Maharashtra Board tutors in Nashik: SSC and HSC, built on the board's own documents

Most State Board families in Nashik meet the board through two exams, the SSC at the end of Standard X and the HSC at the end of Standard XII, and through the Nashik Divisional Board that serves this part of Maharashtra. The papers are set for the whole state, and the board publishes far more about them than most parents realise: subject lists with codes, and subject-wise evaluation schemes that show how marks are spread across chapters and question types. This guide reads those documents for you. It sets out the board's structure, the SSC and HSC subject lists, one HSC science scheme in detail, how a tutor can plan the junior-college year around it, and how we find a State Board tutor who can reach your part of Nashik. Rules change, so confirm anything important on mahahsscboard.in.

The State Board and its Nashik division

The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) is an autonomous body set up under Maharashtra Act No. 41 of 1965 and based in Pune. It began work in January 1966 and has carried its present name since 1976. It conducts the SSC (Class 10) and HSC (Class 12) examinations through nine divisional boards, and holds them twice a year: a main examination and a supplementary one.

The Nashik Divisional Board, founded in 1993 according to the board's division page, looks after four districts: Nashik, Dhule, Jalgaon and Nandurbar. Every locality on our Nashik tutors page therefore falls under it. For a family, the division mostly stays in the background, and most contact with the board runs through the school or junior college. The papers themselves are the same as in Pune, Mumbai or Nagpur, so a good Nashik tutor plans from the state-wide documents rather than from local guesswork.

What the SSC subject list contains

The board's SSC subject list, under Student & Syllabus on its website, groups subjects in a way that is worth knowing before Standard IX begins:

SSC subjects on the board's list, and where a tutor fits
Group on the listExamples (with codes)Where tutoring helps most
First languageMarathi (01), Hindi (02), English (03), Urdu (04), and several others including Gujarati, Kannada and SindhiLong-answer writing and grammar in the medium of study
Second and third languagesSingle languages, or composite pairs such as Marathi-Hindi (AB) and Hindi-Sanskrit (BD)A student new to Maharashtra meeting Marathi as a language paper
Core subjectsMathematics (71), Science & Technology (72), Social Sciences (73)The bulk of tuition requests; maths and science especially
Pre-vocational (NSQF)Examples include Agriculture (X7), Health Care (X9), Tourism and Hospitality (X6), Electronics and Hardware (X8)Rarely a tuition subject; the school handles the practical side
Grade subjectsHealth & Physical Education (P1), Scouting/Guiding (P2), NCC/Sea Cadet Corps (P3)None needed; these are graded, not tutored

For maths and science, the board also publishes evaluation schemes for Standards IX and X on its Evaluation page. Ask any SSC tutor whether they have read the current one for your child's subjects; it is the plainest guide to how the paper is built. Subject depth is on our maths and science pages for Nashik and the national Class 10 maths page.

HSC subjects: compulsory, optional, bifocal and vocational

The HSC list is longer and less familiar to many parents. Three subjects sit outside the usual optional choice: English (01), and the two compulsory subjects Health & Physical Education (30) and Environment Education & Water Security (31). Beyond them the board lists one large optional pool, and each junior college offers its own combinations from it, so check what your college runs before choosing.

  • Sciences and maths. Physics (54), Chemistry (55), Biology (56), Mathematics & Statistics for Arts and Science (40), and Information Technology for science (97).
  • Commerce subjects. Book Keeping & Accountancy (50), Organisation of Commerce & Management (51), Secretarial Practice (52), Economics (49) and a separate Maths & Statistics for Commerce (88).
  • Humanities. History (38), Geography (39), Political Science (42), Sociology (45) and Psychology (48), among others.
  • Bifocal subjects. A vocational strand taken alongside general subjects, such as Computer Science (D9), Electronics (C2), Crop Science (B4) and Horticulture (B5).
  • HSC vocational subjects. Technology and health-related courses such as Electronics Technology and Medical Laboratory Technology.

Codes 40 and 88 are different papers with the same name, so always tell a maths tutor which one your child sits. Our physics, chemistry and biology pages for Nashik cover the science subjects.

A closer look: HSC Chemistry (55), Standard XII

The board's evaluation scheme for Chemistry shows how much planning information a single document holds. The annual board paper is worth 70 marks and has four sections:

  • Section A. Ten multiple-choice questions and eight very short answers, one mark each.
  • Section B. Any eight of twelve short answers worth two marks each.
  • Section C. Any eight of twelve short answers worth three marks each.
  • Section D. Any three of five long answers worth four marks each.

Numericals appear in every section but are capped at between 12 and 15 marks of the paper, so most marks come from explaining, writing equations and reasoning. Log tables are allowed and calculators are not. A multiple-choice answer must be written out together with its letter, and only the first attempt is marked.

Chemistry (55): marks per area without option, from the board's scheme
AreaUnitsMarks
Physical chemistrySolid State (3), Solutions (4), Ionic Equilibria (4), Chemical Thermodynamics (6), Electrochemistry (5), Chemical Kinetics (4)26
Inorganic chemistryElements of Groups 16, 17 and 18 (6), Transition and Inner Transition Elements (6), Coordination Compounds (5)17
Organic chemistryHalogen Derivatives (5); Alcohols, Phenols and Ethers (4); Aldehydes, Ketones and Carboxylic Acids (6); Amines (3)18
Applied chemistryBiomolecules (3), Introduction to Polymer Chemistry (3), Green Chemistry and Nano Chemistry (3)9

With the internal choices counted, 98 marks are on offer for the 70 that are answered. The scheme also spreads them as 30% knowledge, 42% understanding and 28% application and skill, and as 30% easy, 50% average and 20% difficult. Read as a tutor would, the table says three things. Physical chemistry carries the most marks, with thermodynamics and electrochemistry the heaviest single units there. Organic and inorganic together outweigh it, and they reward regular recall of reactions and properties more than late cramming. And the applied units are small but reliable marks for a student who has simply read them. The practical side follows the notebook-cum-journal published by Balbharati, which the scheme says has been mandatory since 2020-21, so the journal should be kept up to date rather than completed in a rush. More on the subject: Class 12 chemistry tutors.

Planning the junior-college year around the scheme

The same Chemistry scheme also gives the formats for tests inside the junior college, and the steps build neatly towards the board paper:

From unit test to board paper in Chemistry (55)
StageMarksShapeTutor's aim
Unit test254 MCQ and 3 very short answers; any four 2-mark, any two 3-mark, any one 4-markGet the question types familiar early
Terminal examination507 MCQ and 7 very short answers; any eight 2-mark, any four 3-mark, any two 4-markPractise choosing questions under time pressure
Board paper70As above, with eight of twelve in Sections B and C and three of five in Section DWhole-syllabus revision and full papers

A State Board tutor who knows this ladder can set a mini unit test after each chapter, a half-length paper before the terminal exam, and full 70-mark papers in the run-up to the HSC, each marked the way the board marks. Ask the tutor to use the schemes for your child's other subjects too; they are all on the board's Evaluation page.

Marathi or English medium

The SSC first-language list runs from Marathi, Hindi and English to Urdu, Gujarati, Kannada, Sindhi and more, and students write maths and science in the technical terms of their own textbook. A tutor who explains in English must still have a Marathi-medium student practise answers in Marathi terms, and the reverse. Some students also change medium between SSC and junior college. For the first weeks of Standard XI a tutor can pair each new term with its Marathi meaning and then let English take over. Tell us the medium when you send a request; it is one of the first things we match on. Families who have moved to Nashik from another state can ask for help with Marathi as a language paper, and our English home tutors in Nashik page covers the English paper.

Finding a State Board tutor who can reach you

A State Board student often keeps one tutor from Standard IX to the SSC, or across both junior-college years, so the journey has to work every week. Tutors here travel by road, so these notes from our area research matter:

  • Upnagar. Tutors around Nashik Road and Jail Road are nearest; roads towards Nashik Road get busy in the evening.
  • Deolali Gaon. In the old village lanes, send a map pin and a landmark for the first visit; avoid the morning and evening peak towards the station.
  • Govind Nagar. Easy to reach from the city centre and the highway side; say where a two-wheeler can be left near the shops.
  • Pathardi Phata. Highway traffic slows the main junction at peak times; inside the colonies the roads are quieter, and tutors from Indira Nagar and CIDCO are close.
  • Satpur. Agree an hour that avoids shift change near the industrial estate; row houses usually mean the tutor can come straight to the door.
  • Ambad. Mostly flats; give the building, wing and flat number and register the tutor at the gate.

The zone pages go further: Gangapur Road and College Road, Panchavati, Mhasrul and Adgaon, Nashik Road and Jail Road, Mumbai Naka to Pathardi Phata and CIDCO, Satpur and Ambad, and the Nashik home tuition guide covers every zone. Where weekly travel will not hold, one home session plus one online session with the same tutor is a sensible mix; see online tutors for Nashik.

HSC marks and entrance tests in the same two years

An HSC science student carries two kinds of preparation at once. The board wants written explanations, equations, derivations and a complete practical journal; entrance tests want quick, accurate multiple-choice work on largely the same chapters. Many Maharashtra students also take MHT-CET, conducted by the State CET Cell, and its syllabus and notices should be read only on the CET Cell's own site. A tutor's job is to keep the written HSC work alive while the entrance practice grows. See JEE and NEET home tutors in Nashik. If your child is on another board, compare CBSE and ICSE and ISC tutors in Nashik, or read our guide to choosing a board and stream. The Pune and Mumbai versions of this page look at other subjects in depth: Maths and Economics in Pune and Physics and Accountancy in Mumbai.

How to test a State Board tutor in the free demo

  1. Codes. Does the tutor know whether your child sits Maths & Statistics 40 or 88, and which SSC language papers apply?
  2. The scheme. Have they read the board's evaluation scheme for the subject, and can they say which units carry the most marks?
  3. A real question. Hand over a three-mark question from a sample or past paper and watch them teach it as they normally would.
  4. Board rules. A Chemistry or Physics tutor should mention the no-calculator rule and the letter-plus-answer rule for multiple choice without prompting.
  5. Medium. Can they correct an answer written in your child's medium?
  6. Route and slot. Which road do they ride in on, and which hour avoids the peak near you?

You get two or three matched tutors and see each fee before the demo; the first class is free and switching tutor later is free. Tutors who join go through an ID check; the Verified badge appears only after our team has reviewed the ID (how it works). The demo class checklist adds more questions.

Fees and getting started

Across NXTutors, most home-tuition sessions fall between ₹800 and ₹2,500 an hour; Classes 11–12, IB/IGCSE and JEE/NEET sit toward the upper end; specialists for IB HL or JEE Advanced can charge more. Each tutor sets their own fee. Ask how many sessions a week they suggest for the standard and subjects, and what the plan looks like before the terminal and preliminary exams. Our pricing guide and home tuition fees in Nashik explain what moves a fee.

Send the standard, the subjects with codes if you have them, the medium, your locality with a landmark and your free slots, and book a free demo class. You can also browse tutor profiles, or, if you teach State Board subjects, look at Nashik tuition jobs.

Maharashtra Board Home Tutor in Nashik (SSC & HSC): common questions

How do I find a Maharashtra Board home tutor in Nashik?

Send the standard, subjects, medium, your locality with a landmark and the slots you can offer. We shortlist two or three tutors who teach SSC or HSC papers and look first for those on your side of the city. Each fee is shown before anything is booked, and the first class is a free demo.

Which divisional board covers Nashik?

The Nashik Divisional Board, one of the State Board's nine divisions. The board's division page gives its foundation year as 1993 and lists four districts: Nashik, Dhule, Jalgaon and Nandurbar. Papers are set for the whole state, and most family contact with the board runs through the school or junior college.

Does the State Board hold more than one exam a year?

Yes. The board says it conducts examinations twice a year: a main examination and a supplementary examination. Check the current notices on mahahsscboard.in for who may appear and when, because the rules are set each year. A tutor can plan a focused revision schedule for a student taking the supplementary paper.

How is the HSC Chemistry paper set?

The board's scheme for Chemistry (55), Standard XII, gives 70 marks in four sections, from one-mark multiple-choice and very short answers to four-mark long answers, with choices in Sections B to D. Numericals appear in every section but total 12 to 15 marks at most. Log tables are allowed; calculators are not.

Which HSC chemistry units carry the most marks?

In the board's scheme, physical chemistry carries 26 of the 70 marks without options, organic 18, inorganic 17 and applied chemistry 9. Chemical Thermodynamics, Elements of Groups 16 to 18, Transition Elements and Aldehydes, Ketones and Carboxylic Acids carry six marks each, the heaviest single units.

Do you match tutors by Marathi or English medium?

Yes, so mention the medium when you ask. Students answer maths and science in the terms of their own textbook, so a tutor must correct answers in that medium. For a student moving from Marathi to English in junior college, a tutor can pair new terms with their Marathi meaning for the first weeks.

Can a State Board tutor help with MHT-CET as well as the HSC?

A tutor can keep HSC written work moving while entrance practice grows, because the chapters largely overlap. MHT-CET is conducted by the State CET Cell, so take its syllabus and notices only from the CET Cell's own site. For JEE or NEET, see our Nashik pages for those exams.
