Tutors who join go through an ID check. Tell us the class, board and your area: we share two or three matched tutors, each with their fee, and the first class is a free demo, at home or online.
Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

In Solapur, a State Board child meets two public exams: the SSC after Standard X, and the HSC two years later after Standard XII. It also means a city where many languages meet. Homes here speak Marathi, Telugu, Kannada, Hindi and Urdu, and the board's subject list makes room for that, with first-language papers in each of them. This guide reads the board's own documents so you do not have to: the SSC and HSC subject lists with their codes, the Science & Technology scheme for Standards IX and X in detail, what changes at junior college, and the way we match a State Board tutor to your colony. The documents are revised from time to time, so check anything important on mahahsscboard.in itself.
The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) conducts the SSC (Class 10) and HSC (Class 12) examinations for the whole state. Its website, mahahsscboard.in, carries the subject lists, the syllabus pages and a long set of subject-wise evaluation schemes. It also organises results and statistics by divisional board. For a family, that structure mostly stays in the background: forms, hall tickets and practical arrangements usually come through the school or junior college.
For tuition, the key point is that one set of papers serves all of Maharashtra. A Solapur student writes the same SSC science papers as a student in Pune or Nagpur, so a good tutor here plans from the state-wide documents, not from a local guidebook. Our Pune, Mumbai and Nashik pages read other parts of the same documents; links are near the end of this guide.
The SSC general-subject list sits in the Student & Syllabus section of the board's site. Spend a little time on it before Standard IX:
| Group | Examples with codes | Tutoring need |
|---|---|---|
| First language | Telugu (08), Kannada (06), Urdu (04), English (03), Hindi (02) and Marathi (01), with Gujarati, Tamil, Malayalam, Sindhi, Bengali and Punjabi also listed | Long answers and grammar in the language of study |
| Second and third languages | Single papers such as Marathi (16), English (17), Urdu (18), Kannada (20), Telugu (22) and Sanskrit (27), or composite pairs | Children meeting Marathi or English as a language paper for the first time |
| Main subjects | Code 71 for Mathematics, 72 for Science & Technology and 73 for Social Sciences | Where nearly all tuition requests fall, maths and science above all |
| Other listed subjects | Arithmetic (76), Physiology, Hygiene & Home Science (77) | Ask the school whether they apply to your child |
| Pre-vocational and NSQF | Codes such as X7 (Agriculture), X8 (Electronics and Hardware) and X9 (Health Care) | Seldom tutored; schools handle the hands-on work |
| Grade subjects | P1 to P5, for example physical education, scouting or guiding, and NCC | Given grades by the school, so no tutor is needed |
For subject detail, read our Solapur maths and science pages and the national Class 10 maths page.
The language section of the SSC list is unusually relevant here. Besides single-language papers, the board lists composite papers that pair two languages in one subject. Several of them match languages heard in Solapur homes: Hindi-Urdu (BC), Hindi-Kannada (BL), Hindi-Telugu (BN), Urdu-Arabic (CG) and Urdu-Persian (CH), alongside many Marathi pairs. The board's Evaluation page also carries separate Standard X question patterns for Telugu, Kannada and Urdu as first languages.
Two practical points follow. First, find out exactly which language papers your child sits, with codes, before you ask for a tutor; a Telugu first-language student and a Marathi first-language student in the same class need different help. Second, the medium of the school decides the language of maths and science answers. A tutor who explains in Kannada or Telugu at home must still have the child practise answers in the textbook's own terms, whether Marathi or English. Tell us the medium and the language papers when you send a request; we match on both. The English home tutor in Solapur page covers English as a paper.
The board's evaluation scheme for Science & Technology in Standards IX and X, published in Marathi, explains how the subject is examined. It is split into Part 1 and Part 2. Each part is a separate question paper of 40 marks with two hours allowed, and the two are written on different days. Each paper has the same four-question shape:
| Question | Format | Marks |
|---|---|---|
| 1 (A) | Five multiple-choice questions based on the textbook, one mark each | 5 |
| 1 (B) | Five one-mark items, drawn from types such as odd one out, correlation, match the pairs, right or wrong, and name or molecular formula | 5 |
| 2 (A) | Any two of three "give scientific reasons" questions, two marks each | 4 |
| 2 (B) | Any three of five two-mark questions | 6 |
| 3 | Any five of eight three-mark questions, including numerical problems of higher difficulty | 15 |
| 4 | Any one of two five-mark questions, such as a labelled diagram with explanation or a passage with higher-order questions | 5 |
The instructions on the paper matter as much as the content. All questions are compulsory, neat labelled diagrams are expected wherever needed, and each main question starts on a new page. In Question 1 (A) only the first attempt is marked, and the student writes the option number of the correct answer. The scheme also sets out marks for a science project in each term: choosing and planning it in the first, carrying it out and completing the report in the second. Ask the school how the rest of the internal marks are given.
Read as a tutor would, the scheme says three things. First, a third of each paper (Questions 1 and 2) rewards short, exact recall of the textbook, so a few minutes of quick-fire one-mark practice belongs in every session. Second, "give scientific reasons" is its own skill: the answer must name the principle, not just restate the fact, and children learn it only by writing many such answers. Third, Question 3 carries the largest block of marks and contains the harder numericals, so it deserves the most practice time in Standard X.
| Session | Part | Focus |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Part 1 | One chapter taught; ten one-mark items; two "scientific reasons" answers written and marked |
| 2 | Part 2 | One chapter taught; one labelled diagram drawn from memory; three three-mark answers |
| 3 | Part 1 | Numericals at Question 3 level, then one five-mark question |
| 4 | Part 2 | A timed half-paper, marked against the scheme, and the project checked |
Because Part 1 and Part 2 are examined on different days, revision can follow the same split in the last weeks. Ask any SSC science tutor whether they have read this scheme; if they have, they will mention the two-part structure before you do.
The HSC subject list is organised differently, and its codes are not the SSC codes. English is 01 for everyone. Every student also takes two compulsory subjects, code 30 for Health and Physical Education and code 31 for Environment Education and Water Security. Language codes change too: Marathi is 02 at HSC, Hindi 04, Urdu 05, Kannada 06 and Telugu 10. Then comes a long optional list, and every junior college picks the combinations it will run, so ask the college before you plan:
Papers 40 and 88 have almost the same title yet are not the same course; a maths tutor needs to know which is yours. Science practicals also carry real weight; the board's Physics (54) scheme, for example, gives the practical 30 marks with 11 needed to pass, plus a certified journal. Our Solapur physics, chemistry and biology pages cover the science subjects.
SSC and HSC students tend to stay with one tutor for two years, so pick someone whose route will still work in the monsoon and in exam months. From our area research:
The zone pages go further: Central Solapur Peths, Railway Lines and Pune Road, Vijapur Road and Jule Solapur, Hotgi Road and Sadar Bazar and Akkalkot Road and East Solapur. The Solapur home tuition guide covers every zone, and where weekly travel will not hold, see online tuition in Solapur.
Junior-college science pulls a student two ways. HSC papers reward full written explanations, derivations, labelled diagrams and an up-to-date journal; entrance papers reward speed and accuracy on objective questions covering much the same syllabus. Students in Maharashtra can also sit MHT-CET, which the State Common Entrance Test Cell conducts; its notices list separate PCM and PCB groups, and its syllabus should be read only on cetcell.mahacet.org. A good tutor protects the board-style writing even as objective practice takes more of the week. Read JEE home tutor in Solapur and NEET home tutor in Solapur for that side. For children on other boards there are CBSE and ICSE and ISC pages for Solapur too.
Other pages on the same board read different parts of its documents: HSC maths and economics in Pune, physics and accountancy in Mumbai and HSC chemistry in Nashik. The city hubs for Pune, Mumbai, Kolhapur and Amravati list tutors in those cities.
We send two or three matched tutors, with every fee on view before you choose. The demo costs nothing, and nor does a change of tutor later. Each tutor who joins goes through an ID check, and the Verified badge appears only after the ID check is complete (our process). For further questions, use the demo class checklist.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Fees are set by each tutor. At the demo, ask how many weekly sessions they would plan for this standard and how the months before the prelims would run. Read the pricing guide and home tuition fees in Solapur for the factors involved.

Yes, the State Board's SSC list includes Telugu (08), Kannada (06) and Urdu (04) as first languages, alongside Marathi, Hindi, English and several others. It also lists composite papers such as Hindi-Telugu, Hindi-Kannada and Hindi-Urdu. Confirm with the school which papers it offers before choosing a tutor.
SSC Science and Technology is examined as two separate papers, Part 1 and Part 2, each worth 40 marks with two hours allowed. The board's scheme puts them on different days. Each paper has four questions, from one-mark items up to a five-mark choice question.
It is a two-mark question in Question 2 of each SSC science paper, where the student answers any two of three. A good answer names the principle behind the fact rather than repeating it. Solapur students improve only by writing and having many such answers marked.
Question 3 carries the most marks in each SSC science paper: any five of eight three-mark questions, 15 marks in all. The scheme includes harder numerical problems among its types, so a Solapur tutor should give Question 3 practice the largest share of time in Standard X.
The State Board uses separate code lists for SSC and HSC, so the same language has a different number. Marathi is 01 at SSC but 02 at HSC, and Telugu is 08 at SSC but 10 at HSC. Give the tutor the HSC codes once your child joins junior college.
Every HSC student takes English (01) and two compulsory subjects: Health and Physical Education (30) and Environment Education and Water Security (31). The optional subjects come from a long list, and each junior college in Solapur offers its own combinations, so check before choosing a stream.
No, HSC Mathematics and Statistics 40 is the arts and science paper, while 88 is the separate commerce paper, even though the names are nearly the same. Tell a Solapur maths tutor which code your child sits, because the content and practice material differ.
Ask in the demo whether the State Board tutor also covers MHT-CET practice alongside the HSC syllabus. The State Common Entrance Test Cell conducts MHT-CET, and its notices list separate PCM and PCB groups. Read its syllabus and notices only on cetcell.mahacet.org.
