Tutoring in Chandigarh: what to know

Tutoring in the tricity means working across Chandigarh, Mohali in Punjab and Panchkula in Haryana, grouped here into four zones. Chandigarh's first-phase Sectors 1 to 30 are mostly plotted houses and builder floors that open onto the street; the second-phase sectors south of Dakshin Marg add housing-board flats, cooperative societies and old Manimajra; Mohali runs in phases and newer sectors out to Aerocity; and Panchkula and Zirakpur mix plotted sectors with gated societies. There is no metro, so tutors travel by two-wheeler, car or bus along the Margs, Madhya Marg and Dakshin Marg above all, and the evening return rush between the three towns is what to plan around.

The board map follows the state line. CBSE, CISCE's ICSE and ISC, and the international programmes are found across the tricity, while on the Mohali side, including Zirakpur, some families study under the Punjab School Education Board, and in Panchkula the Board of School Education Haryana is the state option. Each state board has its own textbooks and papers, so a tutor should teach from that board's prescribed books and past papers rather than assume CBSE material fits. Families can live a few sectors apart and still follow different boards, and a tutor who knows CBSE and one state board helps families who change schools across the line.

Home and online lessons both have a place here. A request from Sector 44 is matched with tutors in that sector first, then the rest of its zone, then elsewhere in the tricity, then online tutors, and the family sees two or three of them with fees shown before a free first demo; switching later costs them nothing. Because sector numbers make homes easy to find, home lessons are simple once the commute works. For Aerocity, outer Zirakpur or a specialist senior paper, an online session alongside home visits is often the practical answer for both sides.

How you get tuition work on NXTutors

Six steps from applying to your first class. Swipe to see each step.

  1. Sign up with a one-time code

Join from any of the three towns. Confirm your phone or email with a one-time code, then add your subjects, classes, boards and the tricity sectors and phases you can reach.

  2. Upload your ID; our team reviews it

Upload a government photo ID; the team looks at it before your profile is marked Verified. The check confirms identity only, so it is not police verification or a background check.

  3. Your profile carries the Verified badge

Once approved, your profile carries the Verified badge, with your boards, the Chandigarh, Mohali or Panchkula zones you cover, your free hours and your fee.

  4. A family nearby sends a request

A family in Sector 35 or Phase 7 asks for a tutor. The shortlist holds two or three names: nearby tutors first, then those travelling in, then the zone, the city and online.

  5. Free demo; the family sees your fee first

The family can see your fee before they book, and lesson one is a free demo where we ask a parent to be present, so both sides can decide on fit, timing and route.

  6. Teach at home, online or both

Teach at home in the sectors you chose, online for students anywhere, or both, perhaps a weekend visit across town with online classes on weekdays.

Boards you can teach in Chandigarh

Tricity tutors teach CBSE, ICSE and ISC, the Punjab School Education Board on the Mohali side, the Board of School Education Haryana in Panchkula, and IB or IGCSE. For the two state boards, confirm each year's syllabus and scheme on the board's own website and work from its prescribed books. CBSE sample papers and marking schemes are on the CBSE academic site, and ICSE and ISC regulations on the CISCE site. On your profile, name the boards you actually teach rather than listing all five.

CBSE

Classes 1–12

Across Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula, CBSE is the board almost every tutor meets. Build lessons on NCERT, use the sample papers and marking schemes on cbseacademic.nic.in, and train students to show every step. Families cross town lines, so one CBSE tutor may teach in two or three municipalities in the same week.

CISCE (ICSE and ISC)

ICSE (Class 10); ISC (Class 12)

ICSE in Class 10 and ISC in Class 12 ask for full, structured answers over a wide syllabus, with prescribed English literature and project work in each subject. In the tricity, a CISCE tutor should plan steady revision of every chapter; regulations and specimen papers are on cisce.org.

IB Diploma Programme

Diploma Programme (Classes 11–12)

IB Diploma students in the tricity need tutors who know the course by name: Maths Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation, at SL or HL, plus internal assessment that a tutor may guide but never write. Read the subject guides at ibo.org; online lessons let you reach families in all three towns.

Cambridge / Pearson Edexcel IGCSE

IGCSE (Classes 9–10)

For Cambridge IGCSE, or Pearson Edexcel's International GCSE, the job is technique: command words, the right tier, and past papers marked against the official scheme. Keep a bank of marked papers, and offer online sessions so a Mohali or Panchkula student can work with you between visits.

Where in Chandigarh tutors are needed

Zones marked "Tutors needed" have the fewest tutors living in or travelling to them, so families there mostly see online tutors today. Add them to your travel areas to reach those families first.

Panchkula & Zirakpur

Tutors needed

Panchkula Sector 20 and most of Zirakpur are gated societies where you register once at the gate and check visitor parking, while Sectors 8 and 15 are plotted houses and builder floors. Crossing into Chandigarh means Madhya Marg and Housing Board Chowk, and Navratra crowds around Mansa Devi Complex call for earlier or online lessons. A tutor who prefers not to cross can list only their own side and take other families online.

Chandigarh Sectors 1–30

Tutors needed

Most homes open straight onto the street, so the sector, block letter and house number, plus which bell to ring for a builder floor, are all you need; there is rarely a gate register. Start evening lessons before the return rush on Madhya Marg and Dakshin Marg, and agree parking near the Sector 22 market, Sadar Bazaar or the Sector 16 stadium. Tutors coming from Panchkula, Mohali or Zirakpur should aim to arrive before that rush.

Chandigarh Sectors 31–56 & Manimajra

Tutors needed

Housing-board flats in Sectors 38 to 47 use sub-sector, block and flat numbers that confuse first-time visitors, and the Sector 49 societies have a guard who should know your name before the demo. Manimajra mixes narrow old-town lanes with planned complexes, and Housing Board Chowk is the junction to avoid at its busiest. Ask for the sub-sector, such as 44-A or 44-C, and agree parking in Manimajra's lanes before the first visit.

Mohali

Tutors needed

Mohali's first eleven sectors are called phases, so learn the mapping, such as Phase 7 being Sector 61, and note that the early phases are houses while Phase 10 and Sector 70 add apartment complexes with gate registration. Aerocity has fewer tutors living inside it so far, so tutors from the phases, from Zirakpur or from Chandigarh's southern sectors near Phase 7 can cover it. Plan around match days near the Phase 9 stadiums.

Women tutors welcome

For women tutors: you set the terms

Women tutors are welcome on NXTutors across Chandigarh, Mohali, Panchkula and Zirakpur, for home lessons, online teaching or both. Because the tricity spans three municipalities, your choice of zones matters: you might keep to the plotted sectors you know and teach Zirakpur or Aerocity families online. Every tutor who joins goes through one ID check, every new family starts with a demo where we ask a parent to be at home, and the safeguarding policy lists rules for tutors and parents alike. That is how the platform works; it is not a promise about any individual.

  • Choose home, online or hybrid, and update it whenever your timetable changes.
  • Select only the zones you want, such as Sectors 1–30 or the Mohali phases, and skip any town you would rather not reach in the evening.
  • List the hours you are free so tricity families can tell when you are able to come.
  • Meet a new family at the free demo, where we ask a parent to be at home, before agreeing regular classes.
  • In the Sector 49 societies, Panchkula Sector 20 and Zirakpur, ask the family to register you at the gate so visits are logged.
  • Keep every arrangement, from fees to timetable changes, with a parent rather than the student directly.
  • Teach young children in a shared room with an adult present, and keep cameras on for online lessons.
  • Stop any class that worries you and tell NXTutors, marking it Safeguarding; call 112 first in an emergency.

Read the safeguarding policy and how the ID check works.

Why tutors choose NXTutors

What is different from a directory listing or a tuition bureau.

  • You set your fee

Your fee per class is on your profile, and families see it before the demo, so there is no haggling after a good class.

  • Matched, nearest first

Each request goes to two or three tutors who fit it, nearest first, not to a long list of people chasing the same family.

  • Demo first

The first class is a free demo. Families decide after meeting you, not from a phone call or a price list.

  • No made-up leads

We never show invented requests. The only request details on these pages are real and anonymised, and only once there are three or more.

  • An ID check for everyone

Every tutor who joins goes through the same ID check. Real tutors who pass carry the Verified badge; sample profiles are always labelled.

  • AI-first, with real teachers

Parents can ask NXT AI about your profile and compare tutors side by side. The teaching is always yours.

Tutor plans and what each includes

Tutor plans are listed on our pricing page with what each one includes. Read them before you apply; we do not quote prices on this page. Tutors are independent: you set your own fee, and families pay you for the classes they take.

Questions from tutors

How do I get tuition requests across Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula?

A family sends one request with class, board, subjects, sector or phase and timings. NXTutors offers two or three tutors, taking those in the same sector first, then the same zone, then the rest of the tricity, then online. Listing the sectors and phases you actually reach puts you in front of nearby families.

Can I teach online while living in the tricity?

Yes. You can keep home visits to the sectors near you and teach online for students elsewhere in the tricity or across India. Families wanting a home tutor see local profiles first, while families who choose online tuition can be matched with you directly, which suits specialist ISC, IB or senior science work.

Should I list sectors in all three towns?

Only if you can reach them reliably. A tutor in Sector 35 can serve the southern sectors and Mohali's nearby phases, while one in Panchkula may prefer to stay on the Haryana side and avoid Housing Board Chowk at rush hour. Fewer, accurate sectors match you with families who will keep the lesson time.

How does NXTutors check who I am?

Tutors who join go through an ID check. You confirm your phone or email with a one-time code and upload a government photo ID, which the team reviews before your profile is marked Verified. It covers identity, not your background; /how-we-verify-tutors explains the steps.

Are tutor plans listed somewhere?

Signing up and onboarding are free, and the Free plan gives you 160 lead credits a month. Paid plans (/pricing) are optional: they add visibility, AI tools and more credits, and no plan is a fee to apply for a tuition. The fee for your lessons is yours to decide and appears on your profile, so families know it before booking the free first demo. If a family later wants to try someone else, the switch is free for them, which is why steady, prepared lessons matter.

Can women tutors in the tricity choose not to travel between towns?

Yes. Your travel areas are your choice, so you can list only Panchkula sectors, only the Mohali phases or only Chandigarh's sectors. Home requests follow those choices, and your listed hours tell families when you can visit. Families meet you first at a free demo where we ask a parent to be at home, and online teaching covers anyone further away.

Which boards can I teach in Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula?

Tricity families ask for CBSE, CISCE's ICSE and ISC, and the IB Diploma or Cambridge IGCSE, and some study under the Punjab or Haryana state boards depending on the town. List the boards and classes you know in depth, and check any state-board scheme on that board's own website.

Is a hybrid plan practical across the three towns?

Often, yes. If a family lives across a town line from you, a weekly home lesson plus one or two online classes keeps the trip to once a week. Tick both home and online on your profile, and agree the split with the parent after the demo.
