Home Tuition in Mohali, Panchkula and Zirakpur: An Area Guide
Mohali and Panchkula were both planned on Chandigarh's sector system, one by Punjab and one by Haryana, and Zirakpur has grown fast between them on the road from Delhi. For a family arranging a home tutor, that shared grid makes addresses easy to find, but the homes and the commute differ a good deal: villas and plotted houses in Mohali's older phases, apartment complexes near its stadiums and airport, gated societies across much of Zirakpur and Panchkula Sector 20, and plotted houses in Panchkula's established sectors. None of the three towns has a metro, so the neighbouring sectors and the road you sit on decide which tutors can reach you.
This guide covers two zones: Mohali, and Panchkula with Zirakpur. For each area it gives the housing mix, the gate or doorstep routine, the neighbours tutors come from and the road to plan class times around.
How do the three towns fit together?
Mohali, or Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, grew from an industrial estate started in 1967, and the foundation stone of the township was laid on 1 November 1975. Its first eleven sectors are known as phases, so Phase 7 is also Sector 61, and the master plan now extends up to Sector 128. Panchkula was planned and developed by Haryana in the 1970s as a sector-based city like Chandigarh. Zirakpur, in Mohali district, sits at the junction of the highways towards Shimla, Ambala and Patiala and is described as the gateway to Chandigarh from Delhi. National Highway 5 runs through Mohali into Chandigarh, exits at Zirakpur and continues through Panchkula towards Shimla.
| Zone | Rail stations tutors can use | Typical homes | Gate or doorstep |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mohali | SAS Nagar Mohali, on the direct Chandigarh–Ludhiana line completed in April 2013 | Independent houses and villas in the older phases; apartments, builder floors and LIG, MIG and HIG houses in Sector 70 and Phase 10; plotted homes in Aerocity | Doorstep in the phases and Aerocity; gate registration in apartment complexes |
| Panchkula and Zirakpur | Chandigarh Junction, whose redeveloped station has buildings on both the Chandigarh and Panchkula sides; Chandi Mandir for the cantonment area | Plotted houses and builder floors in older Panchkula sectors; group housing societies in Sector 20 and most new Zirakpur homes | Doorstep in plotted sectors; gate registration in societies |
The Chandigarh Metro, cleared in July 2024, plans first-phase lines linking Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula between 2027 and 2034. Until then tutors travel by car, scooter or auto, with some local buses on the main roads.
Mohali
Because Mohali was planned as an extension of Chandigarh's grid, a tutor from Chandigarh's southern sectors can often reach the older phases as easily as a tutor from inside Mohali. The Greater Mohali Area Development Authority developed Aerocity near the international airport and IT City across Sectors 82, 82A and 83A. Roads between Mohali and Chandigarh are busiest at office hours, so an evening class that starts before the rush suits tutors crossing the border.
- Mohali Phase 3B2: independent houses and villas with space for parking, near Phase 5, Phase 7 and Sector 71. There are few gated societies, so the tutor goes straight to the gate; the phase's own market and gurdwara serve as landmarks, and the market needs a parking plan in the evening.
- Mohali Phase 5: also numbered Sector 59, largely independent houses of different sizes near Phase 4 and Phase 3B2, with parks, shops and restaurants within the phase. Street parking in front of the house is usual, and SAS Nagar Mohali station lies in the city's industrial area.
- Mohali Phase 7: officially Sector 61, bordering Sectors 70 and 71, Phase 3B2, Phase 8 and Sector 52 of Chandigarh, on Sarovar Path. Houses and villas surround one of Mohali's main retail markets, so agree parking in advance; tutors from Chandigarh's southern sectors reach it quickly.
- Mohali Phase 10: Sector 64, near Phase 9, Phase 11 and Sector 65, with apartments, builder floors and houses and many three-bedroom flats. Phase 9 next door holds the cricket and international hockey stadiums, so match days need a different slot or an online class.
- Mohali Sector 70: apartment complexes, LIG, MIG and HIG houses, independent houses and builder floors, with around ten parks and a historic gurdwara, bordered by Sectors 69 and 71, Phase 7 and the villages of Mattaur and Sohana. The Chandigarh–Sohana road, the Mohali bypass and Airport Road are the ones to time around.
- Aerocity: a planned mixed-use township beside the international airport, with residential plots, independent houses and wide roads where parking is easy. Fewer established tutors live inside, so many families take one from Mohali's phases, Zirakpur or Chandigarh, and add online classes for niche subjects.
Panchkula and Zirakpur
Panchkula's plotted sectors feel much like Chandigarh's older ones, while Zirakpur and Panchkula Sector 20 are mostly apartment living behind society gates. Madhya Marg is the main commuter corridor between Panchkula and Chandigarh, with Housing Board Chowk as the key junction, and the highways through Zirakpur carry heavy traffic, so both deserve a class time set before the evening rush. Peer Muchalla in Zirakpur adjoins Panchkula's Sectors 20 and 21, which lets tutors from either town cover both.
- Panchkula Sector 20: one of Panchkula's main apartment sectors, with many group housing and cooperative societies beside the highway from Zirakpur. Register the tutor at the gate once; visitor parking is usually inside, and many societies close together make it easier to find a tutor already teaching nearby.
- Panchkula Sector 21: independent houses, apartments and residential plots next to Sectors 3, 4 and 20, with parks spread through the sector. Houses are visited at the door and flats may ask for a name at the gate; tutors from Panchkula and Zirakpur can both reach it.
- Panchkula Sector 15: a self-contained sector near Sectors 9, 10 and 16, with a full market of eateries, grocers, jewellers and tuition centres, so many teachers already work in the area. Independent houses make up most homes, and the A-Road stretch is the locally sought-after block.
- Panchkula Sector 8: independent houses and builder floors, many with three to five bedrooms, in a plotted sector linked to the Himalayan Expressway, Budhanpur Road and the road to Nada Sahib. Builder-floor families should give the tutor the floor in advance.
- Mansa Devi Complex: MDC, planned by Haryana across Sectors 4, 5 and 6, named after the Mata Mansa Devi temple. Plots sit beside group housing with two to four bedroom flats. During the Navratra festivals the temple draws very large crowds, so move classes away from the busiest hours or online.
- Zirakpur: a fast-growing town that includes Baltana, Dhakoli and Peer Muchalla, with most new homes in apartment complexes and gated societies and older pockets of builder floors and houses. Local buses link it with Chandigarh and Panchkula, and Chandigarh Junction is the nearest railway station.
Which boards should tutors here know?
CBSE, ICSE/ISC and IB/IGCSE families live in every part of the tricity. Mohali and Zirakpur fall in Punjab, where the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) is the state board, and Panchkula falls in Haryana, where the Board of School Education Haryana (BSEH) is. If your child is on a state board, ask at the demo whether the tutor has taught students on that board recently and in the same medium. If you have moved across the tricity and changed board, a short catch-up block with a tutor who knows both syllabuses helps before a regular weekly plan.
How NXTutors can help
Tell us your phase or sector, the class, board and subject, and we shortlist two or three matched tutors, nearest to you first, then your zone, then the rest of the tricity, then online tutors across India. You see each tutor's fee before the demo, the first class is a free demo, and switching tutor later is free. Start with maths home tutors in Chandigarh, science, physics or chemistry, or see every area on home tutors across the Chandigarh tricity.
For a budget, read the guide to home tuition fees in Chandigarh, and for the city itself, the Chandigarh sectors tuition guide. To weigh a home tutor against online classes, see our comparison of home and online tutors. If you teach and live in the tricity, see tuition jobs in Chandigarh.
Frequently asked questions
Is Mohali Phase 7 the same as Sector 61?
Yes. Mohali's first eleven sectors are known as phases, so Phase 7 is Sector 61, Phase 5 is Sector 59 and Phase 10 corresponds to Sector 64. Either name works in an address, but giving both, with a landmark such as the Phase 7 market, helps a tutor coming from Chandigarh.
Do tutors need to register at the gate in Zirakpur and Panchkula?
In gated societies, yes. Most new Zirakpur homes and almost every family in Panchkula Sector 20 live behind a society gate, so give the guard the tutor's name before the first class. In Panchkula's plotted sectors, such as Sectors 8 and 15, the tutor usually goes straight to your door.
Can a Chandigarh tutor teach in Mohali or Panchkula?
Often, yes. Mohali Phase 7 borders Sector 52 of Chandigarh, and Manimajra and Chandigarh's eastern sectors are close to Panchkula. The limit is traffic at office hours on the roads across the border and on Madhya Marg, so pick a slot that starts before the evening rush.
Which railway stations serve Mohali, Panchkula and Zirakpur?
SAS Nagar Mohali station serves Mohali, on the direct Chandigarh–Ludhiana line. Chandigarh Junction serves Panchkula as well as Chandigarh, with buildings on both sides, and is the nearest main station for Zirakpur. Chandi Mandir station serves the cantonment area. There is no metro in the tricity yet.
How much does a home tutor cost in Mohali or Panchkula?
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Each tutor sets their own fee, and you see it before the free demo class.
