Science home tutor in Solapur, Classes 6 to 10: the right textbook, a familiar language and exam-ready habits

Science in the middle-school years starts as a single book of experiments and ideas and, by Class 10, has quietly become three subjects with their own vocabulary. Solapur children meet that change in three different shapes. A State Board pupil sits Science and Technology as two papers answered on activity sheets; a CBSE pupil writes one long board paper; an ICSE pupil writes three. Add a home language that may differ from the school's, and what helps most is a tutor who teaches from the child's own textbook and explains in words the child already follows. NXTutors puts forward two or three science tutors who fit your board and part of the city. Fees are visible before you meet, and the opening session is a free demo.

What should a science tutor be doing in Class 6, and how is that different by Class 10?

The CBSE and ICSE sections of this page were written by Aaditya Kashyap. The tutor's focus shifts every year, and a parent can follow progress with one question per stage:

From Class 6 to Class 10 in Solapur: the tutor's main task each year and a question a parent can ask
StageMain taskQuestion to ask
Classes 6–7Each experiment in the book retold in a short, exact sentence, with a tidy sketchIs my child using the science term or a home word for it?
Class 8Pulling the three sciences apart; first sums with units and first word equationsDoes every answer to a sum end with its unit?
Class 9A big jump in content, so gaps must be closed quicklyWhich chapter from last month is still shaky?
Class 10Practice in the exact format of the board paperWhen did my child last write a full paper against the clock?

Until Class 10, a single tutor for all three sciences is usually the sensible choice, since the same teacher can see whether a mistake in a physics sum is an arithmetic slip or a misunderstood idea. Our national science home tutor page describes how matching works, and the Class 9 science tutor page deals with the year that most often surprises families.

What does an activity-sheet science paper ask of a State Board pupil?

Many Solapur children are on the Maharashtra State Board, which conducts the SSC at Standard X. In the board's evaluation scheme for Standards IX and X, Science and Technology (code 72) is examined through two papers of 40 marks, and both are answered as activity sheets. The remaining 20 marks are internal, built from experiments, the journal and project work at school.

  • Read first, write second. An activity may open with a situation, a figure or an observation. The habit to train is reading it fully before the pen moves.
  • Two papers, equal care. Because each 40-mark paper is separate, neither half of the syllabus can be allowed to drift.
  • A journal that never falls behind. Experiments happen in the school lab, but the tutor can review each journal entry and talk through why the experiment works.

Practise from the board's textbooks and the sample question papers on mahahsscboard.in, and confirm the current scheme there. The Maharashtra Board home tutor in Solapur page covers the rest of the board's subjects.

Where are the marks in CBSE Class 10 science?

A CBSE Class 10 student is examined on 80 marks by the board, while the school awards 20 in four equal parts of 5. The five units differ a great deal in size:

CBSE Class 10 science, 2026-27: unit marks and the habit worth building for each
UnitMarksHabit to build
Chemical Substances: Nature and Behaviour25Equations balanced and compounds named without hesitation
World of Living25Diagrams labelled fully; steps of a process kept in order
Effects of Current13Circuit sums with units on each line
Natural Phenomena12Ray diagrams for mirrors, lenses and the eye
Our Environment5Short definitions learned, not left out

By type of thinking, 50% of the paper checks recall and understanding, 30% application, and 20% analysis and evaluation. For chapter-wise notes, open our CBSE Class 10 science notes; our Class 10 science tutor page explains how a board year is planned.

What does the CBSE science question paper look like?

The 39 questions in the CBSE Class 10 science sample paper for 2026-27, and how to practise each kind
QuestionsMarks eachHow to practise
20 objective items (multiple-choice and assertion–reason)1Quick recall drills from the NCERT text
6 short answers2One clear point per mark
7 short answers3Three separate points, or a sketch with two points
3 case- or source-based questions4Read the passage or data slowly before answering
3 long answers5A diagram or equation supported by numbered points

The sample papers and marking schemes published on cbseacademic.nic.in are the most reliable practice sets.

Which CBSE science topics are left to school assessment?

For 2026-27, three pieces of the syllabus are marked inside the school and do not appear on the board paper: evolution, the periodic classification of elements, and electromagnetic induction together with the generator and the motor. Teach them properly, since each returns in Class 11, but give board revision time to other chapters. The curriculum also lists 14 experiments that board questions lean on, so a well-kept practical file doubles as a revision book.

All Class 10 students take the main exam. Afterwards CBSE offers an optional second sitting in which a student can try to raise up to three subjects, science among them. Treat the main exam as the real one and follow cbse.gov.in for the timetable; our board-year planner sets the months out.

Why should Class 9 CBSE science be planned from the new book?

The 2026-27 CBSE curriculum uses NCERT's newer Class 9 text, Exploration. Marks still total 80 for the exam plus 20 internal, but the units have been regrouped: 27 for matter, 25 for the living world, 23 for motion, force, work and sound, and 5 for Earth as a system. A sibling's old notebook follows the previous book, so it is a poor guide this year.

How is ICSE science different?

At ICSE Class 10, Physics, Chemistry and Biology are three separate CISCE papers, each with internal marks of its own. Each school chooses its textbooks within the council's syllabus, so a tutor should work from those books and from the specimen papers on cisce.org. Exact definitions and fully worked numericals are where ICSE marks are won. Tutors with recent ICSE experience can be harder to find, so say so in your first message; looking online too widens the choice.

How do Solapur localities affect an after-school science lesson?

A Class 6 to 10 lesson usually falls between school and the evening meal, so an address a newcomer can follow and a slot that repeats every week matter a great deal. Here is what to sort out in six localities; tutors for every area are on our Solapur page.

The old peths

In Navi Peth many homes stand on narrow lanes behind shops, so give the shop or building beside your door and the chowk to turn at. Raviwar Peth sits among the eastern peths near Bhavani Peth and Sakhar Peth, and homes there use many languages; say which ones your child is at ease in. In Sakhar Peth, where joint families are common, settle on a quiet corner before the tutor arrives.

Between the station and the western edge

Murarji Peth mixes shops and offices with flats and older houses, so name the lane, building and a nearby shop, and fix an evening once school is over. Bale, on the Solapur–Pune road at the city's western edge, has fewer tutors living close by; a home tutor twice a week for science with one online session is a workable plan, and a map pin helps.

The southern corridor

Vijapur Road, also written Bijapur Road, runs a long way south past Kambar Talav towards Jule, so the road's name alone is not an address. Name your colony, the chowk nearest to you and which side of the road you are on. A tutor living along the same corridor is usually the easiest to keep weekly.

Local tips are collected on the Central Solapur Peths and Railway Lines and Pune Road zone pages, and the Solapur home tuition guide goes through each part of the city.

How should a tutor teach science words and drawings to a multilingual child?

Marathi, Telugu, Kannada, Hindi and Urdu are all home languages in Solapur, so a child may understand an idea in one language and write about it in another. Let the tutor explain first in whatever language works, then require the textbook's term on paper. By Class 10 these five skills should need no thought:

  1. Light: arrowheads on every ray, with any virtual ray dotted.
  2. Electricity: standard symbols only; the ammeter goes in line with the circuit, the voltmeter alongside the component.
  3. The body: heart and digestive system drawn cleanly, with labels spelt right.
  4. Reactions: balanced every time, with state symbols when a question asks for them.
  5. Heredity: each cross set out in steps before the ratio is stated.

During the free demo, ask the tutor to teach the chapter the school is on now, and notice whether these points come up unprompted. Our demo class checklist suggests other things to look for. If the first tutor is not right, a second shortlisted tutor gives a demo, and switching later is free.

What does a science home tutor in Solapur cost?

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Each tutor decides their own rate. For a middle-school child, ask how much of the year would go on fresh chapters against revision, and whether an online lesson could stand in for one visit a week. Fees appear on the shortlist before the demo; the Solapur home tuition fees guide lists other questions.

How do you start with a science tutor through NXTutors?

Share five things: class and board, the area of science that troubles your child, the school's medium alongside the home language, your locality and a landmark, and which afternoons are open. Two or three science tutors come back with fees, and you invite one for a free demo. When nobody suitable can reach you at that hour, an online or part-online plan is the alternative; see online tutors for Solapur. Tutors who join go through an ID check; the Verified badge appears only after the ID check is complete (how the ID check works). For Classes 11 and 12, look at the Solapur pages for physics, chemistry and biology. Elsewhere in Maharashtra, compare science tutors in Pune or the Mumbai page.

Science Home Tutor in Solapur: common questions

What should Solapur parents ask when comparing science tutors' fees?

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Solapur science tutors set their own rates. Ask how each would split the year between new chapters and revision, and whether one session can be online.

How does NXTutors match a science tutor for a Solapur child in Classes 6 to 10?

NXTutors matches a Solapur science tutor from the class, board, hardest topic, school medium, home language, locality and free afternoons you share. We send two or three tutors with fees shown in advance. The first lesson is a free demo, and you can change tutor later without paying anything extra.

How is SSC Science and Technology examined for a Solapur student?

For a Solapur State Board student, SSC Science and Technology is examined as two papers of 40 marks each, answered as activity sheets. Another 20 marks are internal, from experiments, the journal and projects done at school. A tutor should give both papers equal time and keep the journal entries current.

What is an activity sheet in State Board science, and how should a Solapur child practise it?

An activity sheet in State Board science is a question paper built around situations, figures and observations rather than a plain list of questions. A Solapur child should practise reading each activity slowly before writing, then answering in the textbook's terms. The board's sample papers on mahahsscboard.in are the right practice material.

Which CBSE Class 10 science units carry the most marks for Solapur students?

For Solapur CBSE students, Chemical Substances and World of Living carry 25 marks each in the 80-mark Class 10 science paper. Effects of Current brings 13, Natural Phenomena 12 and Our Environment 5. The school adds 20 internal marks, split equally across four parts including the portfolio and practical work.

Which Class 10 science topics are marked by the school, not the CBSE paper, in 2026-27?

In 2026-27, three Class 10 science topics are assessed by the school rather than in the CBSE board paper. They are evolution, periodic classification of elements, and electromagnetic induction with the generator and motor. A Solapur tutor should still teach them well, since all three return in Class 11, but spend revision weeks on board topics.

Can old Class 9 science notes still help a Solapur CBSE student?

Old Class 9 science notes rarely fit now, because CBSE follows NCERT's newer Exploration book in 2026-27. Matter carries 27 marks, the living world 25, motion, force, work and sound 23, and the Earth as a system 5. A Solapur tutor should plan from the current chapters, not an older cousin's notebook.

How many science papers does an ICSE Class 10 student in Solapur write?

An ICSE Class 10 student in Solapur writes three science papers, because CISCE examines Physics, Chemistry and Biology separately, each with internal marks. Schools choose textbooks within the CISCE syllabus, so lessons should follow those books and the council's specimen papers. ICSE-experienced tutors can take longer to find, so ask early.

How can a science tutor help a Solapur child who thinks in Telugu, Kannada or Urdu?

A science tutor can help a Solapur child who thinks in Telugu, Kannada or Urdu by explaining the idea in a familiar language first. Then the tutor insists on the textbook's exact term in written answers. Tell us the home language and the school medium, so the tutors we suggest can talk easily with your child.

What should families in Bale or Sakhar Peth arrange for a science tutor?

Families in Bale or Sakhar Peth should plan around their setting. Bale sits on the western edge on the Solapur–Pune road, with fewer tutors nearby, so a home tutor twice a week plus one online session works well. In Sakhar Peth, where joint families are common, settle a quiet corner before the tutor arrives.
