Tutors who join go through an ID check. Tell us the class, board and your area: we share two or three matched tutors, each with their fee, and the first class is a free demo, at home or online.
Book a free demo classAcross NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Tutors set their own fee, and you see each tutor's fee before the demo class.
Monthly example: 3 one-hour classes a week ≈ ₹9,600–₹32,500 a month (12–13 classes at ₹800–₹2,500 an hour). An example, not a quote: your tutor's own fee decides the real figure.

In many Solapur homes, English is not the first language and not even the second. A child may speak Telugu or Kannada with grandparents, Marathi with friends, Hindi or Urdu elsewhere, and then sit an English paper that expects clear, correct sentences and thoughtful literature answers. That is a lot to manage, and it is why English tuition here is often less about grammar drills and more about building one steady written voice. Tell us the board, the skill that worries you and the languages your child uses. We reply with a shortlist of two or three English tutors, fees included, and your opening lesson with whichever one you pick is a free demo.
Solapur children study under the Maharashtra State Board, CBSE, the CISCE (ICSE, then ISC) or an international programme. The subject is always called English; what the examiner rewards is not the same.
| Board | Tenth year | Twelfth year | Work from |
|---|---|---|---|
| State Board (MSBSHSE) | English in the SSC, taught from the board's own textbook | English in the HSC, taken at junior college | The board's textbooks and sample question papers on mahahsscboard.in |
| CBSE | English Language and Literature, an 80-mark written paper with 20 internal | English Core; the internal share covers listening, speaking and a project | The two NCERT readers for the year, plus CBSE's own sample papers |
| CISCE | ICSE English is two written papers, language and literature, each out of 80, with listening and speaking assessed internally | ISC keeps language and literature as separate papers | The set texts and the council's specimen papers |
| Cambridge; IB | IGCSE English entered as first language (0500) or as second language (0510/0511) | IB Language A, built on unseen-text analysis, a comparative essay and an oral | Past papers matching the school's entry |
The Maharashtra State Board conducts the SSC at Standard X and the HSC at Standard XII, and English is part of both. The board recognises Marathi-medium and English-medium schools, so a Solapur class may include children who study every other subject in Marathi and meet English only in this one paper. We do not repeat the board's English marks here; the current scheme and sample papers are on mahahsscboard.in, and a tutor should work from them and from the board's own textbook.
Whatever the medium, three habits carry most of the marks. Reading answers should point back to a line in the passage rather than guess. Letters, reports and other writing tasks need their format learned once and then fresh content practised every week. And literature answers should be planned in points before they are written in full. Our Maharashtra Board home tutor in Solapur page covers the board's other subjects.
CBSE students in Solapur read the two NCERT books, First Flight and Footprints Without Feet. For 2026-27, the 80 written marks fall into four blocks:
Inside the 20 internal marks, listening and speaking account for 5. With literature carrying half the written paper, a weekly pair of corrected literature answers tends to move marks faster than extra grammar exercises.
Some Solapur children move from Marathi-medium or Urdu-medium schooling into English-medium books, usually when a new stage of school begins. Overnight, both the language and the chapters are unfamiliar. A sensible tutor begins in two languages and finishes in one, in stages:
Let us know which language feels easiest to your child, whether Marathi, Telugu, Kannada, Hindi or Urdu, so the tutor can lean on it during the first weeks.
It can, and the two go together, since both CBSE and CISCE assess listening and speaking. A natural pattern is to close every lesson with your child retelling the passage aloud, then slowly add short talks and practice in answering questions. When spoken fluency is the real aim, perhaps for interviews or college presentations, mention it in the request; we would then suggest a different kind of tutor.
In the primary years the aims are confident reading, neat handwriting and enjoying a story; exam skills can wait. Warning signs include a child who guesses each word from its opening sound, skips lines while reading, or keeps away from books. Brief lessons spread over the week beat one long one: sounding out new words with phonics, reading aloud while the tutor corrects kindly, and telling the story back in the child's own words. Use the demo to ask how phonics is taught and what reading the child should do between visits. In homes where English is seldom heard, the tutor can chat in simple English about pictures and keep the home language for moments of real difficulty.
CBSE English Core in Class 11 is weighted 26 for reading, 23 for grammar with creative writing and 31 for literature, read through Hornbill and Snapshots, and Class 12 brings Flamingo and Vistas. ISC keeps two papers: language, with a 400 to 450 word composition picked from six options, directed writing and a proposal; and literature on its own. For IGCSE, check first whether the school has entered your child for first-language or second-language English. IB Language A students work on unseen analysis and an individual oral. State Board HSC students should follow the board's own current scheme. Specialists for ISC, IGCSE and IB English are thin on the ground locally, which makes online lessons a common choice. More detail on each course is on our national English home tutor page.
A tutor who lives on your side of Solapur is usually the easiest to keep on a weekly slot. Six localities are below, and the Solapur home tuition page covers the rest.
| Locality | Setting | Often asked for | Arrange |
|---|---|---|---|
| Raviwar Peth | An eastern peth where many home languages meet | A tutor who can explain through Telugu, Kannada or Marathi at first | Name the languages your child is comfortable in |
| Sakhar Peth | Old-city lanes, often large joint families | Classes 6 to 8, when gaps start to show | A quiet corner and the right entrance for the tutor |
| Murarji Peth | Shops and offices mixed with flats and older houses | English for HSC commerce students and younger children | Lessons in English, Marathi or a mix, agreed at the start |
| Damani Nagar | A residential colony, mostly homes | Early reading and phonics in Classes 1 to 4 | Short sessions on a fixed pair of weekdays |
| Jule Solapur | A large southern area with many two-child homes | One tutor for siblings, perhaps a shared grammar session | Separate sessions if the age gap is wide |
| Bale | The western edge on the Solapur–Pune road | English as the weekly online session in a mixed plan | A laptop or tablet and a quiet spot for online lessons |
The Central Solapur Peths and Railway Lines and Pune Road zone pages add local detail, and the Solapur home tuition guide compares every zone.
From around Class 3, English works well on a screen, provided the tutor receives the written work ahead of each lesson, whether as photos of the notebook or a shared document. Going online also opens the door to tutors who know ISC, IGCSE or IB. A tutor in the room is worth more for beginning readers, for a child still settling after a change of medium, and for practising speech. How online classes are run is explained on our online tutors for Solapur page.
Not convinced? Tell us, and a different shortlisted tutor will give a demo; a change later in the year is free too.
Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Rates belong to each tutor. When comparing, find out which board's English they know, whether they correct homework sent between visits, and how often they think your child should be taught. All fees appear before the demo; our Solapur home tuition fees guide suggests more questions.
Share the class and board; what concerns you most, be it reading, writing, grammar, literature or speaking; the languages used at home and in school; your locality and a landmark; and the times you can offer. A shortlist of two or three English tutors follows, with their fees. Tutors who join go through an ID check; the Verified badge appears only after the ID check is complete (how the ID check works). For other subjects, see the Solapur maths and science pages, or compare English tutors in Pune and our Mumbai page. A Solapur family should send the class and board, the skill that worries them most, the languages used at home and school, the locality with a landmark, and free times. NXTutors replies with two or three English tutors and their fees. The first lesson is a free demo, and switching tutor later is free.
An English tutor can help a Solapur child who speaks Telugu or Kannada at home by using that language as a bridge in the early weeks. Short two-way translations show where tense and word order slip. Tell us the home language so we suggest tutors who can talk comfortably with your child.
A child switching from Marathi or Urdu medium to English should be taught in two languages first, then moved fully into English by an agreed date. Daily reading with a one-line summary, two-way translation and ready opening phrases for letters and literature answers help the change happen steadily rather than all at once.
For Solapur CBSE students, the 80-mark Class 10 English paper gives 20 marks to reading, 10 to grammar, 10 to writing and 40 to literature. The literature comes from First Flight and Footprints Without Feet. Writing means a formal letter and an analytical paragraph. The school adds 20 internal marks, including 5 for listening and speaking.
A Solapur State Board student can find the current SSC or HSC English scheme and sample papers on mahahsscboard.in, the board's official site. NXTutors does not repeat those marks. A tutor should teach from the board's textbook, link reading answers to the passage and practise each writing format with fresh content every week.
Young children in Damani Nagar or Jule Solapur do well with short home lessons on fixed weekdays, focused on phonics, reading aloud and retelling stories. In Jule homes with two children, one tutor can teach back-to-back, keeping separate sessions if the age gap is wide.
Yes, English tuition for a Solapur student often works online from about Class 3, if the tutor sees written work before each lesson as notebook photos or a shared file. Online lessons also reach ISC, IGCSE and IB specialists. Home lessons help more with early readers and children who have just changed medium.
ISC English differs from CBSE English Core because it keeps language and literature as two separate papers. The ISC language paper includes a 400 to 450 word composition chosen from six topics, directed writing and a proposal. CBSE English Core in Class 11 weights reading 26, grammar and writing 23 and literature 31.
An English home tutor in Solapur can build spoken confidence alongside board work, since CBSE and CISCE both assess listening and speaking. Each lesson can end with the child retelling a passage aloud, growing into short talks. If spoken English is the main goal, say so, because it changes which tutor we suggest.
