What home tuition costs in Visakhapatnam

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.

Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

Maths home tutor in Visakhapatnam: start from the paper your child will sit, then from the road your home is on

Ask three Vizag parents what "Class 10 maths" means and you may hear three answers: the SSC public examination of the Andhra Pradesh board, a CBSE paper, or an ICSE one. Two years on, the same families are weighing Intermediate or Class 12 maths against an engineering entrance. Each paper rewards its own habits, so the teacher who suits a neighbour may not suit your child, and in a city that runs from Gajuwaka up the coast to Madhurawada, a tutor's home decides which evenings they can keep. Give NXTutors the course and the locality, and we come back with two or three maths tutors who fit both. Every fee is shown before you meet anyone, and the first class is a free demo.

Six maths courses, six sets of examiners: which one is your child on?

Two named authors stand behind the exam sections of this page. Ajay Vatsyayan writes on IB, IGCSE and ISC maths; Abhinandan Tiwary writes on Class 10 maths for CBSE and ICSE. Whatever the course, the matching starts with one fact: who sets and marks the final paper. That single answer fixes the textbook, the way a full-credit solution is laid out and the kind of practice worth doing.

SSC and Intermediate maths on the Andhra Pradesh boards: what to settle with a tutor

The state splits the job between two bodies. The Board of Secondary Education, Andhra Pradesh conducts the SSC public examinations at the end of Class 10, along with the OSSC and the Advanced Supplementary examinations. On its website it posts model question papers, blueprints and weightage tables, including a set for the SSC Public Examination 2027. After SSC, the Board of Intermediate Education, Andhra Pradesh runs the two Intermediate years, with general and vocational courses. Both boards revise their own schemes, so we leave the paper's design to them and point families to the official sites.

What a parent can judge is fit. Four questions sort most tutors quickly:

  • Does the plan follow the weightage table? A tutor who has read the board's own table spends time where the marks are.
  • Which medium will the lessons use? A child who writes in Telugu needs the terms explained and marked in Telugu; a child moving into English-medium maths needs both languages for a while, then English alone.
  • Is every step written down? Examiners credit working they can see. A tutor should insist on a line-by-line layout from the first week.
  • What happens after SSC? A student planning Intermediate maths, or an engineering entrance later, needs algebra and geometry made firm in Classes 9 and 10, not only enough to clear the public examination.

Families who want a tutor centred on the state syllabus across subjects can also look at the AP board tutor in Visakhapatnam page.

CBSE Class 10 maths in 2026-27: where the 80 board marks sit

The board paper draws on 14 NCERT chapters, grouped into seven units, and CBSE has kept last session's design. A tutor who plans by weight rather than by chapter order would divide the year roughly as follows.

CBSE Class 10 maths, 2026-27: units by share of the 80 board marks, and a quick test a Vizag tutor can set for each
UnitMarks of 80Quick test of readiness
Algebra: polynomials, linear pairs, quadratic equations, arithmetic progressions20Can the student write the equation from a story problem without help?
Geometry: triangles and circles15Does every line of a proof carry its reason?
Trigonometry, with heights and distances12Is the figure drawn and labelled before any ratio is picked?
Statistics and probability11Are totals in a grouped table checked column by column?
Mensuration10Do units survive every line when solids are combined?
Real numbers; coordinate geometry6 and 6Are the short items answered carefully rather than rushed?

The paper has five lettered parts. Part A is twenty one-mark items, eighteen multiple-choice and two of the assertion–reason type. Part B asks five questions at two marks, Part C six at three, Part D four at five, and Part E closes with three case studies worth four marks apiece. Calculators stay outside the hall, and π is taken as 22/7 unless a question says otherwise.

Standard and Basic cover identical chapters, but they ask for different thinking: around 54% of Standard marks test remembering and understanding, compared with around 75% in Basic. If maths in Class 11 is at all likely, Standard keeps that door open; the school sets the date by which you must choose. Since 2026 every Class 10 student writes one compulsory main examination and may then sit an optional second one to improve up to three subjects, maths among them. The 2027 dates are not yet out, so follow cbse.gov.in. The Class 10 maths preparation guide goes chapter by chapter, the board-year planner lays out the months, and the Class 10 maths tutor page explains how we match for that year.

Intermediate, CBSE Class 12 and JEE: giving the home tutor a job of its own

By the senior years many Vizag students already sit through long days of lectures and entrance practice. A home tutor who delivers the same lecture again wastes the slot. The useful work is narrower: solve the problems the week's sheets left open, read the student's written working closely, and keep the board paper from slipping while entrance practice takes over the calendar.

The papers want different things. CBSE Class 12 maths sets 38 questions, none of them optional, for 80 marks, and calculus by itself is worth 35, which is why it deserves the biggest share of each week from the first term. JEE Main 2026 Paper 1 had 75 questions for 300 marks. Of its 25 maths questions, twenty offered options and five needed a numerical answer; a correct response scored four and a wrong one lost a mark. NTA republishes the pattern each year on jeemain.nta.nic.in. Intermediate students should take their board scheme from bie.ap.gov.in, and anyone sitting the state's own entrance test should read its rules only on that test's official site.

One pattern that holds up well: a weekly session on the hardest entrance problems, and a second on one long board answer written in full and marked line by line. The Class 12 calculus and algebra guide, the JEE maths topic plan and our Class 12 maths tutor page go further, and the JEE home tutor in Visakhapatnam page covers entrance preparation across subjects.

ICSE, ISC, IB and IGCSE maths: the differences a tutor must know

Maths on the CISCE and international courses: what is examined and what to confirm before the first lesson
CourseWhat is examinedConfirm before lessons start
ICSE Class 10A written paper out of 80, and 20 from internal assessmentThat the tutor marks working the CISCE way; see our ICSE Class 10 maths guide
ISC Class 12For the 2027 and 2028 exams, one 80-mark paper in seven units with no Section B or C choice, so vectors, three-dimensional geometry, linear programming and probability are for all; calculus 35. Two projects add 20, each scored out of 10: format 1, content 4, findings 2, viva 3That revision books match the new layout; our ICSE and ISC maths guide sets out both years
IB DiplomaAnalysis and Approaches leans on algebra, functions, calculus and proof and includes a paper without a calculator; Applications and Interpretation leans on modelling and statistics, with a graphic display calculator throughout. SL: two papers at 40% each. HL: two at 30% and one at 20%. The exploration, the student's own work, supplies the final 20% at both levelsWhich of the two courses, and which level; read the IB maths AA or AI guide
Cambridge IGCSECore entry tops out at grade C; Extended opens A* to GThe tier, agreed with the school before entries close; families changing board can read about switching from CBSE to IB or IGCSE

Teachers for these four courses are scarcer in Vizag than state-board or CBSE teachers, so put the course in your first message. If no specialist can travel to you, an online specialist can lead while a local tutor checks the written practice at home.

Six Vizag localities: what to arrange before a maths tutor's first visit

Tutors in Vizag move by two-wheeler, auto, city bus and, for some routes, the train. A tutor who lives on your side of the city is the one most likely to keep an evening slot through the year. Compare tutors locality by locality on our Visakhapatnam home tuition page.

The city's middle

Dwaraka Nagar holds the city's central bus station, so buses from almost every direction end here, and Visakhapatnam Junction is close by. Homes sit in the lanes behind the shopfronts, in older apartment blocks and independent houses. Send the building name, the floor and a shop or landmark, and prefer an early-morning or later-evening class, when the main roads are calmer. Seethammadhara mixes older houses on garden plots with high-rise towers. In the bungalow streets a tutor can usually park at the gate; the towers keep a visitor register, so tell security in advance and allow a margin near the highway junctions at peak hours.

Behind Beach Road

MVP Colony is laid out in numbered sectors that look much alike, so always give the sector along with the house or flat number. A city bus between the RTC Complex and Bheemili passes through, and autos are easy to find on the double road. Next door, Lawsons Bay Colony is quieter and mostly apartments with a security desk; city bus routes link it with the railway station and Dwaraka Nagar. Weekday after-school slots work better here than weekend evenings, when the beach roads fill.

Up the coast and the highway

Sagar Nagar, between Beach Road and the road to Bheemunipatnam, is quieter than the central districts. A city bus reaches it from the railway station, but many tutors come by two-wheeler, so check there is space to park. Madhurawada is spread out along National Highway 16, with gated communities, apartment towers, villas and plots. Share the tower and flat number for the gate, and avoid fixing an evening class in the office-hour rush on the highway.

For more local detail, read the zone guides for Central Vizag and Beach Road and MVP Colony, or our Visakhapatnam home tuition guide.

Three checkpoints that show whether the tuition is working

One school test says little. These three moments tell a parent far more:

  1. After the first month. The tutor should be able to name your child's two or three recurring error types, such as sign slips, misread questions or a missing idea, and show the notebook where they are tracked.
  2. Before the half-yearly exams. Earlier chapters should be coming back in mixed practice each week, so that revision does not begin from cold.
  3. Two months before the board paper. Your child should have written complete papers under exam conditions and seen them marked against the board's scheme, not just finished the textbook.

If a checkpoint slips, raise it with the tutor; if nothing changes, tell us.

What to look for in the free maths demo

Ask the tutor to take the chapter your child is on at school, not a favourite topic prepared in advance. A promising demo usually shows these signs:

  • Listening before teaching. The tutor asks what your child already knows and works from there.
  • Mistakes named precisely. Arithmetic, reading and concept errors are told apart, because each needs its own remedy.
  • The examiner's layout. Working looks the way the SSC, CBSE or CISCE examiner expects to see it.
  • A visible plan. You leave knowing what the next few sessions cover and what homework will be checked.

If the fit is wrong, tell us and the next tutor on your shortlist gives a demo. A switch later in the year is free as well. The demo class checklist for parents lists more to watch, and the home tutor or online tutor article helps when the right specialist lives across the city.

How much does a maths home tutor in Visakhapatnam charge?

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Each tutor sets their own rate. In practice it moves with the course and class, the tutor's experience with that particular paper, the trip to your part of Vizag at your chosen hour, and the number of sessions each week. All shortlisted fees are on screen before the demo, and the Visakhapatnam home tuition fees article explains the questions worth asking.

What your request to us should contain

Five details let us match well: the class; the course by its full name (AP SSC, Intermediate, CBSE Standard or Basic, ICSE, ISC, IB or IGCSE); your locality with a landmark; the days and times you can offer; and a budget. We reply with two or three matched maths tutors and their fees, and you choose one for the free demo. If nobody suitable can reach your part of the city at that hour, we suggest an online or mixed plan. Tutors who join go through an ID check; the Verified badge appears only after our team has reviewed the ID, as explained on how we check tutors. NXTutors works from Sector 66, Gurugram, and teaches online across India; the national maths home tutor page shows how we work in other cities. For the sciences, see our physics and science tutor pages for Vizag.

Maths teachers who live in Visakhapatnam and want students near home can see open requests on the Visakhapatnam tuition jobs page.

Maths Home Tutor in Visakhapatnam: common questions

How should a Visakhapatnam family budget for weekly maths home tuition?

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Visakhapatnam tutors set their own rates, which move with the course and class, experience of that paper, the trip at your hour and sessions per week. The whole shortlist shows fees before you agree to a demo.

Do you find maths tutors for the AP SSC public examination in Visakhapatnam?

Yes, for AP SSC maths in Visakhapatnam we look for tutors who teach from your child's issued textbook, in Telugu or English as your child writes. They insist on line-by-line working and plan from the model papers, blueprints and weightage tables that the Board of Secondary Education, Andhra Pradesh posts on bse.ap.gov.in. Check rule changes there.

Which Visakhapatnam zones do your maths tutors serve?

Our maths tutors serve all five Visakhapatnam zones: Central Vizag, the Beach Road and MVP Colony belt, Madhurawada and the north, Gopalapatnam and the west, and Gajuwaka and the south. Tutors living close to you come first, then others from your zone and the wider city; when nobody can come at your hour, we suggest online lessons.

Which CBSE Class 10 maths unit should a Vizag student spend most time on?

A Visakhapatnam student in CBSE Class 10 should spend most time on algebra, which carries 20 of the 80 board marks. Geometry has 15, trigonometry 12, statistics and probability 11 and mensuration 10, while real numbers and coordinate geometry take 6 each. The 2026-27 paper keeps last session's design, so recent sample papers suit timed practice.

Standard or Basic maths in Class 10: what should a Visakhapatnam family choose?

A Visakhapatnam family should choose CBSE Standard maths in Class 10 if maths in Class 11 is a real possibility. Both levels share the same 14 chapters and 80 marks, but around 75% of Basic marks reward remembering and understanding, against about 54% in Standard. The school sets the choice deadline, so learn it early.

My Vizag child already attends entrance coaching; will a home maths tutor still help?

A home maths tutor usually still helps a Visakhapatnam student in entrance coaching, as long as the tutor takes a different role. The home session should clear unsolved problems from the week's sheets and keep board answers sharp. In CBSE Class 12, calculus alone is worth 35 of the 80 marks, and examiners credit only working they can follow.

Does the ISC Class 12 maths paper still offer a choice between Sections B and C for Vizag students?

No, for Visakhapatnam students sitting ISC Class 12 maths in 2027 and 2028, CISCE sets one 80-mark paper of seven units with no choice between Sections B and C. Every candidate answers vectors, three-dimensional geometry, linear programming and probability, and calculus carries 35 marks. Two projects add 20, so revision books from earlier years need checking.

How can we help a maths tutor find our house in MVP Colony?

Help a maths tutor find your MVP Colony home in Visakhapatnam by giving the sector number with the house or flat number, because the numbered sectors look alike. A city bus between the RTC Complex and Bheemili passes through and autos run on the double road. Apartment blocks may ask visitors to sign in, so tell the gate beforehand.

Should a Visakhapatnam IB or IGCSE maths student learn at home or online?

A Visakhapatnam IB or IGCSE maths student often ends up with an online specialist, because teachers for those courses are scarcer in Vizag than state-board or CBSE teachers. If no specialist can travel to you, the online tutor can lead while a local tutor checks written practice at home. Put the course in your first message.

What should our maths request to NXTutors include for a Vizag child?

A maths request for a Visakhapatnam child should include the class, full course name, locality with a landmark, the days and times you can offer, and a budget. We reply with two or three matched tutors, each fee shown before the first class. The first class is a free demo, and switching tutor later is free.

How can Visakhapatnam parents tell whether maths tuition is working?

Visakhapatnam parents can judge maths tuition at three checkpoints rather than one school test. After the first month, the tutor should name your child's recurring error types; before the half-yearly exams, earlier chapters should return in mixed practice; and two months before the board paper, your child should have written complete timed papers marked against the scheme.
