The board paper is the anchor, because it decides the HSC result and teaches the habits the other two depend on. The State Board's chemistry scheme shows why. Physical chemistry, the calculation-heavy part, carries 26 of the paper's 70 marks; numericals worth 12 to 15 marks appear in every section; and a log table is allowed while a calculator is not.
