Tutors who join go through an ID check. Tell us the class, board and your area: we share two or three matched tutors, each with their fee, and the first class is a free demo, at home or online.
Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

Economics trips students up in a particular way: they understand the chapter in class, then lose marks because a curve is unlabelled, a national income sum skips a step, or a long answer lists points without reaching a judgement. A tutor's job is to find which of those is happening. In the tricity there is a second puzzle, because the same economics syllabus can arrive through CBSE, ISC, a state board, Cambridge or the IB, depending on the school and sometimes the side of the state line. This NXTutors Academic Team guide sets out what each paper asks, how tutors get to each part of the tricity, and how to judge one in a free demo. For the subject in full depth, read our national economics home tutor guide.
| Course | Assessment, per the official documents | Where a tutor earns their fee |
|---|---|---|
| CBSE Economics (030), Classes 11–12 | 80-mark theory paper and a 20-mark project in each year | Class 11 statistics and the Class 12 national income numericals |
| ISC Economics (856) | 80-mark paper, of which 60 marks come from 12-mark questions (five from eight), plus two 10-mark projects | Complete long answers written to time |
| Cambridge IGCSE (0455) | A one-hour multiple-choice paper (30%) and a two-hour structured paper (70%) | Precise terms and short structured answers |
| Cambridge AS & A Level (9708) | Multiple choice plus data response and essays at both stages; A Level essays are unstructured | Planning an argument without prompts |
| IB Diploma Economics, SL and HL | Papers 1 and 2 at both levels, Paper 3 (policy) at HL only, and a portfolio of three commentaries | Linking news extracts to theory and key concepts |
| Punjab or Haryana board | The board's own Class 11–12 economics syllabus, textbooks and paper | Teaching from the prescribed book in the right medium |
The CBSE design gives roughly 40% of theory marks to remembering and understanding, 30% to applying and 30% to analysing, evaluating and creating. That last band is where students who have learnt the textbook by heart stop gaining marks, and where weekly written practice with feedback makes the clearest difference.
Half of CBSE Class 11 economics is Statistics for Economics: collecting, organising and presenting data, then the statistical tools and their interpretation. The other half is introductory microeconomics, with consumer equilibrium and demand worth 14 marks and producer behaviour and supply another 14. Students who dropped maths after Class 10 often fear the statistics half, yet it is careful arithmetic set out in tables, and CBSE asks students to explain what a result means rather than only compute it.
Class 12 moves to macroeconomics (national income 10 marks, income and employment 12) and Indian Economic Development, where current challenges alone carry 20 marks. The project is one piece of 3,500 to 4,000 words a session, marked for relevance, research, presentation and an 8-mark viva. A tutor can help a student understand the economics behind a chosen topic and prepare for the viva; the research and writing stay the student's.
Some tricity families follow the IB or Cambridge. IB Economics is built on nine key concepts, from scarcity and choice to interdependence and intervention, and the internal assessment is a portfolio of three commentaries on published news extracts, each drawn from a different unit. Tutors may teach the skill on practice articles and explain the criteria; IB academic-integrity rules forbid them from writing or rewriting any part of the commentaries. HL students add Paper 3, a policy paper that asks for a recommendation backed by data.
At Cambridge AS Level the essay questions come in two parts, which steers the structure; at A Level they are unstructured, so the student must plan alone. A tutor who has marked A Level essays can teach that planning directly. For wider IB support, see our IB tutors in Chandigarh page and the parents' guide to IB and IGCSE tutoring.
Mohali-side families may be with the Punjab School Education Board and Panchkula families with the Board of School Education Haryana. We keep the description general: each board publishes its own Class 11–12 economics syllabus, prescribes its own books and sets its own paper, and the current scheme should be read on the board's official site each year. Mention the medium of teaching in your request. Diagrams and definitions look the same in any language, but the words a student is asked to write do not, and the tutor should match the textbook's terms.
CUET (UG) is the other common target. The NTA's 2026 bulletin lists Economics / Business Economics (code 309) as a domain subject, with 50 compulsory questions in 60 minutes on the NCERT Class 12 syllabus. It rewards quick concept recognition and fast, accurate small calculations, built on top of board preparation.
A revived metro was cleared in July 2024 but its first phase is not due before 2027, so tutors travel by road.
| Zone | Typical route in | Timing tip |
|---|---|---|
| Chandigarh Sectors 1–30 | Madhya Marg, Jan Marg, Dakshin Marg and Himalaya Marg | Start before the return rush on Madhya and Dakshin Marg |
| Sectors 31–56 & Manimajra | South of Dakshin Marg; Sector 43 bus terminal nearby | Avoid the Housing Board Chowk peak for Manimajra |
| Mohali | National Highway 5, Airport Road and Sarovar Path | Plan around match days near the Phase 9 stadiums |
| Panchkula & Zirakpur | Madhya Marg and Housing Board Chowk from Chandigarh | Move lessons earlier or online in Navratra weeks near Mansa Devi Complex |
The Chandigarh sectors tuition guide and the Mohali and Panchkula guide describe each zone in more detail.
Economics suits online teaching better than most subjects: a shared whiteboard handles diagrams, a news article can be opened by both people at once, and essay drafts can be marked on screen. For IB and A Level, online also widens the field to tutors anywhere in India, which matters because we cannot promise a specialist in any one sector. Home lessons still help Class 11 CBSE students with statistics, where a tutor watching the working catches slips as they happen, and younger IGCSE students who drift on a screen. Plenty of tricity families combine the two with one tutor: a home visit at the weekend and a shorter online lesson midweek when Madhya Marg is at its worst.
If the answers disappoint, we line up a demo with the next tutor on your list; switching later costs nothing. Every tutor who joins goes through an ID check before the profile is marked Verified.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Rates are set by tutors themselves and shown to you before the demo; the tricity fees guide explains the spread.
Any family in Chandigarh, Mohali, Panchkula or Zirakpur can request an economics tutor. Tell us the course and class, the skill that seems weakest (definitions, diagrams, numericals or evaluation), your sector or phase, free times, home or online, and a budget. We send two or three profiles and you pick one for the free demo class. Browse by sector on our Chandigarh page; teachers can see open requests on tuition jobs in the tricity.
Many commerce students also need an accountancy tutor in Chandigarh. Board-level help sits on our CBSE home tutors in Chandigarh and ICSE and ISC home tutors in Chandigarh pages; for statistics confidence, see maths home tutors in Chandigarh, and for answer-writing, English home tutors in Chandigarh. Deciding on a stream after Class 10? Our stream-choice guide and Class 11 tutoring page lay out the options.

Usually not. Statistics for Economics is half of the Class 11 paper, and it needs careful arithmetic in tables plus a sentence on what each result means. A tutor who sets out the working step by step, and asks for that interpretation every time, can turn it into one of the steadier parts of the paper.
You can request one, and we look for a tutor who has taught the IB course and knows the commentary portfolio and, for HL, Paper 3. Because the right specialist may not live near your sector, online lessons are often the practical answer, sometimes combined with an occasional home visit before exams.
They can teach the skill on practice articles, explain the assessment criteria and help a student judge whether an extract offers enough economics to work with. Under IB academic-integrity rules, the tutor must not write or rewrite any part of the three commentaries; the work has to remain the student's own.
Yes. Tell us the board, the class and the medium of teaching. Each state board sets its own syllabus, textbooks and paper, so we look for a tutor who teaches from that board's prescribed book and past papers, and who can use the textbook's own terms in answers.
Online suits economics well, with diagrams on a shared whiteboard and essays marked on screen. Home lessons still help with Class 11 statistics and with younger students. Many tricity families use one tutor for both: a home visit at the weekend and a short online session midweek to avoid evening traffic.
Often. The NTA's CUET (UG) 2026 bulletin lists Economics / Business Economics as a domain subject: 50 compulsory questions in 60 minutes, based on the NCERT Class 12 syllabus. Once the board chapters are secure, a tutor can add timed objective practice. Read the bulletin for the year your child applies.
