.
Literature carries 40 of the 80 board marks in 2026-27, reading 20, and grammar and writing 10 each, the writing being a formal letter and an analytical paragraph. Schools add 20 internal marks, 5 of them for listening and speaking. Focused literature answers within the word limit matter most.
Yes. Good tutors plan it in stages: Telugu explanations with English texts at first, then mostly English with daily reading and a personal word list, and finally English-only lessons from an agreed date. Mention in your request which language your child currently reads with most ease.
In most cases. Listening and speaking earn marks on CBSE, ICSE and ISC, so a spoken summary at the end of each lesson and the odd short talk sit comfortably inside exam preparation. If interview or college confidence matters to you as much as marks, say so; it changes the shortlist.
City bus routes pass through and link the colony with the railway station, Dwaraka Nagar and Jagadamba Centre, and a short auto ride finishes the trip. Most families live in apartment blocks with a security desk, so share the tutor's name and arrival time beforehand.
From about Class 3 upwards it usually does, if the tutor receives the notebook beforehand as photos or a shared file. It also makes ISC, IGCSE and IB specialists from other places available. Early readers, and children just starting a change of medium, are generally better served by lessons at home.
