Tutors who join go through an ID check. Tell us the class, board and your area: we share two or three matched tutors, each with their fee, and the first class is a free demo, at home or online.
Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

In Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula, two children on the same street can be preparing for very different English exams. One sits CBSE's single Language and Literature paper, a neighbour writes two separate CISCE papers, a cousin in Mohali follows the Punjab board, and a family that has just arrived from abroad needs Cambridge IGCSE or IB help. NXTutors begins with that exam and with your sector or phase, then suggests two or three English tutors who fit both. You see every fee before you book, and the first lesson with the tutor you choose is a free demo. This page is written by the NXTutors Academic Team; for the full subject overview, read our national English home tutor guide.
The skills are always reading, writing, grammar, literature, speaking and listening, but the weight each board gives them decides where a tutor should spend the hour. The first three rows below come from the current CBSE and CISCE curriculum documents; the international rows from Cambridge's syllabuses for 2027 to 2029.
| Exam | How it is set | Where a tutor usually starts |
|---|---|---|
| CBSE Class 10 (184) | One board paper of 80: unseen reading 20, writing and grammar 20, literature 40; the school adds 20 | Literature answers written to length, and the formal letter and analytical paragraph |
| CBSE Class 12 English Core | Reading 22, creative writing 18, literature 40 from Flamingo and Vistas; 20 internal marks, including a project | Longer literature answers that connect chapters, since grammar has left the paper |
| ICSE Class 10 | Two papers, language and literature, each two hours and 80 marks, each with 20 internal marks | Timed composition of 300 to 350 words and the summary |
| ISC Class 12 | Two three-hour papers of 80, each with 20 marks of project work; a composition of 400 to 450 words | Planning a long composition and the proposal format |
| Cambridge IGCSE | First Language 0500 (Reading paper at 50%, then writing or coursework) or Second Language 0510 (Reading and Writing 70%, Listening 30%) | Confirming which of the two the school has entered |
| PSEB or BSEH | The state board's own English course, books and question paper | The prescribed textbook and the board's recent papers |
Question-by-question help for CISCE students is in our notes on ICSE Class 10 English papers and on ISC Class 12 English.
Chandigarh is a union territory, Mohali and Zirakpur sit in Punjab, and Panchkula is in Haryana. So alongside CBSE and CISCE, some Mohali-side families study under the Punjab School Education Board and some Panchkula families under the Board of School Education Haryana. We describe these two boards only in general terms. Each sets its own English course with its own prescribed books, publishes its own syllabus and notices, and writes its own question paper. A tutor should therefore plan from the textbook your child brings home and from the board's recent papers, and check the current syllabus on pseb.ac.in or bseh.org.in, rather than reuse CBSE worksheets.
The English problems we hear about are much the same on any board: a composition that runs out of ideas halfway, letters that lose marks on layout, and grammar that is right in exercises but wrong in the child's own writing. Those are fixed the same way, with frequent short writing and quick feedback, whatever the badge on the paper.
In a region that spans three administrations, changing board is common, and English is where the change shows first. A student moving from a state board to CBSE meets a literature section worth half the paper. One moving into ICSE suddenly writes two English papers instead of one, including a long composition against the clock. A student entering an IGCSE or IB classroom is asked to analyse how a writer creates an effect, not only to answer what happened. Tell us which move your child is making. We then look for a tutor who has taught the new course, and the first few weeks go on the skill the old board never asked for.
If the move is still a decision rather than a fact, our guide on choosing a board and stream sets out what to weigh.
No metro runs in the tricity yet, so tutors arrive by scooter, car, city bus or auto. The hour of the lesson matters more than the kilometres. Each zone below has its own page with travel notes and tutor profiles.
| Zone | How tutors travel | What to arrange |
|---|---|---|
| Chandigarh Sectors 1–30 | The Sector 17 bus terminal sits in the middle, so a tutor without a car can finish by auto | Block letter, house number and, for a builder floor, which bell to ring |
| Sectors 31–56 & Manimajra | The Sector 43 bus terminal serves the south-west; Housing Board Chowk is the pinch point for Manimajra | Sub-sector and flat number for housing-board blocks; a name at the gate in society sectors |
| Mohali | By road from the southern sectors or from within the phases; Airport Road for Aerocity | Phase or sector number; gate registration in apartment complexes |
| Panchkula & Zirakpur | Madhya Marg and the highway to Zirakpur, both slow at office hours | A one-time entry at the society gate and a visitor parking spot |
Sector 9 sits in the upper row of the grid, a sector of houses, bungalows and government residences near Jan Marg and Madhya Marg; the tutor rings at your own gate and nobody keeps a visitor list. Sector 22, the first sector built, is busier, with its street market beside family homes. Suggest a parking spot on day one, or choose a tutor who comes by bus to Sector 17 and walks across.
Sector 44 is split into 44-A, 44-C and 44-D, and first-time visitors often get the sub-sector wrong, so send it with the flat number. The Sector 43 bus terminal is next door, which suits tutors coming from Mohali or Zirakpur. In Manimajra, now numbered Sector 13, narrow old-town lanes sit beside newer complexes; keep the lesson clear of the Housing Board Chowk rush.
Mohali Phase 10, also Sector 64, is largely apartments and builder floors next to the Phase 9 stadiums, so plan around match days and register the tutor at the complex gate. Zirakpur is mostly gated societies at the meeting point of the highways to Shimla, Ambala and Patiala; a tutor from Peer Muchalla or Panchkula's southern sectors is often the steadiest choice.
The Chandigarh sectors tuition guide and the Mohali and Panchkula guide go deeper on each side of the tricity.
It depends on the age and the goal more than the address.
During Navratra weeks in Mansa Devi Complex, or on match days near the Mohali stadiums, a planned online session keeps the week intact. Our home or online tutor article covers the trade-offs.
Keep one recent marked answer or composition ready, and use the demo to see how the tutor works with it.
If the fit is wrong, tell us and we arrange the next tutor on the shortlist. A later change of tutor is free too. Tutors who join go through an ID check before their profile is marked Verified.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own rates. For English, the rate mainly follows the class and board, the tutor's experience with that paper, whether the trip crosses from one town of the tricity into another, and the number of lessons a week. The tricity fees guide explains the range in more detail.
Send the class, the board (in full, for a state board), what worries you most, whether that is reading, writing, grammar, literature or speaking, your sector or phase with house or flat details, the evenings you can offer and a budget. We return two or three English tutors with their fees, and you pick one for the free demo. If nobody suitable can reach you at that hour, we suggest online lessons or a mix. NXTutors works from Sector 66, Gurugram, and teaches online across India. Browse the Chandigarh page for tutors by sector, or book a free demo class.

Yes, Chandigarh tricity families can get English tutors who have taught from the Punjab or Haryana board's prescribed English books. Write the board's full name in your request. Each board sets its own course and paper and posts its syllabus on pseb.ac.in or bseh.org.in, so the tutor plans from those rather than CBSE worksheets.
Yes, English tutors are matched across four tricity zones: Chandigarh Sectors 1–30, Sectors 31–56 with Manimajra, Mohali, and Panchkula with Zirakpur. Tutors who live in or already travel to your zone come first. If nobody suitable can reach you at your hour, we suggest online lessons or a mix.
An ICSE student in Chandigarh writes two English papers because CISCE examines language and literature separately, each two hours and 80 marks; CBSE Class 10 has one. Each ICSE paper adds 20 internal marks. That makes timed composition of 300 to 350 words and the summary the main work for an ICSE student's tutor.
When a Chandigarh child moves to CBSE from a state board, the English tutor should focus on literature first, worth 40 of the 80 Class 10 board marks. Answers must be structured and kept to length. The tutor also teaches the formal letter and analytical paragraph, then builds weekly timed writing before the half-yearly exam.
For Chandigarh students, CBSE Class 12 English Core rewards longer literature answers that connect chapters, since literature from Flamingo and Vistas carries 40 marks and grammar has left the paper. Reading carries 22 and creative writing 18, with 20 internal marks that include a project.
A Chandigarh ISC student should practise planning a long composition of 400 to 450 words under time, along with the proposal format. ISC English is two three-hour papers of 80, each with 20 marks of project work. Our question-by-question notes on ISC Class 12 English go further.
Yes, English tuition in Chandigarh can build speaking as well as board marks, but say so in your request because it changes the tutor we suggest. Board preparation centres on reading, writing and literature answers, while spoken confidence needs regular conversation, short presentations and gentle correction. Some families book one lesson for each goal.
For a Chandigarh child, the choice of home or online English lessons depends on age and goal more than address. Early readers up to about Class 2 need a tutor at home; Classes 3 to 8 can use either if written work is shared weekly. Board classes often mix both, and IGCSE or IB students gain more choice online.
Tell us the class, board and your area. We share two or three matched tutors, and the first class is a free demo.
