Home Tuition Fees in Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula (2026): Price It by Board and Subject
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. That band applies across the tricity, for a class in a plotted house in Sector 10, a housing-board flat in Sector 44, a villa in Mohali Phase 7 or a society flat in Panchkula Sector 20. Each tutor sets their own fee, and on NXTutors you see it before the free demo class.
Three administrations share the tricity: Chandigarh is a union territory, Mohali is in Punjab and Panchkula is in Haryana. So besides CBSE, ICSE/ISC and IB/IGCSE, many families follow the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) or the Board of School Education Haryana (BSEH). This guide starts with the board, builds the cost one subject at a time, looks at your part of the tricity, and ends with the points in the year to recheck the budget.
Does the board change what a tutor charges?
The board rarely sets a fee by itself. What it does decide is how many tutors can teach your child well, and a narrow pool usually means fewer quotes to compare. The table sets out what to check for each board and where quotes tend to sit.
| Board | Where you meet it in the tricity | What to check at the demo | Where quotes tend to sit |
|---|---|---|---|
| CBSE | Families in every part of Chandigarh, Mohali, Panchkula and Zirakpur | Recent teaching of the same class, and practice with past board papers from Class 9 onwards | By class |
| ICSE / ISC | Families at CISCE schools across the city sectors and the satellite towns | Experience with the CISCE syllabus for that exact class; ICSE (Class 10) and ISC (Class 12) are separate stages | By class; ISC science toward the upper end |
| IB / IGCSE | Families at international schools | Programme experience: internal assessment for IB, and the right syllabus for IGCSE | Toward the upper end; IB HL specialists can charge more |
| PSEB | Many families in Mohali and Zirakpur, which fall in Punjab | Recent teaching of Punjab-board students, in the same medium of instruction | By class |
| BSEH | Many families in Panchkula, which falls in Haryana | Recent teaching of Haryana-board students, in the same medium | By class |
"By class" means junior classes sit lower in the band and Classes 11–12 toward the upper end. A move within the tricity can also mean a change of board; if your child has switched between a state board and CBSE or ICSE, plan a short catch-up block with a tutor who knows both syllabuses first.
What does each subject add to a four-week month?
A single monthly figure hides which subject is doing the spending. It is easier to price each subject as its own row, at both ends of the band, and add up only the rows your child needs. The figures below are planning examples, not quotes.
| Subject row | Classes a week | Hours in four weeks | At ₹800 an hour | At ₹2,500 an hour |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Junior maths or English, one-hour classes | 2 | 8 | ₹6,400 | ₹20,000 |
| Class 9 or 10 maths, one-hour classes | 3 | 12 | ₹9,600 | ₹30,000 |
| Class 9 or 10 science, one-hour classes | 2 | 8 | ₹6,400 | ₹20,000 |
| One Class 11–12 science subject, classes of an hour and a half | 2 | 12 | ₹9,600 | ₹30,000 |
| One IB or IGCSE subject, one-hour classes | 2 | 8 | ₹6,400 | ₹20,000 |
Two worked sums show how the rows combine:
- Class 10, maths and science: the second and third rows together make 20 hours in four weeks, which comes to ₹16,000 at the lower end of the band and ₹50,000 at the upper end.
- Class 12, physics, chemistry and maths: three copies of the fourth row make 36 hours, from ₹28,800 to ₹90,000. Senior science sits toward the upper end of the band, so budget closer to the larger figure; a JEE Advanced specialist may ask more.
Pricing by row also shows where to trim. If the total is too high, drop one class a week from the subject that is already going well, rather than cutting every subject a little. For the reasoning behind each class and board, see the NXTutors pricing guide.
Which subjects earn a home visit?
The format does not change the fee band, but it changes how many tutors you can choose from. Keep younger children, maths where the working needs watching, and the weeks after a board change at home. Consider online for an IB or IGCSE specialist, a senior science subject with few specialists near you, or a newer area such as Aerocity. The trade-offs are set out in home tutor or online tutor.
Does your part of the tricity change the cost?
Location rarely moves the fee itself. What it shapes is the size of your shortlist and which weekday slot holds. The tricity has no metro running yet: the revived Chandigarh Metro, cleared in July 2024, is planned to be built in its first phase between 2027 and 2034. Until then tutors travel by car, scooter, city bus or auto, and the Chandigarh Transport Undertaking runs buses from inter-state bus terminals in Sectors 17 and 43.
| Part of the tricity | Typical homes | What to plan around | Zone guide |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chandigarh Sectors 1–30 | Plotted houses, builder floors, government housing | Madhya Marg and Dakshin Marg at office hours; Sector 17 bus terminal | Chandigarh sectors guide |
| Chandigarh Sectors 31–56 and Manimajra | Housing-board flats, builder floors, societies in Sectors 48 to 51, Manimajra's old town | Sector 43 bus terminal; Housing Board Chowk at rush hour | Chandigarh sectors guide |
| Mohali | Houses and villas in the older phases, apartments in newer sectors, plots in Aerocity | Roads across the Chandigarh border at office hours; few city buses | Mohali and Panchkula guide |
| Panchkula and Zirakpur | Houses in older Panchkula sectors; gated societies in Sector 20 and Zirakpur | Madhya Marg and the Zirakpur highways at rush hour | Mohali and Panchkula guide |
- Cross-border trips cost time, not money. A Mohali tutor can teach in Sector 40, and a Panchkula tutor in Zirakpur's Peer Muchalla, since those areas adjoin; a trip across the whole tricity at rush hour is harder to keep weekly.
- Fix one weekly slot. A class that starts before the evening office traffic is the one most likely to start on time.
When should a tricity family check the budget again?
- Before the demo. Fill in your subject rows with the real fees on your shortlist.
- After the first four paid weeks. A subject that is ahead of plan can lose a weekly class; one that is behind needs a conversation with the tutor before any extra hours.
- Ahead of school exams and pre-boards. Agree in advance whether extra classes are charged at the same rate, so the busiest weeks hold no surprises.
- In festival and match weeks. The Navratra crowds at the Mata Mansa Devi temple and match days at the Sector 16 stadium and the Mohali stadiums can hold tutors up; agree to move those classes online or to another day.
- At the start of the new session. A new class means new subject rows, so re-price the plan first.
How do the demo, the fee preview and free switching save money?
- The fee preview: every matched tutor's fee is on screen before the demo, so the subject rows carry real numbers from day one.
- The free demo: nobody is paid for the first class, which lets your child try each tutor before a rupee of the plan is spent. Take our demo class checklist for parents along.
- Free switching: a later change of tutor costs nothing, so a subject row that stalls can get a fresh tutor from the same shortlist.
How NXTutors can help
Share your sector or phase with the class, board and subjects, and NXTutors puts forward two or three matched tutors: home tutors where some live within reach, online tutors from anywhere in India. Fees are visible before the demo, the first class costs nothing, and changing tutor later is free. Subject pages for the tricity cover maths home tutors in Chandigarh, science tutors, physics tutors and chemistry tutors; every sector and town is listed on home tutors across the Chandigarh tricity.
For the city sectors, read the Chandigarh sectors tuition guide; for the satellite towns, the Mohali and Panchkula tuition guide. Class 10 families may also find our CBSE Class 10 maths preparation guide useful. Tutors based in the tricity can find openings on tuition jobs in Chandigarh.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a home tutor cost in Chandigarh?
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Each tutor sets their own fee, and you see it before the free demo class.
Is home tuition cheaper in Mohali or Panchkula than in Chandigarh?
No, one band covers Chandigarh, Mohali, Panchkula and Zirakpur alike. A quote mostly reflects the class, the board, the subject and the tutor's experience, and every tutor names their own figure. Your address changes how many tutors can travel to you, and so how many quotes you get to weigh.
Do PSEB or BSEH students pay less than CBSE students?
Not as a rule. On any board, junior classes tend to sit lower in the band and Classes 11–12 toward the upper end. What matters more is finding a tutor who has taught that board recently, in the right medium, so ask about it at the free demo before comparing fees.
How do we work out a monthly total for two subjects?
Price each subject on its own, then add them. Three one-hour maths classes and two one-hour science classes a week make 20 hours in four weeks: ₹16,000 at the lower end of the band and ₹50,000 at the upper end. Your shortlist's actual fees then fix the real figure.
Does the lack of a metro make home tuition harder to arrange?
It mainly affects timing. Tutors in the tricity travel by car, scooter, city bus or auto, so a class that starts before the evening office traffic on Madhya Marg, Dakshin Marg or the Zirakpur highways holds up well. Families in newer areas often mix a home tutor with online classes.
