Tutors who join go through an ID check. Tell us the class, board and your area: we share two or three matched tutors, each with their fee, and the first class is a free demo, at home or online.
Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

Many Kolhapur children study under the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, which sets the SSC at the end of Standard X and the HSC at the end of Standard XII. The board publishes an evaluation scheme for each subject: how many marks each chapter carries, what kinds of question appear, and the small rules about pens, maps and calculators that cost marks when nobody mentions them. This guide reads three of those schemes closely, chosen because tutoring changes the result in each: SSC Social Sciences, HSC Chemistry and HSC Book Keeping and Accountancy. It then covers medium, how tutors reach each part of Kolhapur, where MHT-CET fits, and what to test in the free demo. Schemes are revised from time to time, so check anything you plan around on mahahsscboard.in.
The State Board runs its examinations through a set of divisional boards, and the list on its official website includes a Kolhapur Divisional Board. For a family, that is mostly background. The question papers and marking schemes are the same across Maharashtra, and the school or junior college handles exam forms, internal marks and the printed marksheet for you. What a parent does need is the subject scheme, because it shows exactly where the marks sit and therefore where a tutor's hours should go.
The schemes sit on the board's Evaluation page as downloadable files, several of them in Marathi. A tutor who has read the file for your child's subject will plan differently from one who teaches only from the textbook, and the difference shows in the first month.
| Standard | Who examines | Detail from the board's schemes | Where a tutor earns the fee |
|---|---|---|---|
| IX | The school | Geography uses one combined pattern for Standards IX and X | Map and graph habits formed a year early |
| X | The board (SSC) | Social Sciences: two written papers of 40 marks, plus 20 internal marks | Answer formats, maps, reasons and passages |
| XI | The junior college | New subjects and a new timetable; HSC subjects are chosen here | A firm start before the board year |
| XII | The board (HSC) | Chemistry: a 70-mark paper; Book Keeping: 80 written plus a 20-mark application test | Numericals, long problems and timed practice |
The board also sets a unit test and a terminal exam pattern for each HSC subject, which junior colleges follow during the year. Those college tests are the natural checkpoints for a tutor's plan.
Social Sciences (code 73) is often treated as the subject a student can cram in the last month. The board's scheme says otherwise. The History and Political Science paper is 40 marks: 28 for history and 12 for political science. The board kept the same nine question types it used when the paper carried 60 marks, so there are fewer sub-questions but no fewer formats to practise.
| Question | What the student does | Marks |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Complete statements from given options; identify the wrong pair in a set | 3 + 3 |
| 2 | Complete an activity as instructed (two of three); write notes (two of three) | 4 + 4 |
| 3 | Explain statements with reasons (two of four) | 4 |
| 4 | Read a passage and answer questions on it | 4 |
| 5 | Write detailed answers (two of four) | 6 |
| 6 to 9 | Political science: options, true or false with reasons, explain a concept, an activity, a brief answer | 12 |
One change in the revised pattern trips students up. In the wrong-pair question, the board now asks the student to identify the wrong pair and write it down as it appears, not to correct it. The scheme itself asks teachers to explain this, and a tutor should rehearse it until it is automatic. The other format worth weekly practice is "explain with reasons": a one-line answer earns little, while a cause, an example and a clear link back to the statement earn the marks.
Internal marks for history come from homework worth 5 and a multiple-choice test worth 5. A tutor can explain the homework questions but should never write the homework.
The Geography paper is another 40 marks, set as seven questions, with enough internal choice that the paper offers about 60 marks to choose from. The Standard X book has nine units, each worth four or five marks, so no chapter can safely be skipped. Two questions decide most results:
The remaining questions ask for the correct option, the odd one out, one-sentence answers, geographical reasons and detailed answers. The instructions to students are specific, and every one of them should be practised at home: answers in blue or black ink, because answers written in pencil are not marked; a lead pencil or colour pencils allowed for maps, graphs and figures; and a stencil allowed for drawing maps. The textbook's "Do you know?" boxes are not examined. The field-visit chapter carries a sample visit that will not be asked about directly, though questions about field visits will be.
Internal marks matter here too. Geography's 10 internal marks and history's 10 together make the 20 internal marks for Social Sciences that the school sends to the board. A good habit for Standard IX and X is one map and one graph every week, marked by the tutor against the scheme. Our science home tutors in Kolhapur page covers the other big SSC subject.
The Standard XII chemistry paper is 70 marks in three hours, built in four sections:
| Area | Units | Marks |
|---|---|---|
| Physical chemistry | Solid state, solutions, ionic equilibria, thermodynamics, electrochemistry, kinetics | 26 |
| Inorganic chemistry | Groups 16, 17 and 18; transition and inner transition elements; coordination compounds | 17 |
| Organic chemistry | Halogen derivatives; alcohols, phenols and ethers; aldehydes, ketones and acids; amines | 18 |
| Applied chemistry | Biomolecules, polymers, green chemistry and nanochemistry | 9 |
Three details shape the tutoring. Numericals are worth between 12 and 15 marks and appear in every section, so they cannot be dodged by choosing other questions. A log table is allowed and a calculator is not, so arithmetic with logs has to be fluent. And a multiple-choice answer must be written together with its letter, with only the first attempt counted. Physical chemistry is the single largest block, which is why a student weak in calculation should start there. The practical notebook-cum-journal published by the state's textbook bureau has been compulsory since 2020–21, so the journal deserves a regular check as well. Our chemistry home tutors in Kolhapur page goes further.
For commerce students, accountancy is the subject where steady practice shows most clearly in marks. The board paper is 80 marks, and the junior college adds an application-based test of 20 marks: one hour, covering the whole syllabus, answered on the question sheet itself. During the year the college also holds a 50-mark terminal exam on roughly half the portion, and a preliminary exam with its own practice test.
| Question | Content | Marks |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Any four objective types, such as true or false with reasons, odd one out, agree or disagree, a calculation, or a specimen bill of exchange | 20 |
| 2 and 3 | One problem from a choice of two in each: admission or retirement of a partner, dissolution of a firm, bills of exchange | 10 + 10 |
| 4 and 5 | One problem from a choice of two in each: death of a partner, issue of shares, analysis of financial statements, computer in accounting | 8 + 8 |
| 6 | Accounts of a not-for-profit concern | 12 |
| 7 | Partnership final accounts | 12 |
Problems carry three-quarters of the marks and objective items a quarter. The two largest problems, a not-for-profit concern and partnership final accounts, are long, format-heavy and easy to lose marks on through one misplaced adjustment. A tutor should have the student write out full problems by hand every week, not just watch them solved, and should mark the layout as strictly as the figures.
The district's own website describes Marathi as the mother tongue in Kolhapur, with Hindi and English also commonly spoken. Some children start school in Marathi medium and later move to English textbooks for maths and science in the higher classes. The answer has to be written in the medium of the paper, using that medium's technical terms, even when the explanation at home is in another language. A tutor who explains a chemistry term in Marathi and then makes the student use the English word, or the reverse, makes that change much easier. Tell us the medium when you send a request; we match on it first. Our English home tutors in Kolhapur page covers the English paper.
A State Board student often keeps one tutor from Standard IX to the SSC, so the route has to work for two years. These notes come from our Kolhapur zone guides:
Every locality is listed on our Kolhapur home tutors page, and the Kolhapur home tuition guide goes zone by zone. Where weekly travel will not hold, one home session and one online session is a sensible mix; see online tuition in Kolhapur.
MHT-CET is conducted by the State Common Entrance Test Cell, which the Government of Maharashtra set up for admissions to professional courses. Its 2026 notices on cetcell.mahacet.org list separate PCM and PCB groups and refer to a first and a second attempt; read the current information brochure there before planning a year, since arrangements can change. JEE Main and NEET (UG) are conducted by the National Testing Agency.
For an HSC science student this means two kinds of work on the same chapters: written answers with steps for the board, and fast, accurate multiple-choice work for the entrance. The chemistry scheme above, where numericals appear in every section, is a good place for both to meet. Our JEE and NEET pages for Kolhapur explain how a tutor balances them, and the maths, physics and biology pages cover each subject. On another board? See CBSE or ICSE and ISC tutors in Kolhapur. Other State Board guides: Pune, Mumbai and Solapur; families moving within the state can also see our Pune and Mumbai tutor pages.

The SSC History and Political Science paper carries 40 marks, with 28 for history and 12 for political science. It keeps the nine question types of the older 60-mark paper. Internal marks come from homework worth 5 and a multiple-choice test worth 5, so steady work through Standard X matters.
In the revised SSC history pattern, students must identify the wrong pair and write it down as it is, not correct it. The board's own scheme asks teachers to explain this. A Kolhapur tutor should rehearse the format until it is automatic, because correcting the pair wastes time and marks.
No, the board's Geography instructions say answers written in pencil are not marked; answers go in blue or black ink. A lead pencil or colour pencils are allowed for maps, graphs and figures, and a stencil may be used for maps. Practising with the right pens at home avoids a costly surprise.
Physical chemistry carries the most, 26 of the 70 marks, across six units from solid state to chemical kinetics. Numericals worth 12 to 15 marks appear in every section, a log table is allowed and a calculator is not. A tutor should make log arithmetic fluent early in Standard XII.
HSC Book Keeping and Accountancy has an 80-mark board paper plus a 20-mark application-based test held by the junior college. Problems carry three-quarters of the paper, and the two largest, a not-for-profit concern and partnership final accounts, are 12 marks each. Weekly handwritten practice of full problems pays off.
Yes, the divisional-board list on mahahsscboard.in includes a Kolhapur Divisional Board. In practice the school or junior college deals with it for exam forms and marksheets, and the papers are the same across Maharashtra. For notices and evaluation schemes, go to the board's official website rather than any summary.
Yes, many tutors explain a hard idea in Marathi and then insist the answer is written in English with the correct technical terms. Tell us the medium of the paper and the language your child is comfortable learning in. We match on both and send two or three tutors to choose from.
Often yes, because MHT-CET and the HSC paper draw on the same chapters, though they ask for them differently. The State CET Cell's 2026 notices list PCM and PCB groups. A tutor can keep written board answers and timed multiple-choice practice in one weekly plan; check the current brochure on cetcell.mahacet.org.
